MO Local Obituaries for the Week of April 7, 2005 Julia Mae Blanton Julia Mae Blanton, nee Harman, was born Wednesday, September 10, 1930, at Steelville, Missouri, the daughter of Lee Roy Harman and Cora Bell Harman (nee Cook). She departed this life Friday, March 25, 2005, at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 15 days. On March 2, 1949, at the home of Rev. Sam Roper, Steelville, Missouri, Julia was united in marriage to Roy Lewis Blanton. Two daughters and one son were born to this union. They enjoyed over 54 years together, before his passing, December 22, 2003. In addition to her parents and Roy, she was preceded in death by one son, Leonard Roy Blanton (August 3, 1996) and three brothers, Eldon Harman, Gilbert Harman and Roy "Sonny" Harman and two sisters, Ruby Lee Hinkley and Ada Hall. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Phillip Davis, one grandson, Jason Blanton and brother-in-law, Howard Blanton. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughters, Donna and husband Charles Harper and Susie Blanton; daughter-in-law, Tina Blanton, all of Steelville, Missouri; one brother, John Harman and wife Janette of Bourbon, Missouri; one sister, Edna and husband Kenneth Pratt of Steelville, Missouri. Grandchildren, Mike (Carol) Davis, Rebecca (Chad) Barton, Erin (Robert) Harmon, Jennifer Stevens, Roxanna Blanton; twelve great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2005, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Stan Collins officiating. Musical selections were provided by Joy Collins. Committal prayers and interment was in Liberty Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Chad Barton, Mike Davis, Jim Harman, Robert Harmon, Ronald Slovensky and Benny Woods. Leona Kitson Brakefield Leona Kitson Brakefield nee Watts of Cuba, Missouri was born Friday, August 23, 1912 in Colony, Oklahoma to Gordon Timothy Watts and Fannie King Watts. She passed away at Cuba Manor on Sunday, March 27, 2005 at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 4 days. Leona married Champ Clark Kitson, Sr. at Golden Eagle, Illinois on August 9, 1928 and to this union seven children were born. Leona married Bert Farrar in 1976 at Covenant Praise Church of God. She later married Bill Brakefield on May 23, 1983 in St. James, Missouri. Leona was very active in her church and even helped start churches. She first taught youth girls in Sunday School and later an adult ladies class. She worked as a sheet metal assembler in the airline industry. Her hobbies were quilting, sewing, gardening, playing piano and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Those who preceded her in death are her parents; husbands Champ Clark Kitson, Sr., Albert "Bert" Farrar and Bill "Willie" Brakefield; brothers Jim Watts, Bill Watts, Charles Watts and Windell Watts; sisters Nellie Wilson, and Arlowein Hanson, son Champ Clark Kitson, Jr. and an infant son. She is survived by her children Edward G. Kitson and wife Dorothy of Rolla, Missouri and Kenneth E. Kitson and wife Susan of Collinsville, Illinois; Margie Dietrich and husband Harvey of St. Clair, Missouri, Audrey Anderson and husband James of Cuba, Missouri and Melody Blake and husband Tom of Byers, Colorado; daughter-in-law Shirley Kitson of St. Louis, Missouri; sisters-in-law Anna Bell Kitson, and Alma Hewitt, all of Winfield, Missouri; 25grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, and 34 great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation was from 5-9 on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral services were 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at Covenant Praise Church of God in Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Mark Smith and Rev. Gary Bartle officiating. Burial was at Meramec Hills Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri with pallbearers James Roy Anderson, Jr., Jason Anderson, Jeff Anderson, Jimmy Dale Jones, Eddie Harman, and A.J. Harman. Honorary pallbearer was Gordon Kitson, Jr. All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Thelma Byers Thelma Byers, of Montgomery City, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the age of 79 years. She was born on May 7, 1925 at Dover, Arkansas, the daughter of Robert and Ollie (nee Towe) Divine. Mrs. Byers was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Fletcher, Mo. She also was a member of Cloud Nine Resort Ranch, and enjoyed traveling and music jam sessions. She formally was employed by Cheesborough Company as a machine operator. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Archie R. Byers; one son, Larry Byers, and one sister, Mary Lee Dickson. Those who remain to mourn her passing are three sons, Billy Joe (Mae) Byers of DeSoto, Mo., Darrell (Bonnie) Byers, Holtz Summit, Mo., David (Anita) Byers, Festus, Mo., Gary (Rita) Byers, Montgomery City, Mo.; one daughter, Diane DeRousse, Cuba, Mo.; one brother and one sister, Joe Divine and Marion Remaro, both of California. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Visitation was held at Mahn Funeral Home on Thursday, March 31, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. Services were held at Mahn Funeral Home on Friday, April 1, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Phil Cox officiating. Sherri Angela Dillingham Sherrie Angela Dillingham, nee Cammarata, of Davisville, Missouri, formerly of Bland, Missouri, was born Monday, November 24, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph Cammarata and Elizabeth Kautz Cammarata and passed away Monday, March 28, 2005 at her home in Davisville, Missouri at the age of 57 years, 4 months and 4 days. Sherrie married David Elmer Dillingham on January 9, 1964 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union three children were born. Sherrie enjoyed painting and gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her husband, David of Bland, Missouri; her parents Joseph and Elizabeth Cammarata of St. Louis, Missouri. Three children, Joe Patrick Dillingham of Viburnum, Missouri, Dana Elizabeth Freebersyser and husband George of St. Peters, Missouri and Jodi Angela Delius of Fayette, Missouri; and five grandchildren. Cheri Celeste Hopkins Cheri Celeste Hopkins, nee Ashworth, was born Wednesday, May 1, 1912, at Steelville, Missouri, the daughter of the late George Washington Ashworth and Bettie Gertrude Ashworth (Nee Doggett). She entered eternal rest Easter Sunday, March 27, 2005, at the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 26 days. On New Years Eve, December 31, 1931, at the Baptist Parsonage in Steelville, Missouri, the Pastor G. Owens Baxter united Celeste in marriage to Willis Dryden Hopkins. One son Larry, and one daughter, Georgia Beth were born to this union. They enjoyed over seventy years together, before his death, September 19, 2002. In addition to her parents and Willis, she was preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William Garner, Levi Hopkins, Glenn and Marie Hopkins, Francis and Earl Hanks, Bennie and Kenneth Perkins, Alice and Kenneth Matlock, Margie and Frank Grady. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter, Georgia Beth and husband Jim Barksdale of Steelville, Missouri; her loving son, Larry Hopkins and wife June of St. Charles, Missouri; one sister, Irvine Garner of Central Valley, California; sister-in-law, Theresa Hopkins of Moberly, Missouri. Also remaining are seven great grandchildren, Sarah Weisel, Daniel Hopkins, Jamie Hopkins, Steven Barksdale, Adam Barksdale, Brooke Prigge and Paige Prigge; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends who remember her as the "Hello girl" at the phone exchange and ad builder for the Crawford Mirror. She was loved for her singing and people enjoyed her coming to Gibbs Care to sing and visit. She was a member of First Baptist Church since she was a teenager and participated in its many activities as long as her health permitted. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at the First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri, with Pastor Jesse Parrott officiating. Musical selections were provided by the Church Choir under the direction of Scott Halbert, accompanied by pianist Sharon England. Committal prayers and interment was in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons David Hopkins, Kevin Barksdale, Tom Prigge and great grandsons, Adam Barksdale, Steven Barksdale and Daniel Hopkins. Paul Pineas Hoth Paul Pineas Hoth of Cuba, Missouri was born on March 2, 1920 in Leonia, New Jersey to the union of Fredric and Lois Pett Hoth and passed away Saturday, March 12, 2005 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri at the age of 85 years and 10 days. On June 27, 1967 Paul was united in marriage to Eva Felfoldy in Whippany, New Jersey. Paul was blessed with a stepson, Z. Peter Florian and two step daughters, Aniko Florian and Ildiko Solly. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Suzanne. Paul graduated from Stephens Institute of Technology in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Paul was an electrical and mechanical engineer with AT&T for many years until his retirement. