Bailey was born Wednesday, April 10, 1929, in Steelville, Missouri, a son of the late George and Lydia (Lantz) Bailey. He departed this life Friday, March 28, 2003, at his home east of Steelville, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 18 days. On August 5, 1949 at Salem, Arkansas, Tom was united in marriage to Rosella Midyett, daughter of Corby and Dora Midyett. Three sons were born to this union. They have enjoyed over 53 years together. Bailey enlisted in the United States Navy April 6, 1947 and was honorably discharged March 15, 1950. During this military service he served aboard the U.S.S. Salisbury as part of the Navy's China Occupation Service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, George, Clayton, Bill and wife Ruth, Jim and Leroy Bailey; four sisters, Elizabeth and husband Vernon Kalimbah, Opal Bailey, Helen Ruth Bailey and Euna and husband Emory Futo; also brother-in-law Lloyd Midyett. Also preceded in death by Corby and Dora Midyett, father-in-law and mother-in-law. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife, Rose Bailey of Steelville, Missouri; three sons, Bruce Bailey and wife Joyce of Cuba, Missouri, Rick Bailey and wife Trina and Tim Bailey and wife Beverly all of Steelville, Missouri; two brothers, Joe Bailey and wife Velma of Rolla, Missouri and Albert Bailey and wife Mary of Mapelwood, Missouri. Sisters-in-law, Ruth (George) Bailey, Jane and husband Gus Head and Carol Midyett all of Steelville, Missouri, Gladyne and husband Bill Neuman of Doolittle, Missouri, Carol McMillen of Sullivan, Missouri; brother-in-law, Cecil Midyett of Steelville, Missouri and an aunt, Flora Short also of Steelville, Missouri. Also remaining are seven grandchildren, Marcia and husband Russ Fields, Tonya Bailey, Luke Bailey, Ben Bailey, Rusty Bailey and wife Melissa, Adam Bailey and Sammi Bailey. Four step-grandchildren, Kim Hope, Kellie Ellington, Cherie Key and Tasha Klein. Three special nephews, Gary Midyett and family, Jerry Midyett and family and Jerry Head and family; one special niece, Lesa Walker and family, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Thomas J. Bailey lay in state 4-8 p.m. Sunday March 30, 2003 in the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday March 31, 2003, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. A.F. Roberdes officiating. Rev. and Mrs. Roberdes provided musical selections. Committal prayers and interment were in Upper Indian Creek Cemetery, Viburnum, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Luke, Ben and Adam Bailey, Russ Fields, Joey and Gary Lynn Midyett. Honorary pallbearers were Marcia Fields, Tonya, Rusty and Sammi Bailey, Tasha Klein, Kevin, Melissa and Ashely Midyett. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Mary "Inez" Bell Mary "Inez" Bell nee Henderson was born Sunday, November 20, 1904 in Bloomfield, Mo. to the late Earl Henderson and Harriet Capps Henderson and departed this life Thursday, March 27, 2003 at the Christian Care Home in St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 98 years, 4 months and 7 days. Inez married Clarence Arthur Bell on January 23, 1924 in St. Louis, Mo. and to this union three children were born. Clarence passed away on May 12, 1979. She and Clarence moved to Steelville in 1968 after his retirement and she remained here until 1992 when her health failed and required her to move back to St. Louis, Mo. to be closer to her daughters. Inez loved music, she played the ukulele and enjoyed singing. Inez was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence, three sisters Alma Reddick, Irene Collier and husband Floyd, and Grace Brakefield and husband William, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Earnest Bell, Lawrence Bell and wife Nola, and Emory Bell and wife Mildred. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her loving children Robert L. Bell of Sullivan, Mo.; Doris Kerley and husband Clifford of St. Louis, Mo. and Norma Berhorst and husband Jim of St. Charles, Mo.; six grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Delmar Bell and wife Rosa of Cuba, Mo.; and Mabel Bell of Cherryville, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends, all who will fondly remember and sadly miss Mary "Inez" Bell. Visitation was held Sunday, March 30, 2003 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2003 at the Hutson Funeral Chapel in Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating. The family selected the songs, "Just a Closer Walk With Thee", and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Dan Forster, Danny Forster, Bradley Forster, Jamie Forster, Spencer Hutson, Paul Hutson. Burial was in the Steelville Cemetery in Steelville, Mo. All arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. Toney East Toney East died Friday, March 7, 2003 at the age of 88 at Ozark Manor II. Toney, son of the late George Lee and Mary Jane (Griffin) East, was born August 6, 1914, at Jewette, Missouri, in Madison County. He was graduate of Fredericktown High School, Class of 1934. He served in the Army of the United States, Head Quarters Battery, 17th Field Artillery Observation Battalion, 5th Corps Artillery as surveyor and Orographic 230. Battles and campaigns were Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe, Northern France and Ardennes Campaigns. He was awarded Five Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, entitled to wear European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Bronze Arrowhead, and Four Overseas Bars. Toney was a licensed Land Surveyor by the State of Missouri. He retired January 1, 1979, from the surveying department of the St. Joseph Lead Company of Viburnum, Missouri, with 42 years of service. After retirement spent most of his time raising registered Angus cattle on his Old Family Home place at Jewette, Missouri. Preceding Toney in death were his father January 22, 1926, his mother June 24, 1944, six brothers, Napolien J. East, October 15, 1903; Charles E. East, September 28, 1910; Lawrence Lee East, March 20, 1920; Bessie East, August 16, 1956; William Aaron East, January 1, 1968; and Phannon L. East, July 22, 1973. Also preceding him were four sisters, Lora Ann East, March 1, 1939; Cora Bell Heffernand, May 1, 1940; Stella Jane