Wanda Belle Bunton
Wanda Belle Bunton of Bourbon, Missouri was born on January 2, 1939 in
St. Louis County to Ernest P. and Bonnie E. (Cossairt) Hess and passed away
at her home on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the age of 73 years.
She was a life-long resident of the Bourbon area and was later married to
James A. Bunton. This union was blessed by four children but ended in
divorce. Wanda the married Vernon “Bud” Bunton.
She was known as a good Christian woman and was always willing to lend a
helping hand when you needed her. Wanda was a member of the Assembly of
God in Bourbon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents, Ernest
and Bonnie Hess and a son, Dennis Bunton.
She is survived by two sons, James “Yogi” Bunton of Bourbon, Missouri and
Ernie Bunton and wife Joan of Steelville, Missouri; one daughter, Linda
Pennock and husband Lonnie of Bourbon, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Norma
Bunton of Bourbon, Missouri; five sisters, Bonnie Ann Dorsett of Ballwin,
Missouri, Dean Issgriggs of Manchester, Missouri, Emma Denaro and husband
Junior of Sullivan, Missouri, Phyllis Pennock and husband Norbert of
Bourbon, Missouri and Bertha Gargus and husband Bob of Bourbon, Missouri;
six grandchildren, Mike Bunton and girlfriend Krystal Rodriguez, Shadee
and Shahin Shahsavaran, Justin and Shane Bunton and Faith Brown; several
great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. a.m. at
the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon, Missouri.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11 a.m.
from the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon, Missouri with Pastor Derick
Ruble officiating.
Interment was in the Warren Cemetery, Owensville, Missouri. Arrangements
under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home in Bourbon,
Missouri.
Lena Pearl Cummings
Lena Pearl Cummings of Sullivan, Missouri formerly of Cuba, Missouri and
the Steelville, Missouri area was born Wednesday, April 4, 1906 at
Clemtown, West Virginia to Osten W. and Rose (nee Farance) Weaver and
passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Life Care Center in Sullivan,
Missouri at the age of 106 years and 3 days.
Lena was united in marriage to Otto Lloyd Cummings on February 27, 1926 at
Brownstown, Indiana.
Lena worked for 18 years at Brown Shoe Company in Steelville before
retiring in 1969. She was known for her wonderful cooking and she baked
amazing pies and bread. She was very unselfish and always took care of
everyone, from family to neighbors. She enjoyed hunting, camping, playing
solitaire with her morning coffee and could sew anything from clothing for
her children to wedding dresses. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Osten and Rose Weaver; husband, Otto Cummings; one daughter, Beverly
Guthrie; three sons-in-law, Ivan Umberger, Phil Guthrie and Vic Hawkins;
one daughter-in-law, Lea Cummings; six sisters; five brothers; two
grandsons; one granddaughter; four great grandchildren; three great
great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She is survived by her children, Betta Cassidy of Steelville, Missouri,
Robert “Bud” Cummings and friend Mary of Steelville, Missouri, Nora Hawkins
of Chandler, Oklahoma, Catherine “Katie” Umberger of Fairfax, South Dakota,
Joy and husband Ron Crocker of Viburnum, Missouri, Lura “Tiny” and husband
John Reeves of Cuba, Missouri, Eileen and husband Danny Roberts of
Bloomington, Illinois, Albert “Butch” Cummings of Houstonia, Missouri and
Ronald and Brandy Cummings of Sullivan, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Elsie
Weaver of Steelville, Missouri; 38 grandchildren; 100+ great grandchildren;
almost 100 great great grandchildren; one great great great grandson; other
relatives and friends.
Visitation was Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at the Mizell
Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Mizell
Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Don Martin officiating. Special
music will be “Amazing Grace” and “Mansion over the Hilltop.”
Pallbearers were Terry Reeves, Osten Cassidy, James Graham, Chuck Guthrie,
Rob Cummings and Robbie Jones.
Interment and prayers followed at the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba,
Missouri.
