MO Local Obituaries for the Week of March 7, 2002 Margarett Marvene Hewkin Margarett Marvene Hewkin nee Statham was born Saturday, April 17, 1915, at Cape Girardeau, Mo., a daughter of the late Newton S. Statham and Margarett A. (Robinson) Statham. She entered eternal rest Monday, February 25, 2002, at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Mo., at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 8 days. On February 5, 1938, at Caledonia, Mo., Marvene was united in marriage to Albert Hewkin, son of the late William Joseph and Cora (Andrews) Hewkin. One son and two daughters were born to this union. They enjoyed over sixty-three years together, before his death, June 3, 2001. In addition to her parents and Albert, three brothers preceded her in death, Harlen; Norman and William Statham and three sisters, Genieve Coates, Mariam Bryce and Enid Statham and son-in-law, W. C. Hampton preceded her in death. Also preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred, Clifford and Opal, Silas and Clella, Walter and Evie, Arthur and Della Hewkin, Minnie and Herman Heithaus and Pearl Coffman. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are two daughters, Celeste Hampton of Cherryville, Mo. and Gail Pittman and husband Benny of O'Fallon, Mo.; one son, Wayne Hewkin and wife Kathleen of St. Peters, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Ida Hewkin of Davisville, Mo. Ten grandchildren, Steven Hampton and wife Sharon, Vicky and husband Bobby Martin, Wendy Hampton, Scott Hampton and wife Becky, Dennis Pittman and wife Kim, David Pittman and wife Dawn, Lisa Kaufmann and husband Gary, Lori Hewkin, Susan Darling and husband Floyd and Kristofer Hewkin. Fourteen great-grandchildren, Floyd Darling IV, Haley Hewkin, Christopher Reddick, Austin Pittman, Jacob Kaufmann, Amanda Kaufmann, Nicholas Kaufmann, Kendall Monroe, Anthony Hampton, Jamie Kamler, Alicia Chepley and husband Doug, Cody Martin, Alexa Hampton and Kayla Hampton; three great-great-grandchildren, Dalton Hampton, Cheyanne and Krysti Hampton; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Margarett Marvene Hewkin lay in state 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2002 in the Britton Chapel with Rev. James Chilton officiating. Musical selections were provided by Bob and Carol Coleman. Committal prayers and interment was in Turnbough Cemetery, Davisville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Scott Hampton, Steve Hampton, Kris Hewkin, Bobby Martin, David Pittman and Dennis Pittman. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Dorothy Lucille Stough Dorothy Lucille Stough nee Achurch was born Thursday, February 15, 1917, at Steelville, Mo., a daughter of the late Charles Robert Achurch and Estora C. (Sites) Achurch. She departed this life Monday, February 25, 2002, in the Lake of the Ozark Hospital, Lake Ozark, Mo., at the age of 85 years and 10 days. On May 19, 1949, Dorothy was united in marriage to William "Bill" Joel Stough. They enjoyed forty years together, before his death August 5, 1989. Bill was in the United States Air Force for twelve years. Dorothy owned and operated several businesses in> ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Transfer interrupted! Oil Company for several years and Modern Beauty Salon. Among those who remain to mourn her death are her devoted sister, Helen and husband Roy "Sonny" Harman of Camdenton, Mo.; one brother, Harold Wilber Achurch and wife Elizabeth of St. Louis, Mo. Four nephews, Jack Wilson Achurch of St. Peters, Mo., James Achurch of Bridgeton, Mo., Robert Lee Harman and wife Barbara of Blue Springs, Mo., Alan Ray Harman of Camdenton, Mo. One niece, Patricia Elaine Bland and husband Dale of Linn Creek, Mo.; cousins, other relatives and friends. Graveside services were held 1 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2002, at the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Dale Bland, Pete Bouse, Tom Bouse, Allan Harman, Robert Harman and Ken Pratt. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Howard and Mary Wissman Long time Bourbon residents, Howard and Mary Wissman, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2002 as the result of a traffic accident due to weather. Howard was well known throughout the area as a carpenter and cabinet maker, and since retirement, both Howard and Mary were extensively involved in building Kingdom Halls of Jehovah's Witnesses all over Missouri. They were returning home from a Kingdom Hall building project in Winona, Mo. when the accident occurred. A local memorial service will be held at the Sullivan Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8. All of their friends and acquaintances are invited to pay their respects. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winona Mo. Kingdom Hall Building Fund, via the Sullivan Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Howard Neil Wissman Howard Neil Wissman was born in St. Louis, Mo. February 7, 1929, the son of Walter H. and Alice E. Wissman, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth R. Wissman. On October 15, 1949 Howard was united in marriage to Mary Katherine Sheets. Mr. Wissman was raised in St. Louis and lived in Kirkwood after his marriage. They moved to Bourbon in 1973. Mr. Wissman was a carpenter and cabinet maker, an Elder in Sullivan Mo. Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. In retirement he was active in building of Kingdom Halls of Jehovah's Witnesses throughout Missouri. Surviving are his sons, Timothy N. and wife Aimee and Daniel R., and wife Denise; brother, Walter R. and wife June of New Mexico, sister, Alice M. Sollman of Illinois; his grandchildren, Zachary R., Baruch N., Nathaniel R. and Baylee R., nieces and nephews, Susie Miller, David Stiff, Stephen Stiff and wife Kathy of Illinois. Mary Katherine Sheets Wissman Mary Katherine Sheets Wissman was born July 6, 1927 in East Alton, Illinois, the daughter of Harvey R. and Lona I. (Porter) She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Vernon Sheets. Mrs. Wissman was raised in Wood River, Illinois, and after her marriage to Howard on October 15, 1949, they resided in Kirkwood, Mo. until moving in 1973 to Bourbon, Mo. She was a member of Sullivan Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
