Bertha Mae Allen
Bertha Mae Allen, 99, of Cuba, Missouri passed away at
home on Friday, April 21, 2006. She was born February 23, 1907 in
Coldwater, Missouri.
She was married to Nevil Vaughn who preceded her in
death in 1950, and she later married Alfred Allen. Bertha and Alfred
Allen moved to Cuba, Missouri in 1954 and were long time residents
of Cuba, Missouri. Alfred preceded her in death in 1981.
She is survived by three daughters, Paulette Gamblin of
Seymour, Missouri, Dortha Strawn of Valley Park, Missouri and Joan
Pennick of Cuba, Missouri; one son, Nevil Vaughn Jr. and wife Helen
of Ocala, Florida; 23 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren and 22
great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by two grandsons, Greg and
Scott Vaughn; three sisters, Annie Lindhorst, Flo Widemeier and
Billie Jo Wilcox; three brothers, Vernon, Bumon and Bond Ray and one
son-in-law, Bud Strawn.
She will be remembered for her love of her children,
grandchildren, brothers, sisters and many other family members and
friends.
Bertha was a member of First Baptist Church of Cuba,
Missouri.
Visitation was held Monday, April 24, 2006 from 5-8 p.m.
at Britton Funeral Home, Cuba. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with
Pastor Bob Knight officiating. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons
and great grandsons.
Family is being served by Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
Woodrow Wilson Blunt
Woodrow Wilson Blunt passed away on April 22, 2006, in
St. Louis, Missouri. He was born in Butts, Missouri, on November 8,
1912 to the union of Thomas L. Blunt and Nellie Collins Blunt.
He was married to Anna M. Walker on December 24, 1933
and they had one son, Wayne W. Blunt of Steelville, Missouri, who is
married to Rosemary Blunt. Anna Blunt predeceased him on September
7, 1980.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers,
Bill Blunt and Clyde Blunt and two sisters, Mabel Summers and Eileen
(Charlie) Ott.
He was married to Mary Reimler on November 12, 1981. He
spent his working life as a machinist in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was a member of Marvin Park United Methodist Church
of St. Louis, Missouri.
He was very active in the Masonic order. He served as
Worshipful Master of Lebanon Lodge #77 in 1975; he was High Priest
of Missouri Chapter #1 Royal Arch Masons, District Deputy Grand High
Priest of Region 5 for two years, Grand Lecturer of Royal Arch
Masons for three years, and Deputy Lecturer of Region 5 for five
years. He was District Grand Deputy, Grand Sentinel, Grand Warder,
Grand Conductor, Deputy Lecturer, a member of the Silver Trowel,
Commander of Ascalon Commandery, member of Past Commanders'
Association.
He was a member of Red Cross of Constantine and Puissant
Sovereign of Red Cross of Constantine. He belonged to Knights of
York Cross of Honor, St. John's High Twelve, Wardens and Masters
Club of Greater St. Louis, Past President of York Rite Council Club,
Moolah Temple Shrine, South County Shrine Club and South County Golf
Unit.
Surviving are his wife, Mary of St. Louis, Missouri and
one son, Wayne and wife Rosemary of Steelville, Missouri; step son,
Eric Reimler and friend Leslie Farrow of California; nephew Bob
Mullen and step daughter, Lois Mullen of California; step daughter
Elaine Reimler of St. Louis, Missouri; step grandson Shawn Mullen of
California and step great granddaughter, Lily Mullen of California;
and many nieces and nephews.
Warder Throne Bremer
Warder Throne Bremer, life long resident and owner of
Bremer Hardware in Bourbon, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday,
April 19, 2006 at the age of 80 years.
Warder was born February 2, 1926 in Bourbon, Missouri,
to Lawrence Throne and Susie Lee (nee Warder) Bremer. After
graduating from Bourbon High School, Warder entered the U.S. Navy in
1944 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He has been a member of
American Legion Post 81 for 56 years.
Warder married Alice Ruth Crawford on January 28, 1950;
they were the first couple to be married at the new Concordia
Lutheran Church and to this union four children were born.
Warder grew up in the hardware store and later became
heir and owner; active in its operation until his death.
He was honored as the "Citizen of the Year" by House of
Representative Francis Overschmidt of the Missouri House District
110. Warder was also a member of the Bourbon Booster Club for 50
plus years, Chairman of the City Park Board for 40 years, an
alderman, school board member, grand master in the Fall Festival
Parade, volunteer for BSA, summer ball leagues, St. Louis Civil War
Roundtable, countless local projects, Sunday School teacher and
president of Concordia Lutheran Church Council.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice; two sons,
Vaughn C. Bremer and wife Donna of Manchester, Missouri and Randolph
T. Bremer and wife Cathy of Bourbon, Missouri; two daughters, Linnea
L. Caldon and husband Mike of Independence, Kentucky and Monica C.
Sagehorn and husband Steve of Cuba, Missouri; a sister, Brenda
Armstrong and husband Leonard of Bourbon, Missouri; brother-in-law,
Alfred Crawford of Bourbon, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; six great
grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Warder Bremer were conducted at 11
a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2006 from Concordia Lutheran Church with
Pastor Matt Schaefer officiating. Interment was the in Bourbon
Cemetery with full military honors.