Napoleon Greer
Napoleon Greer of Cuba, Missouri was born on Sunday, June 22, 1924 in
Cleveland, Ohio and passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Cuba Manor at
the age of 87 years, 9 months and 18 days.
A private burial was held at the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Missouri.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri.
Fern Joan Heflin
Fern Joan Heflin of Springfield, Missouri, formerly of St. James, Missouri
was born on June 28, 1938 in Rolla, Missouri to Lloyd C. and Julia Elizabeth
(Williams) Jackson and passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the
Woodland Manor Nursing Home in Springfield, Missouri, age the age of
73 years, 9 months and 13 days.
On August 12, 1960 Fern was united in marriage to Floyd Alfred Helfin by
Fred Barber at the St. James Chrisitan Church and to this union one daughter
was born.
Fern was a member of St. James Christian Church in St. James and graduated
from John F. Hodge High School.
Fern and Floyd owned and operated their own heating and air conditioning
service in St. Louis, called “Heflin Heating and Cooling” for 26 years
before retiring back to St. James. One of Fern’s favorite past times was
playing cards with her sister-in-law Linda Jackson. Fern moved to Spring-
field to be near her daughter and family and there she attended “Praise
Assembly of God” for the last 14 years were she was active in the Seniors
Group at the church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Heflin on October 11, 1998;
parents, Lloyd and Julia (Williams) Jackson; and one brother, Sam Jackson.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and husband Jay
Passmore of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Hann and
Tammy Bright, Isaac Hann and Caleb Bright; two great granddaughters, Erica
Hann and Megan Bright; and sister-in-law, Linda Jackson of St. James,
Missouri.
Visitation was at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James at 10 a.m. on
Saturday April 14, 2012.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at
the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James with Rick Mosher officiating.
Hymns of “Amazing Grace” and “Because He Lives” were provided by Lori
Garver, vocalist with Charlet Hemme at the organ.
Pallbearers were Doug Williams, Steve Jackson, Lowell Wynn, Bob Rivers,
Corey Bright and Hamar Hann.
Burial was in the family plot in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens in
Rolla, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home
in St. James,
Missouri.
Gertrude Alice Hill
Gertrude Alice Hill nee Arkwright of Cuba, Missouri was born on Wednesday,
July 25, 1928 in Youngstown, Ohio to George A. and Gladys Cuddeback
Arkwright and passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at her home in Cuba,
Missouri at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 14 days.
She lived in Daytona Beach, Florida most of her adult life where she was
an owner and manager of several restaurants. She recently moved to Cuba to
live with her daughter. She was a member of the Delhi Baptist Church,
Cuba, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George ad Gladys Arkwright;
husband, Warren C. Hill; daughter, Audrey Louise Hill; and grandson,
William Calvin Summer.
She is survived by her children, Mary (Ken) Collins of Cuba, Missouri,
Susan G. Waycaster of Andrews, South Carolina and William (Michelle) Hill
of Boyds, Maryland; brothers, Howard (Eloise) Arkwright and Edward Arkwright
of Columbiana, Ohio; sister, Margaret Spellman of Deland, Florida; six
grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the
Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Charles Ledbetter
officiating.
Arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri.
Betty Joe Johnson
Betty Joe Johnson was born February 3, 1936 in Sweetwater, Missouri and
passed away March 31, 2012 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 76 years.
On March 20, 1954, Betty Joe Conway was united in marriage to Norman Elmo
Johnson and to this union two children were born.
Betty was a very creative person and loved to paint. She was a member of
Webster Groves Church of God and enjoyed ministry work, singing in the
choir and teaching Sunday School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Joshua and Easter Ann
(Goforth) Conway; husband, Norman Elmo Johnson; brothers, Delbert, Curtis,
Lloyd; sister, April and an infant sister.
