Elmer Castanis
Elmer Castanis of Cuba, Mo. was born April 12, 1921 at St. Louis, Mo. to
the union of George Castanis and Ida (Krummel) Castanis and passed away on
February 19, 2003 at the Cuba Manor of Cuba, Mo. at the age of 81 years, 10
months and 7 days.
On October 7, 1942 he was inducted into the Army of the United States of
America and was honorably discharged on February 17, 1946. He was also a
member of the Cuba VFW, American Legion and Optimist Club.
On June 1, 1950 Elmer was united in marriage to Ida Krummel. The enjoyed
almost forty years together until she preceded him in death on April 1,
1990.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are one brother
Thomas Castanis and wife Dorothy of St. Louis, Mo., dear friend Sharon
Burdick and husband Tom of Cuba, Mo.; four brothers-in-law, James, John,
Louis, and Donald Debeaux, five sisters-in-law, Margaret Hay, Augusta
Drummonds, Doris Ashbrook, Sallye Lemons and Patricia Comer; nieces,
nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Elmer was a devoted husband, loving brother, uncle, and dear friend to all
who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Elmer Castanis was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Graveside services were held on Friday, February 21, 2003 at Jefferson
Barracks, St. Louis, Mo.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo.
Alice M. De Ciechi
Alice M. De Ciechi was born Sunday, August 31, 1913 in Cherry Valley, Mo.
to the late Theophilus Hinch and Effie Mae Wilson Hinch and departed this
life Thursday, February 20, 2003 at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 20
days.
Alice married Mike A. De Ciechi on December 27, 1942 at St. Ambrose
Catholic Church in St. Louis, Mo. They made their home together in St.
Louis, Mo., until moving to Steelville, Mo. in 1969. Alice and Mike reached
a great milestone of 60 years of marriage.
Alice enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, sewing, cooking, fishing, and loved
her family very much. She and Mike were like second grandparents to their
great nieces and nephews.
Alice accepted the Lord many years ago and was a member of the Rivers of
Life Fellowship Church in Steelville, Mo.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clarence Hinch,
Clyde Hinch and wife Helen, two sisters, Agnes Graham and husband Jim, Nona
Doerr and husband Victor, two brothers-in-law James Cape and Charles De
Ciechi, and one sister-in-law Mary De Ciechi.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her loving husband Mike De Ciechi
of their home in Steelville, Mo.; her sister Margaret Cape of Steelville,
mo., brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Leo De Ciechi of St. Louis, Mo.; and
Joe De Ciechi and wife Doris of O'Fallon, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins,
other relatives and many friends, all who will sadly miss and fondly
remember Alice M. De Ciechi.
Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2003 at the
Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville. Mo.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2003 at the
Rivers of Life Fellowship Church in Steelville, Mo. with Pastor Jeff
Gilliland, and Pastor Chuck Whitmire officiating. Marsha Light sang Beulah
Land, and In The Garden, accompanied by Darlene Cape on the piano.
Pallbearers were Michael Cape, Joshua Cape, Scott Cape, Joe De Ciechi,
Ricky Graham, Mark Hinch, Michael Light, and Phillip Radford.
Burial was in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. All arrangements
under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