All arrangements are under the care of the Eaton Funeral
Home.
Anna Theresa Filippi
Anna Theresa Filippi (nee Schaljo) of Cuba, Missouri,
formerly of South St. Louis, Missouri, was born May 31, 1913 to the
union of Mathias Schaljo and Anna Schaljo (nee Mueller) and left
from this life on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the age of 92 years,
10 months and 18 days.
Anna was united in marriage to Joseph Filippi in St.
Louis, Missouri on February 25, 1934 and to this union one son was
born, Joseph F. Filippi.
Anna was a homemaker and a former parishioner of Sts.
Mary & Joseph Catholic Church in South St. Louis, Missouri
Anna is preceded in death by her parents and husband,
Joseph Filippi.
Those who survive to mourn her passing is her son,
Joseph F. (Carol) Filippi; three grandchildren, Laura (Mark) Lackey,
Joseph E. Filippi and James M. Filippi; seven great grandchildren,
Jennifer Mueller, Jessica Zelkovich, Jeremy and Elizabeth Lackey,
Tyler, Brittany and Alyssa Filippi; four great great grandchildren,
Caleb and Joshua Mueller, Carolyn Zelkovich and Devon Throop.
Visitation was held Friday, April 21, 2006 from 9-11
a.m. at Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was held Friday, April 21 at 2:30 p.m.
at St. Marcus Mausoleum Chapel, St. Louis, Missouri.
Interment in St. Marcus Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri.
Edna Hempe Macy
Edna Hempe-Macy, nee Bickelhaupt was born June 19, 1908
at Waterloo, Illinois and passed away at her home in New Smyrna
Beach, Florida on April 20, 2006.
Edna was united in marriage to George Hempe in Waterloo,
Illinois. One son, George, was born to this union. George, Sr.
preceded her in death in 1968 in St. Louis, Missouri. Edna was
united in marriage to Charles Macy in Steelville, Missouri in 1971.
Charles preceded her in death in 1984. Her son George preceded Edna
in death in 1993 and grandson, Matthew in 1973 and granddaughter,
Monica in 1996.
Those who survive her passing from this life are her
loving daughter-in-law Emily; five grandchildren Michael, San Diego,
California, Mark and wife Kathryn, Murray and wife Janet, Marcya
Wantuch and husband Joseph all of Florida and Maria Tate and husband
Bill of Cuba, Missouri; 11 great grandchildren; nine great great
grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew, cousins and many friends.
Terry Douglas Halfaker
Terry Douglas Halfaker of Bourbon, Missouri passed away
April 14, 2006 at the Cuba Manor Nursing Home in Cuba, Missouri. He
was 61 years and 9 months of age.
Terry was born July 15, 1944 at Bourbon, Missouri, the
son of the late Charles Daniel Halfaker and Alma (Jones) Halfaker.
Three children, Frances Eloise Dildine and husband
Mickey, Terri Lynn Compton and a son Douglas Edward Halfaker and
wife Becky, all of Sullivan, Missouri survive Terry. He had six
grandchildren.
He has a surviving brother, Charles Donald Halfaker
(Shirley Marie) of Leasburg, Missouri; sisters, Janice Cartwright of
Bourbon, Missouri and Patricia Eloise Robinson (Billy) of Cuba,
Missouri and one aunt, Louise (Halfaker) Souders of Cuba, Missouri.
Those who also mourn his passing are many nieces,
nephews and cousins, a host of friends, and special friend Viola
Wymer of Bourbon, Missouri.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one
brother, Dwight Halfaker; sister-in-law, Dorothea Halfaker and
brother-in-law, Clyde Cartwright.
Graveside services were conducted at the Bourbon
Cemetery in Bourbon, Missouri, April 22, 2006 by Rev, Jack Shepard,
pastor of the Bible Baptist Church of Cuba, Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Jones
Funeral Home of St. James, Missouri.
Jessie "Bunny" L. Smith
Jessie "Bunny" Louise Smith nee Delaney of Leasburg,
Missouri was born on Monday, April 17, 1933 in Leasburg, Missouri to
John Enist Delaney and Jessie Louise Hayden Delaney. She passed away
on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the age of 72 years, 11 months, and
28 days.
She was born on Easter in 1933, so her father nicknamed
her Bunny. She attended elementary school in Leasburg; then
completed high school in Sullivan, Missouri.
After graduation she moved to California to live with
relatives and worked for 40 years as secretary at the A-1 Surface
Grinding Aircraft Manufacturing plant in Huntington Park,
California. Her hobbies were sewing, word games and crossword
puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands;
brother, James Delaney and an infant brother.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her brothers,
John Delaney and wife Rose of St. Louis, Missouri and Joseph Martin
Delaney of Leasburg, Missouri; special caregiver Donna Campbell and
family; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Private family graveside service was at 11 a.m.
Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery,
Leasburg, Missouri.
All arrangements under the direction of the Hutson
Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.
