MO Local Obituaries for the Week of May 29, 2019 Rita Elizabeth Boero Rita Elizabeth Boero of Bourbon, Missouri was born on January 17, 1941 in St. James, Missouri to Paul and Rose (Tessaro) Goevert and passed away on May 14, 2019 at the age of 78 years. Rita spent her early years in Rosati, Missouri. The family then moved to Thayer, Missouri, where Rita attended grade school and graduated from high school in 1958. Rita continued her education at St. Louis University, earning a degree in education. After starting a family, she furthered her education, earning a Master's Degree in Education. Rita started her teaching career at Ursuline Academy. She also taught one year at St. Dominic Savio and Our Lady of Providence. Then, Rita and her family moved to Sullivan, Missouri where she taught for one year. Rita chose to make her home in the Bourbon School District, where she taught for 31 years in various grades, ending her last 18 years teaching high school history and government. Rita continued working at Bourbon schools as a substitute teacher until she was 72 years old. Rita married Edward Boero on August 10, 1963 in St. Louis, Missouri. Rita spent numerous years sponsoring senior classes, taking hundreds of students to Daytona Beach and a few other destinations. Rita could also be seen sponsoring the junior classes, where she would transform the middle school gym into a different paradise centered around various themes. She sponsored the Beta Club and Scholar Bowl. Other events Rita could be seen leading included Senior Carnivals, May Days, Homecomings, and running concessions stands. Rita spent many hours volunteering for the Bourbon Booster's Senior Christmas dinners and the Lions Club Easter Egg Hunts. Rita ventured into the catering business. Rita helped at the St. Francis Catholic Church annual picnics. Rita loved her books and enjoyed painting ceramics, making numerous other crafts, word searches and playing solitaire. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Edward Boero; her parents, Paul and Rose Goevert; step father, George Krueger; father and mother-in-law, Edward and Mary Boero; and her sister, Jeanette Brinegar. She is survived by her children, Tony Boero and wife Cathy of Bourbon, Missouri, Tami Bobbitt and husband Randy of Bourbon, Missouri, Traci Courtouise and husband Doug of Bourbon, Missouri and Terri Rowden and husband Chuck of Leasburg, Missouri; grand- children, Tori Brock and husband Michael, Ryan Bobbitt and wife Katie, Tara Doyle and husband Jason, Tori Bobbitt and significant other Keenan, Anthony Rowden and wife Kayla, Drew Courtouise, Mackenzie Courtouise, Maria Boero and Bam Rowden; great grand- children, Katie, Rilynn, Evelyn, Baylor, Kian, Kade, and Kinsley; one brother, Paul Goevert and wife Shelly of Ballwin, Missouri; nieces, Vicki (Rob) Sewell and Angie (Richard) Black; nephews, Gordon (Jaime) Goevert and Sam Goevert; other relatives and friends. Karen Hill Karren Hill (nee Heaton) of Cuba, Missouri was born on Saturday, May 6, 1967 in Mexico, Missouri to James Kenneth and Lonnie Elsberry Heaton and passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the age of 52 years and 12 days. Karren married David L. Hill on May 10, 2003 in E. Prairie, Missouri. Karren worked a few years at Poplar Bluff Hospital as a Medical Records Technician then they moved to Cuba, Missouri in 2010 and she has been a wife and homemaker. She enjoyed embroidering and going to the river. She especially was very fond of her dogs Chicka, Miracle and Ozzie. Mercer of Steelville, Missouri was born Saturday, April 18, 1959 at North Tonawanda, New York to Vito and Rose (nee Tancorre) Valdagno and passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the age of 60 years. Linda married Clarence Mercer. Linda spent her life taking care of others. She retired as a Registered Nurse, after many years of dedicated service, when her health began to decline. She spent hours playing the guitar and reading the bible. She was preceded in death by her father, Vito Valdagno; and one brother-in-law, Terry Dolan. Harold Slade Harold Slade of Davisville, Missouri was born August 13, 1932 in Festus, Missouri to Thomas and Fannie Wilkinson Slade and passed away Monday, May 20, 2019 at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 7 days. In July of 1953 he married Joan Albert in St. Louis, Missouri. Harold graduated from Cherryville High School and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1951 to 1954 