MO Local Obituaries for the Week of May 17, 2001 Solomon Brent Licklider Solomon Brent Licklider of Cuba, Mo. was born on August 6, 1907 at Jakes Prairie, Mo. to the union of Solomon Lewis Licklider and Elizabeth Licklider nee Heironimus and passed away on May 7, 2001 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 1 day. On October 19, 1940 Solomon was united in marriage to Ida Mae Pinnell at Steelville, Mo. Solomon and Ida had been happily married for 60 years. Solomon was preceded in death by his parents. He was a farmer and a life long resident of Crawford County. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his devoted wife Ida Mae Licklider; three sons, Lloyd Licklider and wife Betty, Jim Licklider and wife Connie and Charles Licklider and wife Marilyn; two daughters Juanita Hortsman and husband Fred and Kathy Stack and husband Corky; one brother Herbert Licklider; two sisters Eura Ford and Virginia Lambeth; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. Solomon was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Solomon B. Licklider was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Norman Heironimus officiating. Interment was in the Licklider Cemetery, Jakes Prairie, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Virgia Ellen Licklider Virgia Ellen Licklider nee Anderson of Cuba, Mo. was born on January 27, 1909 at Lyons, Kansas to the union of Isaac B. Anderson and Mary L. Anderson nee Denning and passed away on May 10, 2001 at the Gibbs Care Center of Steelville, Mo. at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 13 days. On May 14, 1934 Virgia was united in marriage to James W. McElfresh at Forsyth, Mo. One son, Garrison, and four daughters, Mary, Doris, Laura and Faye, were born to this union. James preceded Virgia in death. On April 2, 1960 Virgia was united in marriage to Barney J. Licklider. Barney preceded Virgia in death. Virgia was a long time resident of Crawford County and was a member of the Baptist Faith. She devoted her life to raising her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Laura Lou Oaker, two sisters Novella Van Winkle and Vonnie Hotter and six brothers Norman, John, Alfred, Owen, Buther and Uther Anderson. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her son Garrison McElfresh and wife Sharon; three daughters Mary Price and husband Noel, Doris Barlet and husband Louis, Jr., and Faye Downing and husband Paul; one brother Arthur Anderson and wife Veta; one sister Dorothy Brown; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. Virgia was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Virgia Ellen Licklider nee Anderson was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Monday, May 14, 2001 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Charles Ledbetter officiating. Interment was in the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Willa E. Watson Willa E. Watson, of Rolla, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center at the age of 78. Willa was born in Steelville, Missouri on May 5, 1923 to the late Silas L. and Irma (Leezy) Easterday. She was united in marriage to Wallace L. Watson on May 28, 1944. They celebrated their 50th anniversary before his death on December 4, 1994. Mrs. Watson was a member of the First Christian Church and resident of Rolla since the early 1950's. She was a popular book reviewer and gave very interesting talks, both humorous and serious. She will be missed by her family and friends which include two cousins, Dr. Charles Leezy, of Cuba, and Frances Head of Kirkwood, Missouri, her church family and dear friends. Funeral services for Willa Watson were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 10, 2001 at the Null & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Cook officiating. Interment was in the Steelville Cemetery in Steelville. A visitation for family and friends was held Wednesday, May 9, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church in Rolla. Cards are available at the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla. The arrangements were under the direction of the Null & Son Funeral Home.
