Eula Bernice Carl
Eula Bernice Carl nee Payne was born Tuesday, July 24, 1917 at Viburnum,
Missouri, a daughter to the late Charles Payne and Eura (Mincher) Payne.
Bernice entered eternal rest Sunday, May 2, 2004 while at Stone Crest
Health Care in Viburnum, Missouri at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 8
days.
On August 16, 1933, Bernice was united in marriage to Reldon Carl in
Viburnum, Missouri. They enjoyed over 60 wonderful years together until
Reldon's passing on March 28, 1994. From this union, five sons and five
daughters were born.
Bernice professed her faith in Jesus Christ and attended Lookout Assembly
Church. She loved to listen to gospel music. Bernice loved her children,
grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She
always called her grandchildren her babies. She would often put "little"
in front of their names when speaking of them.
Bernice always thought that her 17th birthday was a particularly special
day as that was the day her first child, Rosemary, was born. She loved to
cook and enjoyed cooking for everyone. Bernice can best be described as a
friend to all. She honestly and genuinely cared for everyone she would
meet. She had a wonderful way of making all that knew her feel so very
special. Bernice will always be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bernice is preceded in death by
her son, Charles Carl, son-in-law Barry Lynn Stulce, sister and
brother-in-law Beulah and Floyd McKay, and great grandson Brandon
Sherrill.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her beloved children:
Rosemary Gillam and husband Herb of Viburnum, Missouri; Dale Carl and wife
Patsy of St. Joseph, Missouri; Judy Prater and husband Bill of Redford,
Missouri; Richard Carl and wife Nancy of Cuba, Missouri; Mariam Smith and
husband Gene of Black, Missouri; Lynn Chandler and husband Ronnie of
Belleview, Missouri; Aaron "Buddy" Carl and friend Brenda of Viburnum,
Missouri; Billy Carl and wife Sharon of Black, Missouri; and Phyllis
Stulce of Springfield, Missouri.
Daughter-in-law Betty Johnson of Black, Missouri; sister-in-law Naomi
Gruschka and husband Heinz of Kansas City, Missouri; 26 grandchildren, 61
great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; nieces; nephews;
cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Eula Bernice Carl lay in state 3-8 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2004, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004, in the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Chandler officiating. Musical selections were
provided by Sharon Hedrick, Linda Hayworth and Terry Chandler.
Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers were Daniel Carl, Marty Carl,
Mickey Carl, Mike Carl, Scott Chandler, Jimmy Gillam, Joey Gillam, Eric
Gregory, Steve Prater, Mark Smith and Brad Stulce.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Brothers Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
Marion L. Hensler
Marion L. Hensler of Cuba, Missouri was born on January 22, 1932 at Creve
Coeur, Missouri to the union of Frank Charles Hensler and Helen Katherine
Delagadell Hensler and passed away on May 6, 2004 at the Missouri Baptist
Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 14
days.
On July 7, 1956 Marion was united in marriage to Cathern Gianfrancesco in
Overland, Missouri. One son, David, and three daughters, Denise, Teresa
and Tamara, were born to this union. They have been happily married for 47
years.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Teresa
Holtmann and Tamara Middendorf, two grandchildren Brandon Middendorf and
Cristen Holtmann, one brother Raymond Hensler and two sisters, Betty
Frederick and Doris Hensler.
Marion was inducted into the Army of the United States of America and was
honorably discharged on October 19, 1952. He served in the Korean
Conflict.
He was a member of the Holy Cross Church in Cuba, Cuba Knights of
Columbus, past Commander of American Legion Post No. 213 and past
President of the Local 5847 Postal Union.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his devoted
wife, Cathern Hensler; son David L. Hensler and wife Shannon; daughter
Denise Cochran and husband Michael; five brothers Eugene Hensler and wife
Esther, Kenneth Hensler and wife Mary, Robert Hensler and wife Janet,
Frank Hensler Jr. and Thomas Hensler and wife Tina; four sisters Dorothy
Sandoz and husband Roy, Shirley Coyne, Alice Raney and husband Ed, and
Jane Farmer and husband Jerry; 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren;
nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Marion was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great
grandfather, brother, uncle, good friend to all who knew him and will be
sadly missed.
Marion L. Hensler was in state at the Britton Funeral Home in Cuba,
Missouri on Friday, May 7, 2004 where Knights of Columbus services and a
wake service was held.
Funeral Mass was held at Holy Cross Church of Cuba, Missouri on Saturday,
May 8, 2004 at 10 a.m. with Father James Finder officiating. Interment was
in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
All arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri.
Rick Hopwood
Rick Hopwood of Bourbon, Missouri was born on January 27, 1955 in Bourbon,
Missouri to the union of William Fred and Dorothy Ray Hopwood and passed
away on May 3, 2004 at Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri at
the age of 49 years, 3 months and 6 days.
Rick was preceded in death by his father William Fred Hopwood.
Rick enjoyed warm sunny days and fishing. As time passed he became a man
who could tell a fisherman's tale and bring home the catch of the day.
He also enjoyed the baseball and football seasons. Rick enjoyed collecting
old truck replica models and his family life was very dear to his heart.
