Meekie Altom
Meekie Jo Altom, nee Lents, of Steelville, Missouri was
born on Sunday, February 25, 1912 in Alton, Missouri to Henry Venson
Lents and Lydia E. Strain Lents. She passed away on Wednesday,
February 16, 2005 at the age of 92 years, 11 months, and 20 days.
Meekie married Robert Luther Altom on August 28, 1928 in
Piggott, Arkansas and to this union five children were born. She
worked for many years making shirts in a garment factory. Her
hobbies were sewing, crocheting, quilting and doing needlework.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers,
Freeman Lents, and Edward Winford; sisters, Mable Grogan, Faye
Puckett, and Hazel Archer; daughter, Lydia Sexton, brother and
sisters-in-law Ralph Altom, Martha Allstun, Aretta Winford, and Lula
Altom.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her children;
Robert Altom and wife Lillian of Benton Harbor, Michigan, Bill Altom
and wife Dixie and Anna Wolf, all of Steelville, Missouri, Ruth
Neeley and husband Wayne of Park Hills, Missouri. Brothers, Leon
Lents and wife Lilly of Benton Harbor, Michigan, J.W. Moore and wife
Delores of Kentucky. Sisters, Juanita Graddy of Arkansas, and Leona
Strange of High Ridge, Missouri; brother and sisters-in-law Cletis
Altom and wife Beulah of Patton, Missouri, Edna Lents of Michigan,
Betty Altom of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; son-in-law George Sexton of
Ozark, Missouri; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces,
nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Visitation was Friday, February 18, 2005 from 6-8 p.m.
at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral Services were
Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 10 a.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri with Brother Jerry Beers officiating.
Music selections were "The Last Mile of the Way" and
"When They Ring Those Golden Bells" sung by Brother Mike Cooper
accompanied on his guitar. Burial was at Dexter Cemetery, Dexter,
Missouri.
Honoring their grandmother, as pallbearers were Joe
Altom, Tim Altom, Robert Altom, Jeff Altom, Matt Altom, and J.J.
Altom.

