MO Local Obituaries for the Week of June 4, 2014 Elizabeth Ilene Benton Elizabeth Ilene Benton (nee Conaway) of Cook Station, Missouri was born at Cherryville, Missouri on June 8, 1920 to Charles and Annie Conaway and passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 19 days. On October 23, 1934 in Rolla, Missouri she was united in marriage to Carl Thomas Benton. Elizabeth attended the Cowboy Church in St. James, Missouri. She loved reading her Bible and read it many times from front to back. She loved to travel and you could find her out gardening many times throughout the years. She was also a true working partner with her husband on the farm. She loved listening to bluegrass music especially Bill Monroe whom she met in person. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Annie Conaway; her husband, Carl Thomas Benton; one son, Don Benton and wife Lucille; two brothers, Edgar Conaway and Ed Conaway; three sisters, Ruth Greer, Velma Veach and Zelma Eichorst; and one granddaughter, Donna Louise Benton. She is survived by her one daughter, Shirley Benton Lyons of Cook Station, Missouri; five grandchildren, Richard Benton and wife Jane, Tammy Harper Benton, Danny Benton, Laurie Vazquez and husband Mike and Randy Benton; five great grandchildren, Stephanie Reynolds, Amber Reynolds, Steven Benton, Colten Fragale and Garett Benton; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Conaway and Dovie Conaway both of Steelville, Missouri; one brother in-law, Frank Greer of New Jersey; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 2 p.m. until service time on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Mike Cooper officiating. Special music of "Amazing Grace," "I am ready" and "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus" was played. "I Need No Mansions Here Below" was sung by Rev. Mike Cooper. Committal prayer and interment were in the Carr Cemetery at Cook Station, Missouri. Thomas Myron Colvin Thomas Myron Colvin of St. James, Missouri formerly of Rolla, Missouri was born on May 21, 1947 in Jackson, Tennessee to Norman and Willie Emma (Jones) Colvin and passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the age of 67 years. On December 7, 1968 he married Janet (Baker) Colvin. Tom's radio and television career began while being stationed in Tallulah, Louisiana serving in the United States Air Force. His military career sent him to Texas, Thailand-where he was known as "The Round Mound of Sound," and Panama. In Panama Tom hosted a children's television show, Sheriff Tom's Town. Following an honorable discharge at the rank of Staff Sergeant and a one-year stint in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Tom moved his family to Kennett, Missouri where he joined radio station KBOA. Along with news and sports Tom co-hosted a morning show, The Grapevine, with S teve Mays. In 1984 Tom joined the staff of KTTR/KZNN in Rolla, Missouri. The Morning Mayor Show brought Tom and Bob McKune into the homes of many Phelps County residents where Tom's sign off every morning included "sa-wat-dee-khrap, ya'll." Tom spent 19 years at KTTR as the News and Sports Director calling games for Rolla High School and Missouri S&T, achieving his lifelong dream of calling play-by-play for college sports. After leaving KTTR Tom finished his radio career with stations in Kennett, Florida, and Farmington. Upon his retirement Tom had completed over 42 years in radio and television. He had called play-by-play for over 5,400 games including the sports of Thai kickboxing, baseball, football, and basketball. Tom was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Rolla, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Willie Colvin; two nephews, Tim Taylor and Joe Mays. He is survived his wife, Janet Colvin of St. James, Missouri; one son, Brad Colvin of St. James, Missouri; one daughter, Tonya Heavin and husband Geoff of Rolla, Missouri; three sisters, Anne Mays of Little Rock, Arkansas, Betty Taylor and husband Bill of Grand Junction, Tennessee, and Fran Newell and husband Bob of Gibson, Tennessee; and two grandchildren, Kelton and Brenna Heavin; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Rolla, Missouri. Funeral service was conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Rolla, Missouri. Interment followed in the Roach Cemetery in Doolittle. Grace Foehrweiser Grace Foehrweiser, nee Clendenin, of Steelville, Missouri was born on Tuesday, May 5, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri to Walter Edward and Barbara Harman Clendenin and passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the age of 89 years and 19 days. Grace lived her childhood years in the Liberty community attending first through eighth grade at Liberty School and grades 9 through 11 at Steelville High School. Then her family returned to St. Louis where she graduated from Cleveland High School. After high school, Grace worked a few years as a secretary for General American Insurance. She married Gerald Foehrweiser on February 21, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri at St. Anthony's Rectory and to this union two sons