Eula Evans
Eulah Evans, nee Evans, was born Sunday, September 14, 1930 at Courtois, in
Washington County, Mo., a daughter of the late Rua Corby Gillam and Ida Mae
Gillam (nee Brakefield). She departed this life at her home in Arnold, Mo.,
Friday, April 7, 2000, at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 24 days.
On November 14, 1952, she was united in marriage to Franklin Ellis Evans,
son of Redford Evans and Eva (Skaggs) (Chandler) Evans. They have enjoyed
over forty-seven years together.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted husband Frank
of the home in Arnold, Mo.; three sons, Clifford Gillam and wife Barbara of
Union, Mo., Bill Evans and wife Cheryl, and Dennis Evans and wife Laura,
all of DeSoto, Mo.
Three brothers, Austin Gillam and wife Betty of St. Charles, Mo., Arvil
Gillam and wife Deloris of DeSoto, Mo., Audie Gillam of Viburnum, Mo.
Five sisters, Geraldine Johnson of Maplewood, Mo., Norma and husband
Richard Wall of Fenton, Mo., Barbara and husband Terrence McDonald of
Redbud, Illinois, Freida and husband Joey Treadway of Union, Mo., Verneda
and husband Ronnie Eye of Potosi, Mo.
Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lorene Riggs of Cherryville, Mo.,
Gerene Coleman of Pevely, Mo., James and Norman Skaggs of Viburnum, Mo. and
Nina Skaggs of High Ridge, Mo.
Six grandchildren, Julie Sang, Lisa, Krystale, Eric, Jamie, and Sarah
Evans, four great-grandchildren, Brian Sang, Madison, Dylan and Zachary
Evans, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents Eulah was preceded in death by two sisters, Lena
Lisitano and Beulah Edwards, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Herman
and Hildred Skaggs.
Eulah Evans lay in state 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2000, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held
1:00 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2000 in the Britton Chapel, with Rev. David
Cartee officiating. Musical selections were provided by vocalist Trisa
Callahan and organist Ava Britton.
Committal prayers and interment were in Czar Cemetery, Viburnum, Mo.
Serving as pallbearers were Randy Gillam, Terry McDonald, Glen Ottomeyer,
Don Skaggs and Richard Wall.

Kate R. Spicer
Kate R. Spicer, nee Baker, of Bourbon, Mo. passed away Tuesday, April 11,
2000 at the age of 88 years. Mrs. Spicer was born on October 4, 1911 in a
little town near Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the late Robert L. and Adelia
(nee Grote) Baker. When Kate was only three years old, they moved to what
was once known as Hinch, Mo. onto the family farm. Kate worked since the
age of eleven, earning her own clothes and shoes for school by baby-sitting
and helping with housework.
At the age of sixteen she married Myron Spicer on July 3, 1927. They had
two children, Loyd and Peggy. They lived in St. Louis for several years,
and later moved to Overland, Mo. Like many other women, Kate joined the
workforce to help win World War II. She actually made 50mm caliber
ammunition. Together, Myron and Kate saved enough to by their first home in
1945. Kate was active in the PTA, and was a member of the First Methodist
Church. She loved music, reading, and was an accomplished seamstress. Some
may remember her playing the "Missouri Waltz" on the piano. Kate worked
five years at the Sears & Roebuck on Kingshighway in St. Louis, but her
main pleasure in life was her family. In 1970, after the retirement of her
husband, Kate and Myron made their home in the Bourbon area.
She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Ramey of Centralia, Illinois; three
sisters, Pauline Farris of Cuba, Mo., Pearl Crowder of Bourbon, and Bobbie
Mercer of Cuba; one half-sister, Gladys; 14 grandchildren, 25
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In
addition to her husband and parents, Kate was preceded in death by a son,
Loyd Spicer; a daughter-in-law, Virginia; a grandson, Loyd Spicer, Jr.; two
brothers Eugene and Robert Baker; and three half-sisters, Ethel, Grace, and
Irene.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 15, 2000
from the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon with Pastor James Ramey
officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery.
