Blackwell of Cuba, Missouri was born on Wednesday, May 15, 1929 to Raymond and Annie Lou Lane Gilliland and passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 20 days. She married Harold W. Blackwell on December 24, 1954 in Orlando, Mississippi. They made their home in St. Louis, Missouri for several years where she worked at Tabor Plastics Manufacturing and was a seamstress at Contour Chair Factory. She enjoyed sewing and even made suits and other clothing for her sisters for many years. She was faithful in attending her church and was a loving, peacemaking Christian. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Gilliland; mother, Annie Lou Gilliland Chronister; husband, Harold Blackwell; infant brother, Harlan; infant sister, Truma Lee; and uncle, John A. Lane. She is survived by her sisters, Ann (Jack) Brock of Sikeston, Missouri, Margie (Maurice) Grant and Argie (John) Moses, all of Cuba, Missouri; brother-in-law, Wilbur (Jeanne) W. Blackwell of Midwest City, Oklahoma; other relatives and friends. Reba Lee Brand Reba Lee Brand, nee Howdeshell, of Steelville, Missouri was born December 24, 1921 at Dillard, Missouri to Frank and Annie Askins Howdeshell and passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Gibbs Care Center at the age of 91 years. On June 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Jewell Brand. Reba worked at Brown Shoe Company and retired from there after 30+ years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Steelville. She spent many hours sewing, quilting and enjoying her flower garden and yard. Reba loved being with her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren during their younger years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Annie Howdeshell; her husband, Jewell Brand in 2003; one brother, Lee Howdeshell and wife Carol; one sister, Hildred Setzer and husband Minuard; and brother-in-law, Harry Owen. Buescher of Jefferson City, Missouri was born on January 6, 1946, in Washington, Missouri to Alfred J. Buescher, Sr. and Zita (Voelkerding) Buescher and passed away February 3, 2013 at the age of 66 years. Fr. Buescher has assisted as pastor and administrator at a number of Catholic parishes in central and south-central Missouri. He was a retired priest, due to health reasons of the Diocese of Jefferson City, Missouri. Bishop Michael F. McAuliffe, Bishop of Jefferson City, ordained him to the Holy Priesthood on May 22, 1971, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Washington, Missouri.  He served as pastor of the Church of Our Saviour, the English-speaking international Roman Catholic parish of The Hague, Netherlands, Europe from 1990 to 1994. In 1994 he returned to the Diocese of Jefferson City and was appointed Director of the Newman Center at the University of Missouri-Rolla, and associate pastor of St. Patrick Church in Rolla, Missouri. On March 1, 1996 he was appointed Temporary Administrator of Holy Cross Church in Cuba, Missouri and the missions at St. Francis Caracciolo Church in Bourbon, Missouri and St. Michael Church in Steelville, Missouri. He was appointed in 2001 as Senior Priest in Service at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. He retired on July 1, 2004, due to health reasons. Fr. Buescher celebrated his 25th Anniversary of priestly ordination on June 16, 1996, at St. Patrick Church in Rolla, Missouri. He celebrated his 40th Anniversary in Camdenton, Missouri on June 26, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Sr and Zita Buescher; sister, Carol Buescher and a brother, Alfred J. Buescher, Jr. He is survived by a brother, Romuald L. Velma Marie Conaway Velma Marie Conaway, nee Cooksey, of Cherryville, Missouri was born June 20, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri to Christopher and Clarice “Carrie” Ferguson Cooksey and passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 16 days. April 23, 1944 in Cherryville, Missouri Velma was married to Noel Edwin Conaway and to this union three children were born. Velma worked approximately 24 years as secretary for the Cherryville High School. She was a member of the St. James Christian Church and taught Sunday school for several years along with being a member of the Keenager Group at church. She was active in helping with the Crawford County Historical Book and had been involved for many years in collecting and researching her own family’s genealogy. She was an avid reader, enjoyed embroidering and collecting recipes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christopher and Clarice Cooksey; husband, Noel in August of 1997; three brothers, Clarence Cooksey and wife Loma, Lloyd Cooksey and Floyd Cooksey; four sisters, Blanche Malone and husband Lona, Edna Hoffert and husband Fred, Virginia Melvin and Berniece Cooksey; brothers-in-law Lawrence Conaway, Luther Conaway and wife Emilie; and two sisters-in-law, Geneva Green and husband Clyde and Leo Brown. Martha Helen Cross Martha Helen Cross of Northampton, Massachusetts a former resident of Goleta, California, Lawrenceville, Georgia and Greenfield, Massachusetts passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Calvin Coolidge Nursing Home in Northapton, Massachusetts from complications of Alzheimer’s at the age of 91 years. Martha was born on January 28, 1922 in Bourbon, Missouri to Ernest and Minnie Chapman. After her birth the family later moved to Cuba, Missouri where her parents raised strawberries. She married William E. Cross, Jr. in 1948, and lived as a Marine Corps wife for nearly 30 years before her husband retired to Goleta, California. He taught school there for his second career. He died in 1995 and is buried in Arlington Cemetery. After his passing, Martha lived in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Caldwell, New Jersey and later Greenfield, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Minnie Chapman; three brothers and four sisters, Ernest, John, Hilma, Clayton, Nora, Dora and Olive Chapman. She is survived by her two sons, William S. Cross of Montclair, New Jersey and Andrew E. Cross of Turners Falls, Massachusetts; three grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Graveside service was