Ida "Frances" Clay
Ida "Frances" Clay, nee Downing, of Steelville, Missouri
was born on Tuesday, November 27, 1917 at her family home near
Butts, Missouri and departed this life on Monday, February 14, 2005
at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 17 days.
Ida grew up in the Butts and Gibbs area, attending Gibbs
School with her brothers. She married Wilbur (Chub) Clay on April
11, 1932 and to this union five children were born.
Ida spent her younger life as a homemaker in the Liberty
Community near Steelville, Missouri, and then moved to Maryland
where she worked as a caregiver and restaurant worker. After moving
back to Missouri, she lived at Cuba, where she became an active
member of Covenant Praise Church. She loved the Lord and especially
loved to worship and fellowship with her church family. She was
always ready to go, whether to a revival, out with friends or on a
trip to see new places.
Ida's many interests included embroidery, counted
cross-stitch, quilting, crochet and many other handcrafts. She loved
flowers of all kinds and enjoyed gardening. She was always excited
about gathering and canning the harvest of vegetables... "canning
time" as she called it.
She resided for a short time at the Pilkenton
Residential Care Facility, near Cuba, Missouri. Then in October 1997
moved to the Gibbs Care Facility in Steelville until she made her
final move on Monday morning to be forever with the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur (Chub)
Clay; one infant son, Cecil Clay; parents, Dwight and Myrtle
Downing; brothers, Andrew (Buck) Downing, Paris Downing, Thomas
Downing, Clarence Downing and Howard Downing. Sisters-in-law, Ethel
Downing, Edna Downing, Lois Downing, Ruth Downing and Alice Downing;
one son-in-law, Gene Halbert; one grandson-in-law, John Weber; one
granddaughter-in-law, Nancy Sue Halbert and one great granddaughter,
Elizabeth Peterson.
Those who survive to mourn her passing are daughters
Maxine Halbert of Steelville, Missouri, Shirley Presley and husband
Russell of Phoenix, Arizona. Sons, Clarence (Chuck) Clay and wife
Elsie of Havre de Grace, Maryland and Glen Charles Clay and wife
Karen of Sullivan, Missouri. Eleven grandchildren, 17 great
grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
many relatives and friends who knew and love her.
Visitation was Wednesday, February 16, 2005 from 5-9
p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral
services were Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri, with Rev. Mark Smith
officiating. Jerry Beers sang "Go Rest High on the Mountain" and
"Sheltered in the Arms of God." Interment was at the Liberty
Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were
grandsons, Lonnie Halbert, John Halbert and Shaun Clay; great
grandsons, Justin Halbert and Cody Weber and nephew Paul Downing.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Clarence Eugene "Gene" Dicus
Gene Dicus of Steelville, Missouri was born in
Steelville, Missouri Sunday, December 30, 1945 to Edith Dicus, He
departed this life Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at the Missouri
Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 59 years, 1
month, and 10 days.
Gene married Geraldine Chandler on March 17, 1964 in
Leasburg, Missouri and to this union one son was born.
Gene worked most of his life in the timber mill industry
and worked last for Larry Conaway at his mill west of Steelville,
Missouri as a forklift driver until his health failed him. Gene
loved his work and the people he worked with so much that ever when
his health prevented him from working he and Geraldine would still
drive out to the mill to see everyone. Gene enjoyed hunting,
fishing, and raising flowers. He was a member of the Steelville
Country Club.
Gene attended Pentecostal churches most of his life and
made things right by placing his faith and trust in the Lord a few
weeks ago. Gene loved his family and enjoyed the times they had
together.
Gene was preceded in death by a daughter Norma Jean
Dicus, and three brothers Danny, Donnie, and DeWayne Hardin.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving
wife Geraldine of the home; mother and step-father Edith and Arnold
Dunn of Steelville, Missouri; sons, Eugene Dicus Jr. and fiancé
Tasha Downing, and Bobby Link all of Steelville, Missouri.
Brothers and sisters, Joe Hardin and wife Barb of Union,
Missouri, Jerry Hardin, Dermis Hardin, Joyce Hanks and husband Earl,
Janette Wisdom and husband Ron, all of Steelville, Missouri, and
Sandy Zulpo and husband Earnie of St. James, Missouri; nine
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don Chandler and
wife Faye, Bertha Carrick and husband Fred all of Cherryville,
Missouri, Montie Chandler and wife Etta, Rosie Calder and husband
Bill, Lottie Pyatt all of Steelville, Missouri, Donna Wilihite and

of Cuba, Missouri.

and Darlene Retkowski of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives and many friends all who will sadly miss
and fondly remember Gene Dicus.
Visitation was held from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, February 13,
2005 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. Funeral
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 14, 2005 at the
Hutson
Funeral home in Steelville, Missouri with Brother Gene
Whittaker officiating. Music selections were "Precious Memories,"
"When the Roll is Called Up Yonder," "What a Friend We Have in
Jesus," and "Go Rest High."
Burial was in the Keysville Cemetery, in Keysville,
Missouri with pallbearers Roy Carrick, Jason Davis, Bill Smith Tim
Callahan, Bryan Dicus, and Bobby Link.