Nelda Fay Long
Nelda Fay Long, nee Lewis, was born Sunday, October 3, 1948, in West
Virginia, a daughter of the late Donald Lewis and Erma Lewis (nee
Salsbury). She departed this life Sunday, April 9, 2000, in the Georgia
Gardens Nursing Home, Potosi, Mo., at the age of 51 years, 6 months and 6
days.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Linda
Kay Kern.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her sister Donna Nichols
and husband Junior of Canton, Ohio; one brother, Daniel Lewis and wife
Scottie of Littleton, Colorado, nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends.
Nelda Fay Long lay in state after 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 14, 2000, at
the Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11:00
a.m. Friday, April 14, 2000 in the Britton Chapel.
Interment was in Frazier Cemetery, Salem, Mo.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Mo.
Ray Carl Brumley
Ray Carl Brumley was born Wednesday, June 12, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois,
to the late George Brumley and Beedy Ann Lyles Brumley and departed this
life on Friday, April 14, 2000 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center
in Rolla, Mo. at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 2 days.
Ray was united in marriage to Reba Marceline Cassidy on June 6, 1951 in
Steelville, Mo. and to this union three children were born. They were
happily married for 49 years.
On March 4, 1953 Ray was inducted into the United States Army and was
honorably discharged on February 5, 1955.
Ray was an avid gardener and raised and sold vegetables, and he liked to
walk. Ray worked for Brown Shoe Company, Floyd Charcoal Plant and retired
from Proctor Products.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents Beedy and George Brumley, one
brother William Allen Brumley; one infant sister Betty Jean Brumley; 2
half-brothers George William Brumley, and Ernest Leroy Brumley; two half
sisters Elsie Smith, and Mildred Harstine; and one nephew Gary Peine.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving wife Reba Marceline
Cassidy Brumley of the home, his son Nelson Brumley and wife Janice of
Jacksonville, Arkansas; two daughters Sharon Brumley of the home in
Steelville, Mo., and Coleen Brumley of Portageville, Mo.; two grandchildren
Brian Brumley and Andrea Fowler, of Jacksonville, Arkansas.
One sister Wanetta Peine of Brecksville, Ohio; brother-in-laws and
sister-in-laws Evelyn and Harley Moss of Devon, Kansas; Arthur and Wilma
Peine of Florence, South Carolina; and Charles Cassidy of Steelville, Mo.;
and Betty Cassidy of Marshall, Mo.; Harriet Brumley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa;
many nieces, and nephews and a host of friends.
Ray was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was well liked by
all who knew him.
Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, April 15, 2000 at
the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
Funeral Services were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Chapel
in Steelville, Mo., with Delmar B. Hutson officiating.
Pallbearers were: Lonnie Moss, Brian Brumley, Larry Moss, David Cassidy,
Matt Nelson and Richard Buckno.
Burial was in the Keysville Cemetery, Keysville, Mo.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in
Steelville, Mo.
Raymond A. Garms
Raymond A. Garms of Steelville, Mo., was born Tuesday, December 27, 1927,
at Oak Hill, Mo., a son of the late William Henry Garms and Essie (Gates)
Garms.
He entered into eternal rest Saturday, April 8, 2000, at the Missouri
Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Mo., at the age of 72 years, 3 months and
12 days.
Ray served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War
II. He entered the Army January 19, 1946 at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. and
received an honorable discharge July 18, 1947, at Kessler Field,
Mississippi.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Ruth
Garms (nee Eaton) of the home, one daughter, Laura Marie Hill and husband
Roger of Auxvassee, Mo.; three son, Ray Garms, Jr. and wife Janet of
Kankakee, Illinois, Joe Garms and wife Cindy, Dan Garms and wife Sondra,
all of Steelville, Mo.; three step-sons, Dewayne Sellers, Winford Sellers
and wife Mary, Lindell Sellers and wife Kathy, also of Steelville.
Three brothers, Jay Garms of Sullivan, Mo., Earl Garms and wife Georgia,
Larry Garms and wife Joyce, all of Steelville.
Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Hazel and Bob Huff, also of Steelville,
Eula Counts, Erma Thurman, both of Cuba, Mo., Ina Eaton of Park Hills, Mo.;
twenty-eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents Ray was preceded in death by one brother, Fred
Garms and wife Hattie; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Eloice (Mrs.
