Billy Smith Abney
Billy Smith Abney of Viburnum, Mo. was born Thursday, February 7, 1907, a
son of the late Walter Abney and Bertha (Huff) Abney.
He entered eternal rest Monday, April 15, 2002, at the Stonecrest Health
Care, Viburnum, Mo., at the age of 95 years, 2 months and 12 days.
On March 10, 1934, at Goodwater, Mo., Smith was united in marriage to
Hallie Bays. Two sons were born to this union. They enjoyed over
sixty-eight years together.
In addition to his parents his only brother, Ellison Abney and wife Ivie;
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mabel and Earl Abney, Ray Mincher, and
Fern Lint preceded him in death.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving wife Hallie
Abney; two sons, Devound Abney and wife Erma and Kenneth Abney, all of
Viburnum, Mo.
Bothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gulenia Mincher of Cuba, Mo., Charles
Lint of Steelville, Mo., Hester and Harry Hutson of St. Louis, Mo.
Eight grandchildren also remain to mourn his passing, Ricky Abney and wife
Debbie of Florida, Michael Abney and wife Robby of Viburnum, Mo., Debbie
and husband Randy Skasick of Cuba, Mo., Kevin Abney and wife Kim of
Davisville, Mo., Jeff Abney of Steelville, Mo., Ron Abney and wife Jenny of
Owensville, Mo., Randy Abney of Fort Polk, Louisiana and Robin Abney of
Iowa; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
Billy Smith Abney lay in state 3-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2002, in the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Ken Wirtmiller and Rev. Cletis Nichols officiating. Dawn
Girard and Donna Nichols provided musical selections.
Committal prayers and interment were in Lower Indian Creek Cemetery,
Viburnum, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Abney, Michael Abney,
Michael Abney, Jr., Randy Abney, Ronnie Abney and Randy Skasick.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Marvin W. Valle
Lilith E. Valle
Marvin Walter Valle was born September 12, 1916, the son of Louis Thomas
Valle and Maggie May (Huff) Valle in Desloge, St. Francois Co., Mo.
Lilith Effa (Monroe) Valle was born May 20, 1914, the daughter of Frank
White Monroe and Effa Sena (Herod) Monroe in Desloge, St. Francois Co., Mo.
Marvin and Lilith both passed away April 17, 2002, he at 7:30 a.m. and she
at 9:30 a.m. at Heartfield's Assisted Living at Cary, North Carolina.
Marvin and Lilith were married September 8, 1939 in Farmington, Mo. and
were totally devoted to each other over the 62 years of their marriage.
They resided in Desloge and Bonne Terre until 1958 when they moved to
Bourbon and later Sullivan, Mo. They had lived at Heartfield Assisted
Living since January 15, 1999 having moved to Cary, N.C. in July 1998 to be
close to their daughter, Mary Ann, and family.
Marvin was employed by St. Joseph Lead Company and Meramec Mining Co. for
40 years as an accountant.
Marvin was preceded in death by an infant sibling; and an infant brother,
James Mathias Monroe preceded Lilith in death. An infant granddaughter,
Laura Anne Crist and Marvin's brother, Delbert L. Valle, preceded both in
death.
Survivors of Marvin and Lilith include daughters Mary Ann (Dr. Ronald)
Keeney, Raleigh, N.C. and Helen (Dr. William) Crist, Columbia, Mo.;
grandchildren Susie Keeney, Cary, Karen (Cesar) Agama, Raleigh, Kristen
Spruill, Cary, and Brian Crist, Millington, Tennessee; great-grandchildren
Brandy, Sarah and Rebecca Spruill, Maria Keeney, all of Cary, Joshua Keeney
and Michael Agama of Raleigh and sister-in-law, Mary Jo (Puryear) Valle,
Madison, Tennessee and sister and sister-in-law, Lucille (Monroe) Bennett,
Chesterfield, Mo.
Also surviving are nephew, Daniel (Mary Alison) Valle of Hockessin,
Delaware; nieces, Luann (Valle) Conner, Hendersonville, Tennessee and Kathy
(Bennett) Seitrich, St. Louis, Mo.; great nieces and nephews, cousins and
friends.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 20, 2002 at
Heartfield's at Cary, 1050 Crescent Green Drive, Cary, N.C. Interment will
be at a later date at the IOOF Cemetery, Park Hills, Mo. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made payable to: University of MO-Columbia with
the notation of designation to: Marvin W. and Lilith E. Valle Scholarship
Fund, Sue Dunkin, One Hospital Drive, DC205.00, Columbia, MO 65212 (a fund
for University of MO medical students based on financial need) or to:
Hospice of Wake County, Inc., 1300 St. Mary's Street, 4th Floor, Raleigh,
NC 27605.

William Everett Woods
William Everett Woods was born June 20, 1911 at Leasburg, Mo., to the union
of Newt and Stella Woods (nee Land) and passed away April 14, 2002 at the
age of 90 years, 9 months and 24 days.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents, Newt and Stella Woods, his
wife, Josephine Emma Woods (nee Brown), two brothers, Donald Woods and Roy
Woods, three sisters, Edna Callahan, Alma Eye and Lucy Long, three
brothers-in-law Johnny Eye, Dan Long and Carter Callahan.
March 21, 1938 Everett was united in marriage to Josephine Emma Brown at
Flat River, Mo. To this union three children were born, Walter Woods,
Bennie Woods and Sue King.
Everett was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and
brother, besides being a good friend to all who knew him. He will be sadly
missed.
June 1, 1991, Everett was united in marriage to Tessie Kraft.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his wife Tessie
Woods of the family home; two sons, Walter Woods and wife Phyllis of
Sullivan, Mo.; Bennie Woods and wife Virginia, also of Sullivan, Mo.; one
daughter Sue King and husband James of Leasburg, Mo.; five grandchildren,
Rev. Terry King and wife Sherry, Rev. Kenny Woods and wife Doris, Brenda
Stephens and husband Steve, Mary Jo Pratt and fiancé Sean Perez, and Donald
Woods; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother Robert Woods and wife Mary
Lou of St. Clair, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Adele Brown of Imperial, Mo. and
Sadie Woods of Sullivan, Mo.; five stepchildren, ten step-grandchildren and
thirteen step great-grandchildren.
Everett was saved at an early age and is a member of the First Southern
Baptist Church of Leasburg, Mo.
William Everett Woods was in state at the Britton Funeral Home in Cuba, Mo.
Funeral services were held at the First Southern Baptist Church in
Leasburg, Mo. on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Terry King
and Rev. Kenny Woods officiating. Interment was in the Lea Cemetery,
Leasburg, Mo.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo. Memorials may be given to the First Southern Baptist Church
Parking Lot Fund.
