Helen married Cecil R. Brown on March 19, 1950 at Cuba, Missouri. Helen worked 17 years for the Cuba Shoe Factory and in 1971 she went to work as a Punch Press for Schwitzer in Rolla, Missouri. After 21 years with Schwitzer, Helen retired in 1992. Helen was a member of the Cuba Free Will Baptist Church for 53 years and nine months, making her the longest attending member. Helen was a member of the Red Hat Ladies Club and TOPS. Helen was known for her baking especially cherry pies and stollens. Julius Grover Brown, Jr. Julius Grover Brown, Jr. was born June 1, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri to Julius Grover and Talpha Jane (Rife) Brown and passed away February 25, 2015 at the age of 83 years, 8 months 25 days. On December 1, 1951 he was married to Betty Lou Gahr in Salem, Arkansas by the Reverend Busby and witnessed by the pastor's wife. To that union five children were born. J.G., as he was known, attended grammar school in St. Louis, Missouri. Upon his parents retirement the family moved to a farm in Sligo, Missouri, where he graduated from Steelville High School in 1949. While in high school he sang in a quartet that competed at State Competition. He received a 2 rating. After graduation the family moved to Salem, Missouri and he attended University of Missouri- Rolla for a year with studies in mechanical engineering. From 1950 to 1952 he was an edge trimmer at his Uncle Nick's business, Ben Hur Erection Company in St. Louis, Missouri. On February 26, 1952 he was drafted in the United States Army where he served in the 10th Recon Co 10th Infantry Division, Armor Branch as a tank operator. He was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas. He obtained the rank of Corporal and honorably discharged on February 25, 1954. From then until his retirement his major line of employment was trucking. He was an over-the-road long haul driver for many years transporting steel, produce, grain and probably his most favorite, cattle. Besides being known as a cattle hauler or trail boss, he was an avid golfer. Richard was a career military man, retiring from the US Army after 20 years, serving during WWII, the Korean Conflict and also during the Vietnam Conflict. She belonged to a quilt club and they would get together and make lap quilts for veterans. At one time the club came to St. James and handed out their beautiful handiwork to the local veterans. She also belonged to a card club, where she shared the art of card making and made beautiful cards for her family to forever cherish. Frances enjoyed many hobbies and interests during her life. She liked to do needlework and had done both crochet and knitting. She was an avid reader and kept up with current events. She was an outgoing person and in past years had been a member of the Red Hat Society in Sullivan, Missouri. Mowing her grass was a favorite pastime during the summer months. Along with being a homemaker, Mette and Bert ran the R.C.F. 1 Boarding Home for the elderly in Belle, Missouri for 15 years. She enjoyed taking care of the elderly as well as her family. Her other hobbies included crocheting and sewing. Mary Ellen Sanders Mary Ellen Sanders (nee Wilson) of Cuba, Missouri was born on Sunday, April 7, 1946 in House Springs, Missouri to Thomas Lester and Mary Elizabeth Kopf Wilson and passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 21 days. Mary Ellen married James Raymond Sanders on July 27, 1962 in Dittmer, Missouri and to this union two children were born. They moved to Cuba, Missouri from St. Charles, Missouri in 2003. She made a profession of faith as a young adult and was baptized at Dittmer Bible Church. Mary Ellen served faithfully as a pastor's wife and his secretary for more than 40 years. She recently was a member of the True Vine Baptist Church of Sullivan, Missouri and loved teaching teenagers in Sunday School. Her hobbies were traveling, camping and taking care of her pets. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Wilson; brother, Floyd Wilson and brother-in-law, Melvin Eftink. Ray Setzer Jr. Ray Setzer Jr. was born June 29, 1923, in St. Louis, Missouri to Ray Otto Setzer and Gladys Opal Skaggs Setzer. 91, passed away on November 6, 2014 at the age of 91 years. After the death of his mother in 1930, he spent most of his childhood with his uncle and aunt, Garland and Alma Skaggs in Crawford County, Missouri. Ray married Melba Madge Miller on April 18, 1942, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and they had eight children. Ray was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the U.S.S. LST491. He received two service ribbons and a bronze star for his service in the South Pacific. After his discharge from the Navy, Ray lived and worked in St. Louis, Missouri, but for most of his life, he was a timber man and sawmill owner in Missouri and Arkansas. After the Mississippi River flood of 1973 destroyed their home in Annada, Missouri, the Setzers moved to Hawk Point, Missouri. In 1984, Ray and Melba relocated to California where he was employed as a welder and fabricator. Three days before Ray's 81st birthday, he retired and later he and his wife moved to Oregon. Ray and Melba enjoyed traveling, visiting 49 states, Mexico and Canada. He enjoyed his cats, playing cards and watching television game shows. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Gladys Setzer; stepmothers, Mabel Brakefield Setzer and Freida Stotler Setzer; sisters, Alvina Penning and Doris Andrews; brother, Charles Setzer; his special uncle and aunt, Garland and Alma Skaggs; and grandson, Christopher Ettinger. Dorothy Ann Zelch Dorothy Ann Zelch of Owensville, Missouri was born in St. Louis on September 28, 1941 to Joseph and Mildred (Ehlers) Engler and passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the age of 73 years. On August 13, 1960 in Affton she was united in marriage to Charles R. Zelch. She and her husband owned and operated the "Ozark Playgrounds" dance hall for many years. She had worked at Owensville Bowl and was a bookkeeper in St. Louis, Missouri, before she retired. She was a member of the Owensville Lion's Club, a member of the St. Louis Polka Club and traveled with Legends Bank. She loved to play bingo, dance, attend Cardinals baseball games and feed the birds. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mildred Engler; parents-in-law, Charles P. and Lillian Zelch; husband, Charles R. Zelch; and sister-in-law, Sharon Jean Zelch.
