He served 20 years in the United States Navy and was a life member of the VFW along with a member of the St. James VFW 5608 and served as the Commander and many offices of the VFW. He is survived by one daughter, Katrina Anderson of Rush City, Minnesota; one brother, Lindel Anderson of Rolla, Missouri; sister, Denise Burke and husband Augie of St. James, Missouri; nieces and nephews, Linda Blair, Otto Burke, Tera Anderson; great nieces and nephews, Colton and Lillianna, Sarah Blair and Kyllian and Trystan and Landyn; other relatives and friends. Mary Maud Baker Stranathan Beebe Mary Maud Baker Stranathan Beebe was born in Steelville, Missouri on March 2, 1931 in Steelville, Missouri to Andrew M. and Maud Lovina (Frank) Baker and passed away on February 22, 2019 at the age of 87 years. She was the youngest of seven children and grew up not knowing her mother, since Lovina contracted pneumonia and died four days after Mary was born. Her paternal grandmother, Martha Susan (Miller) Baker raised her until she was 11 years old. At that time she was adopted by a couple, James Docking Stranathan and his wife Lena (Monroe). Mary married Arthur A Beebe on December 10, 1954. Her college days were spent at Kansas Wesleyan in Salina Kansas and North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She also received her AA degree at Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas. Mary went to Kansas City, Missouri for work at a bank, a department store, John Deere and the IRS. She stayed home to raise her children. In 1973 the family moved to Dallas, Texas so Mary and Art could attend CFNI. After graduation, the family moved to Northern Minnesota. She served as an elder's wife and teacher at Ben Israel Ministries from 1975 to 1986. Ben Israel Ministries was a community of believers living a biblical directive of the first church while ministering locally and worldwide. Mary traveled abroad throughout the world including Israel, Eygpt, Yugoslavia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland with her husband teaching and preaching the gospel. She returned to Minnesota from 2009 to 2015 to care for a longtime friend and precious saint. Upon retirement returned to Parsons, Kansas in 2015. After losing her husband to cancer in 2017 she returned to Minnesota in 2018 to live with her daughter. Mary will be remembered as a generous, kind, lively, spunky friend for countless people. She was a tireless prayer warrior who consistently prayed for people she had encountered. And she will be remembered for her fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. Jack Crafton Jack Crafton of St. James, Missouri was born on December 7, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Roy and Alberta Nail Crafton and passed away at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 12 days. He married Jean Alice Smallwood on August 18, 1956 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Rosati, Missouri. After graduating high school he attended college for a short time. He served his country in the United States Navy in the Korean War and was stationed in Iceland. He received a Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a vital part of the St. James community. He was Post Master at St. James Post Office for 30 years. He was active and supportive in many civic activities of St. James, Missouri. With incredible ease he could strike up a conversation about the local ball teams or how the weather was affecting the local farmers. With his positive outlook on life he encouraged many young people on their path to success in sports, college or their occupation. He and his wife Jean had a beautiful farm in St. James, Missouri. He loved raising cattle, working in the hay fields and riding his three wheeler and even sometimes turning the three wheeler over. Not being one to be idle, he kept busy in his retirement opening an antique shop. He also loved to work with wood and spent many hours in his wood shop making furniture. Charles and Helen operated the family farm adjacent to Big Dry Fork Creek until retirement where they always raised a big garden and Helen enjoyed canning fruit and vegetables to share with her family and friends. Walter Lee Earls Walter Lee Earls was born in rural St. James on October 16, 1926 to George Washington Anderson and Mamie Ellen (Gahr) Earls and passed away on March 18, 2019 at the age of 92 years. He attended Hale School in rural Phelps County and John F. Hodge High School in St. James, Missouri. On September 5, 1948 he married Marian Cowan at Trinity Episcopal Church in St. James, Missouri. They were both graduates of the Class of 1945. Walter was stationed in the US Army in Heidelberg, Germany, as a Court Reporter in 1952-53. When discharged, he went to Southwest Missouri State in Springfield and received his BS degree in Industrial Arts in 1957. He first taught in Pacific High School, Pacific, Missouri. He then came to Rolla, Missouri and taught at the Junior High, Senior High and the Rolla Area Vocational- Technical School. In 1974 he received his Master's Degree in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was the Director of the Night Adult Basic Education Program for many years. After retiring in 1988 he enjoyed working on his farm south of Rolla, which was homesteaded by his great great grandparents. He was secretary-treasurer of Adams Cemetery Board. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Herbert "Herb" Morris Hamilton Herbert "Herb" Morris Hamilton was born June 11, 1932 in Richland, Missouri to Ralph and Mae (Thornsberry) Hamilton and passed away March 16, 2019 at the age of 86 years. Herb served in the United States Army in the Korean Gulf as a Radio Operator after he had completed his undergraduate degree from Southwest Missouri State University. He continued his education at Indiana University where he attained his masters and doctorate in business education. He also was awarded his Masters of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He was a professor at Miami University - Ohio and Longwood College - Virginia. He finished his working career at Defense General Supply Center in Richmond, Virginia. In 1998 Herb moved to Springfield, Missouri to help his parents after his mother experienced a stroke. His mother passed away and he then assisted his father until his father's death in February 2011 at the age of 104 years, 8 months. Herb loved gardening which included flowers and vegetables. He had a garden almost every place he lived. He loved books of which he had many. He also loved music, especially opera. He loved to sing and was an accomplished singer and pianist. He sang solos in church, directed choirs and he preached the gospel. Above all, Herb's greatest love was his Lord Jesus Christ his Savior.He is survived by the mother of his children, Harriet (Wills) Hamilton; two children, Andrew Hamilton and wife Lynn and Annette Duker and husband Russell; three grandchildren, Rebecca Duker, Rachel Pruitt and husband Jim and Nathaniel and wife Kate; two great grandchildren, Matthew Duker and Tristan Cox; other relatives and friends. Hartung of Sullivan, Missouri was born on July 31, 1942 in Bourbon, Missouri to Willard Harland and Oma Virginia (Richardson) Hartung and passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the age of 76 years. He was known as Fred and grew up and attended school in Bourbon, Missouri. Fred worked with his father at Bourbon Redi-Mix. He married Ruth Schweer on July 13, 1963 in Gerald, Missouri. They lived their lives and raised their family in Bourbon. Fred was employed by the State Highway Department and retired after 29 years of service. After his retirement, Fred operated his own dump truck, and then later spent four years as the Crawford County Commissioner. Fred and Ruth were able to travel in their RV for several years. Fred also enjoyed music, especially singing, playing the guitar and having jam sessions. He also enjoyed hanging out at Uncle Ernie's Restaurant in Bourbon, Missouri. Kathy grew up in Jadwin, Missouri. On July 10, 1965 Kathy Nelson married Ronnie Steelman in Salem, Missouri. Kathy worked as a waitress at the Walnut Bowl and Stephens Steakhouse for many years and at the Country Mart Deli for several years. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years and had even bowled a perfect game. Kathy also loved the internet. She was a member of First Baptist Church. He worked as a carpenter most of his life. He was a member of the NRA. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed doing anything outside. Zane enjoyed woodworking, camping and tinkering around with things. Most of all he loved fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zane Stubbert Sr. and Audrey Stubbert Gerecke; and nephew, Jason. He is survived by his children, Zackary (Rachel) Stubbert of Steelville, Missouri, Chad (Jessica) Patrick of Lansing, Michigan and Michelle Stubbert Mills of Dewitt, Michigan; grandchildren, Brooklyn Stubbert, Zackary Stubbert, Lillian Stubbert and Caleb Gullet, all of Steelville, Missouri and Amber, Gabe, Darian and Tristen of Michigan; siblings, Mike Stubbert of Laingsburg, Michigan, Ron (Christie) Stubbert of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lori Robinson of Rochester, New York, Mark Stubbert of Webberville, Michigan and Jeff (Andrea) Stubbert of Arlington, Virginia; brother-in-law, Randy Robinson of Bath, Michigan; nephews and nieces Michael, Jeremy, Scott, Rachel and McKenna; other relatives and friends. "Sammy" Whitman Jr. James D. "Sammy" Whitman Jr. of Steelville, Missouri was born Tuesday, April 24, 1962 to James D. "Danny" and Dorothy (nee Cook) Whitman and passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 at the age of 56 years. Sammy, as he was known by, began his working career as a mechanic. He was very talented and could build or rebuild any motor, motorcycle or automobile. After many years of being a mechanic, Sammy changed his career to be a truck driver. Sammy spent as many hours working on motorcycles as he did riding them. He had a collection of Harley Davidson shirts; one from Kuwait, Afghanistan, Montana and many others. Sammy enjoyed going to Bike Fest at Sturgis, Lake of the Ozarks and Daytona. He enjoyed teasing everyone, NASCAR races on Sunday, classic rock music and cooking. He never wanted anyone to do the dishes or his laundry. Except for Friday lunch, with his son Josh, he didn't eat out. Sammy and his daughter Shawntae enjoyed feeding the ducks at the Steelville Park and going to the Dairy Isle for ice cream cones. In his younger years, you could find him and his sister Teresa at the Magic Market at 3 a.m. having a honey bun and chocolate milk. He was preceded in death by his parents, Danny and Dorothy Whitman; and one son, Cody Whitman. He is survived by his children, Josh and wife Amber Whitman of Cuba, Missouri and Shawntae Norris and friend Deven Williams of Sullivan, Missouri; granddaughter, Clara Whitman of Cuba, Missouri; five siblings, Teresa and husband James Switzer of Cuba, Missouri, Lisa Cunningham of Cuba, Missouri, Tim and wife Deb Whitman of Greenfield, Indiana, Melissa and husband Scott Blunt of Steelville, Missouri and Michelle Whitman of Greenfield, Indiana; special friend, Amanda Schlitt of Steelville, Missouri; four legged pet, "Yogi"; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Gene Rauls officiating. Special recorded music was "Where Eagles Fly," "Tears in Heaven" and "See You Again." Interment and prayers were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at the Praise Temple Memorial Gardens, Fredericktown, Missouri.
