James Allen Bartel
James Allen Bartel of Sullivan, Missouri was born at Washington, Missouri
to Junior Allen and Alice June (Reed) Bartel. He passed away at his home
on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the age of 63 years.
Jim, as he was known by friends, lived in the Strain area near Gerald,
Missouri as a youngster and in 1964 came to Sullivan to make his home.
He honorably served his country during the Vietnam War and had attained the
rank of Sergeant with a specialty in the infantry and light weapons.
After his return home, on June 8, 1968 he was united in marriage to Verna
Joyce Wilkinson at Sullivan, Missouri and to this union two children were
born.
Jim was employed at Paramount Cap Company in Bourbon, Missouri for a time
and later worked at Chrysler in Fenton, Missouri until he retired from there.
He then stocked shelves for Frito-Lay for 10 years and later, Jim became a
car transporter for area car dealerships.
He enjoyed gathering most every day with the Flying-J crew for coffee. He
was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed cutting the grass and woodworking.
He liked camping and outings with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Verna of the family home; son, Keith Bartel
and wife Shandy of O’Fallon, Missouri; daughter, Jennifer Bayless and
husband Tommy of Bourbon, Missouri; three grandchildren, Rachael and
Clarice Bartel and Lauren Bayless; one brother, Richard Bartel and wife
Beth of Rolla, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2010 from
the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor
Scott Perry officiating.
Interment was in Oddfellows Memorial Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
Billie M. Fisher
Billie M. Fisher of Sullivan, Missouri was born at Bush, Illinois on
March 12, 1926 to John and Elizabeth (Jarvis) Judd and passed away
Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the age of 83 years.
She was raised in that area as a child. In 1981, she moved to the Sullivan
area so that she could be closer to her children. Billie was self-employed
in the restaurant business at different times throughout her lifetime and
continued to work in the restaurant field until ill health caused her to
retire. Billie was a wonderful cook who had a pleasant spirit. She enjoyed
sewing and embroidering and as a youngster was baptized into the
Pentecostal faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Judd; a
brother, John Judd, two other brothers in their infancy; and four sisters,
Geraldine Moulten, Ruthie Shirley, Susie Mayfield and Verna Mifflin.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane Lessard and husband David of Sullivan,
Missouri and June Greenlee of Sullivan, Missouri; one son, Rick Greenlee of
the state of Indiana; two brothers, Jim Judd of Desoto, Illinois and Jack
Judd of Momence, Illinois; three sisters, Betty Greenhut of the state of
Montana, Fannie Hartung of Bourbon, Missouri and Bessie Perryman of Hurst,
Illinois; eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010 from the Chapel
of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating.
Entombment was in Oddfellows Memorial Mausoleum.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
Alma V. James
Alma V. James was born May 19, 1921 in Vienna, Missouri to Oliver and Viola
(Honse) Hopkins and passed away March 19, 2010 in Rolla, Missouri at the age
of 88 years.
Alma was a member of the First Baptist Church, the American War Mothers and
the Quilt Club. She also was a volunteer Poll Clerk and Red Cross Volunteer.
She grew up in the Little Flock Community north of Vienna, Missouri. She
enjoyed flowers and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Viola Hopkins; husband,
Travis James; step father, Tim Tackett; brothers, Wayne Hopkins and Gayle
Tackett and sister, Mae Rudroff.
She is survived by her daughter, Alma Jean Pike and husband Charles of
Newcastle, California; sons, Dan James and wife Susan of Rolla, Missouri
and Randy James and wife Denise of Rolla, Missouri; brother, Leslie Tackett
and wife Vicki of Vienna, Missouri; sisters, Donna Backues of Vienna,
Missouri, Fern Clark of Belle, Missouri, Darlene French of Vienna and
Evelyn Moser and husband Bob of Hermann, Missouri; grandchildren, Chris and
Russ Pike, Megan and Clayton James, Amy Lewis, Jessica James and Hannah
Chapman; five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at James & Gahr Mortuary
in Rolla, Missouri.
Funeral services were Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the James &
Gahr Mortuary in Rolla, Missouri with Dr. Bob Johnson officiating.
Interment was in the James Community Cemetery of Vienna, Missouri.

Missouri.
Alvin E. Kohne
Alvin E. Kohne passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel A. Kohne and daughter-in-law,
Judy Kohne.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (nee Sullivan) Kohne; children, David E.
Kohne and daughter-in-law, Joanne Kohne; grandchildren, Erin, Kristen and
Kyle Kohne and Tiffany and Joshua Kohne, Juston and Alena Mulder; brother,
John Kohne and wife Alice of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the Kutis Affton Chapel, Affton,
Missouri.
Funeral services were Monday, March 29, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. from Kutis
Affton Chapel, Affton, Missouri, to Assumption Catholic Church for a
1 p.m. Mass.
Interment was in the Assumption Cemetery.

