MO Local Obituaries for the Week of February 24, 2010 Bonny Sue Brewer Bonny Sue Brewer of Cuba, Missouri, was born on February 11, 1930, in Caraway, Arkansas and passed away Friday, February 12, 2010, at the age of 80 years. She worked at Bussmann Fuse Company for 27 years, most of it in management. Most people in the Sullivan area know Bonny as owner of The Attic Flea Market where she operated it for 17 years. Bonny accepted Jesus as her Savior as a young child at her home. In 1992, she rededicated her life to the Lord at Old Argo Presbyterian Church where she has maintained her membership. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James Warren and Paul Webster Brown. She is survived by one daughter, Paula Adams and husband Lloyd of Cuba, Missouri; four sisters, Betty Hoggard and husband Carl of Chandler, Texas, Mary Elizabeth Kuiper and husband David of Perryville, Missouri, Shirley Ann Redding of Caraway, Arkansas and Shelby Jean Heeb and husband Fred of Harrisburg, Arkansas; a grandson, Lloyd Lester Adams and wife Marcia of Joplin, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Carlton of Edgar Springs, Missouri was born in Oates, Missouri on July 9, 1919 to Charles and Emaline (Myers) Carlton and passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the age of 90 years. Clifford spent the majority of his life in Edgar Springs, Missouri. He was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan and was a great helper with the family’s timberwork, gardening and produce business. He loved pitching horseshoes and loved animals. He always had a smile for everyone and never met a stranger. On August 25, 1942 she married Albert “Pete” Hance. Dorothy was a longtime member of the First Assembly of God in Rolla, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Margaret Huskey; husband, Pete Hance; brother, William Huskey and sister, Gladys Light. She is survived by five children, Gwendolyn Paul and husband Lester of Doolittle, Missouri, Larry Hance and wife Ellen of Ft. Bonnie was a member of the Church of Christ. She and her husband Arthur operated a dry cleaning business and The Creamy in addition to maintaining a farm. She retired from the Missouri Veterans Home after 20 years. Norma attended Rochelle High School in Rochelle, Texas. She later attended cosmetology school and owned and operated several beauty salons throughout her career. She actively participated and won many hairdressing contests while working in the field of cosmetology. She taught at Carl’s Beauty College in St. Joseph, Missouri for several years. She was a member of the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology and held offices on the Missouri State Executive Board. Norma was a member of the Amity United Methodist Church. She was an avid cook and enjoyed cooking for church dinner, her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Porterfield; son, Jerry W. Gregory Steven Price Gregory Steven Price of Steelville, Missouri was born on February 28, 1964 in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles Robert Price and Barbara Jane Cornelius Price and passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the age of 45 years, 11 months and 19 days. Gregory married Tammy Lestarge in Gerald, Missouri on June 14, 1998 and to this union two children were born. At one time, Gregory traveled with carnivals taking care of the animals and clowning. Later on, he worked on the Mississippi River barges and was a woodcutter. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Price and father-in-law, Robert Lestarge. Thomas “Haley” Saltsman USAF Lt. Col. (Ret.) Thomas “Haley” Saltsman, of Fairborn, Ohio, (formerly of Steelville, Missouri) was born in St. Louis, Missouri on September 9, 1925 and passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the age of 84 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, and received an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946 where he was a photographer. He received a B.S. Degree from the Naval Academy in 1950 majoring in Marine Engineering, and a M.S. Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Michigan in 1958. During his time with the military, he served eight years as an analyst and collector in the Foreign Technology Division at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. He was Senior Controller at Travis AFB Airlift Command Post (MAC), Assistant to the Chief, Airlift Command Post, and was responsible for the movement of all aircraft through Travis AFB. He served in World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam, flying over 50 missions from Travis AFB to Vietnam. He had over 10,000 hours flying time in over 50 aircraft types. One of the highlights of his career was flying the Russian TU-114, Khrushchev’s presidential airplane in February of 1960. He retired from the Air Force in 1969 and returned to the Dayton area where he flight instructed and flew charter work. He worked as an Intelligence Analyst Engineer at Wright-Patterson AFB from 1971 until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed his memberships in the Daedalians, Quiet Birdmen, MOAA, and American Legion Dignam-Whitmore Post 526. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty May (James) in 1987; his parents, Marion and Ralph Saltsman. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Saltsman; son, Tom Saltsman and wife, Terri, all of West Chester, Ohio; granddaughters, Ashley and Jennifer; other relatives and friends. James Monroe Scott James Monroe Scott of Sullivan, Missouri, was born on December 1, 1943, to Oscar Winfield and Lenora Gertrude, nee Shelton, Scott and passed away Friday, February 12, 2010 in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 66 years. He received his early education in Union School District and graduated from Pacific High School. He also received a Pastoral Ministries Diploma from Southwest Baptist Seminary Extension. On May 25, 1963 he was united in marriage to Naomi Ruth Lackey. In 1966, John Rice Sr. gave him his first opportunity as a radio announcer on KTUI Radio. Jim was a talented musician and the instrument of his choice was the pedal steel guitar. In 1969 he pursued a career as a musician with Jim & Jesse and the Virginia Boys touring the country and playing on the Grand Ole Opry. He also had the opportunity to accompany various country artists including Loretta Lynn and Jimmy Martin. He was a Radio Announcer with KLPW for 15 years on the Jim Scott Rise and Shine Show. Jim followed God’s call to the ministry in 1978. His ministry led him to Pastor at Green Mound Baptist Church, St Clair; Oak Grove Baptist Church, Fletcher; Reedville Baptist Church and True Vine Baptist Church, Sullivan. When Jim retired from full-time ministry, he created a radio show on KTUI known as Jim Scott’s Classic Saturdays. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy David Scott, died in infancy; his parents, Oscar and Lenora Scott; a brother, Lloyd Scott; and three sisters, Hazel Vickers, Birdie Nelson, and Janice Kennedy.
