Priscilla "Pat" Bass
Priscilla Bass nee Franklin was born Sunday, March 23, 1913, at Ardmore,
Oklahoma, a daughter of the late Wirt and Mary Cecil Franklin. She entered
eternal rest Thursday, February 22, 2001, in the Phelps County Regional
Medical Center, Rolla, Mo., at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 30 days.
On September 22, 1936, at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Priscilla was united in
marriage to Rowland Joseph Bass, son of Claude and Pearl (Stafford) Bass.
Two sons and two daughters were born to this union.
Rowland preceded her in death, April 8, 1985. She was also preceded in
death by one brother and one sister-in-law, Chester A. and Madge Franklin;
three sisters, Louise Metzger, Jewell Cleveland, and Betty Jean Neighbors
and two brothers-in-law, Claude and Ladie Bass.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are two sons, Phillip Rowland
Bass and wife Kathleen and Robert Franklin Bass all of Steelville, Mo.; two
daughters, Dr. Priscilla Ann Timmerberg and husband John Charles Timmerberg
of St. Louis, Mo., and Mary Rowena Bass Winters of Warrensburg, Mo.
Two sisters-in-law, Rowena Bass Cole of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Emma
Jean Bass Carter of Steelville, Mo.; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen
great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many
friends.
Priscilla attended Stephens College (1929-1931), the University of Missouri
(1931-1933), and graduated from the University of Oklahoma, Norman. After
receiving a degree in Journalism, she taught grades 1-8 at Oak Shade
School, between Steelville and Cuba.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Steelville, since moving
to Steelville. She loved teaching the senior ladies Sunday School Class,
playing the piano and sang in the Ensemble at the church.
She was a member of the Martha Mary Order of the Eastern Star #364,
Steelville, Mo., for over fifty years, a member of the Progressive Club,
and the Regional Library Board.
She started painting in the early 60's, taking classes in Steelville
studying with Matthew Ziegler and Charles Rinehart. She loved to paint the
old barns around Steelville. She was well traveled, touring Europe, Jamica,
Canada, and Mexico.
Priscilla Franklin Bass lay in state 4 - 8 p.m. Friday, February 23. 2001,
at the Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Eastern Star Memorial Services
were held 7 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2001, in the Britton Chapel with
Martha Mary OES #364 officiating.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2001, at the First
Baptist Church, Steelville, Mo. with Dr. Cardis Bryan officiating. Musical
selections were provided by vocalist Georgia Beth Barksdale,
pianist/organist Rusty Cook and Rob Housewright leading the congregational
hymn.
Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Stephan Bass, Robert (Bear) Bass, Jr., Art
Hughes, Paul Hughes, John Scott and Andrew Winters.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Mayme Viola Coleman
Mayme Viola Coleman nee Pinnell was born Friday, June 9, 1905 in Scotia,
Mo., to James Madison Pinnell and Addie Courtney Lewis, and departed this
life February 21, 2001 in Hollywood, Florida at the age of 95 years, 8
months and 12 days.
Mayme grew up on a farm near Steelville, Mo. She attended school at Scotia.
On June 3, 1923 she was united in marriage to Peter Henderson Coleman in
Steelville, Mo. and to this union three children were born.
They moved to St. Louis when the children were young. Mayme worked as a
riveter during World War II for Curtis Wright Aircraft Co. She was also a
housewife and mother.
She professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal savior, and was a
member of Fairview Baptist Church in Jennings, Mo., and later First Baptist
Church in St. Johns, Mo.
She liked to sew, and enjoyed playing the organ and singing. In 1960 they
moved to Florida for health reasons. Mayme enjoyed a long life and was able
to stay in her own home until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter Henderson
Coleman; one son Paul Channing Coleman; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Coleman;
one son-in-law Howard Ulrich; three brothers, Carl Pinnell, James Lloyd
Pinnell, and William Floyd Pinnell; and one sister, Bessie Helen Pinnell.
Those who remain to morn her passing are her children: Mildred Ulrich of
Ballwin, Mo., and Shirley Elliott and husband John of Festus, Mo.; two
sisters-in-law, Nora Lea of Steelville, Mo., and Lois Mathews and husband
Bill of Steelville, Mo.; one brother-in-law Owen Coleman of Steelville,
Mo.; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great, great
grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, all who will
sadly miss and fondly remember Mayme Viola Coleman.
