MO Local Obituaries for the Week of April 12, 2001 Shirley Mildred Collier Shirley Mildred Collier, of Irving, Texas, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 31, 2001 at the age of 56. Shirley was born in St. Louis on March 1, 1945 to the late Harry L. and Mildred (Setzer) Hogan. She grew up in Cherryville, Mo. and graduated from Steelville High School. Mrs. Collier was a longtime resident of Irving, Texas. She was a former secretary for First United Methodist Church and Arlington Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tartan Walker Collier; she will be missed by her surviving family which includes three sons, Tartan Christopher Collier, of Anchorage, Alaska, Timothy Collier, of Denton, Texas, and Travis Colby Collier of Los Angeles, California. Three grandchildren; stepmother, Jenny Hogan, of Cherryville; mother-in-law, Ella Collier, of Rolla. Four sisters, Dorma Lee Morrison, of Bourbon, Mo., Linda Collier, of Sullivan, Mo., Claudia Ruth Dildine, of St. Clair, Mo., and Fern Evelyn Bryan, of Fayette, Mo. Four brothers, Terry Dale Hogan, of Boss, Mo., Michael Paul Hogan, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Perle "Butch" Avery, of Bourbon, Mo., and Clarence Eugene "Gene" Avery of Leasburg, Mo. Funeral services for Shirley Collier were held at 2 Thursday, April 5, 2001 at the Null & Son Funeral Home. Interment followed the service in Ozark Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rolla. Visitation for family and friends were held prior to the service on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. until time of service. Arrangements were under the care of the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Florence M. Pinnell Florence M. Pinnell nee Menz of Cuba, Mo. was born on September 9, 1932 at Valley Park, Mo. to the union of John N. Menz and Mary Menz nee Koeble and passed away on April 2, 2001 at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 23 days. On August 2, 1948 Florence was united in marriage to Frank C. Pinnell at Cuba, Mo. They were happily married until he preceded her in death on August 1, 1991. Florence was also preceded in death by her parents, four infants, one son George W. Pinnell, son-in-law Lewis Witte and two brothers, John Menz and Donald Menz. Florence was a long time resident of Crawford County and devoted her life to raising her family. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her one son Larry Pinnell and wife Helen; one daughter Alice Witte Hammond and husband Gene; daughter-in-law Joyce Hamilton and husband Tim; three brothers Louis Menz and wife Margaret, Tom Menz and wife Lee and Gene Menz and wife Sue; three sisters Rosie Hamilton and husband Ed, Catherine Lackaner and husband Fred and Mary Anne McPherson and husband Lee; sister-in-law Mary Lou Menz; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends. Florence was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Florence M. Evelyn Lorene Seyer Evelyn Lorene Seyer nee Nevins of Cuba, Mo. was born on June 12, 1918 at St. Louis, Mo. to the union of Charles William Nevins and Julia Nevins nee Reed and passed away on April 2, 2001 at DePaul Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 20 days. On August 24, 1940 she was united in marriage to Walter Seyer in St. Louis, Mo. They were happily married until he preceded her in death on February 12, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Clyde, Fred, Robert and Pete Nevins. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving sister Elinor McCarty; nieces; nephews; sister-in-law; great nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Evelyn was a devoted wife, loving sister, sister-in-law, aunt, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Evelyn Lorene Seyer nee Nevins was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 5, 2001 at 8 p.m. with Rev. Mike Hannah officiating. Interment was in the Laurel Hills Cemetery of St. Louis, Mo. All arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Gilbert E. Simmons Gilbert E. Simmons of Cuba, Mo. passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2001 at the age of 80 years. Mr. Simmons was born on May 13, 1920 in Sullivan, Mo. to the late Edward and Rosetta (Immekus) Simmons. He was raised in Sullivan, and continued to live in the Sullivan area throughout his entire life. In 1941 Gilbert joined the United States Marine Corp, and served his country during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1945. On June 25, 1947 he was united in marriage to Genevie Witt in Crawford County, Mo. and to this union five children were born. Mr. Simmons worked as a heavy equipment operator for Winston Harmon for several years, and then for the Water Department of the City of Sullivan for over thirty years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, talking to family and friends, and especially found pleasure in working on tractors. Gilbert will be remembered and cherished as a man who was dedicated to his job, dedicated to the Marine Corps and the defense of his country, and extremely dedicated to his family. He is survived by his wife, Genevie Simmons of Cuba; two sons, Carl Simmons and wife, Peggy, of Bourbon, Mo. and Dan Simmons and wife Carol of Sullivan, Mo.; three daughters, Jean Fife and husband Tom of Leasburg, Diann Crump and husband Ward of Bourbon, and Connie Shelton and husband Duane of Bourbon; nine grandchildren, T. J. Fife of Kansas City, Mo., Dena Carroll, Caren Cain, and Jeff Simmons, all of Sullivan, Jenifer Harmon, Chris Crump, Derrick Martin, Veronica Shelton, and Lucas Shelton, all of Bourbon. Seven great-grandchildren, Shad Cain of Jefferson City, Mo., Adam Bass of Kansas City, Mo., Kamron Simmons, Lexi Fletcher and Holden Carroll, all of Sullivan, Kyler Crump and Sydney Harmon, both of Bourbon; one great-great-grandchild, Makoy Cain of Jefferson City; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by five brothers, Albert, Archie, Charlie, Clark and Clifford Simmons, and four sisters, Fannie and Cecil Farris, Hattie Nappier, and Ida Brown. