MO Local Obituaries for the Week of April 23, 2003 John Thomas (Jack) Collier, Jr. John Thomas Collier, Jr., was born Sunday, February 8, 1925 in Webster City, Iowa to John Thomas Collier, Sr. and Ruby Morgan Collier. He departed this life on April 17, 2003 at his rural Salem, Mo. home at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 9 days. John grew up mostly in Missouri. He attended school through 8th grade and completed his GED while in the military. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1945 and served over 20 years, retiring in 1966. On August 18, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Ann Lewis in McAlester, Oklahoma and to this union two children were born. After retirement Jack lived in Oceanside, California and moved to his rural Missouri home in 1987. He loved to putter, and was a "Mr. Fix It" kind of guy. He could make or create anything. John was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Victor Oswald Collier, Henry Lewis (Red) Collier and wife Dolly, Robert Leslie Collier and Clifford Dean Collier; and one sister Shirley Shireen Moreland and husband Gene. Those who remain to mourn his passing are children, John Thomas Collier III of Reno, Nevada and Debbie Pace and husband Bob of El Cajon, California; three brothers, Bill Collier and wife Ruth of Cherryville, Mo.; and Charles Collier of Wichita, Kansas; Ken Collier and wife Myra of New Orleans, Louisiana, two sisters Charlotte Dahmer and husband Larry of Lees Summit, Mo. and Judy Hewkin of Davisville, Mo.; three grandchildren, Brandon and Nick Seedorf of Long Beach, California, and Kimberly Collier of Reno, Nevada; one great-granddaughter, Aryana Collier of Reno, Nevada; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends, all who will sadly miss and fondly remember John Thomas (Jack) Collier, Jr. Memorial Service was held on April 21, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Cherryville Baptist Church with Rev. Harry White officiating. Burial was in the Cherryville Baptist Cemetery, Cherryville, Mo. with full military honors. Ruby Collier Ruby Collier nee Morgan was born Saturday, February 22, 1902 in Deepwater, Mo. to Lloyd Morgan and Jenny Hubbard Morgan. She passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at her home near Cherryville, Mo. at the age of 101 years, 1 month and 25 days. On April 16, 1920, Ruby was united in marriage to John Thomas Collier in Deepwater, Mo. and to this union eleven children were born. Ruby moved from Eureka, Mo. to Cherryville, Mo. over 30 years ago. She was a member of the Cherryville Baptist Church, where she loved to attend and once taught Sunday School. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting, also, loved her children and grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas Collier; two sisters and one brother, twin sister Ruth Wood and husband Johnny, Audrey Wilson and husband Ralph, and Leslie Lawrence Morgan and wife Grace; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Eva Kincade and husband Glen, Ida Waddell, Charles Frances Collier, Henry Lewis Collier, Edward Collier and William Franklin Collier; five sons, Victor Oswald Collier, Henry Lewis (Red) Collier and wife Dolly, Robert Leslie Collier, Clifford Dean Collier, John Thomas (Jack) Collier, Jr., and one daughter Shirley Shireen Moreland and husband Gene. Donald Jene Creech Donald Jene Creech was born Thursday, December 31, 1931 in St. Charles, Mo., a son of the late Oney Creech and Elsie (Brown) Creech. Donald entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Mo. at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 8 days. Donald was united in marriage to Catherine Nelson and to this union eight children were born. Donald served his country in the United States Army entering service in May 1952 and receiving an Honorable Discharge in April 1954. