Fern Opal Albert
Fern Opal Albert of Steelville, Missouri was born January 31, 1940 in
Steelville, Missouri to Jona and Eva (Holland) Housewright. She passed away
Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla,
Missouri at the age of 68 years.
On April 29, 1961, she was united in marriage to Reinhold George Albert Jr.
who preceded her in death on January 11, 2004.
Fern had worked for many years as a clerk for the Crawford County Collectors
Office. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
She was very involved in the community for several years. She was the first
woman to be on the Steelville School Board and was past president. She was the
current chairperson of the Steelville Alumni School Association, a member of the
Board of Golden Echoes and had been named Volunteer of the Month and was tour
Coordinator for Diamond Tours Inc., a board member of the Meramec Music Theatre,
Board Member of the Steelville Homes Inc., President of the TOPS and Aim High
Extension Club and just recently had been named the Chamber of Commerce Citizen
of the Year for 2007.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Clifford
Housewright and infant brother Arthur Lee Housewright; one sister, Mary Ann
Hughes; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Neal Prentice, Al Sparks, Cy Dace,
Mildred and Bill Frey, George and Sophia Albert, Art and Virginia Albert, Mae
and Jack Pipkins, Dorothy and Don Gravatt and Elizabeth and Julius Diefenbach.
She is survived by one son, Scott Albert and wife Renee of Pacific, Missouri;
two daughters, Junette Helmering of Rolla, Missouri and Annette Fowler and
husband Brian of Wentzville, Missouri; one sister, Vivian Prentice of Rolla,
Missouri; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Alvina Housewright of Bourbon,
Missouri, Mary Sparks of Texas, Carol Dace of Sullivan, Missouri, Shirley
Williams and husband Hank of Cuba, Missouri, Joan Slade and husband Harold of
Davisville, Missouri, Bob Albert and wife Jo Ann of St. Peters, Missouri and
Carl Hughes of Piedmont, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Kristina, Jimmy, Taylor,
Emilie, Josh, Graham and Brilyn; two great grandchildren, Evan and Alora; other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Britton-
Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Slade and Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.
Special music of “Amazing Grace,” “My Heart Will Go On” and “Three Little Words”
were sang by granddaughter, Emilee Toole, with William Owen accompanying on
piano. Other special music of “To Where You Are” was played. Committal prayer
and burial were in the Meramec Hills Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri.
Casket bearers were Mark Slade, Mick Slade, Joe Housewright, Rick Branson, Josh
Toole and Brian Fowler.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in
Steelville, Missouri.
Rev. Ruth Diane Hogan
Rev. Ruth Diane Hogan was born February 23, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri to
Clyde Hanks and Margie (Plemmons) Hanks Pemberton. She passed away Monday,
March 17, 2008 at St. Johns Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri at the
age of 55 years.
On December 17, 1976 she was united in marriage to Richard Hogan in Steelville,
Missouri and to this union two children were born.
Ruth was well known as a minister of the Pentecostal faith. She worked as a
nurse in the community for a number of years.
She enjoyed fishing where she could have quietness with the Lord and loved
being a grandmother to her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of Steelville, Missouri; one son, Richard
Dewayne Hogan and wife Kristen of Steelville, Missouri; one daughter, Lisa
Diane Frisk and husband Josh of Houston, Texas; step-father, Don Pemberton
of Troy, Missouri; grandmother, Ann Hanks of Arnold, Missouri; one brother
Randy Hanks and wife Tanya of Council Bluff, Iowa; one sister, Tammy Miller
and husband Kurt of St. Louis, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Codey Frisk,
Skyler Frisk, Damon Frisk, Jessica Hogan, Kayle Hogan, Katelyn Hogan, Jordan
Hogan and Bradley Hogan; other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2008 at Sellers
Cemetery in Dillard, Missouri with the Rev. Joe Schonfield officiating. Special
music of “Meeting in the Air” and “I’ll See You in the Rapture” were sang by
Donna Schonfield.
Casket bearers were P.J. Sanders, Ronnie Stricklin, Scotty Stricklin, Kent
Dayton, Dan Adkins and Josh Frisk. Honorary bearers were Bradley Hogan, Jordan
Hogan, Damon Frisk and Codey Frisk.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of
Steelville, Missouri.
Charleen A. Misemer
Charleen A. Misemer of Sullivan, Missouri, was born February 10, 1932 to Charles
H. and Vera (Dresch) Lange at St. Louis, Missouri, and passed away Thursday,
February 14, 2008 at the age of 76 years.
Char as she was known by family and friends was married to John D. Misemer on
December 25, 1951.