Visitation was held on Sunday, February 25, 2001 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.
at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
Funeral Service was held on Monday, February 26, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the
Hutson Funeral Chapel in Steelville, mo. with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson
officiating.
Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery, Steelville, Mo.
Memorials may be given to any Hospice organization. All arrangements were
under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
Angus W. Falloon
Angus W. Falloon of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Tuesday, February 20,
2001 at the age of 86 years and 26 days.
Mr. Falloon was born at Bourbon, Missouri on January 24, 1915 to the late
William and Anna Asplin Falloon. He was a life-long resident of the Bourbon
and Sullivan areas where he was actively involved in raising cattle. On
April 15, 1938 he was married to Gertrude Gallinger and to this marriage
one son was born. Mr. Falloon honorably served his country during W.W.II
with the U.S. Army. He saw action in Northern France, Rhineland and
Normandy and was awarded three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart for wounds
received in France on August 3, 1944. As a result of ill health, Mr.
Falloon left his farm to make his home the past year at the Missouri
Veterans Home at St. James.
He is survived by one son, Gary Falloon and wife Donna of Manvel, Texas,
four grandchildren, Allan Falloon, Shelly Dierking, Chris Strauser and
Stephanie Falloon, three brothers, Cobern Falloon of Sullivan, Gene and
Lilbern Falloon both of Sacramento, California, other relatives and
friends. Along with his wife Gertrude, Mr. Falloon was preceded in death by
five brothers, Garnet, Maybern, Melbern, Woodrow, and Warren Falloon and by
three sisters, Opal Bouse, Pearl Kerns and Jewel Swanson.
Private family funeral services were conducted on Friday, February 23, 2001
from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment in New Rock
Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.
Elmer H. Hall
Elmer H. Hall of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, February 20,
2001 at the age of 81 years.
Mr. Hall was born on February 21, 1919 at Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to the
late Malen C. and Sarah (Brown) Hall. He was raised in Walnut Ridge and
also attended school there. On June 30, 1973 Elmer was married to Mary
Mattingly in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. He was employed for a time as a
truck driver for Ethylene-Roller in Eureka, Missouri and Virginiadaire in
Valley Park, Missouri. For the past eighteen years Elmer and Mary made
their home in Sullivan. Mr. Hall was a member of Faith Assembly of God in
Sullivan. He was a good husband and a loving father who will be remembered
by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Sullivan; two sons, David Hall and
wife, Joyce of Steelville, Missouri and Danny Hall and wife, Pat of
Sullivan; two daughters, Linda Nelson and husband, Michael of Union,
Missouri and Elouise Poertner and husband, Donald of Pacific, Missouri;
thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, one
great-great-grandchild, other relatives, and fiends. Mr. Hall was preceded
in death by two grandchildren, five brothers, Erwin, Ralph, Clarence, lra
and Harry Hall, and one sister, Flora Schultz.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2001
from the Faith Assembly of God in Sullivan with Pastor Dan Martin
officiating. Interment was in Anaconda Cemetery, St. Clair, Missouri.
Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home,
Sullivan, Missouri.
Hershel Ernest Harris
Hershel Ernest Harris was born in Crawford County, Mo., Sunday, September
18, 1932, a son of the late William and Edna (Pyatt) Harris.
He departed this life Saturday, February 17, 2001, at the Phelps County
Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Mo., at the age of 68 years, 4 months and
30 days.
Hershel served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951 to
1955.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are four sisters, Helen
Turnbough and husband Roy of Steelville, Mo., Virgie Santambrogio and
husband Robert, also of Steelville, Mo., Isolene Kuenz and husband Frank of
Texas, and May Farrar of Bourbon, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives and many friends.
Hershel Ernest Harris lay in state from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, February
18, 2001, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2001, in the
Britton Chapel with Rev. Bob Coleman officiating.
Musical selections were provided by Bob and Carol Coleman.
Committal prayers and interment were in Martin Cemetery, Cherryville, Mo.