held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Delhi Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. She will be buried next to parents and among generations of Chapman’s extending back into the early 1800’s when her ancestors relocated to Missouri from Caroline County Virginia. Minnie Dill Minnie Dill of Sullivan, Missouri, was born at Sullivan, Missouri on August 20, 1912 to Hiram and Lillie Jane (Calvin) Brewer and passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the age of 100 years, 5 months and 10 days. On January 21, 1933 Minnie was united in marriage to Orville “Bud” Dill. Minnie became a Christian in 1949 and was baptized on March 27 that same year at Temple Baptist Church where she made it her home church and encouraged many friends to come to attend services and was presented with a Bible from Rev. Morris Brock for her faithfulness in Sunday school. Minnie was happiest when there were family gatherings at Christmas, reunions and birthdays. She loved doing things for her grandchildren and she lovingly made each grandchild a beautiful embroidered quilt. Minnie was a stay-at-home mom whose children remember the wonderful smell of oven-baked cinnamon rolls as they came home from school. In 1953 she went to work at Midwest Footwear in Sullivan, Missouri as an inspector and was employed there until her retirement in 1974. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hiram and Lillie Brewer; her husband Orville in 1995; son-in-law, Bill Marshall; brothers, Clarence Brewer and wife Edith, Floyd Brewer; sisters, Anna Mae Kramer and husband Max, Marie Rehmert and Edna Tayloe; brother-in-law, Rolla Chandler and sister-in-law, Virginia Brewer. Dora Esther Estes Dora Esther Estes of Branson West, Missouri, formerly of Cuba, Missouri, was born Wednesday, March 10, 1925 at Union County, Illinois to Harry Oliver and Della Esther (nee Boyce) Gunter and passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Wedgewood Gardens in Branson West, Missouri at the age of 87 years. Dora started nursing school in 1942 at the Missouri Baptist Nursing School in St. Louis where she was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corp. Dora married Clouse Winfred “Win” Estes on April 19, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri. Dora worked as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years. She worked as the Public Health Nurse at Scott County Health Department in Benton, Missouri and other area hospitals before returning to school and earning a B.S. in Nursing at the age of 53 years. After obtaining her degree she became the clinical instructor in the nursing department at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and then became the nursing administrator at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She ended her nursing career at the V.A. Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Missouri retiring in 1987. Dora enjoyed crocheting afghans, reading and going to church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Win Estes; parents, Harry and Della Gunter; four brothers, Charles, Earl, Paul and Lewis “Skeets” Gunter; sisters-in-law, Bonnie and Marge Gunter and brother-in-law, Art Saxe. Agnes Mae King Agnes Mae King of Bourbon, Missouri was born in Bixby, Missouri to Gus and Margaret Brooks Richards and passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013 at home at the age of 87 years. Agnes was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Agnes first married Clifford Nokes this marriage ended in divorce she then married James Cordell Byrd Sr. on June 7, 1947 in Sullivan he preceded her in death on January 8, 1966. On November 18, 1967 she married Melbourne King he preceded her on November 12, 2010. Agnes was devoted to her children and was active in their school life serving on the PTA and volunteering in their classroom activities. She also served as a Den Mother and an assistant Scout Master for her sons Boy Scout Troops. Cindy married Larry Moreland on August 1, 1997 in Bell Chute, Maries County, Missouri. She was a Head Start “MOCA” cook for several years. Larry and Cindy had a vegetable and fruit stand in Cuba and Steelville for 10 years. Her hobbies were crocheting, sewing, raising flower and vegetable gardens and being outdoors. She enjoyed the ocean when living in Maryland. Cindy was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Steelville, Missouri. Dorothy Mae Turner Dorothy Mae Turner of Bourbon, Missouri, was born at Gerald, Missouri on April 28, 1922 to Calvin and Dora (Brinkman) McCallister and passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at her home at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 6 days. She was a life-long resident of the Bourbon/Sullivan areas having been raised in Champion City, Missouri and then after her marriage, moving to the Bourbon, Missouri area.  Dorothy was an employee of International Shoe Company for a time and then worked for the Proctor Company in Bourbon, Missouri before returning to shoe manufacturing where she was employed at Midwest Shoe Company. On May 27, 1940 she was united in marriage to Robert W. Turner at Union, Missouri and to this marriage five sons were born. Dorothy enjoyed sewing and quilting and made many quilts for her family and church functions. She was a dedicated member of Old Argo Presbyterian Church and was faithfully active in many of the church activities. She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Dora McCallister; infant son, Eugene Charles; her husband Robert in April of 1992; twin great grandsons, Connor and Lucas Binsbacher; a brother, Harold McCallister and a sister, Doris Shepp. She is survived by four sons, Tom Turner and significant friend Cindy Plafcan of Sullivan, Missouri, Michael Turner and wife Rebecca of Bourbon, Missouri, Jim Turner and wife Glora of Leslie, Missouri and Bill Turner and wife Beverly of Rosebud, Missouri; a brother, Leroy McCallister and wife Joan of Buena Vista, Arkansas; a sister, Betty Steineker of Gerald, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; special friends and caregivers, Dina Hollingshead and her daughters, Alice, Theresa, Evelyn and granddaughter Rose; other relatives and friends.
