MO Local Obituaries for the Week of April 29, 2010 Rebecca Ann Davis Rebecca Ann Davis nee Goodman was born Sunday, September 16, 1923 in Davies Co., Kentucky to William and Roseanne Davis and passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 6 days. Rebecca married Jimmie Davis on October 18, 1963 in East St. Louis, Illinois. She and Jimmie made their home together in St. Louis, Missouri where they managed a trailer park until 1974. They bought property in Cherryville, Missouri in 1972 and moved there in 1974 after retiring. Rebecca and Jimmie ran the Steelville Laundry Mat next to Schwieder Ford from 1983 to 1985. They then moved to Owensboro, Kentucky in 1988 to be near family until his siblings passed away. They then moved back to Steelville, Missouri to be closer to their foster grandchildren, Lisa and Jim Davis and their families. Rebecca’s hobbies were playing bingo, traveling, hunting and fishing. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Roseanne Davis and husband, Jimmie who passed away January 8, 2009. She is survived by her foster grandchildren, Lisa (Jim) Davis of Steelville, Missouri; foster great grandchildren, Crystal (Tommy) Cox, Jason (Jessica) Bryant, and Rusty (Kayla) Davis, all of Steelville, Missouri and Carl (Jamie) Davis of Cherryville, Missouri; foster great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating. Burial was in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. David Roland Hawkins David Roland Hawkins of Cuba, Missouri was born to John C. and Edna (Edsel) Hawkins on July 10, 1920 in Richwoods, Missouri and passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010 in his home at the age of 89 years. Roland was united in marriage to Anna Belle Nickelson on March 2, 1942 and to this union four children were born. Roland was a graduate of Washington University and obtained a degree in Business/Finance. He retired as a General Foreman from Ford Motor Company in St. Louis, Missouri after many years of service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII. In his spare time he enjoyed golf, horseshoes, gardening, mowing the lawn, camping with his grandkids and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edna Hawkins; one brother, Quentin Hawkins; one sister, Eileen Leykam and other relatives. He is survived by his wife, Anna Belle Hawkins of the home; four children, Michele Higbee of Dallas, Texas, Michael and wife Pat Hawkins of St. Louis, Missouri, Pamela and husband Dr. William Cottingham of Rolla, Missouri, John and wife Pam Hawkins of St. Peters, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Julie Metheny, David Cottingham, Janie Williams, Kevin Higbee, Patrick, Brittany, Andrea and Brett Hawkins; five great grandchildren, Gavin and Blake Cottingham, Jace and AnnaBelle Williams, Eva Leigh Metheny; other relatives and friends. A memorial visitation was held on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 11 a.m. until time of memorial service 11:30 a.m. at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba with Rev. R. Lee Jennings, officiating. Inurnment followed at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri at 2:30 p.m. with full military honors. Arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Russell Isaiah Oller Jr. Russell Isaiah Oller Jr. was born July 4, 1929 in Oak Park, Illinois and passed away April 13, 2010 at Salem, Missouri at the age of 80 years. On September 10, 1955, Russell was united in marriage to Marcia Hill and to this marriage three children were born. Russell enjoyed farming, gardening, canoeing and camping. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Isaiah Oller Sr. and Genevieve (Sedmiradsky) Oller and one sister, Carol Reuter. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Oller of Salem, Missouri; three children, Debby Green and husband Dale of Waterford, Connecticut, George Oller and wife Julie of Des Plaines, Illinois and Russell Oller III and wife Pam of Salem, Missouri; one sister, Sharon Oller of St. James, Missouri; five grandchildren, Bobby Oller, Daniel Green, Russell Oller IV, David Green and Kayla Oller. Funeral service was Tuesday, April 20, 2010 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Bro. Jeff Fulk, Harlan Hamilton and Warren Taylor officiating. Music was by William and Velma Rohrer. Special memories were shared by his daughter, Debby Green and other family and friends. Pallbearers were Frances Blecha, Jeffrey Harrison, Jack Peters, Daniel Green, Russell Oller IV and David Green. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Graham, Jim Purcell Colin and Kenneth Harrison. Interment was in the Gladden Empire Cemetery with full military honors. Donna Lea Randall Donna Lea Randall of Steelville, Missouri was born on Saturday, July 29, 1933 in Rock Island County, Illinois to Robert Connolly and Dorthea Brandenburg Connolly and passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 26 days. Donna married Benjamin Horton Randall on May 13, 1977 in Rock Island Co, Illinois. She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Cuba, Missouri and enjoyed reading her Bible. Her hobby was cooking and reading cookbooks. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Bruce Connolly. She is survived by her husband, Benjamin Randall; children, Cynthia (Spike) Rucker of San Antonio, Texas, Renee (Gene) Merideth of Illinois City, Illinois, John Jones of Davenport, Iowa, and Ronda (Phillip) Roberson of Denton, Texas; brother, Bob (Wilma) Connally of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; sister, Phyllis Pegg of Milan, Illinois; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; other relatives and friends. A private graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the Davisville Cemetery, Davisville, Missouri. Edward Sherfy of St. James, Missouri was born March 28, 1928 in Madison, Illinois to Cecil and Blanche (Steel) Sherfy and passed away April 22 at the Golden Living Center in St. James, Missouri at the age of 82 years. Edward was united in marriage to Anna Konieczny on November 24, 1951 and to this union five children were born. Ed was a heavy equipment operator for 65 years; he loved to work and loved to play. He was known as “the joker,” he loved to pull practical jokes on everyone. Ed loved to dance and spent time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Blanche Sherfy and grandson, Josh Sherfy. He is survived by his wife Anne, of the home; children, Dee Southard and husband JR of Vichy, Missouri, Nancy Pittman and husband Eric of Nashville, Tennessee, Gail Sherfy of St. James, Missouri, Annette Bauer and husband Gary of St. James, Missouri, Doug Sherfy and wife Lisa of St. James, Missouri; brother, Duke Sherfy of Shellknob, Missouri; sisters, Virginia Dubuque of Shellknob, Missouri, Leda Eiring of Ellisville, Missouri; grandchildren, Christy, Dustin, Jennifer, Nicole, Cassie, Sonya, Alanna, Brandon, Justin, and Alexis; five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Leo Dean Wilson Leo Dean Wilson of St. James, Missouri was born June 3, 1940 in Scott County, Illinois to Leo Charles and Mildred “Lucille” (Coultas) Wilson and passed away April 20, 2010 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri at the age of 69 years. Leo proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Leo served for 20 years as a Dental Technician on the USS Tarawa before his retirement in 1978. Leo enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. After the death of his son Scott, Leo took the role of a “surrogate father to Nicklaus.” He went to his games and practices watching football, baseball, and wrestling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Lucille Wilson; sons, Leo Dean Wilson JR, Chester Lewis Scott Wilson; sisters, Mary, Lois, and twins Ruth and Ruby. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Keck of King George, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Patricia Wilson of St. James, Missouri; grandchildren, Nicklaus Wilson, Collin and Caitlin Blake, and Victoria Wilson; other relatives and friends.