Jay) Garms, Arthur Counts, Martha Belle Eaton, Beulah, Clarence (Pete) and
Zelma, John, Bill, Gordon, and Harry and Marie Eaton.
Raymond A. Garms lay in state after 11:00 a.m. Sunday, April 9, 2000, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were
held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. A.
F. Roberdes and Rev. Harvey Buckley officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Steelville,
Mo. Honoring their grandfather as pallbearers were Donnie Garms, Matt
Garms, Michael Garms, Delbert Hall, Brian Sellers and Jody Sellers.
Full military honors were presented by the Missouri National Guard of
Jefferson City, Mo. at graveside.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Delmar E. Cooley
Delmar E. Cooley of Indian Hills, Cuba, Mo., was born on February 11, 1926
in St. Louis, Mo. to the union of Cecil Cooley and Ruth Cooley nee Roney
and passed away on April 7, 2000 at the Phelps County Regional Medical
Center, Rolla, Mo. at the age of 74 years, 1 month and 26 days.
In 1943 Delmar was united in marriage to Jewell Elliott at Mountain View,
Mo. One son, James, and two daughters, Kathy and Barbara, were born to this
union. They have been happily married for 57 years.
Delmar was preceded in death by his parents, one brother David Cooley and
three sisters, Ruthie Barton, June Smith and Patsy Gardner.
Delmar was inducted into the Army of the United States of America and was
honorably discharged on August 6, 1946. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific
Theater.
He retired after working for the Brink's Armed Transportation Service as a
truck driver.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his devoted wife
Jewell Cooley; one son James Cooley and wife Judy; two daughters Kathy
Moore and Barbara Callahan; one brother Eugene Cooley and wife Shirley;
three sisters Geniva Davis; Emma Chitwood and husband Earl and Alline Reese
and husband Ronnie; eight grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives
and many friends.
Delmar was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, good
friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Delmar E. Cooley was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
where funeral services were held on Monday, April 10, 2000 at 10:00 a.m.
with Rev. James Gardner officiating. Interment was in the Meramec Hills
Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Keith Ellis
Keith Leslie Ellis, Belle, died Friday, April 7, 2000 in Jefferson City. He
was 49 years old.
He was born on May 29, 1950, a son of Rosie Loretta Miller and Kenneth
Leslie Dail Ellis. He married Nancy Marler in 1975. He married Carol
Kavanaugh in 1983.
Mr. Ellis is survived by his mother, Loretta Spurgeon and her husband Ezro
of Belle; one daughter, Kathy Ellis, St. Clair; four sons, Chris and his
wife Alicia of Dupo, Illinois, Jerry, of Potosi, Charlie of Belle, and
Drew, Dixon; one sister, Anita Schafer and her husband Don, Ft. Smith,
Arkansas; three brothers, Larry and his wife Sue, Belle, Ronald and his
wife Betty, Foristell, and Donald, Belle.
He was preceded in death by his father Dail L. Ellis and an infant brother
David Lee Ellis.
He graduated from Pacific High School and attended technical school for two
years studying drafting. He was employed as a draftsman, a chef and worked
for Purina arms in Gray Summit. He was a member of the Bland Christian
Church and the Cuba Lodge of the Masonic Order 312 AF & AM. He was a past
master of the Gray Summit Lodge and participated in the Union Demolay. He
was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and was very active
with the Boy Scouts in Belle.
Services were held on April 9, from Sassmann's Chapel in Belle with Bruce
Elmore officiating. Also participating in the service were the Cuba Lodge
of the Masonic Order, and the Belle Boy Scouts. Burial was made in
Countryside Memorial Gardens in Owensville.
Arrangements were made under the direction of Sassmann's Funeral Service in
Belle.
Imogene Weber
Imogene Weber, nee Owens, formerly of Bourbon, Mo., was born on July 30,
1920 in Monett, Mo., to the union of Gilbert and Grace Owens nee Knight and
passed away on April 11, 2000 at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 12 days.