were born. After Gerald's retirement, they moved back to Steelville in 1986 where she enjoyed painting, crocheting, candle making, gardening, canning, working with her rock gardens, and admiring her tropical fish. She liked working crossword puzzles when her eyesight was good and was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Barbara Clendenin; sister, Alice (Joseph) Moon; brother, Donald (Ardith) Clendenin; sister-in-law, Aldine (James) Sharp; nephew, Louis Moon and niece, Sharon Moon. Diane married Gary A. Michaelson on October 11, 1982. She enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinal baseball team, TV and playing video games. David Ray Miller, Sr. David Ray Miller, Sr. of Salem, Missouri was born on Tuesday, July 20, 1948 in Newburg, Missouri to Dallas Oscar and Georgia E. Jones Miller and passed away at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 5 days. David married Cheryl Towell on April 25, 1969 in Rolla, Missouri and were married for 45 years and to this union two sons were born. He accepted the Lord as his Savior when he was 33 years old and attended Coffee Community Church, Steelville, Missouri and Revival Tabernacle in Salem, Missouri. David grew up working on Fort Hereford Ranch. He owned his own truck and was an over the road truck driver hauling steel for 23 years. After retirement, he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and raising Hereford cattle. His hobbies were fishing and deer hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Georgia Miller. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Miller of Salem, Missouri; sons, David (Kim) Miller, Jr. and Torey (Jamie) Miller, all of Cherryville, Missouri; brothers, Larry (Hazel) Miller of Success, Missouri and Lonnie (Marilyn) Miller of Newburg, Missouri; sister, Patsy Myers of Newburg, Missouri; grandchildren, Dallas, Tori, Audrey and Olivia Miller, all of Cherryville, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Buell Naramore Buell Naramore of Ironton, Missouri was born on July 22, 1921 in Jasper, Arkansas to Artie and Edna (Williams) Naramore and passed away May 21, 2014 at the age of 92 years. Buell proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He served on the Steam Tanker "Robert E. Hopkins." On February 7, 1943 the Robert E. Hopkins carrying 68,000 barrels of fuel oil was hit by one stern torpedo from a Russian U-402 about 650 miles west of Malin Head. When the boilers blew up, the blast tore away large portions of the hull and caused the ship to sink within three minutes. There were 57 persons aboard, 42 survived. Buell returned home and was united in marriage to Miss Marguerite Vernatchi and to this union three sons were born. He went to work for Stauffer Chemical where he would spend the next 38 years. Marguerite passed away in 1985. In 1987 he was united in marriage to Olive Davis. Buell loved to be outdoors, his hobbies included gardening, traveling, and NASCAR racing and he loved baseball. He was preceded in death by his parents, Artie and Edna Naramore; wife Marguerite; seven brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Olive of Ironton, Missouri; sons, Shawn Naramore and wife Gloria of Orting, Washington, Shannon Naramore and wife Nancy of Richland, California and Buell Naramore and wife Betty of Fairfield, California; brother, Oran Naramore and wife Meta of Salem, Missouri; granddaughter, Roseanna Borelli; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 from 9-11 a.m. at the Rolla Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Rolla Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Pastor Stephen Brubaker officiating. Interment was at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary, Rolla, Missouri. John Wesley Warkentin John Wesley Warkentin of St. James, Missouri was born on October 23, 1926 in Hydro, Oklahoma to John J. and Bertha Kliever Warkentin and passed away at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 2 days. John enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17 years. He served his country for 32 years, retiring in April 1976 at Point Mugu Naval Air Station, Point Muga California. He was very proud of the years he served his Country, as well as being able to wear the uniform he retired in. John never had any children of his own, however when he met Shelby he claimed her five children and grandchildren as his own.He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bertha Warkentin; one infant sister, Norma Jean Warkentin; and brother, Leroy James Warkentin. He is survived by his companion of 17 years, Shelby Hitch of St. James, Missouri; three sisters, Glenna Nemcovsky, Jolene Cross and husband Ron Cross of Hutchinson, Kansas and Dolly Seibel and husband Wally of Wichita, Kansas; sister-in-law, Carolyn Warkentin of Liberty, Iowa; other relatives and friends. As per John's request there was no service, but a celebration of his life was held at the VFW Post in St. James, Missouri on June 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. His ashes will be taken to Inman Cemetery in Inman, Kansas to be laid at rest beside his family members.
