Edna M. Croxen
Edna M. Croxen nee Faust was born Sunday, May 29, 1910, in Edwardsville,
Illinois, a daughter of the late John Faust and Edna Mirandia (Somerlad)
Faust. She entered eternal rest Sunday, March 2, 2003, at the Phelps County
Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Mo., at the age of 92 years, 9 months and 3
days.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands,
Evans Porter and Ed Croxen; two sisters, Connie Carr and Norma Lovrett and
one brother Clinton Faust.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are two brothers-in-law, John
Carr of Steelville, Mo. and Ivar Lovret of San Diego, California; two
nephews, four nieces, other relatives and friends.
Edna M. Croxen lay in state 6-9 Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at the Britton
Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 10 a.m.
Wednesday, March 5, 2003 in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Dale Starr
officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Pleasant Point Cemetery,
Steelville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were John Carr, Tom Carr, Homer
Perkins, Dick Rogers, John Rogers and Don Smith.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Jacob "Scoby" Ferguson
Jacob Oscar Ferguson, Jr., of Cuba, Mo. was born on January 8, 1941 in
Mineral Point, Mo. and passed away on February 24, 2003 at the age of 62
years, 1 month and 16 days.
Beloved husband of Mildred Nadine Ferguson for 42 years; loving father of
Jackie Ferguson Spanglo, Joseph Ferguson, Lorri Ferguson Kerley, Charles
Ferguson, Jacob A. Travis, and Megan Lea Travis; dear grandfather of
Bradley, Stephanie, Melinda, Tessea and Danika Ferguson, Krista and
Jonathon Kerley; our dear brother, father-in-law, uncle, cousin, and
friend.
Jacob will be remembered for his strong will, great sense of humor,
intelligence, and love and devotion to his family and friends.
No funeral services were held per Jacob's request.
All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Mo.
Violet Marie Hansell
Violet Marie Hansell from Poway, California was born on Friday, September
10, 1915 at Jakes Prairie, Mo. to George Albert Frederickson and Lora Ellen
Ferris Frederickson. She passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at the age
of 87 years, 5 months and 19 days.
Violet graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Washington University, St.
Louis in 1964. She had begun her teaching career in the one-room
schoolhouse in Jakes Prairie. She retired from the Ferguson/Florissant
School District after teaching for 30 years. Violet was married to Robert
Hansell on February 6, 1945 in St. Louis, Mo. and to this union two
daughters were born. Violet was a member of the DAR and Eastern Star. She
also was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Poway, California.
Those who preceded her in death were her husband Robert; parents, five
brothers Andrew, Ralph, Otto, Leroy and Lloyd Frederickson; and twin
sisters Murl Wright and Pearl Berman.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her two daughters, Ellen Magnuson
and husband Chuck of San Jacinto, California, and Phyllis Wilson and
husband Robert of Poway, California; two brothers, George Frederickson and
wife Loretta of Houston, Texas, and Kenneth Frederickson of Springfield,
Mo.; two sisters, Vesta Carwile of Derby, Kansas and Edith Crum and husband
Cellis of Vienna, Mo.; five grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces,
nephews, cousins, many relatives and friends.
Visitation was 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Hutson
Funeral Home, Cuba, Mo.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Hutson
Funeral Chapel, Cuba, Mo. with Bro. Cellis Crum officiating. Memorial
services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2003 at First Baptist
Church, Poway, California.
Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. with pallbearers Mark Driscoll,
Brandon Wilson, Gregory Wilson, Ed Hansell, Edwin Frederickson, Clarence
Frederickson, and Dr. Bob Frederickson.
All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Mo.
Clifford Charles Lewis
Clifford Charles Lewis of Cuba, Mo. was born September 23, 1930 in
Sarasota, Florida to the union of Joseph Peter and Verda (Thomas) Lewis and
passed away on March 5, 2003 at his home in Cuba, Mo. at the age of 72
years, 5 months and 12 days.
In 1945 Clifford enlisted in the Army of the United States of America. He
served with the Army 76th Construction Engineer Battalion in Korea until he
was honorably discharged in 1952.