She is survived by her children, Norman Johnson and wife Laurie of
St. Louis, Missouri, Deborah Johnson-Province and husband Michael;
brothers, Wayne Conway of Eminence, Missouri, Samuel Ray Conway of
Steelville, Missouri, and Earl Conway of Florida; sister, Jean Atwood of
Potosi, Missouri; grandson, Shawn Johnson; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held April 6, 2012 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel
with Elder Carlton Mathes and Bro. Michael Johnson officiating. Music was
by Michael Johnson.
Pallbearers were Dennis Burns, Leroy, Ivan, James and Gary Johnson and
Jerry Hammons.
Interment was in the Greeley Cemetery.

William “Bill” F. Knepper
William “Bill” F. Knepper of Cuba, Missouri was born July 19, 1962 at East
St. Louis, Illinois and passed away Monday, April 9, 2012 at Mercy Hospital,
St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 49 years.
Bill proudly served in the United States Army from June 1981 till September
1992 and then served in the Missouri National Guard until 2003. He retired
after 22 years of dedicated service to his country. Bill was a member of
the Cuba VFW Post #7147 and was an avid gun collector.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Dorothy (nee Huskey)
Knepper; one sister, Linda Scego; other relatives and friends.
He is survived by his brother, James Knepper of Cuba, Missouri;
brother-in-law, Doug Scego of Cuba, Missouri; one aunt, Marie Ewing of
Essex, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at the
Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri.
Graveside service was at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2012 at the
Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri with full
military honors.

Missouri.
Juanita “Cooky” Lock
Juanita “Cooky” Lock was born Monday, June 1, 1931 in Steelville, Missouri
to Fred and Lillian “Rusty” Cook Keener and passed away Wednesday,
April 11, 2012 at St. Clare Health Center in Fenton, Missouri at the age
of 80 years, 10 months and 10 days.
After graduating from Steelville High School, she moved to Texas where she
was the managing director of La Marque Federal Credit Union in La Marque,
Texas for 10 years. She later moved back to Steelville and worked at Brown
Shoe Co. She currently was working as a Title Abstractor for Crawford
County Title Company in Cuba, Missouri and was also, serving on the board
of the Steelville Ambulance District.
Cooky accepted the Lord several years ago and was a member of Center
Point Baptist Church in Steelville, Missouri. She played professional
women’s fastpitch softball in Texas where she played second base. She
loved sports, especially St. Louis Cardinal baseball and St. Louis Rams
football. She enjoyed playing shuffleboard, she loved to dance and would
do so at the drop of a hat. She loved to fish and be outdoors. She treasured
the time she spent with her brothers, special cousin Kim Cook, and many
friends. Cooky was never happy when she was away from Steelville, she truly
loved Steelville and was actively involved in many civic activities down
through the years.
She was preceded in death by her biological father, Fred Lock, father,
Robert Keener and mother Lillian “Rusty” Cook Keener.
She is survived by her brothers, Bobby (Linda) Keener of Melbourne,
Florida and Ted (Cher) Spring of Otto, North Carolina; special cousin,
Kim Cook of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 5-9 p.m. and funeral service
on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home in
Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating.
Musical selections were, “In The Garden,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and
“The Sun’s Coming Up in the Morning” sung by Paul Hutson and Melinda
Medlock.
Burial was at the Steelville Cemetery.

Mackie Jerald “Joe” Miner
Mackie Jerald “Joe” Miner was born September 7, 1935 in Frankclay,
Missouri and passed away March 31, 2012 at his home in Boss, Missouri at
the age of 76 years.
On September 27, 1959 Mackie Jerald “Joe” Miner was united in marriage to
Doshia Alice Barton. Joe was the father of seven children.
Joe enjoyed restoring antique cars, working with hot rods, 4-wheel riding
and going fishing at Bennie Maxwell’s pond.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Plumas Burdine and Addie Glaydes
(Crocker) Miner; sisters, Zoah “Judy” Sellers, Doris Barton, Margaret
“Pinky” Blackwell, infants, Norma Faye and Edna Bernice; brothers, Vernon
and Lucky Bill Miner.
