MO Local Obituaries for the Week of May 15, 2002 William "Bill" Louis Adair William "Bill" Louis Adair of Cuba, Mo. was born on September 22, 1937 in St. Louis, Mo. to the union of William Albert Adair and Dollie Covenly (Bridgeman) Adair and passed away on May 8, 2002 at Cuba, Mo. at the age of 64 years, 7 months and 16 days. On March 3, 1967 he was united in marriage to Mary Jacqueline Kinkade in Boone County, Illinois. They have been happily married for 34 years. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Paul Preston Adair. He was a retired timber worked and attended the Assembly of God Church. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife, Mary J. Adair; two sons, William E. Adair and wife Denise and Robert A. Adair and wife Stephanie; two daughters Sheri Stevens and Teresa D. Bacino and husband Gregory; two brothers Alvin A. Adair and Gene L. Adair; four sisters Norma M. Turnbough, Dixie L. Beckett, Brenda K. Bland and Debbie Starks; eight grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. William Louis Adair was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Friday, May 10, 2002 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Windle Starns officiating. Interment was in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Wilma Jeanne Collins Neuner Wilma Jeanne Collins Neuner was born to the union of Elmer and Eva (nee) Parker Collins, on August 3, 1928 in Cuba, Mo. When she was quite young her parents moved to rural Cuba, and she received her elementary schooling in the one room Blue Springs School, she attended high school in Cuba, Mo. as well as St. James, Mo. She was employed in St. Louis, Mo. at various jobs after high school. She later returned to the Cuba area, and obtained employment in Owensville, Mo. at Brown Shoe Company, where she retired after 38 years of service (Oct. 1953 to Jan. 1991). She was united in marriage to Charles Neuner, June 3, 1958, in Mississippi. They resided in Canaan, Mo. for several years. He passed away March 30, 1988 after almost 30 years of marriage. Chuck and Jeanne were avid fishermen. They enjoyed the great outdoors and spent their spare time on the creek and riverbanks fishing. Jeanne's hobbies were her vegetable garden and her beautiful flowers. She enjoyed canning, making jelly, and making many lovely quilts. At Christmas time, her delicious divinity candy was in demand by many friends and relatives. After Chuck's death, she moved to Owensville, Mo. to be near her sister. Shortly after the move, her health began to fail. After several hospital visits and surgeries, she returned to her home in Owensville. On December 1, 1996, she had a severe stroke and was very ill in the Washington, Mo. Hospital. On Jan. 1, 1997, she was moved to Gasconade Manor Nursing Home where she received excellent care. She passed away there on February 13, 2002. She is survived by her sister, Irene Breuer, two aunts, Louise Freese of Illinois and Pershing Martin and husband Russell, two cousins, Debbie and Sheila Martin, as well as other cousins who they have lost contact with. She is also survived by two sister-in-laws Rosalie (Bill) Brauks and Lucy Carter, two brothers-in-law, Jim Neuner and Stan Neuner, 19 nieces and nephews, 22 great nieces and nephews, good friend Dot Hohenstreet, and also many more friends. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Neuner, her parents, one sister, Beryle Danuser, two brothers-in-law, August Danuser and Leslie Breuer, one nephew, John E. Breuer, sisters-in-law, Gladys Snow and Mildred (Henry) Pietraschke and brothers-in-law, Roman (Betty) Neuner and Don Neuner. Memorial services for Mrs. Neuner were Saturday, May 11 at 2 p.m. at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, Missouri. Mrs. Neuner's ashes were interred in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Owensville, Missouri. Leitha Vernice Rhoads Leitha Vernice Rhoads, of Columbia, Mo., passed away May 10, 2002 at the age of 84. She was born on January 26, 1918 in Beloit, Wisconsin, the daughter of Leroy and Elsie Curry Kipp. In 1945 she married James T. Rhoads and he preceded her in death in 1977. Leitha was an accomplished accordion player and was active in the Columbia Senior Center. In her younger years she enjoyed working in the circus. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Alden Kipp, and two sisters, Wilma and Delores Kipp. Those left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Robin New of Cuba, Mo., two sons, Guy Rhoads of Columbia, Mo. and James Rhoads of Inverness, Florida; two brothers, Delmar Kipp and Henry Kipp, both of Beloit, Wisconsin; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service was held Monday, May 13, 2002 at First Baptist Church, Cuba, Mo. 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Rev. Don Reed and Rev. Eric Smith, officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Erma Fay Harris Smith Erma Fay Harris Smith was born Sunday, February 9, 1941 in Cherryville, Mo. to the late Dallas Estel Harris and Beulah Ann Callahan Harris and departed this life Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Mo. at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 29 days. Erma married John Thomas Smith on March 23, 1957 in Cherryville, Mo. and to this union four children were born. She and John lived most of their lives in the Steelville, Mo. area. Erma accepted the Lord as her savior and was baptized into the Straightway Baptist Church east of Steelville, Mo. Erma enjoyed sewing, quilting (making baby quilts for the grandchildren), taking pictures, singing gospel music, tending her flowers, and was very fond of her nine grandchildren. Erma was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Gale Haffer, four sisters, two which were infants and Nellie Mae Smith, and Cleta Haffer; one brother, James Estel Harris, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Granvil and Virginia Skiles, Theodore Skiles, Leonard Weltz, Bill Boyer, Myrtle and Joe Smith. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her loving and devoted husband John of their home in Steelville, Mo.; three sons, Rick Smith and wife Suda, Larry Smith and wife Evelyn, and Monty Smith and wife Teresa, all of Steelville, Mo.; son-in-law Billy Haffer of Steelville, Mo.; nine grandchildren Tesha Smith, Jillian Smith, Danielle Haffer, Jarred Smith, Zachary Smith, Katlyn Smith, Brandon Smith, Jonathan Smith, and Emily Smith, all of Steelville, Mo. One brother Hartford Harris and wife Nellie of Steelville, Mo.; one sister Merle Patterson of Ozark, Mo.; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Walter Haffer of Berryman, Mo., Wayne Smith of Farmington, Mo., Pat Harris of Sullivan, Mo., Henry and Marie Skiles of Desoto, Mo., Margaret Boyer and friend Leo of Potosi, Mo., and Maxine Weltz of Oklahoma; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Erma Fay Harris Smith. Visitation was from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., May 9, 2002 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2002 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. with Bro. Deryll Harris officiating. Songs, Sweet Beulah Land, Amazing Grace, and Payday at the End of the Road were played by tape with the last song recorded by her family accompanied by Rosemary Callahan on the piano. Pallbearers were Steve Harris, Jack Harris, Bradley Harris, Ralph Weltz, Jesse Boyer, and Edward Boyer. Honorary pallbearers were Jim Skyles, and Earl Weltz. Burial was in the Martin Cemetery, Cherryville, Mo. All arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. Martha Mildred Telitha Pilkenton Schultz Steele Martha Mildred Telitha Pilkenton, Schultz, Steele, 102, was called to rest May 6, 2002, at Pilkenton's Residential Care Center, in Cuba, Mo. She has resided at her nephew, Larry Pilkenton's Residential Care Center since July 26, 1992. Mildred was born February 7, 1900, to Wiley Richard and Eliza Telitha (Harmon) Pilkenton in Morrellton, (Anaconda) Mo. She was the second oldest of 11 living children. She worked in the Morrellton Post Office before she married James Benjamin Schultz, Jr., in 1917. They had one daughter, Lyssia Lolamae (Schultz) (Crinkley) Cox. Mildred and Ben raised Ben's little sister, Flora Lee (Schultz) Hayes. Mildred and Ben spent most of their married life in St. Louis before moving to Sullivan. Mildred worked at Becker's Drug Store and Carps Clothing Store in Sullivan. Ben Schultz died in 1954. In 1957 Mildred married Orlando Clinton Steele. They lived in Sullivan most of their married life. They loved to square dance at the Ozark Playgrounds and anywhere there was a good dance floor and good friends. Clinton died in 1981. Mildred was an honorary member of the Royal Neighbors of America (83 years). Mildred was preceded in death, by her husbands, her parents, five brothers, John, Bennie, Mac, Robert, and Virgil Pilkenton and four sisters, Elsie, Bertha, Fern, and Hazel. Flora Lee Hayes, Ben Schultz's sister and her daughter, Lolamae (Schultz) (Crinkley) Cox, died in 1998. Her only living sibling, brother, Paul Pilkenton lives in Ohio. Mildred has three granddaughters, Judy (Wooster), and twins, Trudy (Crinkley) Hammond and Kathy Crinkley. Three great grandsons, two great granddaughters and seven great great grandchildren. She has many nephews and nieces all across the country. Cremation has taken place, private inurnment will be at the Anaconda Cemetery. There will be no public services. Mildred's granddaughter contributes her long life to the excellent loving care she received at Pilkenton's Residential Care Center. Mildred's granddaughter requests memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Edna Marie Summers Edna Marie Summers nee Powell was born on November 21, 1930 at Flat River, Mo. to the union of Seaborn Powell and Alberta (Revell) Powell and passed away on May 5, 2002 at her home near Cuba, Mo. at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 14 days. Edna was preceded in death by her father, Seaborn Powell. On June 11, 1954 she was united in marriage to Dale Winston Summers at Potosi, Mo. They have been happily married for 47 years. Edna and her husband, Dale, have been long time residents of Crawford County, Mo. and for many years operated and owned the Summers Market in Cuba, Mo. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving husband Dale W. Summers; mother, Alberta Roth; children Don and Tiny Summers of Springfield, Mo., Bill and Kay Summers of Cuba, Mo.. Jerry Summers of Villa Ridge, Mo., Mike and Irene Summers of Cuba, MO. and Barbara and Herschel Shortt of Florida; two brothers, Dewayne and Karen Wisdom of Cuba, Mo., and Junior and Wilma Powell; brother-in-law Marvin and Pat Summers; ten grandchildren, Ryan and Tonya Summers of Springfield, Mo., Jeff Summers of Cuba, Mo., Angel and John Stipp, Scott Summers, all of Springfield, Mo., Katrina Summers of Cuba, Mo., Brandon Summers, Michael Summers, Elizabeth Summers, all of Villa Ridge, Mo., Chris and Sara Summers and Jeremy Summers, all of Cuba, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren Megan and Bailey Summers, Mason and Mariah Stipp, Cheyenne and Chase Summers and Mkyala Summers; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. Edna was a devoted wife, loving mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