Audie William Gillam
Audie William Gillam was born Sunday August 28, 1933, in
Washington County, Missouri, a son of the late Rua Carby Gillam and
Ida May Gillam (nee Breakfield).
He entered eternal rest Wednesday February 16, 2005, at
the Parkland Medical Health Center, Farmington, Missouri, at the age
of 71 years, 5 months and 18 days.
In obedience to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ and
in imitation of His example Audie was buried with Him in baptism,
August 16, 1981 at the Lookout Assembly of God Church in Viburnum by
Rev. Edward Gamble.
In addition to his parents, Audie was preceded in death
by two brothers, Arvil Gillam and Chester Gillam and wife Beulah and
three sisters, Eulah Evans and husband Frank, Beulah Edwards and
husband Samuel and Lena Reta Lisitano and husband Tom and
brothers-in-law, Ronnie Eye and Herbert "Johnny" Johnson.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are five
sisters, Geraldine Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri, Norma Wall and
husband Richard of Fenton, Missouri, Barbara McDonald and husband
Terrence of Branson, Missouri, Verneta Eye, Frieda Treadway and
husband Joey all of Union, Missouri. One brother, Austin Gillam and
wife Betty of St. Charles, Missouri; sister-in-law, Deloris Gillam
of Arnold, Missouri; six nieces, 17 nephews, cousins, other
relatives and many friends.
Audie William Gillam lay in state 4-8 p.m. Friday,
February 18, 2005, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, February
19, 2005, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Edward E. Gamble
officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Czar Cemetery,
Viburnum, Missouri. Honoring their uncle as pallbearers were
Clifford Gillam, Randy Gillam, Terry Gillam, Chris Harmon, Dan
Johnson, Robert Wall and Jonathan Yi.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Alice Halbert
Alice Halbert of Cuba, Missouri was born on January 31, 1921 to
the union of John Stevenson and Della Wilson Stevenson and
passed away suddenly on February 14, 2005 at her home at the age of
84 years 13 days.
On April 5, 1947 Alice was united in marriage to
Clarence Halbert of Steelville, Missouri. Three daughters, Gloria,
Janet and Brenda, were born to this union. They were happily married
until Clarence preceded Alice in death on July 22, 1986.
Alice was also preceded in death by her parents and two
grandchildren, twins Adam and Hannah Hutson.
She was a lifelong resident of Cuba and a member of the
Cuba United Methodist Church.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life
are her loving daughters, Gloria Rathgeber and husband George of
Cuba, Missouri, Janet Honse and husband Harlan of Rolla, Missouri
and Brenda Hutson and husband Rainey of Cuba, Missouri.
Six grandchildren, Alicia Shockley and husband Glen and
three children of Cuba, Missouri, John Rathgeber and fiancé Tonya
Ponder of Columbia, Missouri, Jason Craig of Overland Park, Kansas,
Sarah Scott and husband Paul of St. Louis, Missouri, Christy and
Abby Hutson of Cuba, Missouri.
Step-grandchildren, Renee Mayhan and husband Brian and
two children of Columbia, Missouri, Jimmy Hutson and wife Christina
and five children of Sandy, Utah, David Honse and family, Christine
(Honse) Martin and family and Melissa and Elizabeth Honse; other
relatives and friends.
Alice was a devoted wife, loving mother and doting
grandmother and great grandmother, good friend to all who knew her
and will be sadly missed.
Alice Halbert nee Stevenson was in state at the Britton
Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Graveside services were held on
Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri
at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul Lathum officiating.
Interment was in the Kinder Cemetery. All arrangements
were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
Dave Hall
James David Hall, age 69, of Leasburg, Missouri, passed
away on February 10, 2005, at the Sacred Heart Hospital in
Pensacola, Florida, while on vacation. Dave was born in
Indianapolis, Indiana on February 27, 1935.
Dave Hall was the Produce Manager for Ramey's in Rolla,
Missouri for 12 years; he worked as a childcare worker at Boys &
Girls Town of Missouri for 20 years. For the last four years he has
been driving for Fairground Motors in Cuba. Aside from work, Dave
enjoyed many activities, and was an avid boater and fisherman and he
liked to fish for sharks in the Gulf of Mexico. He also liked
reading, gardening, playing cards and watching football and
baseball.
James "Dave" Hall was dearly loved and will be greatly
missed by his surviving family; wife, Linda Sue Hall, of their home
in Leasburg; son, Ron Hall of St. James, Missouri; daughter, Sheri
(Neil) Dye, of Lebanon, Missouri.
Step-daughters, Carlene Smith, of Kirksville and Celeste
(James) Krueger of Fountain Valley, California. Grandchildren,
Nathan, Craig, Anna, Hal Dean, Brittany, Owen, Olivia and Jessica.
Two sisters, Nancy Burdine of Indianapolis, Indiana and Marcia
Reese, of Beech Grove, Indiana.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 25,
2005 at 7 p.m. at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James, Missouri.