Missouri.
Terry Lea
Terry Ray Lea, of Wildwood, Florida, formerly of Salem, Missouri, was born
in Marion, Kansas to Peggy (Inman) Terry and Raymond Lea and passed away
March 22, 2010 at the age of 50 years, 3 months and 2 days.
Brother Lea was an Evangelist Pastor. In addition to pastoring, he enjoyed
singing, fishing, hunting and especially the time that he spent with his
family. He served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Lea; grandparents, Paul and
Louise Inman, Jesse and Bertha Lea and Maurice Terry; sister, Elizabeth Lea
and a brother, James Branson.
He is survived by his wife of nine years, Brenda (McDonald) Lea of Wildwood,
Florida; mother, Peggy (Inman) Terry and her husband Stanley of Wildwood,
Florida; children, Jennifer Kroon, Jessica Lea, Preston Lea, all of Lebanon,
Missouri, Nathan Leeser and wife Susan of Jacksonville, Florida, Jonathan
Leeser of Italy, Megan Nash and husband Lanny of Rolla, Missouri and Tim
McDonald and wife Tasha of Cuba, Missouri; brothers, Jerry Lea and wife
Corina of Salem, Missouri, Danny Terry and wife Irene of Lake Panasoffkee,
Florida; sisters, Elzetta Lea of Fruitland Park, Florida, Elaine Butler and
husband Dennis of Groveland, Florida, Elissa Brower and husband Nick of Lady

at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the Salem Chapel of the James &
Gahr Mortuary with Pastor Doug Massey officiating.
Interment in the Dry Fork Cemetery, Salem, Missouri.

Geraldine V. Neff
Geraldine Vivian Neff, of Sullivan, Missouri, was born on January 6, 1928,
in Sullivan, Missouri to William “Bill” Stroup and Myrtle George-Stroup
and passed away on Friday, March 19, 2010, at the age of 82 years.
Geraldine married Warren Neff on February 8, 1945, in Sullivan, Missouri
and together had one son.
Geraldine was a committed employee of Fidelity Communications for many
years. She was known by many people in Sullivan as a professional house-
keeper and an excellent cook. She will be fondly remembered for the
wonderful pies (especially coconut cream) that she made for friends and
family.
Gerrie was also a faithful member of Full Gospel Assembly of God in
Sullivan, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Myrtle Stroup; her
husband, Warren; a brother, William “Bud” Stroupe; and a sister, Cheryl
Stroup-Hunter.
She is survived by one son, Wayne Neff of Sullivan, Missouri; brother,
Thomas Stroupe and wife Fern of Bland, Missouri; sister, Thelma Marie
Stroup-Summers of Bourbon, Missouri; three granddaughters, Tracy Ward and
husband Rob, Amy Immekus and husband Brian, all of Sullivan, Missouri and
Rachel Neff and fiance’ Matt Sauer, both of St. Louis, Missouri; former
daughter-in-law, Beth Neff, of Sullivan, Missouri; four great grand-
children, Dalton, Colton, Collin and Sydney; other relatives and friends.
Services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Full
Gospel Assembly of God in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Dale Graham
officiating.
Burial followed in the Oddfellows Cemetery.

Louis A. “Louie” Picarella
Louis A. “Louie” Picarella of Festus, Missouri was born October 18, 1933
at Crystal City, Missouri to Anthony and Mary (nee Dinolfo) Picarella and
passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Baisch Nursing Center, DeSoto,
Missouri at the age of 76 years.
Louie was in the Marine Corp and served in Korea. He belonged to the
Sacred Heart Church, Crystal City, Missouri and a member of the Elks Lodge
#1721.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary Picarella; brother,
Joseph Picarella; sisters, Josie Bradley and Rita Muffler; sisters-in-law,
Jeanne Picarella and Carmella Picarella; other relatives and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Jo (nee Summers) Picarella of Festus,
Missouri (formerly of Steelville, Missouri); daughter, Katherine Marie
Picarella of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers, Michael J. Picarella of Crystal
City, Missouri and Tony Picarella Sr. of Crystal City, Missouri; sister,
Jenny (Greg) Hensley, Imperial, Missouri; sister-in-law, Mary Picarella;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Vinyard Funeral
Home, Festus, Missouri.
Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Sacred Heart
Church, Crystal City, Missouri with Fr. Joseph Wormek officiating.
Interment in the National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.

