MO Local Obituaries for the Week of Mar, 14, 2002 Charles Edward Alvey Charles Edward Alvey of Steelville, Mo., was born Friday, December 5, 1958, at Cuba, Mo., a son of Lucy Melvinia Alvey (nee Firestine) and the late Benjamine (Bennie) Woodrow Alvey. He entered eternal rest Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Mo., at the age of 43 years, 3 months and 2 days. His father, Bennie Alvey, preceded him in death, April 30, 1987. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted mother, Lucy Alvey of Cherryville, Mo.; one daughter, Merissa Alvey of Steelville, Mo.; one sister, Loretta and husband Vick Troutt of St. James, Mo. Five brothers, James Franklin Alvey of Cherryville, Mo., Bobby Dale Alvey and wife Cheryl of Bourbon, Mo., Billy Ray Alvey, Sr. and wife Iona of Cuba, Mo., Chester Glenn Alvey and wife Ladonna of Cherryville, Mo. and Lester Andrew Alvey of Cuba, Mo. Nieces and nephews, Amanda Skaggs, Casie Alvey, Annie Barnett, Billy Alvey, Jr., Peggy Alvey, Holden Alvey, Bennie Alvey, Melissa Butts, Andrew Alvey, Jr., Brandon Alvey, Laura Turner and Preston Turner; other relatives and many friends. Charles Edward Alvey lay in state 4-9 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2002 at the Briton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2002 in the Britton Chapel with Rick Huggins and Gene Kimker officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in First Baptist Cemetery, Cherryville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were James Alvey, Bobby Dale Alvey, Billy Ray Alvey, Sr., Chester Glenn Alvey, Lester Andrew Alvey, Sr. and Vick Edward Troutt. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. John T. Hulsey John T. Hulsey of Bourbon, Mo. passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2002 at the age of 84 years. Mr. Hulsey was born on March 19, 1917, in Washington County, Mo., at what was known as the town of Hulsey. He was one of eight children born to Joseph A. and Estella (Romine) Hulsey and was a lifelong resident of the Sullivan and Bourbon areas. He worked in the C.C. Camp during WWII and was honorably discharged from his labors in June of 1940. John was united in marriage on October 12, 1940 to Eva G. Halmich at Steelville, Mo. and to this union three children were born. John's vocation in life was that of a master craftsman and carpenter in the building trades. He was a farmer and worked in the shoe factory, Chevrolet plant in St. Louis, small arms plant, and Wagner Electric, self-employed for many years, working with his brothers and building many homes and business structures in the area. John was also a millwright and welder. He was an instructor in the building trades program at Bourbon High School. He not only set the program up there, but was instrumental in starting the building trades program at Sullivan High School as well. He served 34 years on the R-16 Strain-Japan School Board, was a member of the Crawford County Republican Committee, and Crow Cemetery Board. Along with his many memberships and activities, John was also a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon. He is survived by his wife Eva, of the family home; two sons, Dr. Johnny Leroy Hulsey and wife, Velma, of Fairbanks, Alaska and Dennis Elroy Hulsey and wife, Krystal, of Rosebud; one daughter, Sharon Kay Fann and husband, Ron, of Bourbon; one brother, Roscoe Hulsey and wife, Ruth, of Sullivan; one sister, Hester Reynolds of Bakersfield, California; seven grandchildren, Craig Andrew Hulsey, John Paul Pinnell, Margie Ann Pinnell, Keva Marie Hulsey, Thomas Phillip Hulsey, Jeanne Marie Walsh, and James William Davis; three great-grandchildren, Madison Marie Walsh, Kori Renee Rodgers, and Jessi Colter Rodgers; nieces, nephews; brothers-in-law, Clifford and Darwin Halmich; sisters-in-law, Ruth Hulsey, Louise Hulsey, Edith Halmich, and Frances Halmich; other relatives and friends. Preceding Mr. Hulsey in death were his parents; four brothers, Theodore, Clarence, Elasco, and brother Vernin between the age of one and two; one sister, Zaddie Thurmond; and a son-in-law, Bill Davis. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2002 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Connie Gallagher officiating. The eulogy was given by his son, Dr. Leroy Hulsey. Two songs, "One Day at a Time," and "Wings of a Dove," were sung by Krystal Hulsey and her daughter, Keva Hulsey. Music accompaniment was provided by Mrs. Jeanne Carr. The pallbearers were: Bryce Hulsey, Bob Hulsey, Leroy Hulsey, Dennis Hulsey, Ronald Fann, Tommy Hulsey, James Hulsey, and John Paul Pinnell. Interment was in Crow Cemetery. Lunch was served at the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon under the care of the Ladies Aid. The family desires memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon. Ecy Nancy Mullen Ecy Nancy Mullen nee Oliver of Bourbon, Mo. was born on April 16, 1911 at Leasburg, Mo. to the union of Louis Oliver and Mary Jane Ray Oliver and passed away on March 3, 2002 at Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 17 days. On October 17, 1934 Ecy and Roy Mullen rode horses to Steelville, Mo. and were united in marriage there. They had been happily married for 67 years. Ecy was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Tessie Eaton. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Leasburg, Mo. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her devoted husband Roy Mullen; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Ecy was a devoted wife, loving aunt, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Ecy Nancy Mullen nee Oliver was in state at the Eaton Funeral Home, Bourbon, Mo. on Monday, March 4, 2002. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eaton Chapel, Bourbon, Mo. with Rev. Tony Amato officiating. Interment was in the Crossroads Cemetery, Leasburg, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