She enjoyed helping her husband in the construction of their home and making
frequent trips to Branson. She also worked in stained glass and was a
fastidious housekeeper. She attended the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall
in Sullivan, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia Mattox and husband Joe of Bourbon,
Missouri; two grandchildren, Melissa Ducote and husband Seth of Bourbon,
Missouri and Ian Mattox and wife Tiffany of Winona, Missouri; two great
grandchildren, Gabe and Lily Ducote; one brother, David Lange and wife
Patricia; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 4 p.m. at the
Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Sullivan, Missouri.
Jeannine D. Ownby
Jeannine D. Ownby of Bourbon, Missouri, was born December 15, 1938 in Illinois
to Bert and Zella (Hager) Brown and passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the
age of 69 years.
On July 2, 1955, she married William Ownby in the state of Mississippi and
together they had seven children.
She was known as a very creative person. She enjoyed drawing, writing and making
various crafts inside and working in the flower garden outside.
She is survived by her husband; seven children, William Donald Ownby and wife
Doris of Beaufort, Missouri, Steven Scott Ownby and fiancée Paula of St. Louis,
Missouri, Douglas Wayne Ownby of Owensville, Missouri, Jeffrey V. Ownby and wife
Jen of Sullivan, Missouri, Christa Cox and husband Mike of Rolla, Missouri,
Sherry King and husband Matthew of Leslie, Missouri and Vicki Webb and husband
Jim of Steelville, Missouri; her father of Farmington, Missouri; brothers,
Terry (Marlene) Brown, Carrol (Judy) Brown and Clinton Brown; sisters, Bernice
Logan and Brenda (Jim) Sikes; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren;
other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008 in the
Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri with Michael Delashmit
officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
Bertha Venora Payne
Bertha Venora Payne of Steelville, Missouri was born February 24, 1917 at
Sligo, Missouri to Cornelius and Mary Alice (McWhorter) Payne. She passed
away Thursday, March 20, 2008 at her son’s home at the age of 91 years.
On March 21, 1934, she was united in marriage to Johnny William (J.W.) Payne
who preceded her in death on April 4, 1984.
Bertha was a member of the Center Point Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting,
sewing and loving the times she spent with all of her grandchildren and great-
grandchildren. She was a caring person who helped take care of her older sisters
in later years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters-in-law,
Pat Payne and Patty Payne; one son-in-law, Sidney Thomas Pearson II; four
brothers, Virgle Payne and wife Julia, Ernest Payne, Jewell Payne and wife
Genevea and Robert Payne; six sisters, Alma Jane Coleman and husband Andrew,
Addie Elizabeth Coleman and husband Clifford, Ada Mae Pounds and husband George,
Vergie Benton and husband Sweeney, Ruth Irene Brown and husband Clifford, and
Geraldine Payne.
She is survived by one son, Bill Payne and wife Sharon of Steelville, Missouri
and one daughter, Edna Mae Slape and husband Thomas of Cuba, Missouri; one
sister, Marie Waller and husband Casey Waller of St. Louis, Missouri; one
sister-in-law, Edna Payne of High Ridge, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jerry
Payne and wife Sue, Mary Locke and husband Brad, James Payne and wife Anita,
Brad Tinker, Bryan Tinker and wife Sara; nine great grandchildren; other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Britton-
Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with the Rev. Bud Sanders and
Rev. Paul Lathum officiating. Special music of “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem”
and “It Is Well With My Soul” were sang and played by the grandchildren. Leslie
Craig accompanied on piano. Other special music of “Going Home” was sang and
played by Rev. Paul Lathum. Music of “The Blessing” closed the service.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Steelville Cemetery in Steelville,
Missouri.
Casket bearers were Jerry Payne, Brad Tinker, Bryan Tinker, James Payne, April
Payne and Mary Locke.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in
Steelville, Missouri.
Harvey Petty
Harvey Petty was born January 16, 1928 in Salem, Missouri to Elija C. Petty
and Nora V. Parker and passed away March 19, 2008 in Wright City, Missouri
at the age of 80 years.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Jonesburg, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Myrtle Petty nee Fahr.
He is survived by daughters, Sandy (Darrell) Bollegar of Warrenton, Missouri
and Vickie (Dennis) Howell of Warrenton, Missouri; brother, James Petty of
Cuba, Missouri; sister, Dorothy Wurtz of St. Charles, Missouri and two
grandchildren.
Visitation was March 22, 2008 from 10 a.m.-noon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church,
Jonesburg, Missouri. Funeral service was March 22, 2008 at noon at St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church, Jonesburg, Missouri with Pastor Gary Ellul officiating with
private burial.
Marie Mary Rahe
Marie Mary Rahe of Steelville, Missouri was born on Valentine’s Day, 1912 in
Dexter, Missouri to Fred and Etta Mae (Robinson) Henderson. She passed away
Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri
at the age of 96 years.
She was united in marriage to William Rahe.
