Leroy George "Sonny" Beck
Leroy George "Sonny" Beck, age 72, of Steelville,
Missouri, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at his home. He was born
September 20, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Homer and
Lillie (Martin) Beck.
Sonny is survived by one sister Thelma Conley of
Desloge, Missouri and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Lloyd and
Jim Beck and four sisters Helen Carrell, Catherine Fleeman, Cleo
Carroll, and Louise Hardin.
Sonny attended the Jehovah Witnesses of Bourbon and will
be remembered for his love of his nieces and nephews who were a very
important part of his life.
Funeral services for Sonny Beck were held Friday,
February 10, 2006 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville,
Missouri with Edler Gerald Goff officiating. Special music was by
Darla Vance. Visitation was held Thursday evening at the funeral
home.
Serving as casketbearers were Howard Zbornak, Roger
Pikul, James Meintz, Donald Warren, Daniel Hardin and Robert Hardin
with committal prayer and burial in the New Home Cemetery in
Keysville, Missouri.
All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.
Euella Eugenia Key
Euella E. "LaLa" Key, age 85, of Steelville, Missouri
passed away Monday, February 6, 2006 at the Phelps County Regional
Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri.
She was born October 30, 1920 in Steelville, Missouri,
the daughter of Euel Erwin and Hallie Mae (Anderson) Key.
She is survived by one brother Orin Key and wife Hallie
of Rolla, Missouri; three nieces Carolyn and husband Ted Richards of
Dallas Texas, Rhonda and husband Darrel Burger of Erie,
Pennsylvania, Mary Key of Fort Worth, Texas; one nephew Jay Key and
wife Kathy of Harrison, Arkansas.
Three great nephews J.D. Burger and Zac Burger, both of
Erie, Pennsylvania and Scott Key and wife Tara of Justin, Texas; one
great niece Abi Burger of Erie, Pennsylvania; two great great
nephews, Noah and Jonah Key, both of Justin, Texas; and one cousin,
Frances Lee Head of St. Louis, Missouri.
She graduated from Southwest Missouri Teachers College,
which is now Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri,
with her B.A. and received her Masters in Education from University
of Missouri.
Her first job was on the Huzzah in the Slowensky School,
where she taught grades one through eight. Afterwards she went to
Taylor for two years and then took a position in Cherryville for one
year before beginning a job in Steelville.
She will be remembered for teaching at Steelville R-3
Elementary and then becoming the principal in 1957 at the school.
She retired in 1980 after 37 years of service.
She also will be remembered for volunteer service and
was honored in 1987 for service at the Gibbs Care Center. Having
begun helping in 1972, she reached over 500 hours of volunteering in
1987.
In 1990 she received a National Community Service Award
for Association of Retired Persons. She gave many hours of service
to the food pantry sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance. She still
had time to volunteer at the Steelville Public Library, a member of
Child Welfare Committee and Retired Teachers Association.
Most important was the service for her church. She was a
devoted member of the Steelville Assembly of God Church where she
performed her secret ministry in many ways. Our loss is Heaven's
gain, a rose in the Master's bouquet.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 10, 2006 at
the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev.
Jerry Beers officiating. Music was by Jerry Beers with Sharon
Hardecke accompanying. Visitation was held Thursday evening at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.
Serving as casket bearers were Kent Howald, John Taylor,
Kem Schwieder, Jerry Cape, Gary Hardecke and Jim Hewkin. Committal
prayer and burial were in the Steelville Cemetery.
James F. Nelson
James F. Nelson of St. James, Missouri was born January 28, 1940 at
San Jose, California to the union of Robert Virgil Nelson and Opal
Virginia (nee Pinson) Nelson and left from this life on Saturday,
February 11, 2006 at Columbia, Missouri at the age of 66 years and 14 days.
James was united in marriage on January 12, 1963 at
Sullivan, Missouri to Carol A. Monda and to this union two sons were
born: Trent and Bart.
James retired from Coca-Cola after 37 years of service.
He served in the United States Navy from 1958 until 1962. James had
been a member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba.
James is preceded in death by his parents and other
family members.
