MO Local Obituaries for the Week of April 24, 2013 Bob Damm Bob Damm of Cuba, Missouri was born on Friday, September 10, 1937 in St. Louis, Missouri to Russell Edward and Osa May Burleigh Damm and passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Cuba Manor at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 6 days. Bob married Joan M. Wright on March 17, 1976 in Miami, Oklahoma. He worked several years as a Truck Driver Route Salesman for Wonder Bread and Trainer Budweiser Distributing Co. of Cuba, Missouri. In Tulsa, Oklahoma he worked for Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Meadow Gold Milk Company. He was a member of the Teamsters Union in St. Louis, Missouri when working for Wonder Bread Co. He had attended Covenant Praise Church of God of Cuba, Missouri. His hobbies were fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents, Russell and Osa Damm. He is survived by his wife, Joan Damm of Cuba, Missouri; brother, James (Cassandra) Damm of Carl Junction, Missouri; children, Mike McQueen of Cuba, Missouri, Angela (Evan) Vaughan of Belle, Missouri, Angela Rubey of Mounds, Oklahoma, Bill (Amanda) Damm of Stockton, Missouri, Dorian (Larry) Edimossion and Chris Damm, all of Buffalo, Missouri; “apple of his eye” great granddaughter, Makenize Hankins of Belle, Missouri; several grand- children; one great grandson; other relatives and friends. Vesta Mae Fuhring Vesta Mae Fuhring of St. James, Missouri was born on May 17, 1935 in St. James, Missouri to Ed and Clara (Wheat) Brown and passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 77 years. Vesta was a graduate of John F. Hodge School. She was united in marriage to Charles Fuhring on April 21, 1956 and to this union three children were born. Vesta was a longtime member of the Eastern Star. She loved fishing, bowling, and working in the yard. She was an avid Cardinals fan and a great supporter of her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Clara Brown; and 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Charles, of the home; children, Mike Fuhring of St. James, Missouri, Valda Mahaney and husband Greg of St. James, Missouri, and Kevin Fuhring of St. James, Missouri; brother, Sidney Brown and wife Marilyn of St. James, Missouri; sister, Neva Coleman of Idaho; grandchildren, Charlynn Portell, Spence Fuhring, Vanessa Mahaney, Abbey Mahaney, Devin Fuhring and Ivan Fuhring; great granddaughter, Riley Portell; other relatives and friends. Marla Kay Licklider Marla Kay Licklider was born on February 20, 1961 in Phelps County, Missouri to Boyde and Martha Jane (Jett) Robertson and   passed away at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri on April 18, 2013 at the age of 52 years, 1 month and 29 days of age. Marla was united in marriage to Michael Licklider on May 14, 1983 in Pilot Knob, Belle, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, Boyde and Martha Jane Robertson; and father-in-law, Harold Licklider.She is survived by her husband, Michael Licklider of St. James, Missouri; one son, Brandon Licklider of St. James, Missouri; sister, Peggy DeJager of Sikeston, Missouri; aunt, Ruby Branson of Belle, Missouri; mother-in-law: Letty Licklider of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Phil was a 30-year retiree from Coca-Cola, a veteran of the Korean War, a 60-year member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Shriner of Moolah Temple and a 50-year member of the Shrine Services. Marie Reed Marie Reed formerly of St. James, Missouri was born on May 27, 1921 in Harviell, Missouri to George and Ollie (Norris) Barrett and passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Rest Haven Nursing Center in Sedalia, Missouri at the age of 91 years. Marie Barrett was united in marriage to James Reed on September 17, 1938, and to this union three children were born. Marie worked for California Manufacturing for 27 years. She then volunteered in the Senior Companion Program at the St. James Nursing Center. Marie was a longtime member of the First Assembly of God Church in St. James. She and James lived on the farm before moving to town. At the farm they always enjoyed a big garden and canning for the winter. Marie always loved to sew and quilt. She belonged to a quilting club, and lovingly made clothes and coats for her family. After moving to town she gave up the garden, instead turning her passion for growing into making her yard beautiful with lush and beautiful flower gardens. After her health started failing she made the decision to leave her home in St. James and move to Sedalia to be close to her children. Marie loved her family and her “baby” a miniature Pomeranian she called “Peaches.” Spending time with her children and grandchildren was something she looked forward to. Marie is survived by her children, Betty Fore of Sedalia, Missouri, Arthur Reed and wife Faith of Branson, Missouri, and James Reed and wife Kathy of Sedalia, Missouri; five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren; three nieces; a host of extended family and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her husband; and brother, Frank Barrett. Visitation was held Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. at the James & Gahr Mortuary. Elizabeth “Lizzy” Marie Short-Conway Elizabeth “Lizzy” Marie Short-Conway of Cuba, Missouri was born May 13, 1997 at Centerville, Illinois to Jerry Reeves Miller and Darlene Short and passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 15 years. Lizzy was an eighth grader at the Cuba Middle School. She spent hours texting, facebooking, talking on the phone, spending time with her friends and taking care of her little sisters. She collected Hello Kitty and attended Wednesday evening youth services at Flag Springs Christian Church in St. James, Missouri. Lizzy loved life, her family, her friends and her Lord. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Sheila Conway and her aunt, Christy Conway. She is survived by her parents, Darlene and Jerry Conway of Cuba, Missouri and Jerry Reeves Miller of Illinois; sisters, Lacie and Emily of Leasburg, Missouri; grandparents, Sandy and Leon Short of Cuba, Missouri and Jerry D. Destia Eileen Vaughn Destia Eileen Vaughn of California, Missouri was born to the union of William “Bill” and Frances (Crollay) Dewing on June 26, 1920 in St. James, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in California, Missouri at the age of 92 years. At the age of 11, she accepted Christ at Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis. She graduated from St. James High School, St. James, Missouri and was employed at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri. She married Noel Leroy Vaughn on December 16, 1939 in Cuba, Missouri. After his service in the U.S. Army they became members of Christy Memorial Methodist Church in St. Louis, where she served the church for 46 years as a Sunday School teacher, Children’s Superintendent, Chairperson of Missions and President of the United Methodist Women. She represented her church at “Church Women United of South St. Louis”, working as an officer. She was employed at Stange Manufacturing Jewelry Company for 25 years. She was Past Matron of Barbee Chapter #31, O.E.S. now Friendship Chapter #214, O.E.S. at the former Lambskin Temple and was a Past President of the Esther Club of St. Louis and St. Louis County. Later after moving to Cuba, Missouri, she joined Cuba Chapter #398, O.E.S. After their retirement, the couple moved to Cuba, Missouri and transferred their church membership to Cuba United Methodist Church. They volunteered at the Cuba Senior Center and delivered Meals on Wheels. After the death of her husband Eileen moved to California, Missouri to be near her daughter and joined the California Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Frances Dewing; husband, Noel L. Vaughn; sister and brother-in-law, Aldena and Elmer A. Keasling; son-in-law, Charles W. Parkes; brothers-in-law, Everett, Earl, Floyd, Lloyd, Wilbur and Elmer Vaughn; sister-in-law, Mae Vaughn. She is survived by two children, Darla Parkes of California, Missouri, Rev. Gerald and wife Jan Vaughn of Lawrence, Kansas; three grandchildren, Karen and husband Nick Studt, Sharon Parkes and Debra and husband Chris Dunham; three great grandchildren, Kendra and Landen Dunham, Zooey Vaughn; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles and wife Helen Vaughn, Imogene Vaughn all of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
