Carwile Vesta Gertrude Carwile nee Fredrickson of West Plains, Missouri, formerly of Cuba, Missouri, was born on Friday, February 28, 1919 in Jakes Prairie, Missouri to Albert Fredrickson and Lora Ellen Ferris Fredrickson. She passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the age of 89 years and four days. Vesta was one of 12 children and graduated from a one-room school house after completing 12 grades. She then attended a beauty school in Springfield, Missouri achieving her beauty license and operating a shop in St. Louis for a few years. She married Beryl Charles Carwile on August 11, 1946 in Cuba, Missouri and to this union two daughters were born. She was a caregiver to her husband after he became paralyzed in 1967. She worked at a shoe factory in Owensville, Missouri then later at the Cuba Shoe Factory where she retired from in 1984. She was a former member of the Cuba First Baptist Church serving as a children’s Sunday School teacher. Her hobbies were sewing and quilting. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Andrew, Ralph, Otto, Leroy and Lloyd Frederickson; sisters, Violet Hansell, Murl Wright and Pearl Berman. She is survived by daughters, Linda B. Hagler of West Plains, Missouri and Karen Vesta Knight and husband Jack of Springfield, Missouri; sister Edith and husband Rev. Charles Jerry Cassidy Charles Jerry Cassidy of Steelville, Missouri, was born August 27, 1922 at Keysville, Missouri to Charles Logan Cassidy and Augusta Catherine (Parrett) Cassidy. He passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 85 years. He was married to Betta (Cummings) and to this union seven children were born. Charles was in the U.S. Army and served in WWII from 1943 to 1945 where he was stationed in Italy and North Africa. He spent most of his life farming. He loved to plant flowers, fruit trees and planning a garden, which would be this time of year. He looked forward to the new seed catalogs arriving in the mail and making his list. Watching the birds was another pastime that he enjoyed. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother in-law, Ray Brumley. Special music of “Amazing Grace” was sang and played by Rev. Jerry Beers. A son-in-law, Dave Rickard spoke of fond memories of his father-in-law. Other special music of “Go Rest High On That Mountain” concluded the service. Casket bearers were Scott Cassidy, Nathan Cassidy, Michael King, Tyler Monda, Steven Harmon and Roger Achurch. Jeffery Clayton DeLuca Jeffery Clayton DeLuca was born January 15, 1959, and passed away on February 27, 2008, at the age of 49 years, 1 month, 12 days, in St. James, Missouri. He was a lifelong resident of St. James, Missouri. He was known for his great sense of humor and his love for life. His greatest passion was making people laugh at any cost. Jeff has suffered greatly from severe lung disease, lymphoma, and heart failure. He has spent the last year promoting non-smoking. He was preceded in death by his father, David L. Bradie was a beautiful little girl who touched the heart of everyone who ever met her. She had a head full of hair that all admired and a smile that could light up the world. Ronald Meyers Ronald Meyers, Warrenton, Missouri, formerly of St. Charles, Missouri, was born March 16, 1946 in St. Charles, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the age of 61 years. He was the son of William F. Meyers and Helen E. Meyers. He married Lynn Meyers April 17, 1999 in Wright City, Missouri. He was a truck driver at Schafer Meyer Seed and Sod Co. in St. Charles, Missouri for 15 years, then retired. He served in the Army during the Vietnam era from 1969 to 1971. He was preceded in death by his parents. James was united in marriage to Diane Comstock on August 23, 1958 at Lone Dell, Missouri and to this union six children were born. He retired in 1997 after nearly 45 years as a maintenance man. He worked for International for many years and ended his career at Richwood School District were he was the maintenance man, bus driver, custodian, mechanic and all around good guy. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but as the years past he began to enjoy gardening. He had a green thumb, everything he planted grew beautifully. He also enjoyed spending the day going to flea markets, yard sales, auctions, watching Dave Murray (the weatherman), old western movies and the Price is Right at 11 a.m. each day. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Quentin Moore; one sister, Wanita Clemens and other family and friends. Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. “Skip” Delano Eugene Pounds “Skip” Delano Eugene Pounds, 66, of Steelville, Missouri, was born February 2, 1942 to George Hannon and Ada Mae (Payne) Pounds and passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. On August 6, 1989, he was united in marriage to Metta (Gram) Pounds. Skip was a barber and had his own barbershop for many years in Steelville, Missouri. He enjoyed working with children and for over 15 years, Skip and his wife Metta owned a Children’s Day Care Center. He served the City of Steelville for a number of years as Alderman for Ward I and Ward II. He was the Scout Master for the local boy scouts for more than 20 years and was a charter member of the St. Louis Chapter. He was recognized for all of his 20+ years as the Scoreboard Keeper for the Steelville High School games. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting arrowheads and working with genealogy. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steelvilleand was saved and baptized at a young age. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 18 years; two sons from a previous marriage, Michael Pounds and wife Melanie of Steelville, Missouri and Mark Pounds and wife Chen Min of Rolla, Missouri; one brother George Wayne Pounds and wife Marsha of Steelville, Missouri; four grandchildren, Austin, Zachary, Kaitlyn and Jared Pounds, all of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Rook of Cuba, Missouri was born October 6, 1929 in Cuba, Missouri to the union of William F. and Josephine B. (Shoults) Rook and passed away Friday, March 7, 2008 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 1 day. Aaron retired after many years of service from Cuba Marble & Granite and as a Caretaker of Kinder Cemetery. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post #7147, member of American Legion Post, Cuba Volunteer Fire Dept. (1953-1982) and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a collector of many things and was best known to help others in their time of need. He enjoyed the outdoors, a good cup of coffee, his pets Jake, Skooter, Sparky and Sammy. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond, John and Bill Rook, Jr.; two sisters, Gladys Copeland and Mable Krause; one step grandson, John Aaron Hubert. Lorene Wheeler was born on January 8, 1916 to Coleman and Ethel Wilburn Gray in Morehouse, Missouri. She passed away on February 27, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Owensville, Missouri at the age of 92 years. She married John Wheeler on March 9, 1935. During their life together, Lorene was a farm wife who excelled at gardening, sewing, and helping her husband farm on the Big Island and in the Woodhull area. He passed away on January 21, 1966. In 1978, Lorene moved to Milan. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Opal Wheeler; son, Jerry Wheeler; grandson, Richard Sheppard; daughter-in-law, Dawn Wheeler; two brothers; two sisters and her parents. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Sheppard, Milan, Illinois and Sharon and Delbert Turnbough of Owensville, Missouri; son, John Wheeler of San Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; three step great great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. He married Annita J. White on August 7, 1965, in West Palm Beach, Florida. He enjoyed bluegrass music, picking the banjo, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family. He was a corrections officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections for 10 years until his retirement on September 30, 2000. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman White and Homer White; and four sisters, Lois Mobley, Geneva Brannen, Shirley Payne, and Helen White.
