He was a hardworking man, always the first to show up and the last to leave in times of need. He loved fishing, hunting, being on the Big Piney River, spending moments with his family, loving his grandbabies and great grandbabies, having fun at whatever cost. He was a wheeler and dealer, from horses to cars. He was a man born with the talent to have a vision and make it happen with the skills, dedication, and expertise that few ever have and spent the majority of his life with wood in his hand. Working hard as a carpenter for 60 plus years, he built many of the homes in our town in the early 70's and 80's, best known for his amazing custom swirl ceilings, putting his heart and soul into all his work. He was also preceded in death by his parents, James and Nina Barr; a grandson, Garrat Richard Barr; and three brothers, John Barr, Eugene Barr and Ralph Barr. Johnny married Shirley Ruble on June 2, 1961 in Steelville, Missouri. He was a commercial truck driver and also worked for Wayne Richard's sawmill for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was known for his poetry, especially cowboy poetry and many of his poems were published. Mike was an avid race car fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his four grandchildren. Mike was a veteran with the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. Timothy Mark Hannan Timothy Mark Hannan of Cuba, Missouri was born Sunday, August 17, 1958 at Springfield, Missouri to LaVerne and Nancy (nee Ward) Hannan and passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the age of 58 years. Tim was united in marriage to Tina Green on November 25, 1977 at Mountain Grove, Missouri. In 1978 Tim started his 33 year career in law enforcement at the Mountain Grove Police Department as a dispatcher and then became a Mountain Grove City Police Officer. On April 1, 1980 Tim entered the Missouri State Highway Patrol Academy and in August of 1980 the family moved to Cuba, Missouri and Tim went to work for the Missouri Highway Patrol Troop I. Tim retired in July 2011, after nearly 31 years of dedicated service, for the Missouri Highway Patrol. During this time he was a road trooper, marijuana eradication trooper, undercover detective, casino trooper, road trooper and undercover detective respectively before retiring. In his spare time Tim enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his father, LaVerne Hannan. Edward Lorraine Edward Lorraine of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday, January 24, 1934 at St. Louis, Missouri to Edmund and Viola (nee Chapie) Lorraine and passed away on Monday, May 8, 2017 at the age of 83 years. Edward proudly served in the United States Army from October 1, 1956 until October 2, 1958 and he earned the Good Conduct Medal. Edward started his working career in St. Louis, Missouri as a cement mason in the early 1960's. During his career he owned and operated Lorraine Brothers Concrete with his brother, worked for Vee-jay Concrete in the 1980's and ended his working career, helping his son Jerry, at Lorraine Concrete. Edward was a cement mason for 40 plus years. In his spare time he played the guitar, mandolin, fiddle, bass and the harmonica. Edward was a country music singer his whole life. He enjoyed old cars, especially his 71 GTO, 67 Plymouth Satellite and a 65 Ford Galaxy. He loved the fact that he was the winner twice of the Lorraine High Five Tournament. She also had a great compassion for animals, especially the many she rescued and cared for. James Elwood Simmerly Sr. James Elwood Simmerly Sr. of Bourbon, Missouri was born on June 12, 1943 in Bourbon, Missouri to Jesse and Della Edith Simmerly (nee Wymer) and passed away Friday, May 5, 2017 at the age of 74 years. He grew up and attended school in Coon Ridge and Bourbon before being drafted to the United States Army after High School. Upon discharge from the Army, James returned to the Bourbon, Missouri area and went to work at the mine. In 1964 James married Dorothy Compton. In 1966 James bought his first mill and started Simmerly Timber Co. Due to some health issues, James decided to retire in 1992. Jim enjoyed playing the guitar and having jam sessions in the "party room." He also enjoyed hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Eella Simmerly; three brothers, Richard, Robert and Curtis; and his daughter, Laura Simmerly.