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife of 46 years, Catherine Creech of LaPuente, California; three sons, Donald Creech, Jr. and wife Telina, Dinker Creech and wife Monica, and Brett Creech and wife Shawndra, all of California; four daughters, Rhonda Shoemake and husband Robert, Sr. of California, Carol Shoemake and husband Monroe of Steelville, Mo., Theresa Clark and husband Melvin of Wentzville, Mo., and Margaret Little of California. In addition, one brother-in-law, Bob Walker, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends, survive his passing. Donald was also preceded in death by one daughter, Catherine Creech; one brother, Melvin Creech; and one sister, Helen Walker. Memorial services and interment were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 in the St. Charles Memorial Gardens Cemetery, St. Charles, Mo. with Rev. LeRoy Nixon officiating. Gracie Arlene Holt Gracie Arlene Holt (nee Sewell) of Cuba, Mo. was born February 10, 1930, in Salem, Mo. to George and Ora (nee Schafer) Sewell, and passed away on April 14, 2003 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Mo. at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 4 days. She was united in marriage to Curtis Holt, Sr. on July 5, 1947. One son, Curtis, Jr. and four daughters, Norma, Judy, Debra, and Teresa were born to this union. Gracie was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed getting together with her family and friends to play her favorite game. She was a collector of antique jewelry and loved going to yard sales to see what treasure piece she might find. She was an award winning quilter and loved to cook and can for her family. Gracie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ora Sewell; three sisters, Carlene Chitwood, Viola White, and Annabelle Sewell; two brothers, Lee and Buzzie Sewell; and two grandchildren, Kevin and Christine Taylor. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving husband, Curtis Holt, Sr. of the home in Cuba, Mo.; one son, Curtis Holt, Jr. and wife Debbie of Cuba, Mo.; four daughters, Norma Hawkins and husband Virgil of Lady Lake, Florida; Judy Durbin and husband Robert of Port Orange, Florida; Debra Bates of Daytona Beach, Florida; and Teresa Holt of St. James, Mo.; two brothers, Orville Sewell and wife Sherry, Doyle Sewell and wife Margie; one sister Marie Lawson and husband Orval; 15 grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 10 step great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Gracie was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, relative, and dear friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. John Walter Reid John Walter Reid, 65, of Fort Smith, Arkansas was born on November 16, 1937 in St. Louis, Mo., the youngest child of Merritt Cummings and Anthonette Marie (Deposki) Reid. He died Sunday, April 13, 2003 in St. Edward Mercy Hospital, Fort Smith, Arkansas. Mr. Reid was united in marriage on January 14, 1983 to Ms. Jean Sanders. Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his mother on October 8, 1965; by his father on June 19,1975; by his sister, Loraine Anthonette (Reid) Wolfmeyer on February 2, 1988; by his brother, Joseph Allen Reid on July 6, 1995; and by his sister, Catherine Lillis (Reid) Nienhaus on September 21, 2000. Mr. Reid was raised in the community of Cuba, Mo. and was baptized at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he also made his first communion and confirmation. Mr. Reid was an independent businessman, served in the United States Army, and was an avid fisherman. He was an excellent cook and often served up his fried fish with huge fireworks displays, and guitar playing at the annual family reunion in Cuba, Mo. He is survived by his wife, Jean of Fort Smith, Arkansas; one son, Johnny Reid; several step-children; by his brother, Merritt Charles Reid of Ferguson, Mo.; by his sister, Charlotte Marie (Reid) Baker of Dixon, Mo.; by 32 nieces and nephews; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren. John Walter Reid was not only a good man, he was a loving husband and father, a kind and generous uncle and brother, and a devoted son and friend. Fond and precious memories of Mr. John Walter Reid will forever be remembered in the hearts of his dear family and all who knew and loved him. Marilyn Sue Sellers Marilyn Sue Sellers (nee Friedrich) was born Thursday, September 25, 1941, at Perkins, Mo., a daughter of Roy William Friedrich and the late Velma Mae Friedrich (nee Miller). She departed this life Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at her home on Arlie Barr Road, Viburnum, Mo., at the age of 61 years, 6 months and 21 days. Sue married Charles Radfern on April 18, 1961, one daughter, Carla, was born to this union. After his death she married A.H. "Lonnie" Sellers. In addition to her mother, Sue was preceded in death by her husband A.H. "Lonnie" Sellers; a step-daughter, Donna Lynn Sellers; one brother, R.W. "Butch" Friedrich; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Overa and Alonzo "Lon" Sellers and brother-in-law, Everett Campbell. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her three daughters, Carla and Brenda Sellers and Tina and husband Randy Parks, all of Viburnum, Mo.; sisters, Phyllis and husband Jim Ragsdale of Deepwater, Mo., and a chosen sister, Myrna Hartzell of Deslodge, Mo.; two grandchildren, Missy and husband Nick Sutherland of St. Mary's Georgia, Lynn Young of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one great grandson, Bryce Sutherland; loving friends and caregivers, Pat Barton and Beverly Setzer of Viburnum, Mo.; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. William R. "Bill" Sellers William R. "Bill" Sellers, 76 years old, of Waynesville, Mo. passed away on April 9,2003. Bill is survived by his loving family and many friends. His wife Melba, of 57 years, his three children, Connie Sue Sellers Sexton and husband Larry of St. Robert, Mo., Billie Jean Sellers Dalton and husband John of Parkville, Mo., James Craig Sellers and wife Cindy of Dixon, Mo. Bill and Melba have five grandchildren, James William Dalton, wife Stephanie and expected great-grandchild in May of Parkville, Mo., Casie Christine Sexton Wilkins and husband Christopher of Nashville, Tennessee, Jamie Janece Sexton of St. Louis, Mo., Kaleb Craig and Amanda Rose Sellers of Dixon, Mo. Bill is also survived by a sister, Marie Sellers Cooley of Bridgeton, Mo. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Frank Sellers, his brother, Delmar Sellers, and his other two sisters, Dolly Sellers and Eileen Sellers Gastineau. Bill was a founder and co-owner of Sellers-Sexton, Inc. of St. Robert, Mo. for 26 years. He was an active member of Westside Baptist Church, Ordained Deacon. In 1973, a 32nd degree Mason, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine of Springfield, Mo. and was enthusiastically involved with many community and charitable organizations. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003 at Westside Baptist Church with Rev. John Shaw officiating. Rev. Lee Schaffer read the obituary and gave a lovely and touching eulogy. Pianist, Greg Gabel played as Mike Freeman sang, "How Great Thou Art" and "Because He Lives." Serving as escorts were Charles and Willie Freeman, Wayne Gott, Bill Ransdall, Bobby Sellers and Doug Wilkerson. Honorary escorts were Gilbert Sellers and Co. Ed Owsley. Burial followed in the Sellers Cemetery near Davisville, Mo. Services were under the direction of Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Sidney C. Wedding Sidney C. Wedding nee Nash was born Wednesday, August 22, 1923, at Maceo, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Sidney Critton Nash and Lou Ellen Nash (nee Barnett). She entered eternal rest Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Bartesville, Oklahoma, at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 23 days. On October 21, 1939, Sidney was united in marriage to Joseph S. Wedding at Owensboro, Kentucky. Two sons and four daughters were born to this union. They enjoyed over forty-four years together, before his death, May 1983. In addition to her parents, one grandson, John David Takacs; three brothers, James Nash and wife Opal, Fred Nash and Rev. Lester Nash; two sisters, Beulah and husband George E. Young and Blanche Fulkerson and brothers-in-law, Denham Crawford and O.T. Miller, preceded her in death. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are two devoted sons and four loving daughters, Joseph S. Wedding, Jr. and wife Trinka of Manchester, Mo., Patricia and husband John Takacs of Lebanon, Mo., Larry W. Wedding and wife Shirley of Davisville, Mo., Rebecca and husband Louis McKain of Indianapolis, Indiana, Brenda and husband Gary Davis of Dewey, Oklahoma, Margie and husband Jack Turnbough of Davisville, Mo. She is also survived by one brother, Clarence Nash of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Katherine Crawford and Virginia Miller, both of Owensboro, Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Idella Nash of Danville, Kentucky; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Committal prayers and interment were in St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Manchester, Mo. with Rev. Jeff Nash officiating. Summer Davis played "Amazing Grace" graveside on a French horn. Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers were Carter Davis, Grayson Davis, Jeremy Davis, David Takacs, Ken Turnbough, Brian Wedding, Scott Wedding and Tim Wedding.
