MO Local Obituaries for the Week of May 20, 2010 Louis Leon Albin Louis Leon Albin of Steelville, Missouri was born November 3, 1938 in Brownington, Missouri to William Franklin and Dorothy Garnett Smith Albin and passed away Monday, May 10, 2010 at his home at the age of 71 years. On December 27, 1986, in Las Vegas, Nevada, he was united in marriage to Joan Harju Albin. Louis served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years during the Vietnam War and Cuban Missile Crisis. During that time, he did a tour of Asia including Philippines, Japan and Beijing. He transferred to Fleet Reserve and served almost six years and then retiring on October 1, 1986 for a total of 30 years at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He had many hobbies which consisted of shooting and buying guns, taking things apart, watching X-Files and murder mysteries, giving the news and weather to all who were interested and venturing to junk yards. Most of all he loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest by spending his time with his grandchildren and spoiling them. He is survived by his wife, Joan of Steelville, Missouri; six sons, Louis Albin, Jr. of California, Jeff Winner, Steven (Heather) Albin and Wade (Johnetta) Albin, all of Steelville, Missouri, Michael Winner of Arizona and Matt Whetten of Parker, Colorado; five daughters, Jeanine (Brian Becker of Halstead, Kansas, Michelle Albin of Colorado, Annette Albin of St. James, Missouri, Stacey (Lance) Curtis and Ashley Albin, all of Steelville, Missouri; three brothers, Forest Albin and Frank Albin of Clinton, Missouri and Donald “Pete” Albin of Windsor, Missouri; two sisters, Shirley Albin of Green Ridge, Missouri and Dorothy Rodriquez of Clinton, Missouri; 18 grandchildren, Austin, Parker, Brody, Ayden, Kimberly, Calvin, Cody, Taylor, Tyler, Devin, Kiersten, Cordell, Allison, Kyle, Ryan, Colin, Aspen and Haven; other relatives and friends. Special music of “Be Not Afraid” and “On Eagles Wings” were sang and played by Deloris Bell. Special memories were shared by daughter, Stacey Curtis. Ray Benson Ray Benson of Potosi, Missouri was born on September 10, 1915 at Potosi, Missouri to John William Benson and Idabelle (Hayes) Benson and passed away May 14, 2010 at the Parkland Hospital at the age of 94 years, 8 months and 4 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Idabelle Benson; his wife, Mildred J. Benson; two brothers, Albert Benson and Arthur Benson; four sisters, Edna Proctor, Mildred Jenkins, Helen Sisk and Becky Gibson and a great grandchild, Toby Robart. Geneva Edith Green Geneva Edith Green, nee Conaway of Sullivan, Missouri, formerly of Cherry- ville, Missouri was born February 20, 1920 at Cherryville, Missouri to Irvin Jesse Conaway and Lena Hazel (Martin) Conaway and passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 90 years. On December 13, 1941 she and Clyde Green were married and to this union five children were born. After 27 years, Geneva retired in 1982 from Brown Shoe Company. Geneva was a member of Center Ridge Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed reading, quilting, embroidering and camping, liked to watch the St. Louis Cardinals and one of their biggest fans. She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Lena Conaway; her husband, Clyde; one great grandson, Eric Allen; three brothers, Luther Conaway and wife Emily, Lawrence Conaway and Noel Conaway; brothers-in-law, Leo Brown, John Green and wife Mabel, Thomas Green, Floyd Green and wife Gladys, Delmar Green and wife Marie, Preston Green and Thurman Green; two sisters-in-law, Della Hewkin and husband Arthur and Wilma Hines; and one son-in-law, Gary Turnbough. Jerry Randall Jones, Jr. Jerry Randall Jones, Jr. of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010 at the age of 46 years. “JR,” as he was known to friends and family, was an Army veteran from both the active service and the National Guard, having served for several years in the chemical field. JR enjoyed a multitude of activities and spent much of his time riding his motorcycle. As an avid hunter and gun enthusiast; he loved and appreciated the outdoors. He had an innate ability to make those around him laugh, with a wonderful sense of humor and wit. JR went to school in Kentucky, having attended Deming High School in Mt. Olivet and Eastern Kentucky University. He was talented in a many areas, having worked not only in the military, but also as an electrician, healthcare worker and security professional. JR devoted himself in later years to mentoring his nephew Jonathan. While JR suffered physically in recent years due to a motorcycle accident, his spirit and desire showed true as he overcame his obstacles to enjoy the activities he loved. John Carl Landing John Carl Landing of Leasburg, Missouri was born in Franklin County, Missouri to John and Sarah (Taylor) Landing on August 28, 1926 and passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the age of 83 years. Carl, as he was known by family and friends, honorably served his country with the United States Army from January 5, 1945 to March 6, 1947. He was united in marriage to Frances Cuneio and one daughter was born to their union. Carl was employed by the former International Shoe Company, owned a service station and was also employed by Meramec Mining Company, Wright Tree Service, Schatz Underground for many years, and lastly Strauser Drug. Carl loved to travel especially to Colorado, his favorite place. He always had a travel trailer and spent most weekends at various lakes around Missouri. He taught everyone how to water ski and spent many hours in the hot sun circling his grandchildren, nieces and nephews with the boat. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid card player, especially Rummy and Rook. He was always competitive and was never known to have lost a game of Badminton. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sarah Landing and one brother, Joseph Landing. Ira Ross Licklider Ira Ross Licklider of Belle, Missouri was born on September 15, 1926 in Cuba, Missouri to Jacob Cook Licklider and Clara Myrtle Creek Licklider and passed away Friday evening, May 14, 2010 in the Eldon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 83 years. Ira was married to Lille Etta McKune on June 21, 1947 and to this union four children were born, Dennis, Gary, Lois and Kay. Etta passed away May of 1988. On January 4, 1992 Ira married Bernice Schaller. Bernice had two sons, Ronnie and Gary. Ira worked in the shoe factory, as a construction worker in St. Louis, in clay mines and retired as a kiln operator at the Allied Chemical Plant in Owensville, Missouri. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Owensville VFW Post. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Licklider; brothers and sisters, Herman Licklider, Alliene Conley, infant Ola Licklider, Iretta Spurgeon, Sylvia Jost, Chester Licklider, Les Licklider, Lucille Dunakey and Lee Roy Licklider. Charles was a retiree of Wagner Electric Company in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a member of Lebanon Lodge #77 A.F. & A.M. and a 33 degree member of the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed working in the garden, square dancing and spending the winter months in Texas.