Zelma Louise Smith
Zelma Louise Smith, age 73, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, was born on
August 5, 1936 in Cherryville, Missouri, to Logan James and Myrtle (Bryant)
Harris and passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2010 in her home at the age of
73 years.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker caring for her family and
children moving from Harrisonville, Missouri to Mt. Vernon, Missouri in
2008.
On July 16, 1955 she married Charles Smith in Cherryville, Missouri and he
preceded her in death on April 3, 2005.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Logan and Myrtle Harris; son,
Charles Smith; grandson, Noah Smith; and two sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Ellen Harris and her husband Jim of
Mt. Vernon, Missouri and Anna Smith of the home; two sons, Gary Smith and
wife Norma and James Smith and wife Debbie, all of Harrisonville, Missouri;
four sisters; three brothers; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, March 24, 2010
in the funeral home chapel.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the
Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
Burial was at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Orient Cemetery in
Harrisonville, Missouri.

Chester Steen
Chester Raymond Steen of Belle, Missouri was born on June 5, 1922 in Phelps
County to John Logan and Orpha Mae White Steen and passed away March 14, 2010
at the Harry S Truman Hospital in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 87 years.
On July 6, 1956 he married Cora Cook and to this union seven children were
born.
He was a decorated Army veteran serving in World War II. He was a member of
the Liberty Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Orpha Steen; a son, Randy
Mark; four brothers, Arthur, Oscar, Jackson and Earl Steen Jr. and one
sister, Lorene Pedroli.
He is survived by his wife, Cora; five daughters, Rhonda Bates and friend
Jack Repp, Janella Fredendall and husband Zack, Valerie Steen and friend
Billy Cooksey, Shelly Schweer and husband Jeff and Phyllis Bufford; one son,
Chester Raymond “Pete” Steen Jr. of Belle, Missouri; two brothers, Harold
Steen and wife Carla of Tuscumbia, Missouri and James Alfred Steen and wife
Shirley of St. James, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren;
other relatives and friends.
Services were held Tuesday, March 16, 2010 from the Liberty Church of
Christ.
Interment was in the Oak Forest Cemetery.

Mike “Red” Stroupe
Mike “Red” Stroupe of St. Louis, Missouri was born on Sunday,
January 4, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri to Harry and Maude Stroupe and
passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010 at the age of 51 years, 2 months and
18 days.
Mike worked for many years as a laborer on a river tugboat “Hornet.” In his
pastime, he enjoyed listening to 60’s & 70’s music and watching TV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Maude Stroupe; brothers,
Joseph and Fred Stroupe; brother-in-law Richard Holmes; nephew, Harry Sam
Putnam; great nephews, Samuel and Matthew Putnam.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters, Raymond (Mary) Stroupe of
Barnhart, Missouri, Harold James Stroupe, Kenneth Stroupe, and Mary (Joseph)
Storey, all of Steelville, Missouri, Debra (Bruce) Christopher and Linda
(Richard) Heflin, all of Cuba, Missouri; sister-in-law, Linda Kay Stroupe
of St. Louis, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Funeral service was on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating.

Hallie Eva Vance
Hallie Eva Vance of Cuba, Missouri was born on Tuesday, October 31, 1922 at
Steelville, Missouri to James Albert and Bertha May (nee Ray) Pinson and
passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Rolla, Missouri at the age of 87 years,
4 months and 23 days.
Hallie was united in marriage to Perry Vance in March of 1945 at Steelville,
Missouri and to this union six children were born.
Hallie and Perry moved to Cuba in 1961 and soon after she joined the First
Baptist Church of Cuba, Missouri. She enjoyed reading, making braided rugs,
bird watching and collecting angels.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bertha Pinson; husband,
Perry Vance; son, Jack Vance; three brothers, Grant, Frank and Jewell Pinson;
two sisters, Oma Lee Vance and Opal Nelson; two sons-in-law, Jim Cassidy and
Chuck Cavin; two sisters-in-law, Betsey and Eileen Pinson and two brothers-
in-law, Ray Vance and Robert Nelson; other relatives and friends.
She is survived by her children, Roger Vance of Texas, Tom Vance of Texas,
Mary and husband Harry Carroll, Sandra Cassidy and Rhonda Vance, all of Cuba,
Missouri; sister Eula Pinson of Bourbon, Missouri, 12 grandchildren; 21 great
grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Thursday, March 25, 2010 from noon until 2 p.m. at the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Mike Potter officiating.
Special music was “When I Get to Where I’m Going,” “In the Garden” and
“I’ll Fly Away.”
Interment followed at the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