On September 10, 1955 Clifford was united in marriage to Clara Jane Veltrop
at St. Peters Cathedral in Jefferson City, Mo. They enjoyed over 47 years
together. Three sons, Clifford Charles, Jr., David and Thomas; and two
daughters, Joyce and Laura were born to this union.
He retired from General Motors in 1989 and moved to Cuba. He was also a
member of the Cuba VFW.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, J. P. Lewis,
three sisters, Daisy Marshall, Marylee McDonald and Freda Wemmer, and three
infant siblings.
Those who remain to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife,
C. Jane Lewis of the home in Cuba, Mo., five children and their spouses,
Clifford Carl, Jr. and wife Sherry Lewis, and Joyce Lewis of Cuba, Mo.,
David and Tammy Lewis, Laura and Ron Buehrle, and Thomas and Adele Lewis,
all of St. Charles County, Mo.
Four sisters, Frances Manick, Jean Ouzts, Nona Bembry and Dorothy Moulton
all of Florida, eleven grandchildren, Clifford Charles III, Dahlia,
Brandon, Chad, Gregory and Alix Lewis, Megan and Kyle Cissell, Brian,
Matthew and Andrew Buehrle, and three great-grandchildren, Gabriel,
Clifford Charles IV and Christian Lewis, other relatives and many friends.
Clifford was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
brother, uncle and friend and will be sadly missed.
Memorial services were held at the Britton Chapel in Cuba, Mo. on Saturday,
March 8, 2003 at 4 p.m. with Pastor Jack Shepherd officiating. All
arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home in Cuba,
Mo.
Ruth A. Nichols Patterson
Ruth A. Nichols Patterson (nee Miller) was born August 24, 1918, in Cuba,
Mo. to the late John and Mary (nee Burleson) Miller, and passed away on
March 4, 2003 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. after a struggle with Parkinson's
disease.
Ruth was a devoted person who always lit every one's needs first. She
always reached out and touched someone with her humor and generosity.
She was the beloved wife of the late Earl (Shorty) Nichols and the late
Buck Patterson; dearest mother and mother-in-law of John Earl (Doris)
Nichols and Barbara Nichols Haynes; beloved grandmother of Victoria (Andy)
Ernst, Mark (Cindy) Zink, Kathleen (Sam) Huffmaster, Matthew Zink, and
Kelleen (Steve) Swann; beloved great-grandmother of sixteen and beloved
great-great-grandmother of four; dear sister and sister-in-law of Paul
(Helen) Miller, Myrtle (late Al) Johnston, Fern (late Jack) Liebel, Shirley
and Bonnie June Miller and the late Floyd, Clarence, Robert and Fred
Miller; sister-in-law of Gladys Miller; dearest aunt, great aunt, cousin
and friend of many. Ruth will be dearly missed but will remain in our
hearts forever.
Ruth A. Patterson nee Miller was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 1
p.m. Interment was in the Hodge-Enloe Cemetery, Bourbon, Mo. All
arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,

Nellie Grace Smith
Nellie Grace Smith nee Woloszyn was born Thursday, October 15, 1925,
daughter of the late George Woloszyn and the late Sophia (Popytaj)
Woloszyn. She entered eternal life Monday, March 3, 2003, at her home in
Steelville, Mo., at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 18 days.
On October 11, 1952 in St. Louis, Mo., Nellie was united in marriage to
Himmie Leroy Smith, son of John M. Smith and Nettie (Barber) Smith. They
enjoyed 36 years together before his death, June 5, 1987. Also preceding
her in death were brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Ernest Smith, Grady
and May Smith, Harvey Smith, Luther Smith, John and Agnes Smith, Marvin and
Ida Smith, Dale Garrett, and Cora Kayser.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her two step-daughters;
Francis Mohedano of El Paso, Texas and Patricia Hill of Prescott, Arkansas;
two sisters-in-law, Ella Smith of Bridgeton, Mo. and Annie Smith of
Wittman, Arizona; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many
friends.
Funeral Mass and memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March
8, 2003, at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Steelville, Mo. with
Father James Finder officiating.
