MO Local Obituaries for the Week of April 7, 2021 Berkley Dow Alexander Berkley Dow Alexander of Bourbon, Missouri was born in Bourbon, Missouri on June 29, 1936 to Roy Erastus and Rose Lucille (Miller) Alexander and passed away Monday, March 29, 2021 at the age of 84 years. He grew up and attended and graduated from Bourbon High School. In 1954 Berkley entered into the United State Navy, where he spent the next 20 years of his life in service to our Country. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1974 and then he returned to Bourbon. Berkley married Toshika Yokoishi on June 27, 1958, in Tokyo, Japan. Berkley was employed for many years by Community Auto in Sullivan. He loved being home, cutting wood and hunting. He was preceded in death by one son, Clyde Alexander; one grandson, Cody Alexander; and his parents, Roy and Rose Alexander. He is survived by his wife, Toshiko of Bourbon, Missouri; two sons, Jim Alexander and wife Susan of Atoka, Tennessee and Eddie Alexander and wife Anna of Mountain Home, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Brandon Alexander, Jessica Gray, Brianna Alexander, Kyle Alexander, Josh Alexander, Karrisa Alexander and Robby Alexander; three great grandchildren, Xander, Kassidy and Maelynn; sister, Amie Brewington of Bourbon, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Chleo Sue Alexander Chleo Sue (Hardy) Alexander of Sullivan, Missouri was born in Sullivan, Missouri on September 20, 1933 to Charles and Edna "Pearl" (Adams) Hardy and passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the age of 87 years. She grew up in Sullivan, Missouri and graduated with the Sullivan High School, Class of 1951. Chleo married Curtis Neal Alexander of Bourbon, Missouri on February 9, 1951. She used her skills of detail and bookkeeping to help her husband run the family business, Sullivan Propane, for 30 years. She then helped her daughter at Pro-Tec Mechanical for 13 years, followed by helping her son at Alexander Propane for seven years. Chleo then retired to a life of full-time leisure - managing a rigorous schedule of card games and dominos with her many friends. Travel was also a regular part of Chleo's life. Most prized by family was Chleo serving up her famous homemade ice cream and her made-from- scratch buttermilk pancakes. Over the past 45 years, her spare time was devoted to hand stitching her "Loving Hands Quilt", a gift she created for each grandchild and great grandchild, which featured the handprints of each child's family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis N. Alexander; her parents, Charles and Edna "Pearl" Hardy; granddaughter, Christina Renee Alexander; two brothers, Charles "Bill" and James "Jim" Hardy; and one infant sister, Betty Zoe Hardy. She is survived by three sons, Curtis J. Austin Michael Davidson-Sutphen Austin Michael Davidson-Sutphen of Newark, Missouri, formerly of St. James, Missouri, was born in Rolla, Missouri on March 23, 1994 to Kevin and Melinda (Davidson) Sutphen and passed away on March 23, 2021 at the age of 27 years. Austin was raised in Rolla, Missouri and attended Rolla Public Schools. He married Julie Newsome on January 29, 2020. Austin's favorite pastime was spending his time outdoors. He enjoyed riding four-wheelers and was always up for a barbeque with his family. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Bill Sutphen and Shirley Sutphen. Jason Lynn Hewkin Jason Lynn Hewkin of Steelville, Missouri was born October 29, 1981 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lynn and Ruby Carol (nee Cole) Hewkin and passed away Monday, March 22, 2021 at the age of 39 years. He married Jennifer Boxx Hewkin on February 21, 2014. Jason was known for his kind heart and would do anything to help others. His family loved his wicked sense of humor. Jason had a beautiful singing voice just like so many of the Hewkin family. Martin of Cuba, Missouri was born on September 28, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri to Henry J. and Florence A. (Walden) Mullen and passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the age of 88 years. Bonnie Kathylene McKay Bonnie Kathylene McKay of St. James, Missouri was born in Mexico, Missouri on November 22, 1952 to Roy Glenn and Hattie Marie (Moreland) Maylee and passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 1 day. Bonnie married Donn McKay on March 25, 1986. Bonnie was a caretaker to many. Later in her life she put this characteristic of herself into helping others as she was a, Senior Companion to different people in the community. She was a big jokester and always played jokes on people. She loved gardening, her flowers brought joy to so many, she also enjoyed cooking and her family talks about her stuffing at Thanksgiving. Bonnie was seldom seen without her glass of sweet tea. She enjoyed word search puzzles, and listening to gospel music. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donn McKay; sisters, Eula Lorraine, Norma Higdon, Kay Bradshaw and Wanda McKay; brother, Vernon Dale; and grandchildren, Kaden and Macie Lane. "Gene" Thrasher was born on February 5, 1925, in Bethalto, Illinois, to Olney Edward and Lona Lea (Harlan) Thrasher and passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the age of 96 years. As a boy he attended the East Alton, Illinois Assembly of God. After marriage Rev. Thrasher was a deacon and Sunday School Superintendent in the Cottage Hills, Illinois, Assembly of God, before becoming an Assemblies of God full-time Minister. Rev. Thrasher was ordained over 55 years with the Assemblies of God, serving as Pastor at Bunker Hill and Villa Hills (Belleville), while in Illinois. He then from the ages of 65-75 became an Evangelist with his wife Elaine, traveling many states winning souls to the Lord, leading churches in Revival. At age 75 Bro. and Sis. Thrasher moved to St. James, Missouri. In Missouri, he served as Pastor at Steelville, Davisville, Ellington and Newburg, Missouri. He wrote songs and poems, and after beginning piano lessons in his late 40's he and Elaine incorporated the God given Music talent of singing and playing the piano into those Revival services. He was a World War II, Battle of the Bulge Veteran, receiving the Bronze Star, a recognition of his heroic achievement. Rev. Thrasher was a very studious Minister, and in addition, formal studies in the German Language were done at Southern Illinois University. Later, he took a Europe Missions trip with the Full Gospel Business Men. This was just the beginning to many years of further studies at home not only in the German Language but, the Spanish Language as well. All for the purpose of winning souls. He was planning a Missions trip to Germany when he had his first heart attack stopping his plans. He taught to stay full of the Holy Spirit and the importance of praying in tongues daily. The Thrasher family is represented both in Illinois and Southern Missouri Districts of the Assemblies of God. He is survived by wife, A. Elaine (Wilkins) Thrasher; three children, Rev. Mick and Sharon Thrasher of St. James, Missouri, Carol Holem of qJefferson City, Missouri and Deborah and Rev. Richard Crabb missionaries to Germany; six grandchildren, Michael and Susanne Thrasher, Stephen and Christi Holem, Joy and David Kirby, Rev. Mark and Deshae Thrasher, Carol and Matt Fitzlaff, Jonathan and JoAnn Holem; 17 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; other relatives and friends.