Munzy, April 8, 1979; and Mary Ruth Castens, February 16, 1991. Surviving Toney leaves only nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Toney was a member of the Methodist Church, Marcus Lodge No. 110 A.F. and A.M., Lifetime member Veterans of Foreign Wars E and J Victory Post, Fredericktown, Missouri, and the National Surveying and Mapping Society. Toney's passing was the last member of a family of eleven children. Chapel services and internment were held Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at Follis & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Statler officiating. Burial in Marcus Memorial Park, Fredricktown, Mo. under the direction of Follis & Sons Funeral Home, Fredricktown, Mo. Ednae Mae Miller Edna Mae Miller of Sullivan, Mo. passed away on March 28, 2003 at the age of 68 years, 4 months, 24 days. Ednae Mae was born on November 4, 1934 to the late Bert and Laura (Tourville) Coffman. She was preceded in death by her parents-in-law Claude and Stella (Ratliff) Miller, two sisters Arzetta (Coffman) Killian and Sharon Lea Coffman, two brothers-in-law George Killian and Jim Miller. Edna Mae married June 18, 1955 to George Miller. They made their home in Sullivan, Mo., where she worked as a licensed practical nurse and MO Nursing Home administrator. She served as President, Secretary and a board member on the local level of MO State Association of L.P.M.S. At the state level she served as second Vice-President, Secretary-Tresurer, and board member. At the national level, she served as an active member. She enjoyed the nursing profession very much up to the time of retirement. Edna Mae was also an active member of the full gospel Assembly of God Church, Sullivan, Mo.. She served as a Sunday School Superintendent, song leader, women's ministry, and wherever she was needed. She gave her heart to God and was baptized under the ministry of the late Rev. Royce Jordan of Cave Springs, Sullivan, Mo.. She was an active member of American Legion Auxiliary and disabled American Veterans Auxilliary. Surviving her are her husband George; stepson Ronald; two granddaughters, Michelle Miller and son Austin of California, Shannon (Miller) Dean and husband Harry, two great grandchildren Kadence and Jeremy of California; two brothers-in-law David and wife Betty; Stanley and wife Jane; two nephews Joe and Don Miller and families of Cuba, Mo.. Sister-in-law Judy Miller of Sullivan, Mo.; nieces Nancy Fitzpatrick of New Jersey; Linda (Killian) Morgan and husband Burt and three sons Chris, Tyler and Casey of Michigan; Kathy (Killian) Gruver and husband Ted, one daughter Beth Ann (Gruver) Smith and husband Tony, two daughters Ally and Avery and one son, Gavin. Jan (Killian) Clark and husband Mitch, two children Kelsie and Kyle, nephews Jay Killian and wife Tammy, two daughters Jennifer and Kayla; Jeff Killian and wife Michelle, two sons, Alex and Ethan. One very special lady Polly Killian, all of Indiana. Aunt Louise Dotson, daughter Martha (Dotson) Epolito and husband John; one daughter Mary and husband David, two sons Magnus and Will and one daughter Dawn all of Kansas City, Mo., other relatives and many friends. Edna Mae Miller was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. on Saturday, March 29, 2003. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 30, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the the Full Gospel Assembly of God Church, Sullivan, Mo. with Rev. Dale Graham officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sullivan, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Granvil Spurgeon Granvil Lowell Spurgeon, of Owensville, died Sat., March 29, 2003 at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City. He was 84 years old. He was born May 23, 1918, in Jake's Prairie, Mo., a son of Lowell Alvie and Mabel Dueker Spurgeon. He married Celesta Hendrickson on April 2, 1942, in Steelville, and she survives. In addition to his wife Celesta, he is also survived by three daughters, Marie Horstman and her husband Albert, of Gerald, Mo, Arlene Luecke and her husband Dennis, of Odessa, Tex., and Eva Lee West and her husband Gary, Owensville, Mo.; one brother, Eugene Spurgeon and his wife Ruth, of Cuba, Mo.; ten grandchildren, Rick Horstman, Tammy Quick, Pam Bramel, Jeff West, Terry Luecke, Cindy McLaughlin, Tina Farmer, Troy Luecke, Christina Smith, and Marcia Bridgeford; and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one great grandson, Justin Farmer. Mr. Spurgeon was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Services were held April 1, 2003 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Leo Roberson officiating. Burial was in the Bowen Cemetery in Red Bird. Arrangements were made under the direction of Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville. Martha M. Williams Martha May Williams nee Palmer of Cuba, Mo. was born to James Palmer and Emma Miller Palmer on June 5, 1913 in Salina, KS. She passed away at Life Care Center in Sullivan, Mo. on March 27, 2003 at the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 22 days. Martha was married to Walter B. Williams in Salem, Mo. on August 29, 1930 and to this union six sons were born. Martha was a homemaker and loved to embroider, crochet, quilt and make crafts. She also spent a lot of time gardening and working in her flower beds. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter; two sons Roy and Jimmy; brothers and sisters, Harry, Purl, Jimmy, Harvey, Virginia, Mildred, Nettie, and Jane. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her sons: Max Williams (Ruth) of Springfield, Ill., Rex Williams (Kathleen) of Sullivan, Mo., Harry Williams (Barbara), and Kenneth Williams ( Mary) all of Florissant, Mo.; sister-in-law Marge Palmer of Cuba, Mo.; 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 17 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, many relatives and friends. Visitation was 6-9 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2003 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Mo. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Mo. with Rev. Eric Smith officiating. Burial was at Jadwin Cemetery, Salem, Mo. with pallbearers Ronald, Donald, and Scott Williams, Noel Chandler, Tammie Bury, and Tabitha Jones.
