Beulah M. Bergner
Beulah M. Bergner of Sullivan, Mo. passed away on Thursday, February 21,
2002 at the age of 76 years.
Mrs. Bergner was born on November 10, 1925 in Sullivan to Earl and Edna
(King) Gargus, and remained a lifelong resident of the Sullivan area. On
October 31, 1947 she was joined in marriage to Carl Bergner, Sr. at
Rosebud, Mo., and to their union four children were born. In addition to
serving her family as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker,
Beulah worked in the timber with her husband. She enjoyed reading, working
crossword puzzles, and watching soap operas in her later years. Beulah will
be remembered and cherished by those who knew her as an extremely generous
person.
She is survived by two sons, Carl Bergner, Jr. and wife, Violet, and Monte
Bergner and wife, Rose, all of Bourbon, Mo.; two brothers, Chester Gargus
and wife, Jenny, of Sullivan and Robert Gargus and wife, Bertha, of
Bourbon; two sisters, Evelyn Simmerly and husband, Junior, of Bourbon and
Kathryn Flores of the state of California; twelve grandchildren, sixteen
great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs.
Bergner was preceded in death by one son in infancy, Allen Wayne Bergner,
one daughter, Wilma Gonzalez, one brother, Howard Gargus, and two sisters,
Pearl Honea and Violet Studdard.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2002 from
the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Richard
Williams officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation
was from 4:30 until 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2002, and from 12 noon
until the time of service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 24, 2002 at the
Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Lillie Mae Hernandez
Lillie Mae (Callahan) Hernandez was born Friday, January 23, 1942 at
Davisville, Mo., the daughter of the late Arvel Callahan and Villia Emma
(Bryant) Callahan. She entered eternal rest Thursday, February 14, 2002, at
the Forest Park Hospital, St. Louis, Mo., at the age of 60 years and 21
days.
In addition to her parents, two brothers, Gene Callahan and Junior
Callahan, one sister Nillia Callahan, sister-in-law Joan Callahan,
brother-in-law Frank Hunter and her grandparents, preceded her in death.
She was married to Pete Hernandez June 4, 1960. Three sons and one daughter
were born to this union.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her three sons, Peter
Hernandez, Jr., Joey Hernandez and wife Tammy, all of St. Louis, Mo. and
Michael Hernandez stationed in Germany and her daughter, Paula and husband
Brandon Johnson of St. Louis, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
Also remaining are three brothers, Clarence Callahan, Robert Callahan and
wife Rosemary, all of Cherryville, Mo., Ray Callahan and wife Barbara of
Steelville, Mo.; four sisters, Emma and husband Kenneth Williams, Rosetta
and husband Johnny Hubert, all of Cherryville, Mo., Loretta Spearman and
friend Bill Cassidy of Steelville, Mo. and Ima Hunter of Kirkwood, Mo.; as
well as a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
She was a devoted Christian for many years. A wonderful mother and great
inspiration to all whom came into contact with her, especially her family.
Even though she couldn't get out of bed she enjoyed having church over the
telephone with a friend in Christ. She looked forward to Sunday mornings.
She really enjoyed her Bible and kept it with her.
A very important part of her life was her son Junior singing songs with her
and being a devoted son, and being by her side at all times. She also loved
to spend time with her granddaughter, Annabella.
As a mother, Lillie instilled in her children a strong belief in God, which
provides them even today with the moral guidance to be better people. By
example, Lillie taught her children how to be good and loving parents. They
attribute their success with their own children to her. Lillie was
convinced that her own children could accomplish anything. That faith has
led her children to have confidence in their own abilities and to strive to
excel in all their endeavors. Through success and failures her children
knew that their mother was proud of them.
Lillie Mae Hernandez lay in state 3-8 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2002, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were
held 11 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2002 in the Britton Chapel with Rev.
Jerry Beers officiating. Pianist Shirley Brown and vocalist Carol Coleman
provided musical selections.
Committal prayers and internment were in Martin Cemetery, Cherryville, Mo.
