MO Local Obituaries for the Week of February 24, 2009 Nellie Leatha Brown Nellie Leatha Tallent Brown was born Sunday, August 31, 1913 in Dillard, Missouri to Christopher Mitchell Tallent and Clara Jane Stringer Tallent. She passed away Monday, February 16, 2009 at the Gibbs Care Center Nursing Home in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 95 years, 5 months, and 16 days. Nellie married John “Ed” Edward Brown on August 5, 1929 in Steelville, Missouri and to this union nine children were born. Nellie accepted the Lord early in life and enjoyed attending church. She was a wonderful homemaker, loving mother and wife. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Edna Brown; daughter, Mabel (Arlis) Callahan; son, Edward “Eddie” C. Brown; sons-in-law, Harold Helms and Howard Lee Setzer; seven brothers, infant Otto, infant Lee, infant Christopher, James (Annie), John (Leora), Elvin (Suzie), Jessie (Laura) Tallent; five sisters, infant Nancy Tallent, infant Margaret Tallent, Alice (Lushen) Pyatt, Bessie (Fielder) Harris, Mary (Lloyd) Cassidy, and brother-in-law Floyd Bell. She is survived by her children, Harry Brown and Linda Helms, all of Steelville, Missouri, Allen (Patricia) Brown, Mary (Dwight) Martin, and Leatha Setzer, all of Cherryville, Missouri, and Rena (Donald) Jackson of Memphis, Tennesse; sister, Lula Bell of Salem, Missouri; grandchildren; great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. Funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Friday February 20, 2009 at the Hutson Funeral Chapel in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. John Ripley and Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating. Burial in the Martin-Trask Cemetery Cherryville, Missouri. All arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. Dee Fox Dee Fox, nee Echols, of St. James, Missouri, formerly of Cuba, Missouri, was born in Washington, Missouri on Saturday, August 2, 1952 to Philip Marion Echols and Deloris Amanda, nee Cason, Echols. She passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the age of 56 years, 6 months, and 20 days. Dee married Chester Lee Fox on April 15, 1978 at Meramec Springs in St. James, Missouri. She was a licensed hair stylist, had previously been employed at Resource Recovery of Crawford County, and Missouri Veterans Home of St. James, Missouri. At one time, she was a volunteer at the Bourbon Community Center and was a member of the Meramec Springs Trout Association. Her hobbies were fishing, photography and reading. Dee was a homemaker, loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; parents-in-law, Don and Dorothy Fox; brothers, Jerry, Michael, and Leslie Echols; sisters-in- law, Betty Echols, Betty Jo Price, and Betty Jane King; nephews, Matthew Toole, Don Fox, and Joshua Celli. She is survived by her husband of the home; children, Tina Reeser, Jim (Lynn) Fox, Michael Fox, Ashley (Michael) Wells, and Jamie Fox; brothers, Philip H. (Terrisita) Echols, Jr. and Ray (Riva) Echols; sister, Marcella (Owen) Beneke; sisters-in-law, Connie Echols and Peggy Degnan; three grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Sherman Lee Ray Sherman Lee Ray of Steelville, Missouri was born on Sunday, December 25, 1921 in Leasburg, Missouri to William W. Ray and Anna A. (Payne) Ray. He passed away at Kindred Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri on Monday, February 16, 2009 at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 22 days. Sherman served his country honorably in the Army Air Corp. He married Geraldine Alice Wretling on March 27, 1949 in Granite City, Illinois and to this union four children were born. Sherman retired from the Madison County, Highway Department in Edwardsville, Illinois as a maintenance man. He attended Huzzah Baptist Church and recently accepted the Lord as his Savior. His hobbies were farming, raising cows, hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and liked eating chocolate candy. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Bonnie Ray; infant grandson, Christopher Ray; brothers, Clark (Glenda) Ray, James Ray, Junior Ted Ray, Raymond Ray; sisters, Lucy Ray, Faye (Ben) West, Edna (Bob) Forrest, Charlesetta (Les) Petty, brothers-in-law, Fred West and Mike Ray. He is survived by his wife of the home; children, Dennis (Sharon) Ray of Clovis, New Mexico, Annette (Keith) Milton of Worden, Illinois, and Susan (Neil) Sperandio of Pocahontas, Illinois; sisters, Bernadine West of Sullivan, Missouri, Patsy VanHoose of Kirksville, Missouri, Hazel (Bob) Coffman of Topeka, Kansas, and Maryann (Bob) Binsbacher of Chandler, Arizona; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held Wednesday, February 18, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral service was Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Leonard Moreland officiating.
