He married Mary Louise Argent in Overland, Missouri on June 12, 1948. He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 414, a member of Owensville Masonic Lodge #624, a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneer of America, and a life member of the C.W.A. He served his country in the United States Navy as a Fireman, First Class. He fought in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign during WWII and received a Victory Medal of Honor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Burlison on March 5, 2019; one daughter, Barbara Caldwell; one brother, Robert Burlison; and one sister, Doris Jean Reeder. From 1952 to 1960 he was a member of the Missouri Army National Guard. In November of 1993 he married Gayla Chapel. He was employed for St. Louis Can Company, Chrysler Corporation, became an independent owner and operator of a trucking company and later worked for over 25 years as an over the road truck driver for Yellow Freight. He also worked part-time for Mid America Coach. Robert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved the outdoors whether it was hunting, working cattle or riding his horses. He loved all animals. She enjoyed doing word searches and crossword puzzles; playing games of all kinds and watching the Game Show Network. Anna was a Cardinal baseball fan and liked working with her flowers. Joseph "Joe" Perkins was born in St. James, Missouri to Lawrence "Tick" and Lucille Perkins on November 22, 1938 and passed away on March 25, 2019 at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 3 days. Joe received his BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering from Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri. He was commissioned in the US Army. During his first tour in Vietnam he lived with the Mountainards as an advisor to the South Vietnamese Army. During his second tour in Vietnam he was the operations officer for a combat engineer battalion that built roads in the booby-trapped and sniper-filled Vietnamese countryside. He supervised construction of an anti-aircraft missile site in Korea; roads and bridges in the Dominican Republic; an anti-ballistic missile system in North Dakota; perimeter anti-ballistic sites in remote parts of Alaska; and boat harbors and roads throughout Alaska. He supervised the construction of the challenging rehabs of the Snettisham Hydroelectric Project in Southeast Alaska and the Chena Flood Control Project in Fairbanks. Already, he was leaving his imprint on the face of Alaska's infrastructure. In Joe's final years in the Army he helped the US Department Energy construct nuclear waste and energy storage facilities, including the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in Louisiana. Back with the Army Corps of Engineers, he supervised the highly complex construction of King Khalid City in Saudi Arabia. He retired a Lieutenant Colonel working as Deputy Commander of the Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District. During his Army career, he received two Legion of Merit awards, two Bronze Stars, and numerous other meritorious service medals. Joe joined the Alaska Power Authority and managed an aggressive design and construction program to meet those needs, including the completion of several hydroelectric projects that currently provide about 20% of Alaska's low-cost energy. He was Vice President and President of Frank Moolin and Associates where he led design and construction of numerous Alaska infrastructure projects funded with pipeline royalties. When the Alaska economy tanked in the late 1980s Joe joined Moolin's parent company, Ebasco, as its South American vice president where he completed the construction of the US embassy in Santiago, Chile and led business development efforts in South America. It was during this time that Governor Tony Knowles asked Joe to return to Alaska as the Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Transportation. He elevated Alaska DOT to a national and international level when he served as President of the Western Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, the Vice-President of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and as one of two US delegates to the World Road Association. He also served on the Alaska Railroad Board of Directors and the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority Board of Directors for eight years. After Joe retired from Alaska DOT in 2002, he lived in Juneau but traveled the world helping developing countries plan their fledgling transportation infrastructure systems. He helped identify transportation corridors in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. He worked with the President of Sao Tome to reroute transportation corridors to enhance economic development. He loved fly fishing with his friends. He enjoyed travelling the world with his wife, Laurie. He read and studied history voraciously and often said that he would have loved to have been a history professor. He championed Juneau football and served on the JYFL Board of Directors for several years. One of his proudest days was the day he was inducted as a Distinguished Alumnus at his alma mater. