Emma Ruth Cook
Emma Ruth Cook nee Turner was born Wednesday, November 25, 1925 at
Independence, Mo., a daughter of the late John H. Turner and Tiny Idell
Turner (nee Lentz). She departed this life Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at The
Baptist Home, Ironton, Mo., at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 8 days.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Ironton, Mo.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her brothers and sisters,
Mary Josephine Koehler and Robert Eugene Turner and wife Peggy, all of
Independence, Mo., Buford Lee Turner and wife Lillian and Charles Dale
Turner and wife Mary, all of Ironton, Mo., George William Turner and wife
Judy of Plainfield, Indiana.
Margaret Louise Redburn and husband Charles of St. James, Mo., Ada Jewell
Greenwalt and husband Melvin, and Elsie Mae Stites, all of Steelville, Mo.,
Elizabeth Wynn and companion Paul Schwent of Cuba, Mo. and Arthur Lee Gray
and wife Ufa of Raytown, Mo.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews,
other relatives and many friends.
Emma Ruth Cook lay in state 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2002, in the Briton
Chapel with Rev. Tommy Harper officiating. Kathy Spurling and Marcina
Redburn provided musical selections.
Committal prayers and interment were in Barnicle Chapel Cemetery,
Steelville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Rodney Greenwalt, Alan Redburn,
Carl Redburn, Tim Stites, Tony Turner and Justin Wynn.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Juanita Hubbs
Juanita Burns Hubbs of Cuba, Mo., was born on May 14, 1913 to James Oliver
Burns and Elizabeth Sharp Burns in Dent County, Mo. She passed away Sunday,
March 31, 2002 in Mo. Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 88
years, 10 months and 17 days.
Juanita married Clyde "Pete" Hubbs at the bride's home, 4514 Arco Ave., St.
Louis, Mo. on October 13, 1935.
She was employed at Huttig Sash and Door as a receptionist/clerk and
retired in 1975. For more than 50 years, Juanita was a member of Tower
Grove Baptist Church, St. Louis, Mo. where she sang in the choir, worked
with primary children in Sunday School, served on the kitchen committee,
and even bowled on the church bowling league.
The family cherishes memories of Juanita always making several pies at
Christmas dinners and other celebrations at her home. She also hosted the
annual March quail dinner for her brothers and sisters-in-laws. Juanita
enjoyed crocheting, knitting, making quilts, and traveling with her
husband. In 1989, she moved to Cuba, Mo. and was a member of First Baptist
Church, Cuba.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers
Allen Burns and wife Irene, Coy Burns and wife Mildred, Kissel Burns and
wife Estelle.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her dear nieces, Bernie Phillips
and husband Jerry of O'Fallon, Mo., Carolyn Duggin of Des Peres, Mo.,
Maxine Shults of Rolla, Mo., and Sue Sternfels and husband Art of St. Louis
County; brother and sister-in-laws Samuel Hubbs and wife Lillian of Eldon,
Mo., Mildred Cohen of Lebanon, Illinois, and Lois Hubbs of Salem, Mo.;
great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and many friends who will
sadly miss and remember Juanita Hubbs.
Visitation was Wednesday, April 3, 2002 from 9-11 a.m. at Hutson Funeral
Home, Cuba, Mo.
Funeral services were Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Hutson
Funeral Chapel, Cuba, Mo. with Bro. Bob Houchins officiating. The hymns "It
is Well" and "My Tribute" were sung by Valerie Hutson.
Burial was at Laurel Hill Memorial Garden, St. Louis, Mo. with pallbearers
Todd Phillips, Derek Phillips, Art Sternfels, Mark Wheatley, and Ryan
Wheatley.
All arrangements were under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Mo.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Cuba, Mo. or the Gideon
Bible Society.
Michael Patrick Ryle
Michael Patrick Ryle was born on November 12, 1941 to the union of Thomas
Ryle and Ann (Borich) Ryle in St. Louis, Mo. and passed away at his home in
Cuba, Mo. on April 5, 2002 at the age of 60 years, 4 months and 23 days
after being fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church.
Mike was the beloved husband and life-long companion of Virginia (Jinny)
for 40 years; the loving father of Kelley Marie (Stephen) Paulus, Timothy
Patrick (Sue) Ryle, Thomas Paul Ryle and Margaret "Meg" Ann Ryle; the
adoring grandfather of Erin Marie and Ty Michael Sturgess, Jackson Matthew,
Quinn Margaret, Scout Morgan Paulus and Max Patrick Ryle; dear son of Ann
Ryle; son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, fun-loving uncle of his nieces
and nephews and good friend to many. Mike will be missed by his many
friends, but his memory will be cherished.
Mike was born in St. Louis but has called Cuba and Crawford County home for
35 years. Mike graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia College
of Agriculture in 1964 and was employed by a U.S. Government agency which
transferred the Ryle family to Crawford County in 1966. During the 1970s
and '80s Mike owned and operated Ryle's Sporting Goods and in the last 20
years has been an independent real estate appraiser. Mike was a member of
the Board of Directors of the UMC College of Agriculture Alumni Association
and a faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Mike was an avid
hunter, loved to fish and could spend many an hour spinning yarns with his
hunting and fishing buddies.
Mike was in state at the Britton Funeral Home in Cuba, Mo. Funeral services
were conducted at 11 a.m. on April 8, 2002 at Holy Cross Church with Father
Bob Duesdieker officiating. Interment was in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
Honoring Mike as pallbearers were Jerry Stanley, Kenny Wood, Douglas Rutz,
L. Patrick Reynolds, Don Hale, Lenny Staples and W. D. (Bill) Mullen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner's Hospital, 2001 South
Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63131. All arrangements under the direction
of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Rickey Lee Williams
Rickey Lee Williams of Cuba, Mo. was born on July 24, 1948 at Leachville,
Arkansas to the union of Vernon Williams and Miranda (McCullar) Williams
and passed away on April 1, 2002 at Cuba, Mo. at the age of 53 years, 8
months and 7 days.
On April 28, 1984 Rickey was united in marriage to Carol McMillian at
Arbyrd, Mo. One son, Clayton, was born to this union. Rickey and Carol have
been happily married for 18 years.
Rickey was a Vietnam veteran and served two tours of duty in Vietnam with
the United States Army.
Rickey was a very strong minded person, would voice his opinion, tell you
the way he thought it should be, but underneath he was a very soft-hearted
and understanding person.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife
Carol Williams; two sons, Clayton Leroy Williams and Steven Smith and wife
Rebecca; parents Vernon and Miranda Williams; two brothers, Barry Sadler
and wife Shirley and Freddy Williams and wife Pamela; one sister Brenda
Duty and husband Roger; two granddaughters; nieces; nephews; cousins; other
relatives and many friends.
Rickey was a devoted husband, loving father, son, brother, grandfather,
uncle, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Rickey Lee Williams was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
where funeral services were held on Thursday, April 4, 2002 at 1:30 p.m.
with Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Interment was in the McMillian
Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