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his devoted wife, Eva Hoth of Cuba, Missouri; three daughters Pamela Stolten and husband Frank, Deborah Gutbier and husband Robert, Jacqueline Morrill and husband Gary; stepson Z. Peter Florian; two stepdaughters Aniko Florian and Ildiko Solly; 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; one brother Fredric Hoth; one sister Barbara Rosencrantz. Paul was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother and good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Paul Phineas Hoth lay in state on Tuesday, March 14 at the Britton Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 with Father Don Siciliano officiating. Interment was in the Kinder Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Dottie Martin Dorothea "Dottie" Mae Martin, of Dixon, Missouri was born on January 30, 1926, in the city of St Louis, Missouri, a daughter of Wallace David and Verda Lee (Compton) Coffin, and departed this life at 2:48 a.m., Sunday, February 27, 2005, at her residence in Dixon. She had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 79 years, and 25 days. Mrs. Martin was united in marriage on November 17, 1946, at St. John's, Missouri, to Edgar Carl Martin, and to this union three sons were born. She was preceded in death by her father in April 1983, her mother on March 22, 1985 and one brother, David Coffin in April 1993. Mrs. Martin had accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Vienna and a member of the Gideon Auxiliary. Mrs. Martin enjoyed writing children's stories and poems, traveling, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted housewife and homemaker. Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Martin include: her husband, Ed Martin, of the home, Dixon; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ed Jr. and Kathy Martin, Webster Groves, Missouri, Donald J. "Jeff' and Susan M. Martin, Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and Steve and Anita Martin, Dixon, Missouri. One brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Connie Coffin, Oakland, Missouri; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Lou and Earl Smith, Hallsville, Missouri and Ruth and Charles Kutscher, Fabius, New York. Thirteen grandchildren, Ed III, Andrew, Philip, Hannah, Amy, Joshua, Daniel, Emma Lea, Christianne, Elizabeth, Stephen, Jedidiah and Samuel; two great grandchildren, Jacob and Jessica; and a host of family and friends. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Mrs. Martin will indeed be sadly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Martin at 10 a.m., on Friday, March 4, 2005, at the First Baptist Church, Vienna, Missouri with Rev. Cameron R. Moles, pastor, officiating. A poem was read, titled "The Right Choice" written by Mrs. Martin. Two songs, "In The Garden" and "Beulah Land", were sung by Lisa Applegate and Angela Moles. One congregational song, "Amazing Grace" was led by Rena Stark, First Baptist Church Choir Director, for the funeral service. Interment was in the Kenner Cemetery, Dixon, Missouri, under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes. Pallbearers for Mrs. Martin were Edgar Martin III, Joshua Martin, Keith Gaffing, Phillip Martin, Daniel Smith, and Paul Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Feeler, Ellis Crum Jr., George Wadlow, Gary Applegate, Ed House, and Billy Cloyde. Bernard Dee Petty Bernard Dee Petty was born Saturday October 22, 1932, at Pleasant Plains, Illinois, a son of the late Fredrick E. Petty and Eulila Elizabeth Moutray Petty. He departed this life Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the Loveland Heath Center, Loveland, Ohio, at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 7 days. On February 15, 1958, at Northfork, Arkansas, Bernard was united in marriage to Annie Marie Harris. Two sons and four daughters (one set of triplets) were born to this union. Annie and three daughters, Dawn Fay Petty, Diana Marie Petty Roller and Darla May Petty preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Dale, Eugene, Lloyd, William, Vernon, Earnest (Bernard's twin) and one sister, Eva Beckham. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his two sons, Joseph D. Petty of St. Louis, Missouri and David L. Petty and wife Marrissa of Dayton, Ohio; a daughter, Debra Petty of Loveland, Ohio. One brother, James Petty and wife Joyce of Peoria, Illinois; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Bernard Dee Petty lay in state 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2005, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Bob Theabeau officiating. Musical selections were provided by Rev. Theabeau accompanying himself on the guitar. Committal prayers and interment was in Moutray Cemetery, rural Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Rex Beckham, Rich Haug, David Petty Sr., David Petty Jr., Johnathan Petty and Richard White.
