MO Local Obituaries for the Week of April 10, 2013 Phillip Christopher Ariola Phillip Christopher Ariola of Steelville, Missouri was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on Tuesday, December 25, 1951 to Joseph and Dorothy Caldwell Ariola and passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in his home at the age of 61 years, 3 months and 8 days. He was a carpenter in residential construction most of his adult life and most recently worked for the Rafting Company in Steelville, Missouri. In his younger years, he loved to surf while living in California and Florida. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the outdoors. Phillip was a very generous man. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy Ariola; brother, Michael Ariola and sister, Janet Ariola. He is survived by his children, Thomas (Carolyn) Ariola of Glendale, Arizona, Jennifer Ariola of Phoenix, Arizona and James Ariola of Yuman, Arizona; sister, Paula Ariola of Steelville, Missouri; sister-in-law, Lilian Ariola of Phoenix, Arizona; eight grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Bernice Carl Bernice Carl, nee Chandler, of Steelville, Missouri was born on Saturday, January 16, 1937 in Davisville, Missouri to Estel M. and Gertrude Mae Brummet Chandler and passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 19 days. Bernice married Marvin Carl on October 8, 1958 in Cuba, Missouri. She worked a few years at Brown Shoe Industry in Steelville, Missouri then later worked as a caregiver for many families. Her hobbies were embroidering, listening to country music and also Elvis. She enjoyed writing letters, working word puzzles and spending time with her dog “Baby Girl.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Estel and Gertrude Chandler; husband, Marvin Carl; brothers and sisters, Homer, Lloyd, Doanie, Thelma and Owen Chandler, Homer Whittaker, Elmer (Mabel) Whittaker, Delmar (Bessie) Whittaker, Floyd (Goldie) Chandler, and Leona (Jim) Keasling; and brother-in-law, Jerry Seal. She is survived by her children, Debbie (Jim) Goers, Ron (Angie) Carl and Roger (Vicki) Carl, all of Steelville, Missouri; step-son, Leroy Carl of Steelville, Missouri; step-daughter, Beverly Dodson of Park Hills, Missouri; brother, Cleo (Jan) Chandler of Steelville, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Pat “Luddie” Chandler of Cuba, Missouri, Bonnie (Tom) Plank of Park Hills, Missouri and Dell Seal of Piedmont, Missouri; grandchildren, J.W., Doug, Roger, Chrissy, Ashley, Amber and Cody; great grandchildren, Eli, Josh, Chase and Kaylee; other relatives and friends. Russell “Rusty” Gray Russell “Rusty” Gray of Cuba, Missouri was born on Monday, April 2, 1962 in St. Louis, Missouri to Russell E. and Bertha Virginia Starks Gray and passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the age of 51 years. Before retirement, Rusty worked mostly in Louisiana for several different contractors in commercial and residential construction as a drywall finisher. His hobbies were fishing, camping, being outdoors and especially gardening. He had a green thumb for growing indoor and outdoor plants. He was a happy, friendly, outgoing, carefree guy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Bertha Gray; niece, Danielle Renee Gray; and several aunts and uncles. Charles Larry Holtz Charles Larry Holtz of Cuba, Missouri was born July 22, 1944 at Kirkwood, Missouri to Charles D. “Bud” and Virginia (Mitchell) Holtz and passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 68 years. Larry proudly served in the United States Army. He worked most of his life as a Tool & Dye Maker finishing his career at Gen Corporation. He enjoyed working on the farm, gardening, tractors, putting up hay, hunting and his dogs Casper, Mickey, Little Bit, Squirrel, Jessie and Snow. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Virginia Holtz; one grandson, Charles Matthew Holtz and former wife, Connie Marlene Hager. Louis Silas Hughes Louis Silas Hughes of Cuba, Missouri was born on Saturday, September 2, 1933 in Rosati, Missouri to Louis H. Jr. and Ollie Rae Laycock Hughes and passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 30 days. Louis served his country honorably on an aircraft carrier in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He married Earline Irene Roop on August 1, 1964 in Oak Grove, Missouri and to this union five children were born. He worked in highway construction as a drill operator for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading books and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Jr. and Ollie Hughes; wife, Earline; brother, Audrey Hughes; brothers-in-law, Henry Isgriggs, Harvey Rodgers and Richard Roop. He is survived by his children, John B.