Those who survive to mourn his passing are his loving
wife Carol; two sons, Trent Nelson and Bart Nelson and wife Dee;
four grandchildren, Jeremiah Nelson, Caleb Nelson, Dakota Nelson and
Adam McCrite.
Four sisters, Roberta Pratt, Barbara Gordon, Dottie
Fleshman and Donna Stiles; mother-in-law Nellie Monda; and a host of
other relatives and friends.
James was a loving husband, father, father-in-law,
grandfather, brother, uncle, son-in-law, relative and friend and
will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation was held Monday, February 13, 2006 from 5-8
p.m. at Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service was
held Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Britton Funeral Home,
Cuba, Missouri. Interment followed in Kinder Cemetery, Cuba,
Missouri.
Doy L."Bus" Schonfield
Doy L. "Bus" Schonfield of Steelville, Missouri was born
on Tuesday, March 10, 1931 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Albert Schonfield
and Edna A. Southern Schonfield. He passed away in Rolla, Missouri
on Monday, February 6, 2006 at the age of 74 years, 10 months, and
27 days.
Bus married Barbara Ann "Bobbie" Bell in Steelville,
Missouri on September 22, 1954 and to this union four children were
born. He worked in construction, farming, raising hogs and also
enjoyed gardening.
He was proud of his Native American heritage and
collected Indian artifacts. Bus was a kind and considerate person,
willing to take others to doctor appointments and helping in anyway
he could. Most of all, Bus loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant
daughter, Edna Jean; sisters-in-law, Linda Schonfield, Juanna
Carroll and husband Hurl, Beatrice Kingsland and husband William;
and brother-in-law, Lester Bell.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife
Barbara Ann "Bobbie" Bell; children, Joe Lee Schonfield and wife
Donna, Deborah Ann Hewkin and husband Mitch, Suda Jane Smith and
husband Rick, all of Steelville, Missouri; brothers, Bill Schonfield
and wife June, Jerry Schonfield, Harold Schonfield, all of Bristow,
Oklahoma; and Raymond Turley and wife Audrey of Sacramento,
California; sisters-in-law, Norma Bell of Cuba, Missouri and Shirley
Siemans of Raytown, Missouri.
Grandchildren, Chris Schonfield, Tesha Smith, Melissa
Williams and Jillian Moses; great grandchildren, Zachary Williams,
Dakota Williams, Kyle Sanders, Cody Sanders and Andrea Sanders;
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
"Bus" will be missed and fondly remembered by all who
knew and loved him.
Visitation was Wednesday, February 8, 2006 from 6-9 p.m.
at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral service was Thursday, February 9, 2006 at 1 p.m.
at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Brother Richard
Martin officiating.
Burial at Eaton Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri with
pallbearers Sonny Eaton, Robert Callahan, Rick Smith, Brian
Williams, Larry Moses, and Mitch Hewkin. Honorary pallbearer Chris
Schonfield.
All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral
Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Mary Ellen Stephens
Mary Ellen Stephens passed away January 14, 2006, at
Wyoming Medical Center at the age of 72 years. She was born April
11, 1933, in Leasburg, Missouri, to Cecil and Eulah (Hamrick) Ray.
She was raised and attended school in Sullivan, Missouri. Following
her graduation from high school, she married Dennis Stephens on
February 17, 1951 in Leasburg, Missouri and they had four children.
The couple moved to Casper, Wyoming in 2000.
She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, Vacation Bible
School, spending time with her great granddaughter, cooking,
traveling and volunteer work for Interfaith. She was a member of
College Heights Baptist Church, and enjoyed her involvement there,
singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and helping the church
out whenever and wherever she could.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Stephens; two
daughters, Cheryl Wendland and Cathy Lamorie and her husband Gabe,
all of Casper, Wyoming; two sons, Dennis Stephens, and Jerry
Stephens, both of Gillette, Wyoming; two grandchildren, and two
great grandchildren.
Two sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Frank Nugent
of Union, Missouri, and Nancy and David Broughton of Lakewood,
Colorado; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great
nephews and cousins and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one
brother, William (Bill) Ray.
Funeral services for Mary Ellen Stephens were conducted
at 1 p.m. January 18, 2006 at College Heights Baptist Church by
Pastor Mike Cooper.
