MO Local Obituaries for the Week of May 14, 2014 Joe Warren Alexander Joe Warren Alexander of St. James, Missouri was born on August 31, 1936 in Iberia, Missouri to Ransom and Sylvia (Whittle) Alexander and passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 12 days. He married JoAnn G. Morff on January 6, 1942. They were married for 52 years. Joe lived in St. James, Missouri for 45 years. Joe began his military career in the United States Navy at the age of 17 and was enlisted for four years. After that he continued his service in the Missouri Army National Guard for the next 38 years. He retired as Chief Warrant Officer in 1996. After retiring, he served on several City of St. James boards. This included being elected to the City Council and appointed to the Planning and Zoning, Utility and Ambulance boards. While serving on the City Council, Joe initiated the development of the current recycling program for St. James, Missouri. Joe volunteered his time at the St. James Tourist Information Center because of his dedication to the city of St. James. He also volunteered many hours at the Missouri Veteran's Home and was an active member of the Missouri Veteran's Home Assistance League. He was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a Third-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ransom and Sylvia Alexander; one brother, Curtis Alexander; and one sister, Dorothy Jones. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn G. Alexander of the home; daughters, Brenda Carrell and husband Greg of Jefferson City, Missouri, Lisa Bertholomey and husband Terry of Pacific, Missouri, Sheri Wombwell and husband Carl of St. James, Missouri, Michele Auxier and husband Sam of St. James, Missouri; son, Brent Alexander of St. Charles, Missouri; sister, Patsy Sien of Iberia, Missouri; sister-in-law, Dora Alexander of Eldon, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; two great grandsons; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Prayer Service will be at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 15. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James, Missouri with Father Charles Pardee officiating. (nee Neauber) Burnham of Cuba, Missouri was born on Thursday, December 28, 1967 in Farmington, Missouri to James and Karen Ashlock Neauber and passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the age of 46 years, 4 months and 8 days. Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, James and Karen Neauber; and grandparents. She is survived by her companion, Dean Ousley of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Mary Katherine DeClue Mary Katherine DeClue of Cuba, Missouri was born April 3, 1948 at St. Louis, Missouri to William and Elsie (nee Watson) Stubblefield and passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the age of 66 years. Mary use to own Mary's Cafˇ in Cuba, Missouri for several years. Later she became a telemarketer and then retired from Majic Market, where she was the store manager. Mary enjoyed dancing, cooking, watching the Golden Girls and Storage Wars. She drank lemon lime soda and ice tea with her cookies and candy. She sang karaoke and liked going to the boat. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Elsie Stubblefield; sister-in-law, Gail Stubblefield; and daughter-in-law, Cenda Melton. Ida "Dormalee" Morrison Ida "Dormalee" Morrison of Union, Missouri was born November 3, 1940 at Dillard, Missouri to Harry Lee and Mildred Angeline Setzer Hogan and passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the age of 73 years and 6 months. On July 27, 1957 she married Lonnie Ray Morrison. Dormalee had currently attended the Messenger Worship Center in Fenton. She had previously worked as hospice volunteer. She loved to embroider on quilts in earlier years, read and work on Sudoku puzzles. Dormalee also enjoyed watching Cardinals baseball and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mildred Hogan; step-mother, Virginia Harmon Avery Hogan; two brothers, Harry Hogan, Jr. and infant Peter Hogan; four sisters, Shirley Hogan Collier and husband Tartan, infant Penelope Hogan, Linda Avery Collier and Fern Avery Bryan; step-mother, Virginia Harmon Avery Hogan; and brother-in-law, Michael Dildine. Grace Ealey Parks Grace Ealey Parks of St. Clair, Missouri was born in Richwoods, Missouri on March 7, 1930 to Homer and Luly Minnie Thurmond (nee Courtoise) and passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 28 days. As a young woman Grace was married and blessed to have six children. Grace was employed as a sewing machine operator at various area companies including International Shoe Company, Brown Shoe Company, Deb Shoe Company, Hazel Factory Outlet Merchandise Company and The Children's Factory, retiring from work at the age of 79. She had a variety of interests throughout her life including gardening, raising flowers and going to yard sales. Grace loved to sew, do embroidery, make quilts and make clown dolls out of socks. She also loved ice cream. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Thurmond and Luly Thurmond Courtaway; step-father, Joseph A. Courtaway; two brothers, John Henry Thurmond and Joseph J. "Joe Boy" Courtaway. Jay Earnest Smith Jay Earnest Smith of Cuba, Missouri was born to Hobert and Arvilla M. (DeWitt) Smith on March 11, 1947 in Sullivan, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the age of 67 years. Prior to becoming disabled, Jay was the Superintendent for the St. James Golf Course. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed working in his wood shop, hunting and fishing and being outdoors. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hobert and Arvilla Smith; two brothers, Dairl and Dale Smith; one sister, Ethel Finley; one daughter-in-law, Christine (Gruver) Smith. He is survived by his three children, Sheila May Smith, Jay Boy Smith and Billy Joe Smith, all of Cuba, Missouri; four grand- children, Brandi Jo Smith of Steelville, Missouri, Jared Joseph Smith of Cuba, Missouri, Merissa and Tommy Enke; three great grandchildren, Madison, Makinzy and MJ; one sister, Irene and husband Hollis Stricklin of Cuba, Missouri; one step-brother, Eric Ray of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Velma Leora Williams Velma Leora Williams of St. James, Missouri was born on April 28, 1918 in Rolla, Missouri to James Lloyd and Ethel E. Cox Riley and passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at the age of 96 years and 7 days. She married William Walter (Bill) Williams on May 14, 1938 in Steelville, Missouri. Velma was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church of Rolla, Mo. Velma was baptized at the age of 13 in a river north of Rolla, Missouri. She helped her dad on the farm until age 16. She worked at private homes until she was married. Then, she was a housewife and helped on the farm until their children were older before entering the work force. Those years were spent at the jacket factory in St. James, Missouri for many years. Velma loved to work in her flowers and her vegetable garden. She loved being outside. She worked for many years at the California Manufacturing Company in St. James, Missouri until she retired to enjoy her gardens. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Williams; her parents, James and Ethel Riley; one brother, Cecil E. Riley; one sister, Loretta Riley Scott; and one brother-in-law, Raymond Otis. She is survived by one daughter, Audrey Swaim and husband Darrell of Vichy, Missouri; two sons Kenny Williams and wife Debbie of St. James, Missouri and Melvin Williams and wife Linda of St. James, Missouri; one brother, Lloyd Riley and wife Doris of St. James, Missouri; one sister, Flora Mae Otis of Rolla, Missouri; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one great great grandson; other relatives and friends.