Lilmon "Butch" Mathews
Lilmon "Butch" Edward Mathews II of Cuba, Missouri was
born on Tuesday, October 30, 1962 in Pasadena, California to Edward
Leroy Mathews and Barbara Joan Coke Mathews. He passed away at MO
Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday, February 17, 2005
at the age of 42 years, 3 months and 18 days.
Butch married Pamela Jean Harper on August 19, 1983 in
Las Vegas, Nevada and to this union three children were born. Butch
was employed more than 15 years at Meramec Valley Resort as a
maintenance worker. He was very mechanical and also enjoyed reading,
camping and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Lilmon
"Bud" Mathews and Juanita; father Edward Leroy Mathews and uncle
Ronald D. Mathews.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife
Pamela of the home; children Vanessa Marie Mathews, Lilmon E. "LB"
Mathews III, and Nicole Ilene Mathews, all of Cuba, Missouri; mother

Donald Eugene "Gene" Payne
Donald Eugene "Gene" Payne passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2005
at the age 77 years. Mr. Payne was born Sunday, February 13,
1927 at St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up in the Davisville, Missouri
area.
He was a retiree maintenance supervisor for the former
Ozark Airlines. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He
was a member of Gideons International the Ozark Airlines Alumni
Association.
Mr. Payne was survived by his wife Delcie L. Payne, nee
Ryther of St. Louis, Missouri; two daughters, Patricia "Patty" Hake
and her husband Michael of Bridgeton, Missouri and Marilyn Bergjans
of Woodson Terrace, Missouri; a sister, Norma Johnson of O'Fallon,
Missouri and a brother, James E. Payne of Farmington, Missouri. He
had one grandchild.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Friday, February 4 at
Baumann Colonial Chapel followed by a service February 5, 2005 at 11
a.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Church with Rev. A. Mark Friz
officiating.
Interment was at the St. Paul Church Cemetery at Creve
Coeur, Missouri. Arrangements were under the direction of the
Baumann Colonial Chapel in Overland, Missouri.
Faye Morris Sellers
Faye Morris Sellers nee Roth of Steelville, Missouri was
born on Tuesday, July 17, 1951 at Houston, Texas to John Roth and
Violet Copeland Roth. She passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2005
at the age of 53 years, 6 months and 29 days.
Faye married Bob Morris on December 12, 1967 and to this
union three children were born.
Faye later married DeWayne Sellers on October 28, 2000
at Center Point Baptist Church in Steelville, Missouri. She had been
employed as a press operator at Dana Brake Parts in Cuba, Missouri.
Faye helped start the first American Cancer Society Relay for Life
in Cuba, Missouri. She also bought Christmas gifts for needy
children sponsored by her workplace. Her hobbies were camping,
fishing, gardening and raising chickens.
Those who preceded her in death were her parents;
brother Vernon Roth; sister-in-law Kathleen Sellers.
She is survived by her husband DeWayne Sellers of
Steelville, Missouri; daughter Debbie Burke and husband Mike of
Cuba, Missouri; sons Bobby Morris of St. James, Missouri and Scott
Morris of Cuba, Missouri; mother-in-law Ruth Garms of Steelville,
Missouri; father-in-law Homer Sellers of Steelville, Missouri;
sister Rosemary Campbell; brothers John Roth, James Roth, Sonny
Roth, and sister Anna Roth all of Houston, Texas; brothers and
sisters-in-law Winford Sellers and wife Mary and Lindell Sellers all
of Steelville, Missouri; grandmother of four; nieces, nephews,

