Lucy enjoyed spending time outside in her gardens, collecting home interiors and porcelain dolls and making beautiful flower arrangements from the flowers from her garden. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Mathena; two husbands, Charles Snelson and Lester Asher; daughter Charlene Aiple; sisters, Florence, Annie, Clara (Babe), Marilee, and Annabelle; and brothers, Eli (Pete) and William (Bill). Goldie Black Goldie Black of Sullivan, Missouri was born at St. Louis, Missouri on August 8, 1934 to Martin Luther and Lillie (Reeves) Brown and passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the age of 81 years. She and her family lived in the rural Bourbon, Missouri area where she attended Fairview School and later was schooled in the Bourbon School System. Goldie was employed briefly at Du Kum Inn and for a time at Paramount Headwear and later with the former International Shoe Company in Sullivan, Missouri. Goldie was a homemaker until her children were old enough for her to return to her education and attained her GED and then enrolled at East Central College where she received two Associate of Arts Degrees. She then went to work at Chesterfield Mall for Famous Barr and later at Wal-Mart in Sullivan where she was a cashier for 15 years. On November 25, 1954 she married Carl Allan Black at Ste. Genevieve, Missouri and to this marriage three children were born. She loved flower gardening and was known to all as a good cook. Goldie also enjoyed reading and was a movie buff.Goldie was also a member of Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Lillie Brown; and a brother, David Brown. Paul worked for a few years doing lawn care for Manpower until he became disabled with muscular dystrophy. Dr. Carl Joseph James Dr. Carl Joseph James was born in Omaha, Nebraska on August 30, 1923 to Carl and Ina (Slingerland) James and passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the age of 92 years The family moved to California in 1929. During World War II, Carl was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood and fell in love with Gladys Elizabeth Brown from Jefferson City, Missouri. They married April 15, 1945 and had two daughters. After 59 years of marriage, Gladys passed away in August of 2004. On January 23, 2010 he married Barbara Brauer Dodd from Sullivan, Missouri. While stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in the medical corp, Carl became interested in dentistry and also loved the seasons and beauty of the Ozarks. After he graduated from the University of Southern California in 1954 with a D.D.S. degree, Dr. James and his family moved to Rolla, Missouri and opened a dental office. In January of 2004, after 50 years of dental practice, he retired. He still remained interested in the field of dentistry and worked with others to establish a dental hygiene school in Rolla, Missouri. As a young child, Carl learned how to ride a unicycle and rode it in the Rolla centennial parade in 1957 and in the 1960's used it as a fundraiser for the Rolla Sheltered Workshop. With a little effort and practice, he rode it on his 75th and 80th birthdays. As a violinist he was interested in music and in the 1960's was president of the Rolla Community Concert. Carl was also a charter member of the Rolla Rotary Breakfast Club. Dr. James was a lifetime member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In the 1960's he, along with other Adventist medical personnel in Missouri, raised funds to purchase 143 acres in the Lake of the Ozarks for a youth camp. During the next 10 years he helped develop the camp and it is currently used year-round which includes a program for the blind. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Gladys; two brothers, Jack, Robert; and one sister Mary. Loren Clinton Morelock Loren Clinton Morelock of St. James, Missouri was born on August 2, 1932 to Clint and Margaret Satterfield Morelock in High Gate, Missouri and passed away on April 11, 2016 at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 9 days. Loren was an avid reader and love to read about history. He loved playing ball and he played in High Gate, Belle, and St. James, Missouri. He liked cows and loved farming. He worked at the Shoe Factory in St. James, Missouri, carpentered with Ralph Davis and worked at the School of Mines of Physical Facility as an Assistant Administrator. Loren was very well educated. He attended Belle High School in Belle, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint Morelock in 1984 and Margaret Morelock in 1999; and one brother, Doyel Morelock on 12-10-2009. Henry Lyndel Stroud Henry Lyndel Stroud of Cuba, Missouri was born May 30, 1934 at Savine Parish, Louisiana to Thomas "Jack" and Linda (nee Horton) Stroud and passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the age of 81 years. Henry married Lois Daniel on August 20, 1969 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cuba, Missouri and to this union one daughter was born. Henry proudly served in the United States Navy for 20+ years and retired from the Naval Reserves in October 1993 as an E6. After the Navy Henry found his true calling in life and became a teacher. He retired from teaching in Louisiana but after moving to Cuba, Missouri. Henry started substituting for Cuba Middle School and Steelville Middle School. Henry loved the students "His Kids" he would say. He spent hours teaching about life, the Navy and the things that go on in today's world. As all of Henry's kids and friends found out Henry was quite the storyteller. In his free time Henry enjoyed fishing. Henry attended the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Cuba, Missouri for many years and for the last year and half Henry had been attended the Steelville First Assembly of God Church. Henry was a member of the Cuba Lions Club and the Korean War Veterans Association for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Linda Stroud; wife, Lois Stroud; daughter, Samantha Stroud; brother, Clyde Stroud; two brothers-in-law, Jim Daniel and Bob Daniel; and sister-in-law, Jackie Edward. Loretta Irene Talbert Loretta Irene Talbert of St. James, Missouri was born in Redbird, Missouri on November 10, 1930 to Henry and Viola (Bauer) McWilliams and passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the age of 85 years. Loretta was united in marriage on October 24, 1951 to the George Talbert and to this union seven children were born. Loretta and George bought a little farm outside of St. James, Missouri where they raised their growing family, cattle, flowers, and vegetables. She loved flowers and her gardens, and was known to say "you can never have too many flowers." She had two greenhouses at home so she could start early planning and getting the seedlings ready to plant after the frost. She and George always had a big bountiful garden that they could share with family and friends. She also enjoyed quilting and embroidery. Loretta loved the outdoors and teaching her children and grand- children to work in the gardens and around the farm. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Viola McWilliams; sons, Roger, Ronald and Buddy Talbert; daughter Donna Talbert; sister, Ruby Stewart; and an infant sister.