Serving as pallbearers were Randy Hubert, Brandon Johnson, Chris
Schoenfield, Brian, Dale and Jeff Williams.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Eugene Lovan
Eugene Lovan passed away at his home in Kirkwood, Mo. at the age of 89
years. Eugene married Artie Hendrix December 21, 1935 in Union, Mo. and to
this union three children were born.
Eugene worked as an auto mechanic before retiring. He was a past member of
the Eagles in St. Louis, Mo. and belonged to the machinist union local
#777. He was an avid reader, enjoyed hunting, and fishing, watching motor
sports, and wrestling.
Eugene's hobbies included small engine repair and earlier in life he built
racing go-carts, and rode motorcycles. He enjoyed CB radios and his handle
was the polecat.
Eugene accepted the Lord early in life and was a member of the Tower Grove
Baptist Church in St. Louis, Mo.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, four sisters
Mary McGeehee and husband Ruby, Elizabeth Martin and husband Sam, Helen
Evans and husband Vernon "Red"; Donna Moore Souders, and husbands Robert
and Fred; one brother Max Lovan and wife Pearl, and brothers-in-law and
sister-in-law, Arthur Hendrix, Stanley Hendrix, Raymond and Roberta White.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife Artie Hendrix Lovan of Kirkwood, Mo.;
two sons Richard Lovan and wife Barbara of Manchester, Mo.; Laurence Lovan
and wife Wanda of Webster Groves, Mo.; one daughter Jeanie Martin and
husband Art of Plano, Texas; one brother Elmer Lovan and wife Judy of
Jefferson City, Mo., one sister Alive Tourville of Afton, Mo.;
brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Jewell and Gladine Hendrix of Farmington,
Mo., Lida Hendrix of St. Louis, Mo. and Ruth Hendrix of Columbia, Mo.,
nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends, all who will
fondly remember and sadly miss Eugene Lovan.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Saturday,
March 2, 2002 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the
Hutson Funeral Chapel in Steelville, Mo.
Burial will be in the Schmidt Cemetery near Japan, Mo. at 2:30 p.m. March
2, 2002.

Steelville, Mo.
Wilma Neuner
Wilma Jean Neuner of the Gasconade Manor Nursing Home in Owensville died
Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at the Manor. She was 73 years old.
She was born August 3, 1928, in Cuba, a daughter of Elmer and Eva Parker
Collins. She was married to Charles Neuner, and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Neuner is survived by one sister, Irene Brewer of Cuba.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and one sister, Beryle
Danuser.
Mrs. Neuner was cremated. Arrangements were made under the direction of
Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville.
Jana Bell Schroeder
Jana Bell Schroeder of Leasburg, Mo. passed away on Tuesday, February 19,
2002 at the age of 61 years.
Jan, as her family and friends knew her, was born at Eminence, Mo. on
August 17, 1940 to Virginia L. (Dillon) Dixon and the late Jesse M. Dixon.
She was raised in St. Louis, Mo. and had lived the majority of her life
there. On July 6, 1957 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Schroeder and
to this union five children were born. They had made their home in the
Leasburg, Mo. area since 1973. Jan was a loving mother, who was known as a
super mom and wife, dedicated business partner, and constant companion. She
found pleasure in traveling and flower gardening. She also enjoyed playing
golf and was a member of Sullivan Country Club. Jan had taught catechism at
the School of Religion at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Ferguson, Mo.
before moving to Leasburg. She was currently a member of Saint Frances
Parish in Bourbon. During her life, Jan touched many lives and was never a
stranger to anyone. Her joy and effervescence were contagious to all around
her and she will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth of the family home; one son, Gary
Schroeder and wife Anne of Kansas City, Mo.; four daughters, Sandra Ransom
of St. Charles, Mo., Kathryn Heintz and husband Scott of Cuba, Mo., Julie
Spradling and husband Curtis of St. Charles, Mo. and Cheryl Zimmerman and
husband David of Wildwood, Mo.; her mother, Virginia Dixon of Bourbon, Mo.;
one brother, Ron Dixon of the state of Maryland; one sister, Jena Beth Word
of Florissant, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, February
22, 2002 from Saint Francis Catholic Church, Bourbon, Mo. with Rev. Ken
Steinhouser officiating. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Funeral
arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Mo.
