MO Local Obituaries for the Week of April 15, 2020 Junior Harms Campbell Junior Harms Campbell, formerly of Sullivan, Missouri, was born December 20, 1924 in Sullivan to Fred and Myrtle (nee Griffith) Campbell and passed away Friday, April 3, 2020 at the age of 95 years. He spent his entire life in the Bourbon/Sullivan, Missouri communities. Junior served in the US Army during the World War II era, remaining stateside. He married Betty (nee Simmerly) in July of 1948. Junior worked at Midwest Footwear in Sullivan, Missouri until their closing. He had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, fishing and all types of hunting, including quail hunting with his bird dogs. He was also an avid pool player. In his later years, he was known as "George" by many in Sullivan, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Fred and Myrtle Campbell; and son-in-law, Gerald Johns. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Johns of Villa Ridge, Missouri; sister-in-law, Dean Beyreis of Bourbon, Missouri; niece, Cindy Crider and husband Garry of Bourbon, Missouri; nephew, Bob Beyreis and wife, Peggy of Bourbon, Missouri; great nieces, Randi Crider, Amanda Crider and Andrea Crider, all of Bourbon, Missouri; great great nephew and niece, Alex Parker and Kami Hamann; other relatives and friends. Private graveside service was held Thursday, April 9, 2020 at the Bourbon Cemetery with Pastor Alicia Fischer officiating. Albert "Al" Charles Engelbrecht Jr. Albert "Al" Charles Engelbrecht Jr. of Steelville, Missouri was born in St. Louis on March 22, 1941 to Albert Charles Sr. and Lorraine Elizabeth Harmon Engelbrecht and passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at the age of 79 years and 17 days. On April 20, 1963 in Clayton, Missouri Al married Alice Kitchell. Al and Alice purchased some land in Crawford County several years ago for their retirement. However, they decided to move sooner than planned, so in 1976 Crawford County became their new home. While in St. Louis, Missouri Al worked eight years as a St. Louis city policeman and later after moving ran for Sheriff of Crawford County. He was employed as the sheriff for 16 years before retiring in 2005. He was a graduate of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Academy. Al was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus with a 4th degree, Missouri Sheriff's Association, National Sheriff's Association, Crawford County Republicans and a lifetime member of the NRA. Al loved animals and took time to raise pigs and cattle with their horses and have pets such as Abby the dog and Sammy the cat. He also enjoyed doing some carpentry work. After retiring, Al and Alice spent many hours traveling throughout America in their fifth-wheel. They spent three months going to Alaska and the west coast. In the winters, they enjoyed their time in Rockport, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lorraine Engelbrecht. He is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Alice Engelbrecht of Steelville, Missouri; one son, Albert "Al" (Donna) Engelbrecht III of Steelville, Missouri; one daughter, Christine "Chris" (Bo) Weaver of Steelville, Missouri; one brother, Vernon Michael Engelbrecht of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Cheryl Lee (Steven) Deen of St. Louis, Missouri; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Nina Delight McPherson Nina Delight McPherson of Cherryville, Missouri was born December 6, 1930 in Cherryville, Missouri to James and Eura Halbert Conaway and passed away Friday, April 10, 2020 at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 4 days. On January 23, 1968 at the Crawford County courthouse, Nina married Clarence "Dail" McPherson. She had attended Center Ridge Pentecostal Church at one time. Nina was one of the founders of the Ozark Trail Blazers. She loved her horses and rode in the Harvest Festival Parade for many years. Nina enjoyed farming, raising chickens, ducks, geese, cows and goats. She spent many years living and working on the farm that she shared with Dail and their family. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Eura Conaway; and husband Dail McPherson. She is survived by her son, Matthew Dail (Billie) McPherson of Steelville, Missouri; one daughter, Jimalee Deann McPherson of Cherryville, Missouri; two grandchildren, Madalyn McPherson of Steelville, Missouri and Josh (Amber) Whitman of Cuba, Missouri; one great granddaughter, Clara Marie Whitman; other relatives and friends. The family chose cremation as the final disposition. There will be a Celebration of Life service at a later date. Georgia Mae Mitchell Georgia Mae Mitchell (nee Summers) of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Steelville, Missouri, was born June 30, 1933 on the Summers' farm in Crawford County, Missouri to Clarence and Katherine Mullen Summers and passed away Friday, April 3, 2020 at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 4 days. Georgia moved away from her hometown to Kansas City a few years after graduating in 1951 from Steelville High School and where she met her future husband, Levi Mitchell, who was stationed in the Navy at the time. On October 28, 1956, Georgia married Levi Mitchell. After Levi retired from the Navy, they moved back to Crawford County and Georgia became employed at the local Peoples Bank retiring from there in 1993. Georgia attended the Steelville Presbyterian Church and was very involved in the Steelville Ambulance District in which she was a member and the president of the board of directors for a number of years. While serving on the board, her major concern was the financial condition of the ambulance district where her frugalness helped keep it intact. Georgia was an avid reader and in later years