At the age of 11, in 1937, Anna spent 17 weeks at Shriners Hospital, due to having Polio. Anna married Lloyd Allen and to this union four children were born. Anna lived in Granite City, Illinois from 1957 till 1972. After Anna's husband, Lloyd, passed away in 1966 Anna went to work. She babysat for many years and worked in the cafeteria for the Crawford County R-II School District for eight years. Anna enjoyed quilting and embroidery work. Her favorite color was red and she enjoyed listening to classic country music. Anna was a long time member of the Cuba United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ida Whitaker; husband, Lloyd Allen; infant son, David Lee Allen; one daughter, Nancy Jolene Allen; one sister, Millie Barnett; one brother, Walter Spurgeon; and son-in-law, Thomas Farris. She is survived by her children, Lloyd R. and wife Carol Allen of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina and Sandra Farris of Cuba, Missouri; three grandchildren, Lucas Allen Ray, David B. Marjorie Baker Barton Marjorie Baker Barton of St. James. Missouri was born in Sublette, Kansas on August 27, 1926 to Cecil and Mamie (Miller) Baker and passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Marjorie graduated high school and started teaching in a one-room school house and retired as the High School Music teacher from Utica, High School in Michigan. On October 4, 1946 Marjorie Baker married Donald Barton. She was a longtime member of the St. James United Methodist Church. From her childhood days when she began singing in the church choir until today, she has brightened the lives of others with her musical skills. She has composed and published over 20 songs. Marjorie was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 58 years. During this time she served as Worthy Matron, Grand Soloist, Grand Chaplain, and Grand Conductress. Then in 1974, she was elected Worthy Grand Matron over 411 chapters and 90,000 members in Michigan. Thousands of copies of her published compositions have been sold, with the proceeds donated to various charities. When she saw the need for a new piano at the St. James Methodist Church, she raised the money to purchase one. From 1976-1979 she raised over $11,000 for the Shriner's Hospital. Marjorie was probably the biggest St. Louis Cardinals fan ever! For many years she wrote birthday cards to the players, and then some years later they sent birthday cards to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Mamie Baker; husband, Donald in 2006; sons, Donald Stephen and Charles Lawrence Barton; grandson, Joel Stephen Barton; great grandson, Silas Barton; and sister-in-law, Dixie Baker. His favorite activity was horseback riding. After his retirement, he used his talent of leatherwork to repair saddles for others and to make leather items. He enjoyed spending his spare time with his family. Merrie Christine Morrison Merrie Christine Morrison of Cuba, Missouri was born on December 24, 1963 at St. Louis, Missouri to Lonnie Ray and Ida Dormalee (Hogan) Morrison and passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at the age of 53 years, 1 month and 24 days. Merrie grew up in High Ridge, Missouri where she attended the Northwest School District, graduating from Northwest High School in 1982. She lettered on the track team in hurdles and the long jump. During her school years Merrie played khoury league softball and found her first paying job was umpiring along side her father. She moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky with her parents in 1981 and attended Western Kentucky State University where she obtained both her associate (1986) and baccalaureate (1989) degrees in Nursing. After her initial degree Merrie spent roughly five years nursing at Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It was during those years that she met dear friends Pam and Larry Dixon and moved with them to Spain where she spent another five years of her life as a missionary. She lived in both Santander and Valladolid during her time abroad. She assisted opening a couple of children's homes within a drug rehabilitation program, mothering several children. Merrie also worked within the drug rehabilitation program itself, assisting recovering addicts, teaching mothering skills and christian values. Merrie had been a registered nurse for the past 30 years with her last place of employment being Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri where she had been employed for about 12 years. She was preceded in death by her mother on May 3, 2014; and all of her grandparents. Don married Lois Jean Hughes on March 4, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union three children were born. Don worked 51 years as a barber at Forum Barbershop in Chesterfield, Missouri then moved to Cuba in 2000 and retired in February, 2016. He was a member of the United Food Commercial Union Local 655. He enjoyed horse riding, water skiing, spring turkey hunting and deer hunting. He raised and trained pointers that he used when quail hunting. Larry honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He earned his bachelor's degree in business from Columbia College. Larry worked as the Customer Service Rep. for Olin Brass and after 27 years of dedicated service he retired in 2015. Larry spent the last couple of year's home schooling Ian. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, gardening and collecting coins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Ruth Osborn. George Robert Piazza George Robert Piazza of St. James, Missouri was born in Rosati, Missouri on December 5, 1930 to Ernesto P. (Casey) and Cisara (Piazza) Piazza and passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at the age of 86 years. George was the first generation born in the United States. His family immigrated from Italy. George left school after the ninth grade so he could help with the family owned vineyard. The Rosati vineyard growers grouped together and signed an agreement to produce grapes especially for the Welch Grape Company for jams and jellies. In 1951 George enlisted in the United States Army shipping off to Korea to fight in the war. He was stationed there for 11 months and 20 days, returning to Camp Carson in Colorado until his enlistment was over in 1954. On January 25, 1958 George married Vera Gorman and to this union three children were born. George was a lifetime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rosati, Missouri. He was also very active in the Knights of Columbus. He loved fishing and hunting, and was known to be Mr. Fix-it. If it was broke they would call George. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Cisara Piazza; his sisters, Caroline Kaestner, Helen Zielinski and Techila Klebba; and brothers, Emil and Ben Piazza. Virginia was united in marriage to Howard Sansoucie at Ennis, Texas on April 27, 1985. Virginia spent her life taking care of her mom, her brother David, her family and her home. She loved to decorate the house and spent hours and hours cleaning. She recently had been attending the Assembly of God Church in St. James, Missouri. Virginia loved to go shopping and out to eat. She watched CNN every day and she never missed an episode of Law and Order SUV. To know Virginia was to know that she would drink coffee all day long. She was preceded in death by her father, Gilman Sayre; mother, Willa Mae Dennison; and two brothers, Acie Earl Sayre and David M. Sayre. Lillie Alice Scott Lillie Alice (Brenton) Scott of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Cuba, Missouri was born on May 21, 1932 in Steelville, Missouri to F.L. and Elinor Brenton and passed away January 30, 2017 at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 9 days. Lillie attended early school years in Steelville, Missouri but the family moved to Cuba where here father took the position of Superintendent of School. She graduated from Cuba High School and attended Drury College in Springfield, Missouri. She sold real estate in Cincinnati until she retired. She returned to her hometown of Cuba, Missouri to take care of her mother until her passing in 2004. Lille found great joy in spending time with her daughters. She enjoyed travelling and visiting with her many friends. She is survived by two daughters, Lori Aman (the late Mark Aman) and Susan Scott of Cincinnati; one brother, Don Brenon Sr. and wife Jacqueline of Cuba, Missouri; nephews, Don Jr. and wife Sharon of Lebanon, Missouri and Paul and wife Lisa of Bland, Missouri; niece, Lisa Telle of Cuba, Missouir; her beloved dog, Maggie and cats, Evander and Elizabeth; horse, Breezy; other relatives and friends. Jonathan Daniel Stammers Jonathan Daniel Stammers was born on November 16, 1929 to Joseph William and Ollie Myrtle Stammers in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the age of 87 years. John, as he was known to all who knew and loved him, was raised in Herington, Kansas. He married Lucille "Scherill" Stammers on January 18, 1953 and to this union five children were born. Family came foremost in John's life and he could often be found either coaching little league or cheering in the bleachers, at football, basketball or baseball games or watching grandchildren perform whenever he was able. His family was his hobby. He was a long-time civil servant working in the telephone exchange; first at Ft. Riley, Kansas and later at Ft. Wood, Missouri. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church serving in many roles over the years they lived in St. James, Missouri. The Stammers family moved to St. James, Missouri in 1968 and quickly made it their adopted hometown. The Stammers home, just one block from the football field, was also the gathering place of the friends of their five children. The "open door" policy meant that John and Scherill always had a houseful of kids. John and Scherill were founding members of the St. James Booster Club, which supported all extra-curricular activities at the school. John served in the U.S. Navy as a storekeeper 3rd class during the Korean War from 1947-1951. He served most of his duty in California and Alaska. He was proud of his service and his country. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Scherill; his parents, Joseph and Ollie Stammers; and one half-sister, Esther Brubaker. He is survived by his children, Jan (Ken) Burch, Joe (Diane) Stammers, Jil (Carl) Behr, all of St. James, Missouri, Jon (Jennifer) Stammers of Atchison, Kansas, and Jay (Tove) Stammers of Uppsala, Sweden; grandchildren, Katie (Derek) Shultz, Anne (Cory) Freand, Jessica and Jordan Stammers, Stephanie Stammers (Aaron Plaskett) and Wes (Becca) Stammers, Megan (Kevin) Hedges and Aarika Behr, Emily and Alice Stammers; five great- grandchildren, Quinn and Brett Shultz, Asher and Gunnar Freand and Marshall Stammers; one sister, Joann Barrett of Salina, Kansa; sister-in-law, Velora Goss of Emporia, Kansas; other relatives and friends. John was cremated following his passing. Service will be held in April, 2017 so that all family may attend. Dr. Jerry Baumann will conduct the service. Theodore Arthur "Ted" Stocker III Theodore Arthur "Ted" Stocker III of Cherryville, Missouri was born on Thursday, October 16, 1975 in St. Louis, Missouri to Theodore "Ted" Arthur Stocker Jr. and Nancy (Ankelmann) Stocker and passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the age of 41 years, 3 months and 28 days. Ted worked as a truck driver for Swift Transportation Company. He married Jackie Prettyman on October 25, 2003 in Licking, Missouri. He enjoyed operating remote control cars with his children. He was a man with a huge heart, and he never knew a stranger. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emil V. and Erma Anklemann; parents-in-law, Jack and Melba Prettyman; nephew, Kevin Conaway; and niece, Tammy Conaway. Edward Alexander Tomazi Edward Alexander Tomazi of Cuba, Missouri was born on Saturday, October 5, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri to George and Sophia Bogovich Tomazi and passed away in Rolla, Missouri on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 8 days. Edward married Jane Frances Morris in September, 1968 and to this union four children were born. Edward worked as a heavy equipment operator in Commercial Construction in St. Louis, Missouri and was a member of the Local 513 Operating Engineers Union. After retirement, he enjoyed farming and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sophia Tomazi; and daughter, Caroline R. Parlor. He is survived by his children, Sarah (Daniel) Howland of Columbia, Missouri, Brian (Brenda) Tomazi and Jason Tomazi of Cuba, Missouri; son-in-law, Danny Parlor of Davenport, Florida; brothers, George (Lois) Tomazi and Robert (Jennifer) Tomazi, all of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Graveside service held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Ft. Leonard Wood Veteran's Cemetery, Waynesville, Missouri with full military honors. John Albert Turnbough John Albert Turnbough of Steelville, Missouri was born March 24, 1931 in Davisville, Missouri to Irvin and Rosa Tinker Turnbough and passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 19 days. He was united in marriage to Margaret Ruth Worley. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War earning a Purple Heart. He was wounded in October of 1952 in the Kumhwa Valley Area near Triangle Hill Complex while serving with Co. B 17th Infantry Regiment 7th U.S. Infantry Division (better known as the Bayonet Division). The 7th U.S. Inf. Division fought in World War II from Attu Island, Alaska, the first U.S. landing in the Philippines to Ikinawa and then to Korea for occupation in 1945. He was a member of the Steelville VFW. John retired in 1996 from the U.S. Post Office in St. Louis, Missouri. He always loved history and when Margaret was alive they both enjoyed traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Rosa Turnbough; his wife, Margaret Turnbough in June of 2004; two brothers, Finis, who died in infancy and Noah Turnbough and wife Frances; and three sisters, Gladine Abney and husband Lawrence, Dorothy Ray and husband Henry and Dolly Turnbough. He is survived by his brother, Rev. Elmer Turnbough of Rolla, Missouri; sister-in-law, Phyllis Souders and husband Ralph of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of "Amazing Grace" was sung and played by Rev. Jerry Beers. Other music of "I Believe" was sung by Trena Cuddy and "What a Friend we have in Jesus" was sung and played by Bob and Carol Coleman. Memories were shared by the family. Committal prayer and interment were in the Steelville Cemetery with military honors from the U.S. Army and St. James VFW. Casket bearers were Ralph Souders, Judy Bailey, Jim Turnbough, Matt Cuddy, Tracey Delamarter and Ken Bailey.
