MO Local Obituaries for the Week of April 26, 2017 Lois Jean Barnhart Lois Jean Barnhart of Bland, Missouri was born to Joseph and Mary Ruth (Peck) McWilliams on September 21, 1932 in Troy, Ohio and passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the age of 84 years. From 1943-1946, Lois was proud to be a member of the Troy, Ohio Junior Girls Canteen Services. The girls provided canteen services to thousands of soldiers during World War II. Lois was united in marriage to Willis "Bud" Barnhart on October 27, 1951 and to this union five children were born. Together for several years, Bud and Lois owned and operated B&L Distributors in Urbana, Ohio. They were the distributors of Kersun Heaters. They later would move to their beautiful farm in Bland, Missouri, where Lois enjoyed being a homemaker, reading, collecting nick knacks, gardening, shopping and spoiling her children, grand- children and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Ruth McWilliams; and one sister, Phyllis Emswiler. She is survived by her husband, Willis "Bud" Barnhart of Bland, Missouri; five children, Denise and husband Ron Baker of Cuba, Missouri, Elaine and husband Jim VanTilburgh of St. James, Missouri, Peggy and husband Garry Goss of Bedford, Pennsylvania, Ron and wife Stacy Barnhart of St. Paris, Ohio and Joe Barnhart of Urbana, Ohio; one brother, Harold McWilliams of Ocala, Florida; 14 grand- children; 17 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Merriann Cross Merriann Cross was born in Washington, Missouri on Friday, November 20, 1942 to David Jesse and Hortense Dawn Allan Cross and passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 28 days. Merriann accepted the Lord at the age of 30 and attended Pentecostal churches. She loved to share about her faith in Christ with others. She enjoyed drawing and painting, especially landscapes. She had an attraction for angel figurines. She was a Star Trek fan. While at Lifecare Center in Sullivan, Missouri she enjoyed playing bingo. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Hortense Cross; children, David Morgan Shortt and Joe Shortt; and sister, Judy Collings. She is survived by her children, Hersal "Keith" Shortt Jr. of Tipton, Indiana, Angel Simmons of Sullivan, Missouri, Jessie "Brad" Shortt and Andrew Shortt, both of Bourbon, Missouri; sisters, Florence (Delbert) Merritt of St. Louis, Missouri, Colleen (Glendell) Shortt of Augusta, Missouri and Nancy (Don) Nelson of St. Louis, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Barbara Jean Dwyer Barbara Jean Dwyer of St. James, Missouri was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 3, 1942 to Orville and Margaret (Oelze) Koch and passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 at the age of 75 years. Barbara Jean was united in marriage to Larry Dwyer on June 16, 1962. Larry and Barbara moved to St. James, Missouri in 1990. She enjoyed reading, cooking and mowing grass, she really loved it when she got a zero turn mower. Most importantly was the love she had for her family, which now included grandchildren, and eventually great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Margaret Koch; daughter, Careen Dwyer; and sister, Sandra Bryant. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Larry Dwyer; daughter, Lori Helling and husband Jeff of St. Charles, Missouri; grand- children, Kristen Myrick and Lindsey Helling; great-grandchildren, Cullen Myrick, Ridley Myrick and Graham Myrick; other relatives and friends. Funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 with Father Judge officiating. Internment was in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery. George William Grady George William Grady of Cuba, Missouri was born to Bernard and Eva Jeanne Grady on June 26, 1940 in Portageville, Missouri and passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the age of 76 years. George was a 1958 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School and a 1962 graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology with a degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering. He married Judith (Strahl) Grady on December 1, 1962; they met on a blind date setup by the local Episcopalian minister (although George was a lifelong Methodist!). George started his career at the Missouri Inspection Bureau (currently the Insurance Service Organization) and then moved on to Kemper Insurance for a short time. Finally, from 1975-1995 he was employed at RR Donnelley and Sons in Chicago, Illinois, where he eventually became the Corporate Safety Director. In his role with RR Donnelley, he travelled extensively to plant sites all over the world to oversee safety procedures at each location. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois for the majority of his professional life. George was a former member of Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Wheaton, Illinois and a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church. He was a passionate Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed taking his boat on the lake, especially with his grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard C. Grady; and one brother-in-law, Dr. Carl Clanahan. He is survived by his wife, Judith of Cuba, Missouri; mother, Eva Jeanne Grady of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; two children, Dr. Brian (Gina) Grady of Norman Oklahoma and Patty (Andrew) of Elmhurst, Illinois: 10 grandchildren, Ian, Nate and Luke Grady, Forest, Owen and Boomer Myers, all of Norman, Oklahoma, Quinn and Aidan Rafferty of Elmhurst, Illinois, Maclyn (Kristen) Myers of Goldsboro, North Carolina and Chris (Kassy) Malone of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one great-grandchild, Mason Malone; two sisters, Julia Clanahan and Mary (Bill) Humble, both of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; brothers, Robert (Jo Ann) Grady of Cuba, Missouri, Bruce (Marlene) Grady and Mike Grady of Houston, Texas; other relatives and friends. Barrett M. "Barry" Houseman Barrett M. "Barry" Houseman of Cuba, Missouri was born October 9, 1946 at Chesterfield, Missouri to Marion and Alice (nee Miller) Houseman and passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the age of 70 years. Barry served in the United States Army from 18 April 1967 to 30 March 1969. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Sharp Shooter M-14 and the Driver Wheel Badge. On April 7, 1979 Barry married Carolyn M. Buettner. Barry worked for 20 plus years at Echo Supply in Cuba, Missouri and for the last 10 years he worked as a meat cutter and shelf stocker at Mace's Supermarket. In his spare time he enjoyed deer, squirrel and mushroom hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Barry was a devout member and former deacon of the Faith Chapel Assembly of Cuba, Missouri for the last 38 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Alice Houseman; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Spurgeon and David Buettner. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carolyn M. Jean Kuenz Jean Kuenz (nee Stout) of St. James, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri, was born in St. Louis, Missouri on Sunday, November 15, 1931 to George and Dorothy (Boldt) Stout and passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 30 days. Jean accepted the Lord and attended Immaculate Conception Church in St. James, Missouri. She married Urban Kuenz on June 15, 1963 in Rosati, Missouri. She was a former member of the Friendship Club of Rosati, Missouri. She was a member of the Ladies Guild at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Steelville, Missouri for many years. She was a member of an art club where she took painting classes and ceramic classes. She enjoyed painting outdoor scenery. She was actively involved in all aspects of the farm she and her husband operated, which included cattle and a grape vineyard. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Stout; parents-in-law, Ray B. and Frances Kuenz; sisters, Betty Wright and Judy (Richard) Stewart; brothers-in-law, Ray (Barbara) Kuenz, Paul J. Kuenz, Frank (Isolene) Kuenz, Michael Kuenz, Richard Kuenz and Thomas Kuenz. Thomas Kenneally O'Day Thomas Kenneally O'Day of St. James, Missouri was born on December 20, 1950 in Springfield, Missouri to Alexander Clement and Mary Louise Owen O'Day and passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the age of 66 years, 3 months and 24 days. Thomas was a farmer and loved the outdoors. Tom loved to hunt, fish and trap. Thomas was in the military and served his country proudly. Rome William H. Rome of St. Louis, Missouri passed away February 14, 2017. He was the husband of Bertha (nee Stein) Rome, formerly of Cuba, Missouri. Bill was a retired mail carrier. He and Bertha had many hobbies and loved to travel. Visitation was held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at the Kutis Affton Chapel with service at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Kutis Affton Chapel.