He is survived by his wife, Doshia of the home in Boss; children, Nina
Beaumont and husband Greg of Effingham, Illinois, Judy Logan and husband
David of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Gerald Miner and wife Donna of Boss,
Missouri, Anthony Miner and wife Sonia of Boss, Missouri, Monica Thompson
and husband Dale of Steelville, Missouri, Nancy Miner of Viburnum,
Missouri, Karla Boggs and husband Robert of Caddo, Oklahoma; sisters,
Bertha Radford of St. Peters, Missouri, Alta Sotille of St. Louis,
Missouri, Janet Pippins of Hammond, Indiana, Goldie Miller and husband
Ronnie of Imperial, Missouri; brothers, Plumas “Sonny” Miner and wife
Thelma of Boss, Missouri, Ronnie Miner and wife Sandy of Boss, Missouri;
nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; four
step great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held April 3, 2012 at the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum
Chapel with Bro. Paul Pryor and Bro. Ray Gene Reese officiating. Music
was by Ashley Davis and Clay Harper.
Pallbearers were Jonathan, Joseph and Jesse Hopkins, Steve Jimmerson,
Ronnie Dane and Tim Duncan.
Interment was in the Barton Cemetery with Elder Carlton Mathes
officiating.

Bonnie Elizabeth Riley
Bonnie Elizabeth Riley of St. James, Missouri was born to Donald and
Beverly (Shasteen) Riley on July 31, 1987 in Herrin, Illinois and passed
away April 7, 2012 at the age of 24 years, 8 months and 7 days.
Bonnie was a 2006 graduate of John F. Hodge High School where she proudly
served as Class President and a Tiger Cheerleader. Graduating with honors,
Bonnie had attended college on the A+ Scholarship and also received the
Edward Scholarship. She was named to the dean’s list for the Fall 2007
semester at Ozarks Technical Community College.
Family was a very important part of her life. She loved going to church
where she was also very involved. Bonnie enjoyed attending the Little
Prairie Bible Camp, where she served as a camp counselor. She and her
fiancé, Steve Fornshell were big Kansas City Chiefs fans.
She is survived by her fiancé, Steve Fornshell of Springfield, Missouri;
parents, Donald and Beverly Riley of St. James, Missouri; brothers, Gene
Riley and wife Lynn of Pekin, Illinois, Chip Riley and wife Heather of
St. James, Missouri; sisters, Shiela Bates and fiancé Jeremy Robertson
of Springfield, Missouri, Andrea Sosonowski and husband Tony of Jefferson
City, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the St. James Chapel of
the James & Gahr Mortuary from 4-8 p.m.
Funeral services were held Wednesday April 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the
Hwy. E. Church of Christ in Rolla, Missouri with Preacher Mike Knappier
officiating.
Interment was at the Little Prairie Burial Grounds.
Arrangements under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in
St. James, Missouri.
Ernest Darrell Shackelford
Ernest Darrell Shackelford formerly of St. James, Missouri, was born in
Gunnison, Colorado to Lewis and Katherine (Gargus) Shackelford on
October 1, 1955 and passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012 at his home in
Urbana, Missouri at the age of 56 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Katherine Shackelford
and a sister, Susan Shackelford.
He is survived by special friend, Diana Reaves of the home; children,
Adam Charles Lewis Shackelford and wife Jessica of Kerrville, Texas, Alisha
Amber Ventura of Houston, Texas; brothers, Dale Shackelford of St. James,
Missouri, Lewis Wayne “Tiger” Shackelford and wife Mary of Jefferson City,
Missouri; sisters, Janet Gruver and husband Jimmy of Cuba, Missouri,
Patricia Delashmit of Cuba, Missouri; former wife, Sally Shackelford of
Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 14, 2012 in Buffalo, Missouri
at the First Baptist Church at 3 p.m.
