Max Audell Davis
Max Audell Davis was born Wednesday, April 12, 1933, at Davisville,
Missouri, a son of the late Roy Allen Davis and Estella Frances
"Fannie"Davis (Nee Martin).
He entered eternal rest, Saturday, March 20, 2004, at his home in St.
Louis County, Missouri, at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 8 days.
Max served his country in the United States Army during the Korea
conflict. He was inducted at St. Louis, Missouri, May 1953 and honorably
discharged April 1955 at Fort Carson, Colorado. During this time he was
awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Meritorous
Unit Commendation and Good Conduct Medal.
On December 3, 1955, Rev. Dean Heady, Sr., united Max in marriage to
Mildred Agnes Halbert, daughter of Nettie (Murry) Halbert and the late
Thurston Halbert at the Davisville Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant
daughter, Marilyn Arlene Davis; three brothers, Eugene Davis, Glen Davis
and wife Virginia and an infant brother, Lidle Davis; and one sister,
Hazel and husband Ray Gibbs. Also preceding him in death were
sister-in-law, Ina Davis and brothers-in-law, Bruce McGlasson and Treffie
Adams.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Mildred
of the home; one daughter Melanie Ann Koch and husband Jerry of St.
Peters, Missouri; two sons, Rev. Michael Audel Davis and wife Cathy of
Leonard, Texas, Mitchell Allen Davis of Cedar Hill, Missouri;
mother-in-law, Nettie Halbert of Davisville, Missouri; three brothers,
Jack Davis of Imperial, Missouri, Gilbert Davis and wife Ina, Louis Davis
and wife Agnes of Steelville, Missouri, three sisters, Nerene McGlasson of
Florissant, Missouri, Hilma Adams of Linn, Missouri, Jo Ann and husband
Bob Crabtree of Bourbon, Missouri; brother-in-law and sistersin-law,
Junior and Carol Halbert of Davisville, Missouri and Elsie Davis of
Overland, Missouri; three grandchildren, Christopher and Jonathan Davis of
Leonard, Texas and Rebecca Davis of Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins,
other relatives and friends.
Max Audell Davis lay in state after 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at
the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004, in the Britton
Chapel with Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Musical selections were provided
by vocalist Pastor and Karen Davis and pianist Loudean Chamless.
Committal prayers and interment were in Davisville Cemetery, Davisville,
Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Rick Crabtree, Charles Davis, Daniel
Davis, Gary Davis, Paul Gibbs and Butch McGlasson.
Arrangements were entrusted to Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Dorothy Marie Hildreth
Dorothy Marie Hildreth, nee Smith, was born Sunday September 9, 1923, at
St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late John Archbald Smith and Mary
(Bowen) Smith.
Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, entered eternal rest,
Saturday March 20, 2004, at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan,
Missouri, at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 11 days.
Dorothy leaves to mourn her passing, one son, Michael James Townsley of
St. Louis, Missouri, two daughters, Dorothy "Dottie" and husband Richard
Bohnenkamp of Cherryville, Missouri, and Sharon Portel and husband Marty
of St. Louis, Missouri; son-in-law, John Wenzeburger also of St. Louis,
Missouri; one brother, Vincent Smith of Buffalo, Missouri. Special cousins
Delores and Ernie Brumley and Ann Bullock all of St. Louis, Missouri and
special friend Dorothy Isgriggs of Steelville, Missouri; 15 grandchildren,
37 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael James Townsley; one
daughter, Mary Wenzelburger; four brothers, Thomas, Pete, Raymond and
Buster Smith and one sister, Jean Smith.
Dorothy Marie Hildreth lay in state 1-8 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2004, at
the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services
were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004, in the Britton Chapel, Father
James Finder officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Freeman Cemetery, Cherryville,
Missouri. Honoring Dorothy as pallbearers were Michael J. Townsley, Dan
and Mike Bohnenkamp, Bobbie, Mark, Mark Jr., and Steve Evans.
Arrangements were entrusted to Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
William B. "Bill" King
William B. King was born Sunday, April 5, 1925, at Cleveland, Tennessee, a
son of the late James LeRoy King and Emma L. (Marks) King.
He entered eternal rest Thursday, March 25, 2004, at his home in
Steelville, Missouri at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 20 days.
