Joan was united in marriage to Charles Gray Ariola on September 19, 1952 in High Ridge, Missouri and to this union six children were born. Joan accepted the Lord at an early age and attended a Lutheran church. She was a former Girl Scout and enjoyed crocheting, reading, Bingo, TV and puzzles. She loved spending time with her her dog, Minnie. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mable Pollock; husband, Charles Gray Ariola, Sr.; infant daughter, Dianna Lynn Ariola; brother, William Harold Pollock, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Monte Zuma Ariola, Jr., Monte Raye Ariola, Jack (June) Ariola and Joseph Elmer (Dorothy) Ariola; sister-in-law, Juanita Joy Madrid. Vernon Eugene Barber Vernon Eugene Barber of Steelville, Missouri was born on Saturday, March 9, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the age of 86 years and 2 days. Vernon served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Ina M. Richardson on October 21, 1961 in Belleville, Illinois. They made their life together in St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked for Southwestern Bell until retirement. After retirement, they moved to Blue Eye, Missouri and later to Cuba, Missouri where they lived until she passed away on March 21, 2005. He married Maxine Clay Halbert on August 18, 2007 at Faith Chapel in Cuba, Missouri. Vernon accepted the Lord late in life and was a member of Faith Chapel in Cuba, Missouri. He liked St. Louis Cardinal baseball, Rams football, playing golf, fishing and traveling. He enjoyed church, being home with his wife, Maxine, and hanging out and swapping stories with the boys. Frank "Ed" Cunningham Frank "Ed" Cunningham was born on Wednesday, July 10, 1946 in Cuba, Missouri to Jackson Harvey and Anna Susan Caulley Cunningham and passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the age of 68 years and 8 months. As a child, Frank attended a one-room schoolhouse, Oak Shade School, outside of Cuba. He was the first in his family to attend college and even hitchhiked to and from classes at School of the Ozarks in Hollister, Missouri earning his Bachelors degree. He married Cathy L. Kohenskey on January 27, 1968 at the First Baptist Church, Cuba, Missouri and to this union two daughters were born. Frank was known for his famous motto, 'Buy high, sell low' and saying, 'Just peachy'. He was a lifelong member at First Baptist Church, Cuba and served in the past as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and adult choir member. He was a member of Gideons International. He worked for the Division of Family Services for 32 years before retiring and devoting much of his time to selling real estate. His hobbies were watching westerns on television, trout fishing and playing with his grand baby. Jenny was known for her cooking, especially her fudge and biscuits and always cooked her family's birthday dinner. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday with her large family, and she loved to prepare everyone's favorite homemade dishes. She also enjoyed reading and shopping at Walmart. Larry began working as an auto mechanic soon after graduation and continued to master the trade for 47 years. He served as a paramedic for the North Crawford Ambulance District for 15 years, as well as Leasburg's Fire Chief for a period of time. An avid hunter and fisherman, Larry could always be found sitting in silence waiting on a whitetail, reeling in the catfish on the Missouri and Mississippi and snagging for spoonbill in Oklahoma. He enjoyed countless fish fries with good friends and family, where many stories and jokes would be told. Larry's passion for the outdoors can only be surpassed by his love and devotion for his wife Theresa. Whether hunting, fishing, camping or gardening, they stayed by each other's side, hand and hand. Walt Whitman describes it best as "We were together, I forget the rest." He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Edmond Miller. Jack married Carol Alice Prince on July 9, 1965 in New London, Connecticut. Jack retired after 22 years of honorable service as a Chief Petty Officer-Torpedoman's Mate for the U.S. Navy. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #7147, Colorado Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and Scottish Rite. He was past chairman of Colorado City Metro District, member of Huerfano Lodge No. 27 A.F. and A.M. (CO), served on Admiral's staff, N.C.O. Bd., Recreation Committee and Special Services, Associate member #1 Trinidad Eastern Star and on the Association Board of Indian Hills. He enjoyed living at Indian Hills, fishing, being on his boat and researching genealogy on the computer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Loma Price; one sister, Shirley Moore; three brothers-in-law, Carl, Doyle and John Lee Prince. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol A. Price of Cuba, Missouri; one step-son, Billy and wife Becky Ruffian of Orange Park, Florida; two step-grandchildren, Clinton and Rebecca Ruffian of Orange Park, Florida; two brothers-in-law, Charles and wife Rose Marie Prince of Delta, Colorado, Glenn and wife Sue Prince of Leasburg, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Barbara and husband Al Fenn of Ft. MO Local Obituaries for the Week of March 18, 2015 Gary Albert Stift Gary Albert Stift of Steelville, Missouri was born September 2, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri to Leicester Conrad and Doloris Constance Lauth Stift and passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at the age of 68 years. Gary had a master's degree in Animal Husbandry and was employed at the Farmers Home Administration as a farm loan advisor for several years. He was a very kind and gentle man who lived his life in peace. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leicester and Doloris Stift; one brother, Tary Lee Stift; and nephew, Jeremiah Thomas Gerard. Karen Lee Vaughn Karen Lee Vaughn, of Rolla, Missouri was born in Rolla, Missouri on February 27, 1942, to Edwin and Mabel (Olson) Burrell and passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the age of 73 years. Karen was first married to Gerald Lewis, who preceded her in death. She later married Matthew Kenneth "Kenny" Vaughn. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Mabel Burrell; husbands, Gerald Lewis and Matthew Vaughn; one son, Jerry Dwayne Lewis and one sister, Mary Jo E. Horn. Karen will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes two children, Ladonna Rinehart and husband Kevin of St. James, Missouri and Ronald Lewis and wife Gina of Rolla, Missouri; one brother, Rudy Burrell of Rolla, Missouri; sister, Darline Aaron of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, Megan Lewis, Melina Rinck, Adrienne Hancock and husband Dusty, and Chiara Wallis; three great grandchildren, Silas, Beau and Kellie Hancock; other relatives and friends.
