Dorothy May Smittle
Dorothy May Smittle nee McKelvey of Cuba, Mo. was born on November 3, 1914
at Beloit, Kansas to the union of John F. McKelvey and Edna McKelvey nee
White and passed away on May 17, 2000 at the age of 85 years, 6 months and
14 days.
On March 7, 1943 in Wakeeney, Kansas she was united in marriage to Sam S.
Smittle, one son, Wendell O. Smittle and one daughter, Delilah, were born
to this union. Dorothy and Sam were happily married until he preceded her
in death on December 27, 1985.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Betty Jean
Clayburn and one brother William Lee McKelvey.
Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cuba, Mo.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her son Wendell
O. Smittle and daughter Delilah Smittle; nephews; other relatives and many
friends.
Dorothy was a devoted wife and loving mother, good friend to all who knew
her and will be sadly missed.
Dorothy Smittle nee McKelvey was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo., where services were held on Monday, May 22, 2000. Interment was
in the Meramec Hills Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements
were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Janet L. Parrett
Janet L. Parrett was born December 2, 1946, in Leadwood, and moved to
Neosho in 1977 from Noel. She passed away following a sudden illness,
Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the age of 53.
She earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Bolivar and
worked in the office of A. Y. McDonald in Joplin. She was a member of the
Calvary Baptist Church, and had been the nursery attendant of the church
for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Joy Lynn Weaver, Springfield; a son Jared
Parrett, Neosho; her parents, Lewis and Betty Ferrell, Viburnum; a sister,
Phyllis Burr, Mountain Home, Arkansas; two brothers, Charles Ferrell of
Lohman, and Eddie Ferrell of Bourbon; and one grandson Andre.
Visitation was held Monday, May 15, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and the funeral
was held Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Bill
Davis, and Rev. Rick Hedger officiating. Interment was at the Neosho
Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dale Matthews, Jim Rhoades, Wily Sims, Corky Burr, Gene
Pettit, and Larry Enlow. Honorary Pallbearers were Don Stelzer, Dennis
Farrell, Bill Towery, Roy Bradford, Gary Moon, and Rick Adler.
Clarence Dewayne Parrett
Clarence Dewayne Parrett was born on October 11, 1945 in St. Louis, Mo. and
departed this life on Thursday, May 11, 2000 in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the
age of 54 years after a lengthy illness.
Clarence was the son of Elbert and Myrna (Petty) Parrett and lived in the
Cherryville area before becoming a resident of Earlsboro, Oklahoma as a
welder. He is survived by his loving and adoring soulmate and wife, Lillian
(Schexenider) Parrett. They were married on December 30, 1982 in St. Smith,
Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Leon
Parrett. He was a beloved father, step-father, grandfather,
great-grandfather and uncle.
Clarence was a friend to many and made everyone smile whose heart he
touched. Clarence enjoyed raising horses, working in his garden and
visiting with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian of Earlsboro, Oklahoma; one son,
Dewayne of Troy, Mo.; one daughter, Sherry Werkmeister of St. Charles, Mo.;
seven step-children, Gail, Nancy, Steven, Maria, Ruth Ann, Patricia and
Elizabeth.
Two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Clinton Hewkin and Norma and Jim
Smith of Salem, Mo.
Four brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeffery Glenn and Florence Parrett of
Mesquite, Nevada, Carl and Kathryn Parrett of Salem, Mo., Lonnie and Cheryl
Parrett of St. Louis, Mo., and Paul and Freda Parrett of Antioch,
Tennessee.
Funeral services were held in Prague, Oklahoma on Saturday, May 13, 2000.
Interment was in the Prague Cemetery.
Marvin Edwin Koch
Marvin Edwin Koch of Cuba, Mo. was born on January 22, 1941 in Bourbon, Mo.
to the union of John and Edith (nee Riske) Koch and passed away on May 14,
2000 at the age of 59 years, 3 months and 22 days.
Marvin was united in marriage to Mary Whiteside. To this union two children
were born, David and Steve.
On April 2, 1985 Marvin was united in marriage to Barbara Erhart Steele and
they had been happily married for fifteen years.
Marvin was preceded in death by his father and daughter-in-law Julie Koch.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife
Barbara Koch; his mother Edith Koch; two sons Steve Koch; David Koch and
his wife Carla; step-daughter Theresa Steele; five grandchildren, Devon
Koch, David Woodruff, Kayla, Sheena and Robby Wilson; his first wife Mary
Joiner and her husband Jim. Other relatives and many friends.
Marvin was a member of the Corcordia Lutheran Church of Bourbon, Mo. and
worked as a truck driver for the Mail Contractors of America.
He was a devoted husband, loving son, father, stepfather, grandfather, good
friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Marvin Edwin Koch was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
where funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at 1:00 p.m.
with Rev. Roger Schnakenberg officiating. Interment was in the Meramec
Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Dolores June Pitts
Dolores June Pitts was born Friday, May 12, 1933, in Waterloo, Illinois, a
daughter of the late Arvol Christisen and Bessie Humphrey Christisen.
She entered eternal rest one day after her 67th birthday, Saturday, May 13,
2000 at her home in Cook Station, Mo.
In 1949, at Crown Point, Indiana, Dolores was united in marriage to Afton
Pitts. Three sons and two daughters were born to this union. They have
enjoyed over fifty years together.
Dolores was not only a homemaker, and mother, but she worked for twenty
years for Brown Shoe Company, seven years for WalMart and the past two
years she worked for the James Foundation as the museum attendant. Her
favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by two sons,
Johnny Scott Pitts (age 6 years), and Dale Alen Pitts (an infant), also her
step-father Grant Pinson.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted husband, Afton
Pitts of the home in Cook Station, Mo., two daughters, Carolyn Abrams of
Steelville, Mo., Rhonda and husband Brian Bennett of Cook Station, Mo.; one
son, Donald Pitts and wife Rhea of St. James, Mo.
Two brothers, Melvin Christisen and wife Renie of Fenton, Mo., David
Christisen and wife Ruby of Cuba, Mo.; eight grandchildren, one
great-grandson, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Dolores June Pitts lay in state 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2000, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2000 in the Britton
Chapel with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating. Musical selections were
provided by a granddaughter Nellie Gillen.
Committal prayers and interment were in Wesco Cemetery, Wesco, Mo.
Pallbearers were Chris Abrams, Corey Abrams, Brian Bennett, Anthony Gillen,
Allen Pitts and Monty Pitts.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