On July 3, 1940, Imogene was united to Walter Weber in Union, Mo. and to
this union one daughter was born. They were happily married until Walter
preceded her in death on February 24, 1996.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Imogene was a long time resident of Crawford County. She was devoted to
taking care of her family.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her daughter,
Gail Shelton and husband Robert; two grandchildren Lisa Hunt and husband
Dennis, Brian Shelton and wife Tracy; two great-grandchildren Jessica Hunt
and Jennifer Hunt; four nieces Sue Scantlan and husband Jerry, Rhonda Crane
and husband Dennis, Janice McKensey and Chris Barks; dear friend Carol
Robertson; other relatives and many friends.
Imogene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a
good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Imogene Weber nee Owens was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Mo. on Wednesday, April 12, 2000. Funeral services were held on Thursday,
April 13, 2000 at 12 noon at the Bourbon United Methodist Church, Bourbon,
Mo. with Rev. Diane Cochran officiating. Pallbearers were Vernon Robertson,
Richard Abel, Jerry Scantlan, Mark Scantlan, Scott Roberts, Dennis Crane,
and Frank Eck. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Mo. All
arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Mo.
Charles H. Klocke
Charles H. "Charlie" Klocke of Bourbon, Mo. was born on August 22, 1918 at
St. Louis, Mo. to the union of Herman Klocke and Louise Klocke nee
Hornberger and passed away on April 10, 2000 at the Beverly Healthcare at
Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 19 days.
On November 1, 1941 Charlie was united in marriage to Verna Westerman at
Beaufort, Mo. One son, James, and one daughter, Lois, were born to this
union. Charles and Verna had been happily married for 58 years.
On June 12, 1941 Charles was inducted into the Army of the United States of
America and served during World War II in the South Pacific. He received
the Purple Heart, six Bronze Stars with Oak Leaf Clusters, Army
Commendation Medal and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was
honorably discharged on September 29, 1945.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Charles was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Beaufort, Mo.,
Bourbon American Legion Post No. 81 and retired in 1983 after 37 years with
Crawford Electric Cooperative.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife
Verna Klocke; one son James Klocke and wife Julie; one daughter Lois
Hollingshead and husband Jerry; one brother Frank Klocke; 6 grandchildren
Shawna Terry and husband Matt, Anthony Matchell, John Klocke, Justin
Klocke, Jerod Hollingshead, Evan Hollingshead; one step-granddaughter Laura
Hollingshead; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Charles was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, good
friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Charles H. "Charlie" Klocke was in state at the Eaton Funeral Home of
Sullivan, Mo. on Wednesday, April 12, 2000 where American Legion Services
was held by Bourbon Post No. 81.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, April 13, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the
St. John's Lutheran Church, Beaufort, Mo. with Rev. David Zirpel
officiating. Interment was in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Beaufort,
Mo. All arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo.
Roy L. Elliston
Roy L. "Pete" Elliston of Cuba, Mo. was born on June 1, 1939 at Cuba, Mo.
to the union of James Fleming Elliston and Elizabeth Elliston nee Reeves
and passed away on April 11, 2000 at the Phelps County Regional Medical
Center of Rolla, Mo. at the age of 60 years, 10 months and 10 days.
On July 12, 1958 Pete was united in marriage to Martha Gregory. Two sons,
Johnny and Mark, and four daughters, Shirley, Joyce, Barbara and Becky,
were born to this union.
On December 6, 1987 Pete was united in marriage to Norma M. Stroup at Cuba,
Mo. Norma preceded Pete in death on May 15, 1995.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law George Pinnell and
two brothers Robert and Johnny Elliston.
Pete was a long time resident of Crawford County and worked as a bricklayer
most of his life.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his two sons
Johnny Elliston and Mark Elliston and wife June; four daughters Shirley
Young and husband Allan, Joyce Hamilton and husband Tim, Barbara Sanders
and husband Les and Becky Hollingsworth; two step-daughters Norma Davis and
husband Robert and Nancy Mercer and husband Donald; four sisters Martha
Martin and husband Kenneth, Clara Killon and husband Junior, Anna Gregory
and husband Buck and Mary Martin and husband Eddie; 16 grandchildren; 3
great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Pete was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Roy L. "Pete" Elliston was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Mo. where funeral services were held on Friday, April 14, 2000 at 11:00
a.m. with Rev. Roger Schnakenberg officiating. Interment was in the Delhi
Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
