MO Local Obituaries for the Week of May 24, 2001 Homer Allison Homer Allison of Cuba, Missouri, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 19, 2001 at the age of 83 years. Mr. Allison was born at Illipolis, Illinois on March 12, 1918 to the late Charley and Margaret Etter Allison. He was raised in that area until the age of 12 when the family moved to the Hinch area near Bourbon. On September 14, 1940, he was married to Ethel Troutt at Bourbon and to this marriage one son was born. Mr. Allison was employed for a time a Paramount Cap in Bourbon and later Long Year Drilling Company. In 1945 he and Ethel moved to the St. Louis area where he became employed at Carter Carburetor Company as an assembler. He retired from there after 35 years of service in January of 1980. Mr. Allison was a member of UAW Local 819 and the First Missionary Baptist Church of Bourbon. He is survived by his wife Ethel nee Troutt of the home, one son and daughter-in-law. Rev. Larry and Lana Allison of DeSoto, Missouri, one grandson, Tod Allison and wife Karen of DeSoto, sisters-in-law Velma Allison of Steelville, Missouri and Helen Higgins and husband Leland of Leasburg, Missouri, a brother-in-law J.C. Troutt and wife Doris of Steelville, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Mr. Allison was preceded in death by two brothers Otis and Steven Allison. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001 from the First Baptist Church in Bourbon with Rev. Jeff Logsdon officiating. Interment was in Crossroads Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri. Clara E. Black Clara E. Black of Steelville, Missouri, formerly of Sullivan, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2001 at the age of 94 years. Mrs. Black was born on July 10, 1996 in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Andrew and Jennie (Anderson) Nelson. On February 26, 1927 she was joined in marriage to Raymond L. Black of Chicago and to this union two children were born. In 1947 Clara moved with her family to Bourbon, Missouri. In addition to serving her family as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, she also worked outside the home at times during her adult years. Most notably, Clara and Raymond were very well known and respected in the Bourbon area for their paper route on which they hand carried the Post-Dispatch or the Globe Democrat to their clients front door. Also, Clara later worked for approximately 10 years as a nurse's aid at the Sullivan Community Hospital. She found pleasure in crocheting, sewing, gardening, canning and cooking. Mrs. Black was baptized at an early age and was a follower of the Methodist faith. She will be remembered and cherished as a loving mother, a great mother-in-law and a woman who was easy going, cheerful and extremely patient. She is survived by one son, Carl Black and wife, Goldie, and one daughter, Donna Taylor and husband, Marvin, all of Sullivan; five grandchildren, Michael and Barbara Black, Jacqueline Johnson, and Richard and Dale Tayloe. Eleven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Black was preceded in death by four brothers, Chester, Harvey, Axel and Norval Nelson, and five sisters, Agnes Oates, Anna Brown, Florence Ahlman, Lilly Witte and Jenny Nelson. Funeral services were conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2001 from the Chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with Dr. Bart Hildreth officiating. Interment was in the Bacon Cemetery. Mary Nadine Watson Mary Nadine Watson (nee Baker), daughter of Raymond Floyd Baker and Dora Ethel Baker Pyatt (nee Martin) was born Saturday, February 6, 1926, at Davisville, Mo. She entered eternal rest Saturday, May 12, 2001 in the Cuba Manor Care Center, Cuba, Mo., at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 6 days. On March 9, 1963, at Salem, Mo., Nadine was united in marriage to Jessie Ray Watson. They enjoyed over thirty-five years together before his death July 9, 1998. In addition to her parents and Ray, she was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Naomi Halbert and Virginia and Elba Wilson. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are three brothers, Joe Baker and wife Wilma, Bill and wife Pat Baker, all of Davisville, Mo., Jim Baker and wife Kathy of Cuba, Mo. One sister, Betty and husband Pete Gremaud of Pacific, Mo.; brother-in-law, Welbon Halbert of St. Louis, Mo.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Nadine will be remembered as a special sister and aunt. Her home had all things neat and in their place. She was always there with a helping hand when she was needed. She was devoted to her family, and worried about her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. When you visited her, she would go as far as she cold with you and as you were leaving, she continued to do this in the nursing home as long as her health permitted. Mary Nadine Watson lay in state after 4 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. John Slade officiating. Musical selections were provided by pianist Shirley Brown and vocalists Bob and Carol Coleman. Committal prayers and interment were in Davisville Cemetery, Davisville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Claude Ash, Billy Baker, Roger Baker, Rodney Baker, John Bargner, Gary Halbert and Travis Pyatt. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
