MO Local Obituaries for the Week of April 24, 2019 Ruby Loraine Barman Ruby Loraine Barman was born March 16, 1932 in Steelville to William and Ida Haffer and passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019 at the age of 87 years. After graduating from Steelville High School Ruby spent most of her working life in downtown St. Louis, Missouri working in banking. She was a devoted woman of faith and a long-time member of Maplewood Baptist Church. Ruby was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports on television, especially Cardinals baseball, figure skating competitions and the Olympics. She enjoyed collecting family photographs on her home computer and assembling albums for her loved ones. In the '90s she developed a fondness for traveling, something she regretted not doing earlier in life. She made up for the late start with two trips to Europe, a trip to South Korea, a cruise to Alaska and two vacations in Hawaii. As news of her passing spread, condolences and prayers were received from as far away as Paris and Seoul. Many of her favorite stories to tell were of her experiences while traveling with her husband, sons and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ida Haffer; one daughter, Janice Carol Gowers; two sons, Eugene Gowers and Gary Gowers; and one great great granddaughter, Angel Gowers. She is survived by her husband, William Barman, of St. Louis, Missouri; son, David Gowers and his wife Cielo Masado-Gowers of Sacramento, California; four grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Harvey Diedrich John Kahle Harvey Diedrich John Kahle of Hermann, Missouri was born in Owensville, Missouri on February 21, 1924 to Benjamin W. and Clara (Schulte) Kahle and passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the age of 95 years. Harvey married Melba M. Rohlfing on June 17, 1950 at the St. Paul's U.C.C. Church in Gerald, Missouri. He served his country in the Air Force during World War II from October 1942 to January 1946. He belonged to the Owensville Lodge No. 624 AF&AM and Fraternal Order of Eagles in Alton, Illinois. Harvey went to St. Louis College of Mortuary Science and to Moler School of Cosmetology and Barbering in the state of California. As a young man, he worked as a mortician in Owensville, Missouri and then later in St. Louis, Missouri as a mortician. He loved to dance and go to dances. He liked to fish and take care of his property. He kept in touch with his Air Force friends and went to their reunions out-of-state. He had been the secretary of the Owensville High School Alumni Association. He was an active member of Gasconade County Bible Society and had a prison ministry of delivering bibles to prisoners. He attended Hermann Christian Church and loved the Lord Jesus and was committed to serving him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Clara Kahle; wife, Melba Kahle; special friend, Marie Brinkmann; and brother, Marvin Kahle. He is survived by his sister, Pearl Brandenburger of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and friends. On September 12, 1946 in Steelville, Missouri Bonnie married Pete Lea. Bonnie was a member of the Steelville Presbyterian Church for 70+ years and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She spent many hours gardening and sewing for her family. Bonnie also clerked auctions for the Lea Auction Service and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed hunting, fishing with Pete and also traveling with him throughout the years. Wimpy grew up in Steelville, Missouri and attended Steelville Schools and later Valley Park Schools. He lived in Mt. Vernon, Illinois for 20 years and then moved back to Steelville in 1989. He accepted the Lord early in life and attended several Pentecostal churches over the years. He worked as an over the road truck driver for a while until he began working at KR Wilson in Sullivan, Missouri as a concrete plant manager. Wimpy was an avid hunter. He used to have hunting dogs and used to raise pheasants. He loved the outdoors, hunting for mushrooms and fishing. (nee Lay) Southard and passed away on April 16, 2019 at the age of 93 years. Betty was a proud 1942 graduate of East High School in Des Moines, Iowa and was retired from the IRS. Earlier in her career she worked at the original Kansas City location of Stonecroft, a religious organization that inspires women to share the Gospel with those around them. Betty was a world traveler who once walked on China's Great Wall and even visited Siberia. She was also an 80 year member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents F. Ernest and Golda Southard, both originally from the St. James, Missouri area; sister Mildred; brother, Wayne and former sister-in-law Helen Southard. Sadian Van Halen Stahl Sadian Van Halen Stahl of Steelville, Missouri was born Friday, February 6, 1998 at Rolla, Missouri and passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019 at the age of 21 years. Sadian was a 2016 Steelville High School graduate. After graduation he worked at a saw mill before going to work for the cell phone company assisting with work that was done on the towers. He was known for his beautiful blonde curls and his sense of humor, because he was always trying to make people laugh. He enjoyed engaging in an excellent conversation and he knew random facts about unusual things. Sadian spent hours listening to music, especially Rapper Eminem and old school rappers. He treasured his 1990's gold Lincoln Town Car. In his younger years he enjoyed the outdoors, playing soccer and his Nintendo 64. Brian was a member of the Painter's Union in St. Robert, Missouri. Brian used to raise chickens and did that for many years. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, trapping animals and gardening. He also enjoyed sitting and visiting with people in he and Barb's store, talking to friends at the coffee shop and telling stories. In June of 1963 he married Judy May Carr. Tom served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. He was employed as a union carpenter in St. Louis, Missouri for 36 years. He was also a member of the Steelville Country Club. Tom was a huge fan of NASCAR, enjoyed his farm as his hobby and fishing and shooting his guns.