enjoyed doing puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Katherine Summers; husband, Levi B. Mitchell; one sister, Betty (Windell) Bryan; and brothers-in-law, Richard "Dick" McInnis and Louis Picarella. She is survived by her son, Mark (Sherry) Mitchell of Germantown, Tennessee; one daughter, Nanette (Mitch) Dean of Lakeland, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Christopher (Wen-Xi) Pitts, Taylor Pitts and Matthew Mitchell; two great grandchildren, Alexa and Aubrey Pitts; one brother, John (Joan) Summers of Cedar Hill, Missouri; two sisters, Clara Jo Picarella of Festus, Missouri and Beverly McInnis of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Russell James Otis Russell James Otis, AKA "Vichy 120", of Rolla, Missouri was born on July 6, 1956 in Rolla, Missouri to Raymond T. and Flora Mae (Riley) Otis and passed away Friday, April 10, 2020 at the age of 63 years. On November 23, 2018, he married Sheila (Matthews) Otis in Vichy, Missouri. Russ was a concrete truck driver for Weiberg Red-E-Mix in Vichy, Missouri. In addition to living in Rolla, Missouri, Russell also lived in Vichy, Missouri. He was a volunteer fire fighter with the Vichy Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years and also served on the VVFD Board of Directors. Even after moving to Rolla, Missouri Russell remained active with the VVFD. Russell's passion was fundraising for the VVFD. He could always be found cooking for fundraiser dinners and VVFD auctions food trailer. Russ enjoyed hunting and fishing, competing and watching rodeos, and horseback riding. He loved anything to do with the outdoors. He was a member of the Vichy Community Church with a very strong Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Flora Otis; and grandparents, Noah and Lulu (Hart) Otis and Lloyd and Ethel (Cox) Riley. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Otis of Rolla, Missouri; one brother, Larry Otis and wife Dawn of Imperial, Missouri; step daughter, Kim (Monroe) Hoover and husband, Darren of Tibbets, Missouri; two granddaughters, Hannah and Peyton Hoover of Tibbets, Missouri; two nephews, Richard Otis and wife Angelia of Cedar Hill, Missouri and David Otis of Imperial, Missouri; great nephew, Joshua of Chaffee, Missouri and niece still to be born; two sisters-in-law, Linda Peachy of West Plains, Missouri and Brenda Chambers and husband Don of Vichy, Missouri; brother-in-law, Kenneth Matthews and wife Karen of Newburg, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Percy W. Pascoe Jr. Percy W. Pascoe Jr. of Cuba, Missouri was born on Friday, January 31, 1930 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Percy Pascoe Sr. and Oma Mae (nee Grizzle) Pascoe and passed away on Monday, April 06, 2020 at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 6 days. Percy attended Beaumont High School in St. Louis, Missouri then worked at Central States Paper and Bag Co. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 during the Korean War and completed Air Traffic Control School in Biloxi, Mississippi where he was promoted to Corporal. He served at Tempelhoff Air Force Base in Berlin, Germany serving in three different levels of air traffic control and was promoted to Sergeant. He was sent to Laredo, Texas Air Force Base where he was honorably discharged as Staff Sergeant in 1955. Following his time in the armed forces, Percy attended Southwest Printing School in Dallas, Texas and became printer at the Crawford Mirror in Steelville, Missouri from 1956-1960. Working for the Crawford Mirror Percy discovered his passion for community journalism and the written word. In 1960 Percy started "The Cuba Free Press," a new weekly newspaper in Cuba, Missouri. The "Cuba Free Press" was designated a Blue Ribbon Newspaper in Missouri and nationally. Over his 42 years as editor and publisher of the Cuba Free Press, he earned more than 90 awards in journalism, included being inducted into the Missouri Press Association Hall of Fame in 2005. In 1980 Percy created the "Steelville Star," a new weekly newspaper in Steelville, Missouri. Percy retired in 2002. Percy served many organizations over the years. He was co-organizer of the Cuba Arts Council 1962 (prior to Missouri Arts Council); charter member of Viva Cuba Community Improvement Committee; past president member and former president of Crawford County Historical Society; member of the original Cuba Airport Committee, member of the second Airport Committee; served on board of the Cuba Senior Center; Past President of Cuba Chamber of Commerce; named Cuba Chamber of Commerce Pioneer of the Year Award, 1998; Member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Cuba Christian Church. In his free time Percy was an avid gardener and woodworker. He was known throughout his family for producing handmade and often humorous wooden items for holiday gifts. He loved nature, history and reading and even after retirement from the newspaper world, he never stopped writing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy Sr. and Oma Pascoe; daughter, Rebecca Farmer; step daughter, Brenda Conrad; son-in-law, Mark Wieler; and grandson, Bill Harris. He is survived by his wife, Delma Pascoe of Cuba, Missouri; son, Willard (Joan) Pascoe of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter, Rachel Wieler of Sullivan, Missouri; step daughters, Jean Summers of Sullivan, Missouri and Sherry (Wayne) Wycoff of St. James, Missouri; son-in-law, Kent Conrad of Kansas City, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. A private visitation was held at the Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri and a private graveside service was held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 with Pastor Josh Sanders officiating.