Marie was a beautician with her own shop for many years in Columbia, Illinois.
In 1976 after retirement, she had moved to Steelville, Missouri to be close to
her daughter, Betty. She had become active in the Happy Hour Extension Club
for several years and was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She was of the
Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Howard
Henderson, Fred Henderson, Martin Henderson and Shorty Henderson and two
sisters, Mildred Henderson and Pauline Pounds.
She is survived by her one son, Edward Terry of Diamond Head, Mississippi; one
daughter, Betty Vickers and special friend Bob Mohesky of Steelville, Missouri;
one sister, Myrtle Dodge of Dexter, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Alberta
Henderson of Dexter, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Terry Vickers and wife
Linda, Alan Vickers and wife Jeannie, Susan Dwyer and husband Dennis, Sharon
Simpson and husband Bob, Donna Marie Buckley and husband Johnny, Patty Jacobs
and husband Roy, Sherry Roberts and husband Sam and Mike Terry and wife Donna;
21 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; dear friend, Edith
Love; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers
officiating. Special music of “In the Garden”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing
Grace” were sang and played by Rev. Jerry Beers. Committal prayer and burial
were in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in St. Ann, Missouri.
Casket bearers were William Henninger IV, Shawn Vickers, Kevin Vickers, Bob
Ragan and Kevin Gillpatrick.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in
Steelville, Missouri.
Danny Thomas Raybrook
Danny Thomas Raybrook of Huntsville, Arkansas was born on January 30, 1954
to Louis and Bessie Raybrook in St. Louis, Missouri. He passed away Wednesday,
March 19, 2008 at North Western Medical Center, Springdale, Arkansas at the
age of 54 years, 1 month and 19 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harold Raybrook.
He is survived by one daughter, Rebecca L. Baker; two sons, Danny and Scott
Raybrook; three grandchildren, Cody, Matthew and Chloe of Duncan, Oklahoma; one
brother, Richard C. Raybrook and one sister, Barbara P. Garrison of Cuba,
Missouri; nieces and nephews, Mary Sims of Arnold, Missouri, Angel Drescher of
Viburnum, Missouri, Sherry Shouse of Leavenworth, Kansas, Jennifer Grapes of
House Springs, Missouri, Andy Raybrook of Arnold, Missouri, Don Raybrook of
Sullivan, Missouri; cousin, Johnny Parson of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives
and friends.
Services were held at North Webster Medical Center Chapel. Interment in
St. Louis, Missouri.
James Harold Wood
James “Jim” H. Wood of Cuba, Missouri was born Saturday, July 9, 1938 at
Portageville, Missouri to the union of Rayford and Margaret Loue Pearl
(nee Harrison) Wood and passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the age of
69 years, 8 months and 9 days.
Jim was united in marriage to Betty Jean Cissell on June 25, 1960 at St. Louis,
Missouri and to this union two children were born. He graduated Central High
School, located in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1956 in the top 10 percent of his
class. He was a barber for 10 years at Pine Lawn, Missouri before he moved to
Cuba, Missouri where he owned and operated Jim’s Barber Shop on Smith Street.
He retired in 1995 after 30 plus years as a barber to become partners with his
son, Jamie, in Uptown Auto Sales of Cuba. He was also a farmer in his younger
years raising cattle and growing grapes.
Jim enjoyed working all the time, but if he took a little time off he enjoyed
fishing, deer and turkey hunting, cars, motorcycles, sitting outside on the
porch (summer or winter) and watching action shows on TV. He enjoyed spending
time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law,
Dorothy and Arthur Kaufman; one sister-in-law, Mary Palermo; two brothers-in-
law, David and wife Maxine Cissell and Kenneth Cissell; other relatives and
friends.
He is survived by his wife of the home; one daughter, Pam and husband Mike
Click of Cuba, Missouri; one son, Jaime Wood and friend Ruth Belcher of
Davisville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Grant and Garrett Wood, Josh and
Nikki Walker and Megan Shaw; three brothers, Clifford and wife Peggy Wood of
Clayton, Missouri, Thomas and wife Jean Wood of St. Charles, Missouri and
Elroy “Butch” and wife Rene Wood of Eureka, Missouri; two sisters-in-law,
Barbara and husband Rodney Oliver of Dupo, Illinois and Kathy Bell of St.
Charles, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Mariano “Pal” Palermo of St. Louis,
Missouri; long time special friends, Ralph and Marge Carroll of Cuba, Missouri;
two extremely spoiled and treasured cats, Maggie Sue and Munchie; other
relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Friday, March 21, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. at Britton Funeral
Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2008 with Pastor Jerry
Beers officiating and Kenny Joy giving the eulogy. Special music for the
service was “Wish You Here,” “When I Get to Where I’m Going” and “Go Rest
High on that Mountain.”
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