The family desires memorials to the American Diabetes Association of Saint
Francis Catholic Church of Bourbon, Mo.
Robert Francis Stubbs
Robert "Bud" Francis Stubbs of Cuba, Mo. was born on June 20, 1927 to the
union of Roy Stubbs and Florence Albright Stubbs in St. Louis, Mo. and
passed away on February 18, 2002 at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 29
days.
On December 26, 1952 he was united in marriage to Shirley Hewlett at
Pocahantas, Arkansas. To this union three children were born, Michael,
Cathy and Sandy. They were happily married until her death on August 20,
1979. On March 7, 1991 Robert was united in marriage to Wanda Chandler in
Mammoth Springs, Arkansas.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley Stubbs; one
brother Jim Stubbs.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 600. Robert also enjoyed wood
working, he loved to make furniture and build little things out of wood.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife
Wanda; one son Michael Stubbs; two daughters Cathy Chandler and husband
Jim; Sandy Ellington and husband Steve; two step-daughters, Lesa Schroyer
and husband Darren; Christy Pilkenton and husband Scott; one brother Norman
Stubbs; three sisters, Nell Dachraden and husband Art; Lorraine Stubbs;
Dorothy Rosner and husband Bill; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Robert was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather,
great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and a good friend to all who knew him
and will be sadly missed.
Robert "Bud" Francis Stubbs was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Thursday, February 21, 2002
with Rev. Gary Mace officiating. Interment was in the Meramec Hills
Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Alice Ruth Taylor
Alice Ruth Taylor nee Brown of Stanton, Mo. was born Tuesday, October 9,
1923 in Steelville, Mo. to the late Job Richard Brown and Elva Mae Murray
Brown and departed this life Thursday, February 21, 2002 at her nieces
residence in Cuba Mo. at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 12 days.
Alice married Carl Vernon Taylor on April 15, 1950 at the 3rd Baptist
Church in St. Louis, Mo. by Dr. C. Oscar Johnson and they made their home
together for over 51 years.
Alice worked most of her life as a factory worker, working at Small Arms
Company as an inspector during the war and later at Carter Carburetor. She
worked a number of years in a cap factory and also at a shoe factor in
Cuba, Mo. Alice worked at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Mo. in the
kitchen before retiring.
Alice accepted the Lord as her personal savior many years ago and was
instrumental in leading her husband Carl to the Lord, and later Carl
surrendered to the ministry and she became a pastor's wife as well. Alice
taught Sunday School and W.M.U. for many years and helped Carl in his
ministry visiting the sick and witnessing to the lost. She continued to
serve the Lord even in her illness.
Alice enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and handwork. She made many
beautiful dollies and gave them away. She was always helping others.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Henry Arthur
Brown; Jewel Guy Brown; Ralph Henderson Brown, Orville Franklin Brown, and
Clifford Stanley Brown; one sister Edith Mae Brand; her brother-in-laws and
sister-in-laws Gertrude Rosella Hardin Brown, Hallie Gregory Brown, Leslie
Brand, Kenneth Garrison Taylor, and Mary Alice Back.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her loving and devoted husband
Rev. Carl Vernon Taylor of Stanton, Mo., her special niece Kay Worley and
husband Ed of Cuba, Mo.; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws James Allen
Taylor and wife Shirley of Ringgold, Georgia; John Lee Back of Mt. Vernon,
Illinois; Karen Simons and husband Gary of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; and Anna
Mae Brown of Newburg, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
many friends, all who will fondly remember and sadly miss Alice Ruth Brown
Taylor.
Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2002 at the
Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2002 at the Hutson
Funeral Chapel in Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson, Rev. Harry
Pryor, and Rev. Milo Haynes officiating.
Paul and Spencer Hutson sang Won't It Be Wonderful There and What a Friend
We Have in Jesus, accompanied by Valerie Hutson on the piano, and Paul
Hutson sang Look For Me by tape backup.
Pallbearers were Ed Worley, Ken Brown, Bob Brown, Roger Brown, David
Cornick, and Jim Cain.
Burial was in the Brown Cemetery east of Steelville, Mo. All arrangements
were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