On October 9, 1948, at Steelville, Missouri, Bill was united in marriage
to Geneva Mae Garms. Three sons were born to this union. They enjoyed over
47 years together, before her death October 25, 1995.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by one
son, Larry Lee King; two brothers, Walter King and Roy King, one sister,
Mary Housewright and one sister-in-law Adele Garms.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are two sons, William Terry
King of Steelville, Missouri and James D. "Jim" King of Owensville,
Missouri; special friend, Janet Halbert of Steelville, Missouri; two
grandsons, Jeremy King of Denver, Colorado and Aaron King of Steelville,
Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Helen Garms of
Scott City, Missouri, Irvin and Dorothy Garms of Cape Girardeau, Missouri,
Dorothy and John White and Ruby Garms of St. Louis, Missouri; two nieces,
Mary of California and Carol of St. Louis, Missouri.
Bill served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He
entered the service at Jefferson Barracks, September 14, 1943 and was
honorably discharged January 30, 1946, at Jefferson Barracks. He was a
member of Lebanon Lodge #77 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Chapter #6479 both
of Steelville, Missouri.
William B. King lay in state 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2004, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, in the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Bob Coleman officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Jeremy King, Aaron King, Donnie
Halbert, Gary Halbert and Mark Halbert.
Arrangements were entrusted to Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Edna Sewell
Edna Sewell was born August 2, 1909 on a farm near Jakes Prairie,
Missouri. She was the tenth child of eleven children born to Edna Beckham
Breuer and Martin Paul Breuer and was the only girl. She left this earth
on March 21, 2004 from her home in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 94 years,
7 months and 19 days.
She married Wayman Sewell on February 22, 1929. They were happily married
for over 60 years.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Wayman, parents and all her
brothers, Arvel, Austin, Paul, Sherman Rhodes, James Ira, William Llloyd,
Clarence, Virgil, Everett and Robert.
She is survived by three children, Robert and his wife Rickie of St.
Charles, Mo., Kathleen Pratt and her husband John of Cuba, Mo. And
Margaret Matheny of Cuba, Mo. Also surviving are her grandchildren,
Kenneth and wife Cathy, Lisa Wilson and husband Andy, Martin Sewell,
Samuel Pratt and wife Debbie, Dwight Pratt and wife Cindy, Roberta Doherty
and husband John, Andrew Pratt and wife Linda, Stephen Matheny, Donna
Wright, Ronald Matheny and wife Terri and Bonnie Allen and husband Mike;
she is also survived by great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Edna was baptized into her Lord at the Oak Grove Church of Christ when she
was 13 years old. She had a strong, unshakeable faith in God, no matter
what trials and temptations came. She moved with her husband to St. Louis,
Mo. after their marriage and lived there for over 50 years. While there
they were active members of the Overland Church of Christ, where Wayman
served as an Elder. For many years Edna was a bible class teacher of both
children and women. She was particularly effective in teaching women's
classes. She did much visiting of the sick, entertained many people in her
home and reared her children to have a strong faith in God.
In 1978 Edna and Wayman moved to Cuba, Mo. While living there they
worshiped with the Church of Christ. In the last months of her illness she
was gentle and considerate of those who were caring for her. She never
grew tired of talking about her faith in God to those who visited her and
were her helpers. She had a talent for and a great joy in writing
spiritual articles. A great soul has gone home.
Edna Marie Sewell was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
where funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 2 p.m.
with Ernest Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Oak Grove Cemetery,
St. James, Mo. Pallbearers were Kenneth Sewell, Andrew Pratt, Stephen
Matheny, John Doherty, Andy Wilson and Samuel Pratt. All arrangements were
under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Barbara Paulette Wagner
Barbara Paulette Wagner, 57, Leavenworth, Kansas, formerly of Viburnum,
Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital,
Kansas City, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17 at the
Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth. Chaplain Jack Divine and Rev. Steve
Evans officiated.
Barbara was retired from the Eisenhower VA Medical Center and was
currently working for the Durham Bus Service as a bus monitor.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Harrison and Della
Thomas, and her paternal grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Jerome Evans.
She is survived by Larry of the home, son Jeff Wagner and wife Tracey,
grandchildren Maggie and Nicolas Wagner; mother Leah Land of Wichita,
Kansas; father Ellis and Ardell Evans, Steelville, Missouri; sister, Sonja
Land; brothers Paul Fuller and Murlyn Land, Gary, Frank and Steve Evans,
uncles, aunts, cousins, and many, many friends as noted by the flowers,
visitors and food taken to the home.
Davis Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Interment in the Mt.
Muncie Cemetery, Lansing, Kansas.