being awarded a Purple Heart. He owned Slade Construction in St. Louis, Missouri where he laid underground cable. He and Joan were previous members of the Fenton Church of Christ where Harold was an ordained Elder and in later years became a member of the Viburnum Christian Church where he was a past song leader. Harold was also a member of the Davisville American Legion. He loved working his farm, cutting hay, hunting and fishing along with some traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Fannie Slade; daughter, Sandra Braun; brothers, Homer and Thomas Slade; sisters, Betty Neely and JoAnn (Bill) Gahr; sisters-in-law, Mary Slade, Elizabeth Diefenbach, Mae Pipkin, Carol Dace, Mildred Frey and Dorothy Gravatt; brothers-in-law, Larry Farrar, Bill Seaver and James Setzer, George Albert, Arthur Albert and R.G. Daniel James Stroud Daniel James Stroud of St. James, Missouri was born on December 13, 1933 in Dexter, Missouri to Robert and Cora May Rose Stroud and passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 2 days. He married Lola Marie Taylor on July 12, 1955 in DeSoto County, Mississippi. Daniel loved to go coon, deer and duck hunting. He also loved to go fishing. He had a coon dog that was a hunting champion for three years. He loved inviting people out to his house. He was a Pentocostal preacher, a gospel bass singer and loved to sing and sang on the radio. He also loved to sing with his famly and to do traveling with them also. He was a laborer in an Organ Factory for many years, before he became a farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Cora Mae Rose Stroud; daughter, Sarah Swaringam; sister, Hazel Baker and brother-in-law, Herbert Baker; one granddaughter, Emily Ann Bell; and one nephew, David Baker. Virginia Janet Underrwood Virginia Janet Underwood of Marshfield, Missouri, formerly of St. James, Missouri was born on April 28, 1927 in Cuba, Missouri to John Samuel and Cora Mahala (Pease) Wikey and passed away on May 12, 2019 at the age of 92 years and 10 days. She married Bernard Underwood in February 1952, in St. James, Missouri. Bernard was serving in the Air Force at the time. After Bernard's military service they moved to Springfield, Missouri and then to Rogersville, raising five children. She worked many jobs after raising their family. Together Bernard and Virginia owned and operated the St. James Flagpole Company until retiring in 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Samuel and Cora Mahala Wikey; husband, Bernard Underwood in 2008; one son, Gregory Underwood in 1980; and five sisters, Mildred K. Wikey, Gertrude Marklun, Margaret Carey, Winifred Tavener and Hildred A. Richart. Mary Elizabeth West Mary Elizabeth West (nee Bowers) was born November 5, 1932 at Howes Mill, Missouri to Otis and Lucy Wyman Bowers and passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 14 days. Mary married Willard West. Mary grew up in Crawford County and after high school and earning her hours to teach, she began teaching in a one-room school house. She later was a bookkeeper and a Deputy Sheriff in Crawford County, a position she was proud to have. Through the years, she spent many hours quilting, enjoying the outdoors whether gardening or tending to her many flowers. She enjoyed bowling in the Steelville leagues and dancing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Lucy Bowers; brother, Irvine Bowers; brother-in-law, Bill Lea; and granddaughter, Lacy. Mildred "Millie" Lucille Mildred "Millie" Lucille (nee Ray) Westrich was born on Thursday, November 17, 1927 in Leasburg, Missouri to James Franklin and Alice (nee Halbert) Ray and passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the age of 91 years. She married Sylvester "Pee Wee" Westrich. She and "Pee Wee" lived most of their life in St. Ann, Missouri. They attended and raised their family at the former St. Gregory Parish, also in St. Ann. She worked some outside of the home, but spent most of her time at home raising and taking care of the family. She was also a great cook and she enjoyed quilting, bingo, scratch-off's and casinos. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Sylvester Stephen "Pee Wee" Westrich; parents, James Franklin and Alice Ray; and eight siblings, Wilbur Ray, Nanie King, Bert Ray, Velma Fife, Howard Ray, Mary Alice Land, Leonard Ray and Gertrude White. She is survived by five children, Donald M. (Kay) Westrich, Mark E. (Sue) Westrich, Dennis R. (Bonita) Westrich, Debra M.