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 from the Chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Devin Haus officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery. John Thomas Simpson John Thomas Simpson was born Wednesday, August 7, 1918, in Bangert, Mo., a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Simpson and Margaret Ann (Blackwell) Simpson. He passed away Sunday, April 1, 2001 at the home of his daughter, Ruby Christisen, Cuba, Mo., at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 25 days. On December 2, 1938, in Steelville, Mo., at the home of Rev. Sam Roper, John was united in marriage to Arnetti Lillie Land, daughter of Clarence "Pete" and Sara Lou (Oxendine) Land. Four sons and three daughters were born to this union. Lillie preceded him in death as did one son, Dale Allen Simpson. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Leonard, Roy, Walter and Ernest Simpson, and six sisters, Zella Smith, Mary Ethel Graham, Nora, Imogene, Rosie, and one as an infant. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are three sons, John Simpson and friend Mary Otto, Joseph Simpson and wife Deborah, all of Owensville, Mo., and Dennis Simpson of Steelville, Mo.; three daughters, Ruby and husband David Christisen, Ruth and husband Elgie Hill, all of Cuba, Mo. and Betty Sterling of Steelville, Mo. Daughter-in-law Elizabeth Simpson of Cuba, Mo.; one brother Jimmy Simpson of Salem, Mo.; two sisters-in-law Mabel (Mrs. Leonard) Simpson of Cuba, Mo., and Bell (Mrs. Walter) Simpson of Mexico, Mo.; thirty-one grandchildren, fifty great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. John Thomas Simpson lay in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2001, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Bob Coleman officiating. Musical selections were provided by Dennis Simpson, Jr., Carol and Rev. Bob Coleman. Committal prayers and interment were in Frazier Cemetery, Salem, Mo. Pallbearers were Carl Baker, J. T. Ransom, Jim Scott, Dennis Simpson, Richard Simpson and Zach Sterling. Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Sue Ann Starr Sue Ann Starr nee Skeel of Cuba, Mo. was born on February 19, 1936 at St. Louis, Mo. to the union of Clarence Skeel and Catherine Skeel nee Ollie and passed away on April 3, 2001 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center of Rolla, Mo. at the age of 65 years, 1 month and 14 days. On December 2, 1961 she was united in marriage to Carl "Tom" Starr at St. Louis, Mo. One son, Thomas, and two daughters, Victoria and Kristine were born to this union. They were happily married until Sue passed away. After retiring Sue and Tom moved to the Indian Hills Lake Community and have since made that their home. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her devoted husband Carl "Tom" Starr; one son Thomas Starr and wife Michelle; two daughters Victoria Dieterman and husband Chris and Kristine Louks and husband Ken; one brother Eddy Skeel and wife Karen; one sister Irene Nordeck and husband Jim; six grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Memorial services for Sue Ann Starr were held on Friday, April 6, 2001 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mike Hannah officiating. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Lynwood George Trask Lynwood George Trask, of Springfield, formerly of Steelville, passed away March 18, 2001 at the age of 87 years. Mr. Trask was born September 30, 1913, at Huzzah, to George and Ethel McMillen Trask. Mr. Trask was a retired truck driver and was fondly nicknamed "Smitty" by his fellow truck drivers. He was a member of the Church of God where he taught Sunday School and acted as treasurer. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Survivors are his wife G. Fay Altic Trask, Pleasant Hope, Mo., and four children, Lynwood G. Trask, Jr., and wife Sherri, New Orleans, Louisiana; Harriet Arnold and husband Ralph of Springfield, Mo.; Susan Cartwright and husband Frosty, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Chris Trask and wife Jewelle, Green Forest, Arkansas. He was also survived by his brothers, Cordell Trask of Potosi and Malcom (Pete) Trask of Afton, Oklahoma and a sister, Erma Lea Trask Meintz of Steelville, Mo. He had nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Francis Trask Nethington and Madge Trask Nedington, grandson Talbert Trask, a brother Leslie Trask and his first wife Betty Hansen Trask Clark. Services were at 10 a.m. March 22, 2001 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield. Burial was in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Franklin Leo Ware Franklin Leo Ware was born Monday, August 11, 1919, at Cuba, Mo., a son of the late Robert Earl Ware and Margaret "Maggie" (Eliston) Ware. He departed this life Monday, April 2, 2001, at his home on White River Road, Cherryville, Mo., at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 22 days. On April 1, 1942, at Steelville, Mo., Franklin was united in marriage to Fannie Marie Lea, daughter of Eddie and Pearl (Collier) Lea. They have been blessed with five sons and one daughter. The day before his death was their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, James Ware and wife Hester and two sisters, Alice Ware (at age two years) and Eva and husband Herb Stewart, sisters-in-law Clio Mrieta Ware, Gladys and husband Floyd Green. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Fannie of the home; five sons and one daughter, Jessie Leonard Ware of Bourbon, Mo., Curtis Leo Ware and wife Grace, Virvine George Ware and wife Martha, all of Cherryville, Mo., Judy Marie and husband Jim Loveless of Cuba, Mo., William (Bill) Franklin Ware and wife Marilyn of Steelville, Mo. One brother Kenneth Ware and wife Dorothy of Davisville, Mo.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Mildred Pyatt of Cuba, Mo., Lorene and Albert Martin of Steelville, Mo.; nineteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Franklin Leo Ware lay in state 3-9 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2001 in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Harry White officiating. Musical selection were provided by Carol and Bob Coleman. Committal prayers and interment were in Delhi Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. Honoring their grandfather as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were Shannon Ware, Chance Reeves, Curtis Lee Ware, Rodney Ware, Travis Ware, Randy Ware, Cody Ware, Scot Ware, Mike Ware, Shawn Ware, Jeffrey Ware, Robbie Ware and Clayton Reeves.