Serving as pallbearers were Bill Gilliam, Rick Graham, Henry Isgriggs, Mike
Ryan, Joe Turnbough and Dale Welker.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Emma Rose Vineyard
Emma Rose Vineyard nee McDowell was born Friday, May 24, 1913, at
Cleveland, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Ira and Frances (Triplett)
McDowell. She entered eternal rest Friday, February 9, 2001, in the Gibbs
Care Center, Steelville, Mo., at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 17 days.
On June 3, 1934, Rose was united in marriage to Dr. George D. Vineyard. One
daughter was born to this union. He preceded her in death August 3, 1994.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest (Estelee)
McDowell, Ira (Edith) McDowell, Dillon McDowell and three sisters, Thelma
(Posey) Barker, Addie Bell (Harle) Lawson, Opal McDowell; sisters-in-law
Joyce (James) McDowell, Josephine Frank; brothers-in-law Howard (Thelma)
and Kelly Vineyard.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her daughter and
son-in-law, Diane and Dan Cape of Steelville, Mo.; foster daughter Denise
Pettit of Colcord, Oklahoma; a granddaughter, Deidre Cape and grandson
David Cape of Steelville, Mo.; one brother, James McDowell of Cleveland,
Tennessee; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Steelville, Mo. and a
charter member of the Tuesday Afternoon Club.
Rose worked as a window dresser for Woolworth's in Memphis while her
husband, "Sport," was in dental school. She developed an interest in
interior design and continued to use this talent in her many homes.
She moved to Steelville in April of 1942 and soon adopted it as her
hometown. In the 1940's she was active with Red Cross blood drives and was
'on call' from Children's Hospital to be a special blood donor. She was
active in church in such areas as the nursery and the library. She
volunteered with the Senior Food Program and with Special Education Classes
at the Elementary School.
She was devoted to her daughter yet her deepest regret was that she had
only one child. Her heart and her home were always open to a child needing
a place to stay whether it was for a night, a week or many years. Her
greatest accomplishment was celebrating a 60th wedding anniversary with her
husband. Her family called her Memi for the last 34 years and every day she
loved being a grandmother.
Emma Rose Vineyard lay in state 5 - 8 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2001, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were
held 2 p.m., Sunday, February 11, 2001, in the Britton Chapel with Cardis
Bryan officiating. Musical selections were provided by Deloris Bell.
Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Mo. Serving as pallbearers were: Robert Cowling, Phillip Emmons, Robert
Eaton, Dr. Kenneth Colbert, Robert Housewright and Larry Howdeshell, Sr.
Arnold Lee Woodcock, Sr.
Arnold Lee Woodcock, Sr. of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Monday,
February 19, 2001 at the age of 55 years.
Arnie, as he was known by his family and friends, was born on January 27,
1946 at Stanton, Missouri to the late James Earl and Eva Dorothy Gallinger
Woodcock. He was a 1964 graduate of Sullivan High School, and in September
of 1967 was inducted into the U.S. Army. He honorably served his country in
Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action.
After his discharge, Arnie returned to the Stanton area where he worked for
a time with the State Highway Department as a surveyor. He later was
employed at various places which included Meramec Mining Company, Maverick
Tube Company in Union, Missouri, and the Missouri Eastern Correctional
Center in Pacific, Missouri as a guard. Arnie was a lifetime member of the
Russell Schmidt V.F.W. Post # 3987 of Sullivan In his spare time he found
great pleasure in hunting and fishing.
He is survived by a son, Arnie Woodcock, Jr. of Sullivan; three brothers,
David Woodcock and wife, Pat of St. Louis, Frank Woodcock of Stanton, and
Kenneth Woodcock of the state of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Pauline Ferry
of High Ridge, Missouri, and Darlene Dace and husband, Don of Bourbon,
Missouri; a close personal friend, caregiver, and "the love of his life,"
Annie Blankenship of Sullivan, other relatives and friends. In addition to
his parents, Arnie was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Charles
Ferry.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2001
from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Mike King officiating.
Interment was in the Stanton Cemetery with full military honors. Those who
desire may make memorials to the Stanton Cemetery Fund.