Walter E. Schatz
Walter E. Schatz of Cuba, Missouri was born on March 17, 1937 in
Cuba, Missouri to Walter Emil Schatz, Sr. and Vadna Hutson
Schatz. He passed away at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri on
Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the age of 67 years, 10 months, and
26 days.
Walter married Lona Marie Burress on July 31, 1982 in
Cuba, Missouri. He was employed by Barnes Hospital for 35 years
where he retired as purchasing director. He was a heart transplant
survivor for 19 years. His hobbies were playing golf, fishing and
deer hunting. He even played softball for a few years on the heart
transplant team.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his
parents; and father-in-law, Noah Burress.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife Lona
Schatz of Cuba, Mo.; daughters Brenda K. Bilyeu and husband Bryon of
Bridgeton, Mo. and Karen Donovan of Maryland Heights, Mo.; sister

Fonville of Florida; grandchildren Christopher Donovan, Tyler

Christopher Wayne Spanke
Christopher Wayne Spanke was born Thursday, December 6, 1962 in
Detroit, Michigan to Linda Marie Winfield Spanke Hubbard and
the late Gary Spanke and departed this life Sunday, January 30, 2005
at the age of 42 years, 1 month and 24 days. Christopher and
companion, Joann Matingly, of Richmond, Kentucky had five children
together.
Christopher was raised as a young child by his father
and step-mother, Cherylene Spanke. Christopher was somewhat of a
roamer, having lived in Michigan, Kentucky, Las Vegas, Nevada and
Kansas, before coming to Missouri.
While in Cuba, Mo. he was befriended by two very special
men of God, Father James Finder, and pastor Terry Mahurin who
ministered to him. Christopher did odd jobs around Cuba, Mo. and was
seeking full time employment before his death.
Christopher was preceded in death by his father Gary
Spanke and one brother Roman Scott Spanke.

Linda Hubbard of Macomb, Michigan, grandmother Daphne Winfield of
Macomb, Michigan, step-mother Cherylene Spanke of Posen, Michigan,
his children Christopher Scott Spanke, Damien Allen Spanke, Heather
Foster, Katrina Lynn Spanke, all of Kentucky and Olivia Guswiler of
Michigan, special friend of Joann Matingly of Kentucky.

the Change of Heart Worship Center in Cuba, Mo. with Pastor Terry

Regina Kay Tirpkoff
Regina Kay Tirpkoff of Steelville, Missouri was born on
Friday, May 29, 1981 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She passed away on
Wednesday. February 16, 2005 in MO Baptist Hospital, Sullivan,
Missouri at the age of 23 years, 8 months, and 18 days.
Regina had been previously employed at Gibbs Care Center
and Jonny's Restaurant. She loved caring for people and especially
her family
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Clyde and
Irene Goebel.

Music selections were "Peace in the Valley" and
"Sheltered in the Arms of God." Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery,
Williamsville, Missouri.
All arrangements were under the direction of Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Beverly Anne "Becky" Wagner
Beverly Anne "Becky" Wagner nee Kidwell of Cuba,
Missouri was born on February 23, 1932 to the union of Elbert
Kidwell and Ada Delphia Sego Kidwell and passed away on February 12,
2005 at the St. Mary's Hospital, Jefferson City, Missouri at the age
of 72 years 11 months and 19 days.
On December 18, 1954 Becky was united in marriage to
Walter A. Wagner at Rolla, Missouri. One daughter, Terri, was born
to this union. Walter preceded Becky in death on January 3, 1988.
Becky was also preceded in death by her parents, one
sister, Rosemary Edwards and one nephew, Donald Edwards.
Becky was a lifelong resident of Cuba, Missouri. She
retired from the United States Forestry Department. She had also
worked for Greenthumb in Steelville and was managing the Senior
Citizens Apartments.
She was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church,
did volunteer work for the Salvation Army, was on the Board of
Directors for the Kinder Cemetery Association and was a member of
the Crawford County Republican Women.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life
are her daughter Terri Lynn Plank and husband Jim; two grandchildren
Amie Plank and Matthew Plank; one sister Joyce Viehman; one great
granddaughter Sophie Plank; niece Sharon Watson; other relatives and
friends.
Becky was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother,
sister, and a good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly
missed.
Beverly Anne "Becky" Wagner nee Kidwell was in state at
the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where funeral services
were held on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Paul
Lathum officiating. All arrangements under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