Interment was at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Brothers Funeral
Home, Steelville, Mo.
Mabel Irene Walker Greenstreet Weldon
Mabel Irene Walker Greenstreet Weldon, daughter of the late Christopher
Greenith Teatsworth "Green" Walker and Della Byler Ginn Walker, was born on
February 20, 1917 in Lunenburg, Arkansas. She departed this life on March
5, 2003 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 86 years and 13 days.
Mabel was united in marriage to Thomas Clayton Greenstreet, Jr. and to this
union, six children were born.
Mabel's second marriage was to Eugene Weldon. They lived in Waynesville,
Mo. until Gene's death.
Most of her life Mabel was a homemaker and worked on the farm. When she
lived in Waynesville, she worked as a clerk at the local drug store and
later worked for the Post Exchange at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
Mabel leaves to mourn her passing, three daughters, June Carmack of
Waynesville, Mo., Helen Slavik of Wichita, Kansas and Virginia Decker of
Melbourne; two sons, Thomas Clayton Greenstreet, III of Melbourne and Owen
Ralph Greenstreet of Cuba, Mo.; one sister, Sybil Harvelle of Melbourne.
Six grandchildren, Joyce Maxwell, Cathy Hodgett, Tammy Roberts, Terri
Hatfield, Barbara Sue Greenstreet, and Kirk Slavik; six step-grandchildren,
Linda Rose, Veronica Johnson, Phyllis Minor, Dwayne Decker and Rita Stayan;
six great grandchildren; eleven step great grandchildren; one great great
grandchild and two step great great grandchildren and a host of other
relatives and many good friends.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one daughter,
Blanche Ellen Greenstreet; one sister, Pearl Johnson; four half-sisters,
Nora Ginn Lewis, Oral Ginn Andrews, Ollie Walker, Gus Walker; three half
brothers, Bascom Ray Walker, Christopher Walker and Worth Walker; one
grandson, Thomas Clayton Greenstreet, IV, "Bubba"; one great-grandson
Michael Hodgett, Jr. and one son-in-law, Chris Decker.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 7, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Roman
& Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Doyne Robertson
officiating. Burial was Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Deer Lick
Cemetery in Waynesville, Mo. Visitation was held Thursday, March 6 from 6-8
p.m.
Pallbearers were Grady Harvelle, Kenneth Harvelle, Wayne Harvelle, John
Hatfield, Frank Roberts and Clinton Hawkins.
Flossie Golden Welker
Flossie Golden Welker of Potosi passed away on March 3, 2003 at her home
having reached the age of 88 years, 5 months and 18 days. She was born on
September 13, 1914 at Palmer, Mo. to the late Horace Abraham White and
Martha Jane (Wilson) White.
Flossie was united in marriage to Mr. Steve Welker on March 4, 1931 at
Belgrade and to this union four children were born. Flossie was a homemaker
and shared over 70 years of marriage with Steve.
Those who preceded her in death were her parents, Horace and Martha White;
her brothers, Guylet, Russell, Clyde, Mont and Bates White; her sisters,
Grace, Ora, Blanche, Nettie, Alth, Mint and Edith. Her granddaughter, Lisa
Dawn Welker. Her grandson, Larry Dale Welker and her son-in-law, Marvin
Yount.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing from this life are her loving
and devoted husband, Steve Welker of Potosi; her three sons, Carl Welker
and wife Verna May of Steelville; Dale Welker and wife Bonnie of Potosi and
Max Welker and wife Fern of West Plains. Her daughter, Mae Bell Yount of
Cedar Hill. Her 23 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and six
great-great-grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by nieces,
nephews, cousins, other family members and many dear friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2003 in the
Britton Chapel, Potosi, with Rev. Wendell Nipper and Rev. Ardell Gray
officiating. Those serving as pallbearers were Steve Yount, Paul Yount,
Rick Welker, Gary Welker, Stanley Welker and Jeremy Welker.
Interment was in the Lost Creek Cemetery under the direction of the Britton
Funeral Home of Potosi.
