MO Local Obituaries for the Week of May 11, 2000 Inez Pearl Halbert Inez Pearl Halbert (nee Day) was born Sunday, September 10, 1911, at Woodston, Kansas, a daughter of the late Henry and Ann (Lambert) Day. She entered eternal rest Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at the Cox Medical Center, Springfield, Mo., at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 23 days. On March 19, 1930 at Stockton, Kansas, Inez was united in marriage to Sion B. (Sleepy) Halbert; son of Osco L. Halbert and Elizabeth (Sanders) Halbert. One son, Marvin, and three daughters, Ervene, Ardell and Betty Ann, were born to this union. They enjoyed over fifty-eight years together before his death, April 2, 1988. Inez taught public school for one year before becoming a full time mother and homemaker extraordinaire. She was a member of Steelville Presbyterian Church and Martha and Mary OES #364, and was homemaker of the year of her Extension Club in 1983. She lived in Steelville for over sixty years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Chesney, Sylvia Reed and Dora Tustison and one brother, James Day; son-in-law Bill Hicks, and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Garrett Halbert, Maude Simily, Gladys Hubler, and Josephine Munton. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her loving son, Marvin Halbert and wife Mary Jane of Apache Junction, Arizona; three devoted daughters, Ervene Hicks, also of Apache Junction, Arizona, Ardell and husband Ralph Viehman of Garland, Texas, Betty Ann and husband Dale Stevenson of Springfield, Mo.; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; and sister-in-law Ollie Halbert of Cherryville, Mo. Inez Pearl Halbert lay in state 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. with Eastern Star Memorial Services 7:00 p.m., Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2000, at the Steelville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charles D. Likely officiating. Musical selections were provided by organist Deloris Bell and vocalist Georgia Beth Barksdale. Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers were Doug Matchell, Jeff Matchell, Mike Hicks, Jordan Hobbs, Mike Halbert, and Dale Fornander. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Philip Marion Echols Philip Marion Echols was born on January 7, 1921 in McRay, Arkansas to Henry Wilson Echols and Alma Veda Edwards Echols, and passed away on April 29, 2000 at his home in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 79 years, 3 months, and 22 days. Philip was a lifelong resident of Crawford County. He attended school at Cuba. On May 2, 1941 Philip was united in marriage to Deloris Cason in Cuba, MO and to this union 7 children were born. Philip worked in the Timber Industry all his life. He was a logger for much of his career. Philip owned and operated two stave mills with his five sons. He also worked in various places across the country setting up stave mills. He was a family man who dearly loved children. He was an avid reader and stock car race fan. He was preceeded in death by his parents, one son Les Echols, and one grand son-in-law Matthew Toole. Philip is survived by his dear wife Deloris Echols of Cuba, Missouri; his children, Phil Echols and wife Betty of Cuba, Marcella Beneke and husband Owen of Owensville, Mike Echols and wife Wanda of Cuba, Ray Echols and wife Riva of Cuba, Dee Fox and husband Chester of Cuba, and Jerry Echols and wife Carol of Cuba. Daughter-in-law Connie Echols of Cuba; one brother Melvin Echols and wife Mary Lou of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law John and Maxine Cason of Adair, OK, Tom Cason of Lynn, MA, Marcella and Bob Goodman of Phoenix, AZ, Betty and Ray Simpson of St. Louis, MO, Ria Sue and Lloyd Swyers of St. James, MO, Jerry and Pat Manley of Belle, MO, Ted and Leona Cason of Kansas City, Mo, and Judy Wilson of Fort Worth, TX. Twenty grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; nephews, other relatives and many other friends, all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Philip M. Echols. Visitation was held on Monday, May 1, 2000 at Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, MO from 6-9 p.m. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2000 at Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, MO with Rev. Lloyd Swyers officiating. Burial was in the Licklider Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Memorials may be given to BJC Hospice in memory of Philip M. Echols. All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri. Barbara Jean Hana Barbara Jean Hana, nee Scantlan, 73, of Alamogordo, NM passed away at Vencor Southwest Hospital after injuries due to an accident on January 8, 2000 Barbara was born October 22, 1926, in Chandler, OK, the daughter of George and Nina Scantlan, who preceded her in death. She was married to Harvie Lee Hana on December 25, 1943. Lee survives in the hospital in Ft. Worth, TX. She was a graduate of Cuba High School. She was formerly employed as a switchboard operator by Bell Telephone and later as a clerk at Sears. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alamogordo, NM. She was active in her church, in the choir, playing the piano for the senior choir of that church and also in helping out other churches who were in need of a pianist. Barbara and Lee loved to travel and had visited 11 foreign countries, as well as seeing much of our United States. Survivors include one son, Jerry Lee Hana and wife Delta, two grandchildren, Stephanie and Ryan all of Abilene, TX. Five brothers, Clyde and Jerry of Sullivan, MO, Walter of Harrisburg, IL, Donald of Lake City, FL, and George of Jefferson City, MO. She will be greatly missed by her family members and many friends. Memorial services will be held at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Leasburg, MO on May 11, at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. George Scantlan officiating. Burial will be at Lick Creek Cemetary. Decia Z. Baumgartner Lineback Decia Z. Baumgartner Lineback, nee James, of Cuba, Missouri was born on December 19, 1910 in Vichy, Missouri to the union of Lee and Nancy James nee Tune and passed away on April 29, 2000 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 10 days. Decia was preceded in death by her parents. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving children Terry Baumgartner and wife Nancy; daughter Ruby Hines; two step sons Jimmy Cook, Ivan Baumgartner and wife Helen; step daughter Iva Kearns; three sisters Freeda Ross, Myrtle Matlock, Marie Moreland and husband Roland. Four grandchildren; four great grand children; two great great grandchildren; ten step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Decia was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Decia Z. Baumgartner Lineback nee James was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Friday, May 5, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. with Brother Gerald Goff officiating. Pallbearers were Dave Lewis, Bill Hines, Daryl Baumgartner, Kris Baumgartner, Michael George and Lance Baumgartner. Interment was in the Macedonia Cemetery, Rolla, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Herschel Lloyd Kaysinger Herschel Lloyd Kaysinger was born Sunday, April 23, 1933, at Huzzah, Mo., a son of the late Otis VanBuren Kaysinger and Hattie Francis Kaysinger (nee Usery). He entered eternal rest Friday, April 28, 2000, in St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 67 years and 5 days. On June 7, 1959, Herschel was united in marriage to Marvell Ives. Two sons, Larry and Dean were born to this union. They have enjoyed over forty years together. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Doyle Kaysinger and wife Sarah, Troied Kaysinger, Don Kaysinger, and Norris Wilkinson and wife Glyde; two sisters Neva and husband John Brown, Thelma and husband George Fenwick; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ken Turnbough, Wilma and Russell Ottmer, Maurice Zumwalt, Luther Bouse, and Herles Ives. Herschel served his country in the United States Army, from 1953 to 1957 and received an honorable discharge April 1961. After his retirement and moving to Steelville, he was active in community affairs, Masonic Lodge and sold real estate for several years. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Marvell of the home in Steelville, Mo.; two sons, Larry Kaysinger and wife Marsha of Fenton, Mo., Dean Kaysinger and wife Suzanne of Ballwin, Mo.; one grandson, Matt Kaysinger and one granddaughter, Megan Kaysinger of Fenton, Mo. One sister, Helen Turnbough of Steelville, Mo.; one brother, Oman Kaysinger and wife Genevie of Brush Prairie, Washington; one half-sister, Rowena Zumwalt of St. Louis, Mo. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Aldine Kaysinger of Bourbon, Mo., Virginia Kaysinger of St. Louis, Mo., Hallie Bouse of Steelville, Mo., Don and Marcella Ives, Norma Jean Belt, Betty Perrigue, all of Cuba, Mo., Ansley 'Hank' and Berniece Ives of Florissant, Mo., Belle Ives of St. Louis, Mo. and Hazel Douglas of Salem, Mo. Herschel Lloyd Kaysinger lay in state after 3:00 p.m. with Masonic Services 7:00 p.m.; conducted by Lebanon Lodge #77 AF and AM, Steelville, Mo., Sunday, April 30, 2000, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Edward Bone officiating. Musical selections were provided by organist Judy Light and vocalists, Harlene Sampson, Karen Hane, and Bruce Turnbough. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. Full military honors (Firing Team, Taps, Flag Folding and Presentation) were provided by Missouri Central Region Military Honors Program from Jefferson City, Mo.
