Clarence Edwards Jr. Clarence Edwards Jr. was born on May 30, 1924 in Thiel, Arkansas and passed away March 12, 2017 at the age of 92 years. He was a long-time resident of Bourbon, Missouri and spent his last 12 years in Sullivan, Missouri. Clarence was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon and a retiree from Pea Ridge Iron Ore Company. He was a proud World War II veteran, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member of the Order of Masonic Lodge for over 65 years. His devotion to faith, work, and duty were rivaled only by his devotion to friends and family; all of whom adored him in return. Clarence was known as the "Cat Man" to his oldest friends and "Jukie" to his siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. He was for many years a frequent sight at his grandchildren's athletic and school events; which he missed only when the fish were biting especially well. He was an avid gardener and fisherman. His ability to catch a limit of crappie on the worst days at the lake always impressed those camped alongside him. If you were ever offered a zucchini from a stranger at a local baseball game, chances are it was from him; though you likely never thought him a stranger again. During World War II, he served as a Private First Class with the 744th Light Tank Battalion in the European theater, landing at Omaha Beach on D+3 and eventually earning five bronze stars. His stories about the war were classic "Cat Man," revealing the bravery of a young man far from home with the adventurous sense of humor he formed through a lifetime of storytelling. He was a natural storyteller. One particularly memorable tale involved General George Patton and his division in such a rush to reach the Battle of the Bulge that he ordered his men to commandeer all of the fuel from Clarence's battalion, stranding them in the French countryside. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Sr. and Bertha Edwards; one son, Tony; and six brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife Ophelia, with whom he shared 71 years of marriage; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Raney Crider of Sullivan, Missouri; grandchildren, Ryan and Dustin and their wives Goldie and Erin; two great grandchildren, Chloe and Hudson; other relatives and friends.
