MO Local Obituaries for the Week of March 30, 2000 Rosalie Cape Rosalie Cape, nee Walker, was born Sunday, August 28, 1921 to the late Jessie "Roland" Walker and Alma Grace Liptock Walker and departed this life Sunday, March 19, 2000 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 20 days. Rosalie married Wilbur Wray Cape on February 3, 1940 in Steelville, Mo. and to this union four children were born. Rosalie was a lifelong Crawford County resident. She accepted the Lord early in life and was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Steelville, Mo. Rosalie loved her family, was a great cook, loved children and enjoyed tending her flowers. Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilbur Wray Cape, one daughter Nancy Cape, two brothers Clarence Walker, and Jim Walker, her daughter-in-law Mary Baker Cape, brother-in-laws and sisters-in-law Rainey Earls, George Riebel, Brenda Riebel, Kathryn Cape, Punkie Walker, and Peggy Walker. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her loving sons, Ed Cape and wife Jannette of Springfield, Mo., Dan Cape and wife Diane of Steelville, Mo., Bill Cape and wife Connie of Carlton, Michigan; four grandchildren, David Cape of Florida, Deidre Cape of Steelville, Mo., Susan Cape of Springfield, Mo., and Travis Cape of St. Louis, Mo.; her aunt Helen Puckett of Steelville, Mo.; her brother-in-law and sister-in-laws Maurice and Winnie Cape of Steelville, Mo. and Wilma Earls of Steelville, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Rosalie Walker Cape. Graveside service was held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating. Those serving as pallbearers were: Ed Cape, Dan Cape, Bill Cape, David Cape, Travis Cape, Deidre Cape, Susan Cape, and Pamela Clary. In lieu of flowers the family suggests Memorial be given to the Community Child Care in Steelville, Mo. or the Steelville Cemetery. All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. Sandra May Payne Sandra May Payne, nee Lewis, was born Saturday, December 6, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo., a daughter of Lyle Edward Lewis and the late Cornelia (Crowell) Lewis. She entered eternal life Monday, March 20, 2000, in the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, Mo., at the age of 52 years, 2 months and 14 days. On November 22, 1969, in St. Louis, Mo., Sandra was united in marriage to Sherman Earl Payne. They have enjoyed over thirty years together. She was preceded in death by her mother, Cornelia Lewis, and mother-in-law, Jewell Payne. Sandra was a member of Center Ridge Pentecostal Church, Cherryville, Mo., and attended as long as her health permitted. She graduated from Rolla Business School, November 22, 1992. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted husband, Sherman Payne of the home, Steelville, Mo.; one son, Steven Edward Garrett of St. James, Mo.; two daughters, Malinda Kay and husband Bill Edward Eaton of Cherryville, Mo., and Lori May Payne and husband Jerry W. Bell of Steelville, Mo. Her father and step-mother, Lyle and Catherine Lewis of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Dennis Lewis, also of St. Louis, Mo.; father-in-law Bradley Payne of Steelville, Mo.; three grandchildren, William Andrew Eaton, Matthew Wade Eaton and Paige Marie Garrett, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Sandra May Payne lay in state after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2000, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Harrison Brown officiating. Musical selections were provided by Bob and Carol Coleman. Committal prayers and interment was held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2000, at the Kerns Chapel Cemetery, Poplar Bluff, Mo. Pallbearers were Bradley Lunsford, Jeff Mattingley, Terry Mattingley, Leroy Payne, Mark Payne, and Mike Sherman. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Jerry Neil Britton Jerry Neil Britton of Steelville, Mo., was born Saturday, May 22, 1937, at Fulton, Tennessee, a son of the late George and Martha (Niesler) Britton. He passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2000, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Mo., at the age of 62 years and 10 months. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, William Jesse Britton. Jerry served his country in the United States Army, 1955-1957, spending time in Germany. He was a member of the Saddle Tramp Motorcycle Club of St. Louis, Mo., since 1982. He served as secretary-treasurer of this non-profit organization (established in 1965). He was one of the most popular and well-liked members of the club. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his sons, James "Jim" Britton and wife Roseann of Carol Stream, Illinois, Jerry Henry, Glen Britton Henry, step-sons Michael McLain, Larry Cornett, and Billy Cornett, and step-daughter, Lishana Counts, all of St. Louis, Mo. Three sisters, Sue and husband Jerrell Underwood of Garfield, Kentucky, Glinda and husband Phillip Inman of Pacific, Mo., Janice Rosenberger of Chicago, Illinois, and one step-sister, Ann Cavandar of Dresden, Tennessee; a friend, that was like a brother, Pete Walker of Steelville, Mo.; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Jerry Neil Britton lay in state 11:00 - 8:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2000, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Robert Coleman officiating. Musical selections were traditional southern gospel hymns. Presentation of the American Flag with playing of Taps concluded the service. Interment was a private service. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Arlie Colisity Murphy Tyree Arlie Colisity Murphy Tyree of Bourbon, Mo. passed away at the family home on Friday, March 24, 2000 at the age of 96 years and one day. Arlie was born in Boone Township, Bourbon, Mo., on a farm which was homesteaded by her grandfather, Lewis William Murphy. She was born to the late Lycurgus Eugene and Ida Addeline McGlothlin Murphy on March 23, 1904 as the seventh of nine children. On June 15, 1923 she was married to Elmer Edmund Tyree in Kansas City, Mo., and to this marriage four children were born. Arlie and Elmer enjoyed a long married life together of 76 years. They have lived on their farm since 1945 when they purchased it, and have resided most of their lives in Crawford County. Well known for her many civic and church leadership activities, Arlie was a charter member of the Stringtown Home Economics Club and The Women Society Christian Service (WSCS), known now as the United Methodist Women. She also was a 4-H leader, a member of the Bourbon Boosters, a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, founded the Golden Age Club of Bourbon, and wrote Golden Gleanings in 1976 and 1977. Arlie was a co-worker on the dairy farm, as well as with the MFA Insurance Company agency, which she and Elmer operated for many years. She graduated from Soldan High School in St. Louis, Mo. in 1922 as the only sibling in her family to graduate from high school. She is survived by her husband, Elmer, one son, Roger Tyree and wife, Cathy, of Bourbon; three daughters, Bernadine Rosier of Sherwood, Oregon, Shirley R. Williams and husband, Clifford, of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Sheila F. Wood and husband, William, of Rolla, Mo.; thirteen grandchildren, Claudia L. Howells of Salem, Oregon, Joan L. Reynolds and Deborah A. Laboyen, both of Sherwood, Oregon, Melanie L. Williams of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Gregory A. Wood, Christopher P. Williams and Celia L. Williams, all of Chicago, Illinois, Lesley A. Hill of Milersville, Maryland, Diane K. Stirn of Brookfield, Wisconsin, Lisa M. Wood of Madison, Wisconsin, Teresa A. Cusick of St. Clair, Mo., Linda Jo Wood of Redmond, Washington, and Roger Wayne Tyree of Sullivan, Mo.; twelve great-grandchildren, Coral McDonald of the state of California, Stephanie Reynolds, Jamie Laboyen, and Devon Swank, all of the state of Oregon, Braden Hill of the state of Maryland, Samantha, Joseph and Stephanie Stirn, and Allison Packard, all of the state of Wisconsin, and Brandon, Rachel, and Joshua Cusick, all of the state of Missouri; one sister, Fern Oster of Greer, South Carolina, other relatives, and friends. Arlie was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Oscar Eugene Murphy, Clifton, Gilroy Murphy, Louis "Ted" Murphy, and Walter "Guy" Murphy, and three sisters, Mildred Prudence Chapman, Verna "Madge" Murphy, and Clara Isabella Arthur. Funeral services in celebration of Arlie's long and productive life were conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2000 from the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon with Pastor Diane Coleman officiating. Interment was in Crow Cemetery, Sullivan, Mo. Pallbearers were Roger Wayne Tyree, Christopher P. Williams, Gregory A. Wood, C. Dale Murphy, Neal C. Murphy, and James (PG) Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Leland Higgins, Vernon Higgins and Donald R. Chapman. Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon in memory of Arlie C. Tyree. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Chapel, Bourbon, Mo. Ralph K. Bopp Ralph K. Bopp was born October 13, 1928 in Kirkwood, Mo. to the late Albert Christian Bopp and Margaret Catherine Lukens Bopp and departed this life on March 23, 2000 at his home in Steelville, Mo. at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 10 days. Ralph married Delores Young on September 18, 1948 in Brentwood, Mo. and to this union one son was born. Ralph and Delores started weekending at their place on AA Hwy. in 1966 and retired and moved there in 1976. Ralph was a retired Carpenter, and he enjoyed keeping a very neat yard, and bird watching. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, wife Delores, one brother, Albert Bopp and wife Thelma. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his son Steven Young and wife Deanna of Kansas City, Mo.; one grandson Patrick Young of Prairie Village, Kansas; one step-granddaughter Melinda Barlow of Kansas City, Mo. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene Allen Young and wife Arlene of Manchester, Mo.; 2 God-daughters, Linda Ann Beckman of Kirkwood, Mo. and Geneva Young and husband Jim of Steelville, Mo. Ralph was cremated and his ashes buried next to his wife at the family memorial on their property.