He will be truly missed by all.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving
daughter, Stacey Brummet and husband John Michael; mother Dorothy Hopwood;
two brothers Eugene Hopwood and wife Sandy and Russell Hopwood and wife
Lisa.
Three sisters, Brenda Courtouise and husband Lonnie, Sharon Hopwood, and
Karen Flowers and husband Arnold; two granddaughters, Britnee Perry and
Jordan Brummet; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Rick was a loving father, son, brother, brother-in-law, grandfather,
uncle, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Rick L. Hopwood was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri
where funeral services were held on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at 1 p.m. with
Rev. Hugh Stogsdill officiating.
Interment was in the Delhi Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home,
Cuba, Missouri.
James J. Mullally Jr.
James "Jim" Mullally Jr., long associated with Anheuser-Busch Inc., died
Thursday, April 29, 2004 at St. Lukes Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri
after a long illness. He was 74.
Mr. Mullally was born in St. Louis, Missouri to James J. Mullally Sr. and
Betty Mullally (nee Sullivan) on March 4, 1930. Mr. Mullally attended
Little Flower grade school in Richmond Heights, and then Maplewood High
School. Mr. Mullally served in United States Navy during the Korean War
aboard the USS Meredith.
After the war, Mr. Mullally married Ann E. Price of St. Louis and began a
long career with Anheuser-Busch.
Mr. Mullally held various sales positions which led Jim and his growing
family from St. Louis to residences in San Antonio, Texas, Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, Houston, Texas, and then back to St. Louis. Jim's position upon
return to St. Louis was that of Military Export Sales Manager, overseeing
the shipment and delivery of Anheuser-Busch products to our military bases
in Europe, the far East and southeast Asia.
Having traveled the world many times in this capacity, Mr. Mullally was
ready to plant his roots, and in 1974 was afforded the opportunity to
purchase an Anheuser-Busch distributorship in Cuba, Missouri.
Crawford County is where Jim spent the last 30 years of his life, with his
wife Ann and eventually all three of their children. With Ann and his
three children, Jim III, Kathy and Kevin, Mullally Distributing Company,
Inc. evolved into a successful and respected distributor of Anheuser-Busch
products. In 1987 Jim and Ann moved their residence to their farm outside
of Steelville and, after turning the business reins over to their sons
some 10 years ago, spent most of their time at "The Farm."
Mr. Mullally was preceded in death by his son James J. Mullally III. He is
survived by his wife Ann, daughter Kathy and son Kevin; Kathy's husband
John and grandchildren John, Lucy, Lauren; Kevin's wife Sally and
grandchildren Sean, Colin and Kevin; brothers Robert (Bob) Mullally and
wife Joan; R. Pearse Mullally and wife Pat; and numerous nieces and
nephews, friends and associates.
Visitation was held Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Britton Funeral Home in Cuba,
Missouri. Funeral services were Monday, May 3, 2004 at Holy Cross Catholic
Church at 11 a.m. with Father James Finder officiating. Interment at Holy
Cross Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the James J. Mullally Jr. Memorial
Cuba High School Track Fund, c/o Cuba Banking Center, 700 N. Franklin
Street, Cuba, MO 65453.
All arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
Thomas Logan Riley
Thomas Logan Riley was born Thursday, October 5, 1944 in Waukegan,
Illinois and departed this life at his home in Steelville, Missouri on
Saturday, May 1, 2004 at the age of 59 years, 6 months and 27 days.
Thomas married Jeannine Marie Shook on November 10, 1967 in Waukegan,
Illinois, living there most of their married life until moving to
Steelville, Missouri in 1996.
Thomas worked as a mechanic at the Doe Run Mining Company until his health
failed him. Tom and Jean attended the Centerpoint Baptist Church from time
to time and he recently accepted the Lord as his savior at his home. Tom
loved motorcycles, horses and driving stock cars. He owned a tree service
business in Waukegan, Illinois before moving to Steelville, Missouri.
Thomas is preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Kenyon Graham.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving wife Jeannine of the
home; his mother; his father Joseph Riley and wife Marge of Gurnee,
Illinois; two sons Scott Shook and wife Faye of Steelville, Missouri and
Chad Riley of Aurora, Illinois.
One brother Ronnie Riley and wife Jill of Waukegan, Illinois;
sister-in-law Sandra Graham of Waukegan, Illinois; special uncle Clifford
Phelps of Waukegan, Illinois; and special niece Michele Heikenfeld and
husband Matt of Beach Port, Illinois.
Six grandchildren Joshua Shook, Scott Shook Jr., Anthony Riley, Chaday
Riley, Christina Moss, and Rachel Summerford; one great grandchild Davin
Moss; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends all who will
sadly miss and fondly remember Thomas Logan Riley.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday,
May 3, 2004 at the Liberty Methodist Church east of Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2004 at the Liberty
Methodist Church with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating. Scott Shook gave
a eulogy and asked for family and friends to make any comments of
remembrance they had of his dad.
Pallbearers were Scott Shook, Scott Shook Jr., Joshua Shook, Chad Riley,
Matt Heikenfeld, and Mike Robinson. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery
east of Steelville, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of
Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