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lucille Perkins. After serving in the military he worked as a welder for Shippers Railroad. He worked on the St. Louis Arch. He was also a mechanic and a retired farmer. Kenneth Wayne Smith Kenneth Wayne Smith Sr. of Edgar Springs, Missouri, formerly of New Cambria, Missouri, was born in Rolla, Missouri on March 13, 1948 to Harold and Virginia (Brown) Smith and passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the age of 71 years. On November 12, 1966 he married Barbara Skaggs. Ken owned and successfully operated Smith and Son Lumber Co., a sawmill in New Cambria for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Virginia Smith; one brother, John Smith; sister, Bonnie Sisson; daughter, Angela Smith; one son, Anthony "Tony" Smith; and two great granddaughters. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Smith of Edgar Springs, Missouri; three sons, Kenneth Wayne Smith Jr. and wife Debbie of Newburg, Missouri, Harold "Hank" Smith and wife Tammy of St. James, Missouri and Robert "Bobby" Smith and partner John Sieve of Villa Ridge, Missouri; David Gooding, who was considered an adopted son, of Clarksville, Missouri; six brothers, Dan Smith, Carl Smith and wife Zelma, Joe Smith and wife Lorraine, Dave Smith and wife Christine, all of Newburg, Missouri, Jerry Smith and wife Kathy of Dixon, Missouri and Will Smith and wife Glenda of Newburg, Missouri; three sisters, Laura Myers and husband Chuck of Indianapolis, Indiana, Barbara Gabel and husband Jim and Brenda Leggett and husband Don, both of Newburg, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Tina Smith; nine grandchildren, Leslie, Kenny III, Kendra, Chelsey, Kyle, Tabby, Shane, Dallas and Katie; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; other relatives and friends. Jesse B. "J.B." Teasley Jesse B. "J.B." Teasley of Corning, Arkansas, formerly of Rolla, Missouri, was born in Corning on November 23, 1940 to James Otis and Hazel Marie (Swift) Teasley and passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the age of 78 years. J.B. had many hobbies, but his favorites were fishing, playing gospel music on the piano and making fishing lures. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Hazel Teasley; son, Michael Teasley; and his wife of 46 years, Martha Jean Teasley. Juanita Thornhill Juanita Thornhill (nee Johnson) of Bourbon, Missouri was born on January 1, 1933 in Strangers Home, Arkansas to Kennard M. and Allie Mae (Ludwig) Johnson and passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the age of 86 years. Juanita marriedElroy G. Thornhill on March 15, 1948 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Juanita was a homemaker. She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls, quilting, crocheting and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kennard and Allie Mae Johnson; husband, Elroy G. Thornhill; three sisters, Madeline Johnson, Pauline Whitlow and Dorothy Springer; four brothers, Chester, Carnell, Kenneth "Pete" and Eugene Johnson; two grand- daughters, Kristy Lynn and Lisa Jean Thornhill; and one son-in-law, James Ray. She is survived by four children, Susan "Anita" Ray of Bourbon, Missouri, Danny and wife Carol Thornhill of Salome, Arizona, Randall "David" Thornhill of New Mexico and Kathy Thornhill of St. James, Missouri; grandchildren; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Douglas Maurice Whiteside Douglas Maurice Whiteside of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday, July 28, 1937 at Teague, Texas to William and Vida (nee Lancaster) Whiteside and passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the age of 81 years. He married Beatrice S. Sappington on Friday, June 28, 1957 at Irving, Texas. Doug retired from Brown Group, after 43 years of dedicated service, working in the Retail Management Department for the company. In his younger years he enjoyed coaching youth sports; basketball, softball and baseball. He was an avid sports fan, especially for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M. He enjoyed being outdoors, working on the yard, taking care of the flower gardens and fishing. He spent hours reading and whistling to country and gospel music. He was up to date on politics and very patriotic. Doug was proud of his Texas heritage and he would go to his high school reunion every year. He was a member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge #312 A.F. & A.M. and the Cuba Eastern Star Chapter #398. At the age of 16 Doug became a Christian and for the last few years they have attended Trinity Chapel Presbyterian Church, Cuba, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Vida Whiteside; brother, Glenn Whiteside; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Guest. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bea Whiteside of the home; four children, Tanya J. Whiteside of Cuba, Missouri, Sherlyn J. Whiteside of Chesterfield, Missouri, Regina and husband Thomas Martin of Chesterfield, Missouri and Chann and wife Tracy Whiteside of O'Fallon, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, Troy and wife Mandy Wyatt of Cuba, Missouri, Teah and husband Kevin Griffin of St. Louis, Missouri, Coby and wife Leanne Feltner of New Port News, Virginia, Shawn and husband Jeffrey Young of Ballwin, Missouri, Toree and husband Zac Williams of Lansing, Michigan, Loren and husband Rick Goudreau of New York City, New York, Jacob T.
